.07 line pay offerered by Superscript in 2009

Posted By: Janet on 2009-03-11

I would have liked to have had some part-time work, but the pay offered, with my 13 years' experience and passing their test, was 7 cents per line; way too low. I counteroffered asking for a higher rate, and she said she was unable to agree. So, I told her I could not accept .07 cents or .075 cents per line. That is my experience.

19% first quarter 2009

I found this clipping interesting; see link for more.

**********

Gross profit for the first quarter of 2009 was $5,343,000, an increase of $1,189,000 or 29%, over first quarter 2008 gross profit of $4,154,000. As a percentage of revenue, gross profit increased to 36% in the first quarter of 2009 from 35% in the first quarter of 2008. This was down one point compared to the three most recent quarters due to the impact of the DeVenture acquisition on the company's gross profit margins. Approximately 62% of the Company's total revenue was processed on our BeyondTXT platform in the first quarter of 2009 compared to 64% in the first quarter of 2008. Most of this reduction relates to the addition of DeVenture in 2009. Approximately 53% of our BeyondTXT volume was edited using speech recognition technology in the first quarter of 2009 compared to 38% in the first quarter of 2008. The Company's goal is to increase this percentage to at least 60% over the next twelve months. The percentage of the Company's total volume processed offshore was 19% in the first quarter of 2009 compared to 16% in the first quarter of 2008.

Whenever we acquire a company, our top priority will always be to keep all of the customers, stated Sue McGrogan, Chief Operating Officer. It is typical to see lower gross profit margins initially from companies we acquire. As we integrate the newly acquired business, we have three primary strategies to help improve the gross profit margins of acquired businesses: migrating as much of the business as possible from older platforms to BeyondTXT to take advantage of the increased productivity inherent in our speech-recognition enabled platform, considering the use of offshore resources, especially for night and weekend coverage, and implementing our operating model to streamline the operation. These three strategies are really no different than what we do every day in our existing business. I want to thank our employees, including our new team from DeVenture, for the hard work necessary to integrate DeVenture quickly and the extra effort made to reach out to DeVenture's customers and employees to begin forming strong long-term relationships with Transcend. I'm also pleased with the progress we have made with the integration of TRS in April. Our customer retention remains high, with only one customer leaving Transcend in the first quarter due to a corporate decision unrelated to our service at the local customer level.

k, its digital TV signals by 2/2009...but
I still don't know what the details are
check out 02/12/2009 string
which is on about page 4 or 5 of this board right right now.  Posts claiming to be from MDI MTs who say their accounts are going to VR this weekend.  Post by C. Buckley not addressing the VR issue.  MDI seems to be holding its cards pretty close to the vest, and if your particular account is not involved, you may not be notified until it is.  Better to know ahead of time while you have time to do something about it?
Here's the link for their ad from June 16, 2009 (sm)
Hope this helps

When doing a search on google, it said there were omitted links due to duplicates, but I clicked to show them anyway and that's when I found the link for their ad on MTStars.
Our contracts will expire at the end of 2009

at which point we will have to sign all that HIPAA confidentiality stuff and probably noncompete agreements with Transcend too.  While the 2009 MDI contract says they have to pay us a certain line rate for 12 months (and this would be binding on Transcend as well)  I bet what we signed says we cannot compete for at least  couple of years (and this would be binding on us as it pertains to what would now be Transcend accounts.)  Don't have time to hunt up and read my contract right now but I would be very surprised if the noncompete agreement expired at the end of 2009.  Way to easy to walk off with accounts that way.

Superscript

Does anyone have any experience with them?  What was it?

Superscript
Pay always on time. I had a problem with the pool. If you did not get up at 3:00 in the morning you had no work a lot of the time. The turnaround time was also six hours, even though they say 24 hours. Strange, I know, but somehow that's how it ended up.

Very nice people to work for though.

SuperScript
I worked for them 4 years ago and they are a Mom and Pop Transcription Company.  Two ladies run it, both our overworked, one has no mercy.  If possible, I would try and find another company.
Superscript
Has anyone recently worked for Superscipt?   Just wondering how they are to work for.  Thanks!
Superscript
Thanks!
Superscript
They sent me an e-mail one other time when they were hiring - said they were interested in me and asked if I could do 1,000 lins a day. I respoinded that I could do it and never heard anything from them again.
Superscript
Sorry, lines
Superscript
Jane is SUPER to work with. The pay is fair, lines a not hard to get, pay is on time every time. I highly recommend this company!
Superscript
Last I heard Superscript did. Very good company to work for! Pay is weekly, decent dictators, good communication.
Superscript
Thanks!
SuperScript
Yes! I used to work for them and they are great, pay on time, pay is average, but Jane is super, super, super!

I left due to health issues that I needed to get taken care of and would go back if I had not fell into a wonderful editing position.
Superscript
I have been contacted by them once by e-mail and said they would like to use me and never heard anything back.  A few months ago they called me and said they wanted to put me on an account. They called me back a couple days later and said the account wasn't starting yet, but my resume was on the top of the stack and they would call me back, it could be a couple days or a few months.  That was over five months ago and I haven't heard anything yet!

MT sees ad,

MT applies,

MT takes test,

MT Passes test,

MTis told that there is full time work

MT gets 2 jobs at a time,

MT gets first check for $10.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience with any company. I am not sure if there is another Superscript out there or not, but I had a completely opposite experience with them. I worked with Superscript out of MI or WI for a time and loved it. I left due to healt issues that prevented me from working with any kind of consistency (all better now), but would more than be thrilled to go back now! Jane always paid on time every time, pay was weekly, was always enough work, doctors were fairly easy to transcribe, and was always offerd extra but not pressured to take extra. I hope that she is willing to give me a second chance now that I am better:)
Superscript
Very nice people, they leave you alone when you do your job. All they want is that you work when you say you will. Pay is a little low, but they do say they'll give you a raise after you get off QA, which seems to be an impossible feat. Actually, I think you have to get off QA on all their docs that you type on, not just one at a time. So even with reports that were 98% or better, still couldn't seem to get off QA and went elsewhere, though that may be because they don't have a large staff. Not bad dictators, accounts are easy and no constant changing rules.
Superscript
I was told two times that they hired me and never got the job. The first time the owner told me an account I was going to work on and never called me back. The second time, the owner again called and told me she wanted me to work on an account, then a couple days later called and said the acccount was slow and she would call me back in a week or two and I would start working. I never heard from her again. If that's the way they do business, I guess it was better not to have worked for them!
Anyone know anything about Superscript out of Michigan?

Any information on Superscript?
Superscript has an ad at another web site.   Can you tell me a little about them?
Any info on SuperScript

Has anyone worked for SuperScript out of Michigan?  I took a job with them under the understanding that I would have my pay bumped up once my errors were down to a minimum; however, I have been working for a little while now with very few blanks and very few to no errors and still no raise in pay.  I've asked about when I might get the higher pay and no straight answer is given.  Anyone else had this happen?

Information on SuperScript?
Is there any current information on SuperScript?  Do they pay on time?  Good company to work for?  Has anyone been there for longer than 6 months?  Thank you for your help!
question re: SuperScript

I work for them now also, but just got cut due to account's technical issues or something.  Just wondering if you had heard anything specific.  I am really disappointed as I really, really, really like the work and would like to stay with the company.  Thanks.........

A line is a line is a line. Doesn't matter if we are talking about radiology or acute care.

1600 is not a fair minimum requirement.  Sure you can achieve 1600, it shouldn't be the required minimum.

Means a line is a line is a line, even if it only has one word on the line
it is considered a line.
"a line is a line" means gross line.
Gross line is a line, no matter how long or short.
Yes to old reports! Their ExText has all the regular functions except line counts are done on line
s
Thanks for the info! Do you *feel* like you make more with a gross line v. character line? (nm)

Oh, they make money off us. Line rate is 17 cents a gross line.nm
z
Keystrokes has very few accts on line using ExText. Most use Cphones/2nd line. Lots of Rad
s
Could someone help me with the figuring out of gross line versus character line? sm
I have generally been paid by character line, 65-character line.  Now, I have had job opportunities offering to pay gross line but it like 3 cents cheaper than what I am being paid now.  A few places I have read that gross line is MUCH better, but is it much better if the pay is so much lower?  Please explain how it works or equals out.  This position has offered me 6 cents per gross line - what would that equal out to in character lines?  Thanks...so confused...
Spaces are not taken into account with gross lines....a line is a line...sm

if there seven words on a line.

or two

one

or a full line of typing...all of the companies that I have worked for define a gross line as 1 inch margins, 12 pt courier font....does not matter what we type in margins or font.....we convert all reports to the 1 inch margins and courier 12 font and then count the lines.  not the blank spaces between the lines.

Hope this helps.

I left MQ for TT. The base line rate was less at TT, but overall I make more per line with the
shift differential (I work second shift) and the incentive plan (I have never once failed to make at least an extra half cent per line on incentives - most of the time a penny). I was scared to death to make that move, as I had been with MQ since back in the Transcriptions Limited days. I have to say, though, that it was the best career move I have ever made and I have never, not once, regretted it.

I hope that was of some help.
15 years ago, I charged .22 per line to big accounts. Now I have been forced down to .13 per line.
This is in part due to offshore companies, in part due to newbies coming in and underbidding to get an account but not being able to service it and then the account expecting everyone else to meet that price. The market is being driven down by many forces, and it is not pretty. I used to pay .14 per line (gross line too) and now pay my subs 0.08. It is not something I wanted to do, but something that was necessary. With only 15 MTs, I feel the squeeze more than some of the big companies out there, but cannot grow and keep up the same standards.

Healthcare in general is not the money-maker it once was, and transcription has taken a hard hit over the years.
Line counts - the lower the line count requirements
the harder the account and problems with trying to get production off the platform the company uses.
I see they pay on a VBC line. Isn't that a huge paycut from a 65-char. line with spaces? nm
x
Actually, SBC does allow it. I had my line changed to a business line and talked with a sm
supervisor who okayed it.  As long as I am listening to voice files, and not one computer talking to another, faxing, etc., it is within their guidelines.  :-)
