AND WE COMPLAIN ABOUT INDIA ...SM

Posted By: HeidiHo on 2008-05-17
In Reply to: 20 yr + exp. they offered 5 cents - OldMT

I would take this as a gross insult if I had 1 year of experience, and I hope this is for VR.  Any MT even considering such an offer, either:

1.  Is in very dire straits, financially.  2. Doesn't value herself very much.  3. Is doing her fellow MTs, and herself/himself a great disservice.  All this abuse of MTs by the companies is done for one reason:  BECAUSE THEY CAN. (We let them).

I will definitely complain.
I just joined them end of June and the first pay day is supposed to be July 9. Their accountant made a big excuse about direct deposit system not being in place but I did not enrol in their direct deposit - so I gave them a week.

Next paycheck is due on the 23rd.

I plan to look elsewhere --- this is so discouraging.
For all those who complain about
THIS is what this is all about. How would you feel if your company was run this way? If you don't work for OSi, stay out of it!!!!!!!!!!!
Already did - I never complain, just ask
nm
If you complain too much.
They will overhire and then you'll be sitting with no work. Which would you rather have? Do you get 1-1/2 for OT? How do they pay?

I've been working 6-1/2 to 7 days a week at my present job because of lots of work so I know how you're feeling, but I do have the choice of not working if I don't want to.
I'll never complain about MQ. nm
x
better than normal. don't complain
many only get 6
I have never heard anybody complain about
MTs are not fickle and as you stated in the end, different MTs prefer different types of work and some like variety. I think if they can make money, they are happy with that.

Why such a negative tone?
And then they complain about TAXES!!!
Give me a break.  You should pay double or triple the taxes of someone making 30 to 50,000.
I NEVER complain about having too much work

I love it. I flex and go with the flow. It's refreshing to know we can make up time and hours when it gets busy.

After working for a place that had no work for days on end and getting deeper into a hole while that company kept telling me the work would pick up (which it never did), I finally left. This company never let you make up hours. What you got, you got.

I ran out of work yesterday and today on my accounts for the first time since the July 4th holiday, but only have a couple hours to make up and I will do that.

I'm tired of the TT bashing, too. They're a great company. No complaints from me...EVER.  They bend over backwards to keep everybody happy, but you can never please some people. I think those people wouldn't be happy if they didn't have anything to complain about.

If no one likes it, they can leave. It leaves more work for me and I'll gladly take it.

Even with a set up like that some people still complain
I work with a similar set up only we can see which dictator it is. We are allocated a certain number of jobs at a time(the same for all of us) and you get what you get.

There have been some people complaining lately (and named me specifically as the cause) that they are not getting enough work. Well, I cannot help it if they choose to work at night and by that time I have done all the work, or most of it.

There is not much this time of year anyway, I'm getting less than 500 lines a day before it runs out.

It just irks me that they act like I am stealing their work! This is not a competition for me, its a paycheck.
I bet you complain about your wages
And it all can be traced to company waste, not to mention the economy. No time to be wasting money. As I said, this is MY opinion. We are allowed in this country to have freedom of speech and opinions, aren't we?
Complain when there is work, complain when there is no work.
x
if that is the case, then we cannot complain when
work goes overseas. If clients pay for inferior work, they may as well pay less huh? integrity, integrity, integrity.
I mean you have NO reason to complain about MW when there are companies like MQ-nm
nm
First, newbies complain about the fact
...then, when someone does hire them, the whine and cry that the account is too difficult. No wonder MTSOs prefer not to deal with newbies. This is a good way for you to learn.
If that is all you have to complain about you've got it made. And they

probably aren't licking the stamps as they just peel and stick them now.

Does everyone find any reason to complain? nm
x
I put my email at the top up there and no one cares enough to write. They just want to complain
and tell untruths about this company. Some are a good fit, others not, but the things that I am reading are definitely not true. I would not worry about constant complainers. These people would not fit in anywhere and I am not upper management either nor am I lower management.
don't complain about how your hospital has too much work - it will bite you in
the hiney!!!

You may end up losing your job to an outsource service and end up making less money with horrible benefits!! Count your blessings.
I'm new to Keystrokes and the pay has been early or on time. Can't complain about that! nm
s
Spheris has a private board where we can complain. SM
It won't help, but we can copmlain. Also, supervisors are quite helpful.

Seems communication at Transtech is lacking in some way.
I didn't complain, but got something from both the places I work sm
My PT job gave me a $30 gift card to target. My FT gave me $25 AMEX gift check. Both were sent in Christmas cards and both cards had been signed by everyone in the office.

No...not lots, but then I don't need lots. I really loved that ANYTHING was sent and the signed cards were a very nice touch.
I will. Hope you are right. Not sure who to complain to, but I'll figure it out.
nm
Its why people complain about negativity on this board
Some people want to think that the people posting negative things here are just malcontents.  Sometimes, when a person speaks the truth, half a dozen other folks jump on to say its not the truth and everything is roses and rainbows.  Usually the truth is somewhere in the middle.  But some people would prefer to believe the sunshine being blown you-know-where by recruiters because they want to think they have lucked into a goldmine.  Well, its a crap shoot - maybe you did and maybe you didn't.  Each person's truth is going to hit them only after they are working the account.  So if she only wants to hear about the rainbows, let her have her fantasy.  Reality will come soon enough when she gets no paycheck.  Then she can pay her bills with all the rainbows.
I have one suggestion..If there is no work. MOVE ON..why whine and complain on here EVERY day. I
agree with Jay. Maybe other people have OTHER things they would like to talk about besides being out of work every day at TransTech. I will say this.. with that much controversary and unhappy there, I would never work there and neither should you if your so miserable. Obviously, something is really wrong with that picture. Now, move on.. You can do better.
I didn't view it as a forum to complain. I saw it more as a chance to get to know sm

others who work for the same company.  Working at home can feel kind of isolating at times.  I do not miss the commute to work, scraping ice off of my car in the winter, backstabbing, gossip, etc., but I sometimes do miss the social aspects of working in an office.   I guess my viewpoint is, things are what you make them to be.

I love Transtech and have been a cheerleader for a long time, even to the point of being accused of being management.  They have stuck with me through some bad times on my end, and I have no intention of dumping them through these bad times now, although I have gotten a couple of other jobs.  With the holidays coming up, especially, it may take all 3 to make ends meet and maybe have a few extras, but that is just part of life.

India, Michael. The MT world is going to India. Wonder why? nm
!
As a MTSO, why would he/she feel the need to come to a public board and complain? Unprofessional in
x
Does your company start with a T... If so, I feel your pain and it does no good to complain. No one
cares. Tell me how you go from over 200 jobs in a queue to nothing in a few hours. Hmmmm. I smell offsourcing. Not happy. I just got a second job and thank goodness. It will save me when there is no work which is too often for my liking.
Couldn't agree more! I don't hear other ExText client MT's complain about
nm
Nada...... Can't complain though, great line rate is worth no extra gifts at X-mas. nm
x
offshore to India, it's OFFSHORE (off shore), not outsource to India.
nm
If the transcribed files go to India, are sent out from India to be transcribed, sm

then the transcribed work is sent BACK to India to be pasted into the GEMS platform and then sent back to the clients in America, how on earth can the company claim to be US-based because its Indian owner has a home in Kentucky?

...or from India. nm
x
so done with india
so done with india.... they can't make it w/o us americans
It all went to INDIA....
Spheris over-hired all right.  All of your work went to India to the Combitore office they opened up.  Look into some websites and you will find it.  Indiadaily. com or something like that.  It talks all about the nice growth they are experiencing in India with the new Spheris office.  They immediately hired like 300 or some MTs.  Now that is going to take a bite out of your work isn't it.  Get out of that place and find a place that is not giving all of our work to India.  Plain and simple!!  Let them have all India workers for a while and when the quality gets so bad and they have to come back to US MTs, well then you should ask for a better rate of pay as well.  Spheris does not deserve to have even 1 good US MT to work for them.  They are biting the hand that feeds them.  As a matter of fact, people should not even use the hospitals that use Spheris as an outsource.  There is more than one way to skin a cat!!
Not ALL of it goes to India.
I do not work there, but I have a friend who does and she works on an account for C-Bay that does not allow the work to go to India.
india

Just wondering, do these MT companies actually give computers in India to those people like they do for their employees in US?  At one point does the Editor know their editing a foreigner's work?  Just a question I had.

India says? Says where?
x
yes to India
/
India
Can it possibly be worth it to these companies by time the pay someone out of the country and then QA. Wouldn't it make more sense to just have an MT who could do the job correctly in the first place! Guess not - since they are all going this route.
India
As the owner of DIT, I can assure you that we most certainly do not outsource to anywhere. All of our work stays in the U.S., always has...always will. We subcontract with MTs all over the U.S.

I posted something a few days ago after the acusis/DRC buyout.  I said I would have to tighten up the budget until I knew what was going on.  Today I tried to call a company about an account I have, thinking I would close it out.  After speaking with a gentleman for a few minutes I wasn't comfortable with the answer I got from him because I had remembered something different when I signed up.  I asked him where he was located.  He named some city in India!  I then said I wanted to speak with someone in America.  He said that was not possible!!  He kept asking me, Is something wrong with my answer?  I asked his name - he said Mark, which I doubt.  I don't know, if it wasn't so sad it would be funny.  Maybe this belongs on the comedy board.  I was speaking with a friend today who owns a small transcription company, and he says that pretty soon the Indians will be having the same problem we are becuase they will be undercut by China.
In India
nm
I believe it. The same for India.

Lost two small accounts completely that were okay.  Now getting primary, but they are the worse dictators in the pool - not seeing any of the halfway decent dictators.  These are all ESL.  I'm lucky if I get 80 lines per hour because they are SO BAD.  As usual, can't get a response from PS or WFC. I looks like the same situation here that the decent doctors have been shipped to India.

Please do not use this site to contact me to find you a job.  I do not agree with outsourcing and feel our jobs need to stay here in the US.  Please find your own job in your own country because there are jobs in India that pay India wages to India resident.
MTs from India
Anon..I agree wholeheartedly with you. I used to have my bio on one of the sites and it would never fail....I would get online about 6:30 a.m. our time and there would be 3 or 4 Indian people wanting to talk to me about wanting to work for me and how much they could help me. I told them I was very sorry, but I felt that we needed to keep our own MTs busy and thus I did not outsource. Took awhile for them to get the message, but finally they did. We have to keep putting this message out there....American work for American MTs.

Has anyone heard that recently Indian companies (from India)are now outsourcing to Romania? Seems that the Indian transcriptionists in India are becoming disgruntled about pay, and sweat shop labor. Too funny!!! So, okay, let's move on to another country and exploit them!! HaHa!! It never ends does it - it's all about the cheap.
India
According to a Wikipedia article: More than four-fifths of Indians practice Hinduism. Islam, practiced by around one-sixth of the population, is the most prevalent minority religion. Christianity and Sikhism are each practiced by around 2% of Indians.

Here's a list of Hindu festivals/holidays:
http://hinduism.about.com/library/weekly/extra/bl-alm.htm

BTW, I had occasion to communicate with the India technical people at Acusis around Christmas, and every one of them greeted me with Merry Christmas or something similar. They have always been very polite and respectful. Actually, the people I have the most issues in the upper echelons of this company are those in the States.
India - every now and then
I reply to them and send them voice files to try out. This last time, I sent 3 voice files. I took one look at the result and my fears were confirmed. If any doctor in the US were to say I FORCED the patient to take his medications we would have a problem. The culture in these other countries don't quite get it. Needless to say, I didn't follow through (which I wouldn't have in the first place anyway). Flame me if you like but I am not going to trust our medical records to countries who don't know our culture and would open us up to lawsuits.
