Actually I didn't quote a figure that I make per hour....sm

(it is above $25/hour, however) but I will say this: if the MT field is one's chosen area, then investing in it is a must. That means, instead of calling others who state they make healthy per-hour wages liars, your time would be better spent in getting as much info as possible in how that was achieved - and learning from it as well as adopting whatever it takes to help YOU. It means spending more time learning and less time bashing. It means concentration on retention of info, both old and new, to further your knowledge. It means learning what works best for you - not the next MT or whomever has posted on this board. It means taking feedback, again, without whining about it. I know of no other field where criticism isn't an essential factor - again, use it *positively* and don't let it affect you negatively! It means being open to trying new specialties when asked - you never know until you try - maybe it's just what you needed! There is a whole host of other things that you can try, but TRYING them is the key. Nothing ventured, nothing gained - and gain IS, after all, what it's all about, isn't it?

Figure out how much you make per hour now and
.
My quote marks on "nack" didn't show up.
I know it's knack, but the OP used nack.
I can never figure out you people who type 250+ per hour (sm)
I just can't do it.  I don't blame the company, though, I blame my old age.  If I could do 250 an hour now, I'd be in  hog heaven!
think, people! If she does 250 lines/hour, same docs daily, will make $15/hour
nm
what's not to believe - I said that I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days AND DO NOT MAKE - sm
I DO NOT MAKE $100,000/YEAR

try READING the post.
$20 an hour is not even average for radiology. You should not make less than $25-30 per hour. sm
I work for Keystrokes and have for 3 years. I average 25 reports an hour, which is $31.25 an hour. I have 401, health insurance, direct deposit, life insurance. My lead tells me I'm wonderful when I talk to her, but I do not need a daily pat on the back.

I also have a good friend who works for them on a clinic. She only makes 0.08 per line but does 300 lines an hour, which is $24 an hour, again higher than your $20.

I don't think we're selling ourselves short. There are companies out there that are good to work for, 6 or 8 of them that I know of personally. Don't settle for $20 an hour.
I didn't even know there is a 12 hour window.
Thank you so much for your information.  I am really hoping it will be a good change.  I just really want something that I like that I can stay with for the next 40+ years :)
Really? Most MTs I know make between $20-30 per hour.
x
I make $14 an hour as QA and looking
NM
Uh, you said you make 4 cpl, $20-something per hour.
At just $20 per hour, that's 4000 lines per day.

Also, many companies pay less than 4 cpl & many MTs are used to making more than $20/hr.... so even more lines. It's ridiculous.
Yeah, it seemed strange to me so I didn't do it. Also, they had a 24-hour turnaround time for the
test, not unheard of but seemed strange nonetheless.  No free work from me today.
HOW MUCH ON AVERAGE DO YOU MAKE AN HOUR?
WHAT IS THEIR AVERAGE PPL, ETC.
I make much more than $17 an hour, more in the $30 range. sm
You sold yourself short. Did you pass their test?

Things that are good are sometimes worth waiting for. Why do you call it BS when you know nothing about the company other than you applied? Geesh. This must be Keystroke's week to be bashed. Who is next week?
I agree...I make anywhere between 25.00 and 28.00 an hour....
it is possible...but like the above poster said, you need to utilize Expanders and I have my own doctors also...no templates but having your own doctors helps...
I WISH I made $11.75/hour! Used to make more
This business makes no sense at all.
I make more than $28 an hour on average so
I am curious to hear about your union attempts but I will never join. I will be one of those taking up the jobs given up by those who attempt this.

You are entitled to spend your time, energy and money where you wish. I hope you don't come out of this attempt feeling defeated or hurt but I am afraid that will be the case.

So, for your sake I wish you well but I will not be a supporter of the union.

How on earth do you make $35-$50 an hour?
Would you mind telling how many lines a day you type and how much cpl you get paid? I just don't see how anyone can type that much that fast. Wow! I'm in awe! Have any tips for us slow pokes with attention problems?
OK, all of you on VR who make $20 an hour, please post.
And please, not the same 1 person posting over and over again who is obviously MANAGEMENT.  If you are truly making that much money doing VR, I would hate to see the quality of your work.  Oh, wait, I probably already have.  Looking up old reports, the quality I am seeing is...  not that great, to put it mildly.  Obvious, GLARING errors.  VR:  Good for MTSO.  Not good for MT--or for PATIENT CARE, to put it mildly!
At my co, I would make $5 per hour LESS to be a lead vs. production pay. nm
pppp
Im thinking by the hour and make it well worth your while. nm
x
Agree. I would love to make $20 an hour
nm
Can acute care make $17 an hour?
Yes. With WMX, in December, straight typing, I was making $25.73 an hour. Started VR in January, now averaging $20.73. Sucks.
Unions in Canada, MTs make $23 hour plus Yep
I communicate with an MT in Canada and that is what she relayed.
Yeah, take home 70% for IC and make aprox $10.50/hour or .04cpl
x
Keep puckering up, maybe someday you'll make that big $14 an hour. Best of luck to ya. nmsg
msg
try to think how this didn't make sense to you
If the company pays for all those things and it is in *Word*, most likely you will be using either their line counter or Word's counter (found under Tools). Is this for an MTSO or your own account?

There has been a lot of discussion regarding this issue in the archives if you want to invest the time to research.
It almost looks like a memo she got and didn't make it into an ad.

I was also wondering about that $7000, is that per month, per pay period, maybe per year?

I never said I didn't make money being an MT. sm
I simply was exploring what would happen when a manager was informed they would take home half their pay in October. I don't know if I'll make money when my pay is cut. Will you when yours is cut?

Kudos for the rolling eyes, I wouldn't have thought of that.
She didn't make 1 spelling error that I can see.
nm
My quotation marks didn't make it on.
zz
Didn't make decision whether offshore

company or not from what I read.  What I stated was that they used to offshore, but I read a post the last couple of weeks that said they thought they quit offshoring.

My statement about them not being an offshore company is based on private conversations with the owner of the company.

Well, I was thinking I couldn't make enough $$ but I truly didn't stay long enough..SM
to really give it a chance. I know that now. I started but got cold feet and went back to my old job. I really liked their benefits, and I'd be willing to give it time, this time, to get more used to the account and system, etc.

I was just wondering if they ever hired anyone back. Thanks for asking and not flamning. :)
Actually it was...here's the quote
guidelines. There is a link on the top of each page that tells you what you need to know and one of them is not to post account information. No one is attacking you. It is just common sense that you don't go around posting account information.

Actually, I did and take a look at your quote:
And for your information, nurses are making MORE not LESS. Let's get real here.

To me, that justified my out-of-proportion post.
Again, and I quote...
none of that really matters to me. My thing is as long as the work is there and my paychecks are on time, I have NOTHING to worry about.
I think it is 30% but don't quote me on that. nm
.
I quote you......(sm)
As an aside, can you think of any better way for a terrorist organization to infiltrate?

THAT is a MIGHTY POWERFUL and very scary possibility.
Quote
WOW, if there was a doubt left in anybody's mind, that should dispel it. YOU ARE A STALKER. Your disdain for GP is quite obvious. We get it, are bored with it. I don't have the time to go look up the rest of her quote, but I would bet there is more that you left out.
100,000/year - no way. I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days - sm
AND I DO NOT CLEAR $100,000/YEAR.

it says and i quote from the packet
in front of me" if you experience unscheduled downtime you will be paid at the hourly downtime rate". for more info go toQnet. Why would I make it up?? But what does "unscheduled" mean??? I know now that my CSC archives on a certain day and I can't transmit for an hour. Maybe they will have scheduled downtime that we have to work around?? Don't know and too tired to look at Qnet todayso don't ask me.
see message and quote
_Are we supposed to shut off our phone because our CS reps are Indian?? _

Absolutely. Let them email you. Don't interrupt your productivity to struggle with yet another ESL telling you what to do.

I've been suffering the last few days from Indians calling me to ask if I take credit cards because I recently switched my home phone to a business line to get unlimited business LD. I instantly turn on my learned Russian accent and they have no clue what to do.

In my humble American opinion, make them responsible. Emails are less intrusive, take less time and are less offensive to the auricular sense, and force the originator to be held accountable for the fluency and clarity of their thought processes.
They'll get you a quote.
It's $20-something for me and $70-something for me and my two kids a week. The LPD depends on what system you are working on. 11,000 per week for eScription and 5600 for the straight typing accounts I believe.
what you say is hardly possible, I quote from your psot....sm
'Crummy quality. Do you think your clients and prospective clients don't know that you change employees more often than most people change their underwear? '

For: s/msg
How can you say that? Do you change your underwear only once a month?

don't ever quote a rate
without SEEING what it is you are agreeing to.

Dr. A might have you doing envelopes with addresses, multiple copies, etc and Dr. B might just schlep out SOAP notes.

Have an idea what you want to make an hour. After you've met with a client, figure out how much you need to do in an hour to make that rate.

And just suggestion, 20cpl will get you filed in the circular file pretty quickly.
That last is an old quote. Can't take credit. :) NM

In response to your quote: "sm)
doctors do not generate revenue, documents do.
In theory, that may be correct, but put on your thinking cap straight. If there were no doctors dictating, there would be no MTs transcribing the documents.
Name your source and the total quote
Its irresponsible of you to suggest that Obama (or McCain for that matter) wants to put records online implying they could be unprotected.

So name your source, and the entire quote and then WE can determine what the position actually is...
Sorry my quote marks disappeared. (??!!)
X
The rest of the quote was that we have to do multiple...sm
specialties. It is entirely reasonable to think a multispecialty MT of 30 years would have a broader base of knowledge than a doctor fresh out of medical school.

An LPN and an RN cannot do surgery, either, yet for some reason you put them above a medical transcriptionist. As for a doctor, unless you are actually performing a surgery, your skill lies in your interpretation of signs, symptoms, lab tests, etc.

A medical Transcriptionist has to use this same thought process every day. How many times to look at the past medical history to figure out a medication or look at a lab value to differentiate a diagnosis?

I am afraid you sell MTs very short.
Sorry, the quote should have been "what society has done to us."
Can't say that I am in that category.
$35/hour x five 10-hour days = $1,750 gross/week.
