Agree. You can't fake experience with OPs and special procedures.

It's much better to be honest but tell them how much you want to learn & ask them to give you a chance.

A special is defined as a special in Radnet - i.e. anything sm
from a PICC line placement to c-arm to interventional.
TTS does not change policies, procedures and
don't drop bomb shells constantly like MQ. I work for both and TTS is a reliable MTSO to work for, little hassel and no stress, not to mention actually having a primary to work on. I would rather make 9 cpl and have job security and comfort with TTS than all the stress of MQ! Take the job, you will love it!
Generally, with holidays, patients put off elective procedures, sm

more doctors take off, and generally you can count on a lighter workload, especially with Christmas and Thanksgiving.   I tell myself I will save up and prepare for it, but usually I end up scrounging frantically for work, so do not feel alone.

Oh, and pay no attention to the whining comments.  Most of us have compassion and understand the panic that cam come along when you realize you have run out of work for the day or whatever.

Hang in there ... it will get better.

Well, it's not fake by any means but it is not
realistic for new MTs.
Are you saying only fake companies
Where ever would you get that idea?  I think there are real companies that use FTP sites and Word.  I work for a real company that uses FTP and Word.  Not all companies use platforms.  In my opinion platforms can be easily manipulated by the company for line count whereas Word is much more accurate.  I have tried some of these so-called MT friendly platforms and I think they cheat you of lines and are to strictly benefit the company and are not MT friendly at all.  They also bog your computer down.
Who said she used a fake resume?
She could have used a valid resume, yet applied and accepted jobs with several employers.

I do QA for a very large MTSO and I think there are LOTS of people who apply with fake resumes. Many of the reports that I see from many new hires are horrendous...no way they took their own test.
that is why i use a fake hotmail...sm
or make up disposable emails for this type of thing.
Hmmm, no OSi mgt here with fake posts?
That's because they know this is the truth and there is no defense for this!
How do these MT schools get away with saying you can make $40,000 per year. That is a fake
advertisement and should be banned!
Is that where they make those press-on fake fingernails?

Better fake flames on an internet forum, than
real flames from something such as a Molotov cocktail and a match.

Venting is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing.
Wouldn't do it. That and your SS info, driver's license, etc. Someone can make fake

Agree. Although my experience with them SM
was pretty bad, I am certain they no longer offshore.
I agree. I have had this experience with her as well (sm)
Getting an upfront and honest answer from her about anything without having to sell your soul is next to impossible. She treats you like a redheaded stepchild. If that is how the potential employees are treated, then I have no desire to know what comes after that.
I agree. Unfortunately, this has been my experience, too.
To me, it does not matter why our US MTs are delivering such poor quality - they simply are.

And our US MTs are utter nightmares to deal with when it comes to giving feedback.

I can't help how many years they have been transcribing, they obviously were never rated on quality or under a poorly constructed quality program. I'm talking blatant, glaring medical terminology and pharmacology errorso. They say they want feedback but when you give it to them they try to scalp you. It doesn't matter if I simply provide the corrections, or if I provide the corrections and where/how to reference, or even am very, very nice and positive, trying to teach them - they are offended to the core.

The Indian MTs are very accepting of the feedback and PUT IT TO USE!

Our US MTs - they never read it or never put it to use. Probably don't read it because most aren't paid to do it and, my goodness, it would be a sin and a crime for them to do something they are not paid to do - even if it is helps secure their own job!

My experience has really changed my perspective on the US vs international job market. It isn't that US jobs are just be so-called lost to international markets...its that our quality is just that substandard.

And don't even get me started about the bloated American ideal that no one has to work when they don't want to! Or on an account they won't make the best money on! OH MY!

they used to pay for experience. not now. agree with sm below
x
Same experience, I agree
I agree with your posting - I think MTs with less years of experience, even as many as 10, may not realize the changes someone who has been at this another 10 or 15 or 20 years has actually seen and LIVED through. We know the difference between back then and back now. I do not agree that many other jobs or industries are like this upside down one, where pay stagnates and goes down and does not increase in any way, shape, or form - other than working more and more and more hours along with decreasing quality of life - and how we did have great paying jobs whether hourly or cpl, along with all of the other benefits, as you describe. MTs who got into it later than some of us with 20 to 40 years of experience may well not realize this. So, do hear that many of us with more years have seen this happen, and it is disheartening, and it is demoralizing.

And yet, we remain dedicated to the work we do.

I agree to disagree - my experience ...SM
I'm from the NE, living in SE so I have a totally opposite experience than you seem to have.  It's cool, no problem here! :)  It probably differs depending on what part of the country one is from. :)
agree! see inside for my experience
One thing - they are a GLOBAL company and not American.

For me IT was the pits. the set-up person was here but 'new' at it all and had to depend on another outside the country who - if he didn't see it happen - you were lying and it was fixed! {fill out service tickie pwease, for my inwoice. ahem, you're actually charging for this?)

After 3 weeks of problems and not even getting to the work - I quit. My computer crashed and had to be totally reloaded.

they really should stay outside the USA.
I so agree, in my experience some of the absolute worst MTs
were the ones with all the so-called experience! Obviously that says a lot for where they had worked. I have heard too often many companies do not do any type of random evaluations or spot checks on the MTs or that the QA department is short-staffed or not so great themselves...so there's a couple of possible reasons.
I agree on all fronts! Same experience, but 3 different companies. All
b
agree, the pay is going to vary based on individual experience
nm
I agree with Tasha...I am having a wonderful experience at Keystrokes...plenty of work...
nm
Agree.. What is up with Spheris..They hire new grads yet I have over 14 years experience in acute
care, multiple specialities, yet..they said I didnt meet the qualifications. WHAT???? Why arent they honest and tell the truth. Do not tell me I am not qualified when I have worked for two hospitals doing all work types including radiology for all those years. Their ad said at least one year of experience. I guess 14 did not count for anything. The funny thing was that the hospital I was working for at the time had just signed them on to do our overflow, having switched from MedQuist. I just find it ironic that they were hired by our hospital which I worked for and had experience at, yet, I was not qualified enough. What a joke!!
and this is special because.....? nm
}
No, not very special.

There ought to be a special SM
piss and moan board just for all you negative types who like to do nothing but complain and be miserable and start trouble.
Well, now - isn't that special?!
*
you must be special, most people get 8 cpl or
less if on the new platform which only pays 60% of your line rate.
You must be special, some of us get nuttin

I haven't seen overtime request in 9 months.

How is the ESL situation at MDI-Fl? Any special
nm
You must be special, I never get a call
and only get a list of work to be done. A thank you once in a while would be nice, or even an offer to change accounts since there seems to be a hiring spree for them. I feel like if I fell off the end of the earth that they would call in 2 days to see why the work was not done, but no one gives a care whether you live or die there.
These special teams they have is just SM
sugar-coating the fact that you get the worst of the worst all shift, every shift.  It allows them to funnel all the bad dictator to the MTs who can do them and allow everyone else to have the lighter stuff.  I think if they are going to have BEST, STARs or whatever teams, they should be paying MINIMUM 12 cpl for this kind of dictation.
No, they were never special enough to have their own in the first place.
nm
Nah, nothing special. They are interesting though. Perhaps you could ask for some?
Maybe they can put some in your cue now and then. Just a thought.
I have never had a problem, but I know how *special* I am! LOL
I sometimes get ignored, but I know when certain people are in the office or at home, on shift or off. About 96% of the time I have no problems at all. Had platform problems today and got a prompt answer and had it all fixed up within about an hour.
Special situation

Hey guys,

I got kind of a special situation and was curious if anyone had any suggestions.  I am living abroad for 6 months and then will be returning back to my house in the US.  When we came abroad I was working for a company and then started with another company a short time ago.  I like them a lot, but they are mostly VR and I can't stand it and make no money doing it, so I was out looking for another company.  I am a US citizen and pay US taxes, but I am having trouble finding a decent company to work for.  I know some people do this job and are military wives stationed all over, so I thought maybe someone would have an idea of a great company hiring at the moment?  I am fresh out of ideas.  I have several that will gobble me up gladly when we get back to the US, but I need to work while we are away.  I can stay where I am, but I am not really making any money and went part time due to the VR editing mess.  Anyone know of any solutions?

Thanks in advance!!

I saw that ad and took special note of it also. (sm)
My first thought was their accounts must be extremely backed up and they (KS) are in danger of losing clients, thus the need hire MTs who are going to be able to pull off that line count within only their first week.

However, there is ALL WAYS more to a story than meets the eye.
It takes special ppl to do what we do. Either you have it or you don't. sm
Not everyone is cut out for this field. I'm sorry that it didn't work out for you because it definitely has it's perks! Like sitting in my PJs as I type this, while my hubby sits in traffic. It took him 5 hours to get home the other night from an ice storm. I'd list more bonuses, but there are just way too many and I have to get back to work.
Jayne, I didn't have to do anything special. I have
my SmarType running with MS Word and when my Word program opens SmarType is running with it. Load your SmarType and see if it will automatically start running when you open your Word program.
A special place in hell

awaits those people who told you that. I was an MT for 15 years and the most I ever made was 32K. That was several years ago when I worked at one of the last hospital jobs still around then. My pay actually got lower each year. I finally left the field.

Back in the day when I first started doing this, I constantly heard stories similar to my sister-in-law/aunt/cousin/best friend works in Florida/Texas/California/New York and makes $20 an hour doing transcription!!!!

I kept hearing about those big money jobs but I never found one. I've worked in every hospital, clinic, doctor's office and national you can think of and barely made ends meet. I'm so sorry they got to you. I wish I could get to people before they put down their money thinking their going to make big bucks. It's such a lie.

What makes u think u should get special treatment?
Tons and tons of ESL and you can't avoid them.
Why would you talk to the owner? Are you special? sm
Perhaps you missed the email about contacting your direct supervisor. I would never call her for anything. I have a person to go to.
Is there special equipment required with
Just curious.
yes true, unless on Special Teams, then 9 cpl
nm
Do you need a special foot pedal for DVI?
nm
Special foot pedal
You need a special foot pedal for TransNet.
You must be a special person - to have someone care so much about you.
NM
So you deserve special treatment? sm
MTs that don't have kids are ALWAYS stuck with the weekends and nights. It is expected of us to take up the slack for the MTs with kids ALL THE TIME. And when asked ONE TIME to switch and work a night or a weekend so an MT without kids can do something, the answer is always NO I want to be with my kids. Go ahead and flame me because personally I'm SICK OF IT!
Nothing special about it. I'm an IC, and those were my requested days
x
Well, aren't you just SOOO special!
