And did those lines equal the same? Once the file is released sm

Posted By: lls on 2009-07-11
In Reply to: I had been with them several months - and no line count

from QA, it will show in Scribe and there are several ways you can search to find that specific job. I have checked lines on multiple occasions the same way you did to make sure what I was getting was close to what Scribe was getting and it always was. In fact, it was usually a tad bit higher than the Word line count was.

60 min doesn't equal 600 lines imnsho..sm

I've done a whooollleee lot of research on this on my own transcription and I have never had 60 minutes equal less than at least 750 lines. Every time. So whoever first said that their 130 minutes is around 1800 to 1900 lines is a lot closer than the 60 minutes equals 600 lines, in my not so humble opinion.

And I don't even do MT, which I know has faster dictators than what I do. Think about how fast those docs go through their dictation trying to hurry and get it done. They are not speaking in a normal speaking voice, so heck it's possible 140 minutes could equal 2000 lines easy given that consideration.

But the one who said it is going to differ day to day is correct too unless you're typing the same dictator every day, then it's pretty standard. If you're using a platform where you can't count your own lines, is there a way to copy and paste into Word to get an idea for your normal daily dictation? Even DoquScribe has a way to copy into Word, so maybe you could do that.

Someone on this thread talked about 10 second dictations. If you could get your line count from something like that, then just multiply it times 360, then you have your line count for an hour's worth.

Anyway, just my two cents' worth. You're going to get different answers from everyone because everyone has different dictators. But I would still say at least 1700 lines for 140 minutes.

May be set on incorrect file setting? type of file??
If you are using, for instance, Express Scribe to listen/transcribe, there are about 10 or so types of setting for the file you use, wav, mp3 etc.  If so, go to the top of screen, look for setting. I just click all of them.
Does this mean you have not been released?
If so, do not worry. If you are new, take what they have to say (feedback) constructively and apply it. They are a good team of people. Best thing, if you do not know it, blank it.
I was released after only 1 day. I agree
8 days is probably not enough of a trial, but then it depends if the QA errors where account specific/formatting issues versus misspelled words, wrong meds, etc.  Leaving there was the best thing I've done in a long time and I left before they bought TransHealth and M-Tec, but things weren't kosher then either.
Not sure how it works, but maybe the client just released (as they do on sm

Fridays) lots of dictation from the 21st, thereby putting the crunch on us.  QT probably didn't want to ask us to work extra over Christmas weekend.  In past experiences with other companies, it is the client who will sandbag the work and send it over in a huge lump that really dumps on the transcription company and its MTs.

So, let's do extra and make extra.  It's not like we were asked to do it for free.

Stop worrying.  I think we're really okay.  We have to pitch in and help.

Not NSF. BIG DIFFERENCE. Funds available but not released and everyone was
sent the bank letter. They changed banks, got direct deposit and no more problems. The letter from the bank said that the funds were there but not available due to new holds being placed on deposits. Big difference.

Didn't think it was released yet? Tuesday? sm

I did email asking if they could have a summary rather than us trying to compare old to new and figure out the changes.  I was told the changes are too numerous to annotate.

That scared me.

Started Monday. Supposed to be released today. sm

I don't know what is going on there, but I haven't had any problem at all.  I was told at the beginning I needed to do 5 days of 5 reports and if I had 98%, I was good to go.  Tomorrow would be my scheduled day off anyway and I start my regular shift on Sunday. At least that is what I have been told.

They apparently have hired a lot of new people, so I'd just keep calling.

The file to save is the SPF file.

They are about equal.

Most does not equal all and doesn't mean all MTs
I work for 2 very professionally run MTSOs who refuse to outsource. If I am ever in a position to have to work as an MT for a service who outsources or changing careers, I will no longer be an MT. There will always be a need for US transcriptionists for US service providers who have clients who do not want it any other way.
Equal opportunity

I recently applied at a company and was told that my transcription test did not meet the minimum requirements for any of their accounts.  Yet, a friend of mine took the same test and showed it to me in which she had several blanks.  It looked very similar to mine other than the fact she had blanks and I did not.  Has anybody ever had this problem?

which would equal $99 for 100 min @0.11/line...nm

Not all are created equal..
It is not accurate to lump all VR programs in the same category. While I'm sure there are horrible programs out there with companies that don't really care about whether the VR program works for the MTs that is not true in all cases. Like the other poster, I love VR and would never want to do anything else. There is no way that you can do 350 to 400 lines per hour on straight text; it is something that is not hard to achieve with a good VR program combined with a company that doesn't allow just any dictator onto speech. Of course you have to proof the document 100% - I don't think VR will ever be able to recognize everything exact but there are very minimal corrections to make. Maybe that is currently the exception and not the rule.
How many boxes to equal 9 cpl?

Does verbatim equal garbage?
Do they say they want verbatim so they can blame the "dumb typer" when the patient record is incorrect?  The doctor says over and over that the patient is a male, yet "he" has had a hysterectomy, C-sections, etc.  Now, this is in a report where I also heard nothing about transgender. That is a minor example, but you get the point, right?  We are told to type what we hear.  When we hear garbage, we have to type garbage.  Apparently the hospital thinks the docs are flawless.  I want to give good patient care and provide accurate reports, but I can only do so much.
How much would 45 minutes of dictation equal....sm
speaking in terms of lph or transcription time?  I know transcription time would depend on speed, but round figures are good.
Yes, experience does not always equal quality work!
nm
by my calculations, 10/78 character is equal to 8.33/65 characters - nm
 nm
Experience does not equal skill. As an ex-recruiter for a large sm
national, I found that the length of time that someone has been a Transcriptionist does not always indicate their ability to transcribe well. I also found that some, not all, transcriptionists with a lot of experience had egos that were inflated to the point that they thought they were perfect. They would fail our test and call screaming at me, when the truth was that they just weren't that good.

Perhaps you should look into brushing up on your skills prior to taking tests or find out exactly what a company is looking for. Maybe your experience is not in the area that they need.

I don't want to start a war here but it is time for transcriptionists to realize that they are not always going to get every job they apply for. It is time for companies to crack down on quality. Quality is the only thing that we have over offshore.
lol - hair equal hire - need my abbreviation to type

I had an MTSO once offer me 7 cpl per gross line and said it was equal to 10 cpl sm
for a 65 ccl, so would 6 cpl gross equal 9?  It is so hard to tell with these things anymore.
Yeah, so? I am equal opportunity anony poster.
nm
80,000 characters a day is equal to half a ton of weight on finger muscles. . .
So, why no spaces paid? The left thumb takes a major beating, and your spine, eyes, hearing, circulation.  We were not even made to type all day!
A lot? You've got to be kidding. Name them. "Big schools" still don't equal experience.

A .wma file is sm
Windows media player and so far as I know, you can't play it with anything other than that. I know that ExpresScribe doesn't play those either.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. I know you would not be testing unless you needed a job and it would be really nice if companies understood that we don't have time to futz endlessly with these things!

Hon', you really need to get your issues straightened out with respect to giving out the correct usernames/passwords (I've seen two different sets so far), then making sure the promised files are actually there (I'm seeing nothing but empty directory(ies) here).

Sounds like a headache from the get-go for any potential MTs to take on.  (...and, please, get something more professional that toocuteembroidery)

1800 lines is easily achieved. I average 300-340 lines per hour. nm

WC is for employees. An IC cannot file
a work comp claim.
You can file a complaint with the
distrinct attorney in the city in which they are located and this should put an end to this nonsense.  Rubber checks are illegal all over the country.  Then file a case in small claim court and include ALL expenses you incurred from late charges, etc., as a result of this check
I don't keep resumes on file, so...
I often get people who send their resume in multiple times in response to different job postings. That being said, if the applicant doesn't have the qualifications listed in the ad, their resume goes straight to the recycle bin without a response.
need a Schedule C to file that on....sm

If they didn't take out taxes and you earned more than $600, you would fill out a Schedule C.  If they took out taxes or if you worked for others who did take out taxes, they'd give you a W2-W4 and you'd fill out a 1040 or 1040A.

HTH (hope that helps)

How do you file a complaint in CA?
Who would you file a complaint with if the company who is not paying is in California? The California Labor Board, Attorney General's office, and Better Business Bureau?
file a complaint with the
Better Business Bureau in your area as well as the area the owner of the MT company lives.  This does not take but a few minutes of your time.  Consider calling the police to ask what can do?  It is illegal to bounce checks........ Good luck!
Save the file...
To say they belonged to MQ would be like saying you can't take your phone numbers out of your cell phone if you decide to change services - or save your bookmarks in IE and use them in Firefox.
When do you file for unemployment?

My job has not had any work for 2 weeks now.  If there is no work, can you file unemployment?  Or do I wait until they let me go and then file?

Thanks

Wav file problems
I would first try rebooting your computer to see if that solves the problem. Sometimes it is a simple reboot to fix things. I would then try to play them again and if they still don't work then see if they work in another sound program like Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. What wav player are you using?
I have the file names...
... on my computer. Your mileage may vary. Here are mine:

C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataDocQscribeMQ1CacheUser Profiles994888324013user.aco

and

C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataDocQscribeMQ1CacheUser Profiles994888324013userdic.tlx

If I'm not mistaken, user.aco is your expansion file, and userdic.tlx includes any entries you may have added to the dictionary during spell-check.

So if you search your entire hard drive for files named user.aco and userdic.tlx, you should be able to see where they are hiding in both installations of DQS, and you can copy the larger files (the one with all your expansions and dictionary entries in them) to the locations where the smaller files reside.

Clear as mud?

You need to save it to your desktop or somewhere and then open it using YOUR file player, whatever that might be, Express Scribe or whatever. Right click on the saved file and look for open with

I average 1200-1400 lines per day with a national, and am only getting around 600-800 lines per day.
It's been this way since the day before Thanksgiving. I've been doing this for almost 30 years now, and more often than from Thanksgiving until the new year is the slowest time of the year. I have some months where I am swamped with up to 2000 lines per day. I stash that little extra money, and take advantage of a handful of extremely slow days this time of the year to actually cook dinner, decorate for Christmas, or do Christmas shopping. I actually anticipate this slow time every year and have grown to enjoy the breathing time. Any time I have attempted to pick up extra work with another company to supplement these slow times, the minute I get adjusted to the new accounts, etc. I have no time to finish all of my work because my full time job with national gets slammed again. Hang in there if you can, and hopefully your work will pick up significantly around New Years.
They work with you to make sure you get the lines required or the amount of lines you want...
I have never had a problem getting more work
no more voice file test
just a written from what I understand, lots of complaints about the quality of their test files so they 'shelved' it. I'm happy there, takes 2 weeks to get started, I don't think they make you take a physical any more, but still the background check which is almost standard now due to identify theft - - but the supervisor is good, flexibility when you need it. I'm happy, they work for me.
