New option for group members
Group members now have the option of hiding their email address and IP address. This eliminates some features of the group but is for everyone's protection.

Everybody is scrambling for lines because its slim pickings now, afraid to spend time in the group for fear of losing a job to type. JMO.
So you are saying the SWAT team members may have
been laid off in entirety because they were not up to par for their hourly, therefore the company downsized that team, and rethought the strategy, and will hire production QC and transcriptionists instead for better quality and rates? That this company is in Mass, and puts their USA MTs and QA in high regard? I am trying to see why you are saying to get facts straight, this is what I am asking you to do here please. I was offered, and could probably take an MT position or QA at production since we have not yet set a start date, but as before unsure about the stability of my position.

This is the beginning of the end for treating MTs as if they have no valuable skills.  Offshoring has been proven costly - multiple layers of QA, litigation for patient care mistakes that sneak through.  India, Pakistan are becoming targets -See Mumbia-the group of us who have been studying this have seen a 20% return to TRANSCRIPTION PERFORMED ON U.S. SOIL.


Offshoring was fun for the corporates while it lasted - those who gave no care to patient care, only to the bottom line.  It's come full circle now - the work is coming back to us.  Don't let anyone scare you further regarding offshoring - the work is returning from ESL countries across the board.


Within the past week I have spoken with 5-different Dell Support Agents, all located on US soil (verible), and compared total call time for the same computer scenario as 5-Dell Support Agents canvassed 6 months ago, admittedly located in Pakistan.  The AMERICAN agents averaged 2-5 minutes per call; Pakistanis averaged 8-25 minutes per call.  Multiply the extra 20 minutes by even 1,000 cals per day - OUTSOURCING BRAGS HUGE SAVINGS and the cost appears very small at the outset - BUT WHEN YOU ADD ALL OF THE PROOFING, LANGUAGE BARRIERS, TIME SPENT ON HOLD, ETC., IT IS COSTING EACH AND EVERY COMPANY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS YEARLY TO OFFSHORE OUTSOURCE.


There is proof - the work is coming back.  And contrary to what we've been told, not all doctors are agreeing to VR - they cannot be forced and many of them are still using VR platforms for FULL TRANSCRIPTION. 


We have done a lot of research before bringing this to light.  The technology is not advancing as quickly as our paychecks are shrinking.  We are being lied to.


No more bickering - I don't care if you have 30 years experience, or are fresh out of school - PUT YOUR PERSONALITY CONFLICTS ASIDE FOR NOW AND THINK OF US AS A GROUP OF PROFESSIONALS THAT NEED TO SET SOME GOALS AND BOUNDARIES AS WE ARE STILL IN HIGH DEMAND.

Regarding Encompass, it depends largely on your specific manager and account assignment.  Mine rarely concerned herself with my specific strengths and weaknesses, and often mandated overtime without, of course, asking.  Also, you have to watch the paycheck to make sure it is accurate; mine was often lacking, despite the fact that I was very specific and accurate on my timecard.  Another thing, my manager/account was regularly adding new dictators and worktypes for the weekend, at close of business on Friday, when no one was around to answer my questions.  They tell you that you can set your own schedule, but that's not always true, either.  Good luck.

When I was there, as far as QA rating, the benchmark expectation was for 99.5%.  When I had ratings of only 99%, the manager said that it could be improved, but that 99% was acceptable.  I guess everyone's experience is different.  But, I felt like rented equipment when I worked at Encompass.

I am at Encompass (very part-time), very happy. Nice people, honest, pay is very much average (higher rates for p.m. and weekends). Don't have their insurance, but it's pretty good, and you can qualify pro rata at only 30 hours a week. Geedub

I worked there for about 4-5 months in 2007 when they took over my hospital's transcription. They weren't a good fit for me. You have to stick to a pretty strict schedule, have to work your hours, and expected make up missed hours if there is no work during your shift which on my accounts was a lot. Very little communication. Big push for VR. Average pay based on the time of day you work. Very detailed account specifics.

They do our overflow work and are a very good company. They use ExText. Heard they pay well for quality work and are choosy about who they hire.

As of 2006-2007--No, they don't offshore.  They do subcontract with other MTSOs.  The owner of the company does not allow MTs to know each others email addresses, thereby keeping them from communicating with each other.  They seem to revere the QAs, tech department and account managers much more than the MTs.  Some of the account managers are quite bossy and QA can be quite condescending.  IMHO, at least one MT who I know was treated like rented equipment while working there.  They often run out of work on primary accounts, while they have mandatory overtime if the workload demands it.  If you meet their specifications, they do offer benefits for part-timers.  If you've been there less than 90 days, you may be required to work all holidays; if you've been there at least 90 days, you can request which holidays you would prefer to work.  However, if there's no work available on that holiday, you don't get paid for it.  If you have requested a certain day off and your manager approves it, keep all documentation, for you might get a call asking why you are not working; at least one manager there had a habit of forgetting such approvals.

I have been through the same issues but have not been able to find another job that is any better than where I am at now.


I applied with Encompass and was told that they do not hire New York state residents due to the high cost of doing business in our state.  I had spent the time filling out their application and completing their testing before finding this out, so I just wanted to save you the trouble if you are in NY. I wanted to forward that e-mail to the governor of New York becauseI was so angry that where I lived would prevent me from getting a good job!

Hi all,  Does anyone have any experience and/or knowledge of working with Encompass out of Wisconsin or Sten-Tel out East. . . good, bad or inbetween?  I'm very comfortable with the Escription platform which both use along with straight dictation and am interviewing with both.

I worked there over a year ago, so this is not really recent info. I quit because I did not like the strict schedule/time clock that they require. If that's not a problem for you, they are a good company. The trainers and support staff are really nice. My accounts would be out of work and I had to jump around from account to account. But that seems to be everywhere. I think they push VR pretty hard too.

All in all, it seems that people rarely post on here about them so maybe that means their transcriptionists are happy and not venting on this board.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of your jobs.  I will keep this short and sweet, but I want to let each of you know that I began working for Encompass last year and have known the owner for several years.  I have been to several conferences with her in recent months and we have heard over and over again about how sending work off shore is so much more profitable.  There isn't enough room on this forum to explain our company's passion about remaining US based.  I cannot promise each of you jobs but I can only hope that you would take a look at our website (www.encompassmt.com) and see if we might be able to help you.  We are proud to say we are an employer of choice and our MTs would agree.

My account doesn't use I-chart, but on a small single chart I counted every character and every space and ended up with 902; divided 65 into that and got 14+.  When I checked my line count later, it was 15.  Did the same with the next one.  It also agrees with the Word Count under Tools.  Checking CTL-S and statistics gives me a higher count, but I think that includes the headers, for which we do not get paid.  It looks fine to me.  I'm not sure about I-Chart.  This is Xpress line counter though, and I don't see anything like skimming.  Maybe you should explain better.
I have checked into 3 different

8 cpl seems to be the going rate for 8 years experience.  However, at one of the nationals, if I worked odd hours of the night, produced over 2000 lines an 8 hr shift I could get paid more than 10 cpl.
