transcribe on the move so I can travel but not use all my vacation time?  I wish I had paid attention earlier this year..but I didn't know I'd ever be in the position to need to do this.

they email you some voice files to type and send back

If you have an Infinity pedal, you can pull the files in thru Express Scribe, (free download) and

I didn't think their voice files were of
good quality, lots of difficult dictators, and they are now offshoring.  MTSO said that files were surprisingly good.  I had to QA the entire report and basically retype most of it because reports were not surprisingly good.    MTSO was nice and up front about offshoring though.
Yes, typed 3 voice files
The recruiter gave me three voice files and I had two hours to return them.  Not bad, one was kind of hard.  You only have to fill in the blanks, not transcribe the entire report.  Just like doing an edit.  From the time I applied on-line, got a call from the recruiter and tested and then offered a position was less than two days.  They sent me an equipment package and paperwork, I trained and now I am working my way through the three week full QA process.  Nice people so far, I am very happy with Medware.
Unless you have another way to play your voice files, use

Voice files disappering act

I am a former Transcend employee.

I do hope all current and future employees have better luck than I did.

When I would ask about  lack ofwork I was told sometimes it was necessary to be flexible so I tried working at night.

The platform I worked on had a queu wih all t jobs and you had to take in  that order.

At 10 PM there would be upwards of 100 jobs in the queu.

Then mysteriously they would vanish.  It was interesting that if, and I do mean IF, there any jobs were left they would be  ESLs or impossible dictators .

There was no way they were not sent somewhere---- the average worker would be unable to sort the good from the bad dictators because the jobs had to be downloaded in order.

As I said, I wish anyone with them good luck.  Some people must have had good luck.  I did not.  My team lead left shortly after Trancend aquired the company I was with.....mabye things would have been different if she had stayed.

Two page of testing, ten voice files Med and Rad sm
for 8 cpl? No way. Thanks again.
Maybe they forgot to attach the voice files?

You usually get sent the tranny part as voice files and you'd do them in that particular
s
It is Chartscript. You can use WP5.1 or Word. Voice files
are DVI.
Voice files that was sent to me were of totally awful quality!! sm
Would not touch it with a 10 foot pole and I have lots of years of experience.
Or the voice files may already be there "somewhere" for you to click on and play and you

Maybe a problem with voice files downloading like yesterday. nm

DOn't feel alone, I couldn't hear voice files and (sm)
thought there was a problem again, then realized I was using the wrong foot pedal. Double Duh for me this morning.
it sounds like they use FTP to send files though
I did find out that much so I'll throw that one the window!
Look at smaller MTSOs that want to send you files
in Word.  You'll need to go MOM AND POP shop because it seems all of the larger companies have what you don't want, which is what I don't want and totally despise.  All of these junk-u-scribe platforms seem to benefit the company and not the MT.
Test dictations are often bogus and not true voice files from the company. Need to ask. nm
s
I'd have to agree with the testing of 6 voice files. Turned me off. Who has time to spend doing a
of those tests... I need a job not a day of testing.
No experience because I couldnt even take the transcription tests. The voice files would not play.
How about you? I was bummed. I was really interested in the job but I tried everything to get the voice files to play but they wouldnt. Oh well, I guess if it were meant to be, then I would have been able to take the test.
Any place to get free practice voice files or does anyone offer testing that could be accessed w/o
x
Yippee - I finally got a call back and did the test files last night
I hate sent another email and even called, but she was out of office. When recruiter sent the test files, she apologized for being out of touch and even thanked me for my persistence.

By the way, I was not talking about Medscribe at all. It is a totally different company.

Wish me luck!
Back-end voice recognition
Just learned my company will be doing a system upgrade that will include what they call the beginnings of back- end voice recognition. I think the company mainly uses one system for all its accounts, so does this mean that all accounts will now have to go to back-end VR and I'll become an editor, or is it possible that only certain accounts will go this way??? I'm really concerned, as I don't want to do VR because it seems so many people that post say they lose money doing editing, and when I was hired I was told they were not going to go to VR. Seems like things have changed and I don't know what to expect. Any info appreciated. Thanks.
Did you have to send them back
Just asking.
Do you mean you send it back to the MT?
or do you just give the website with feedback?
Has anyone heard back from Milner Voice and Data since their current ad? nm

Companies who transcribe wave files?
Hi.  I am looking for a good company who will transcribe medical wave files and return them completed in 24 hours via the internet.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?   Thanks.
Send them an email to ask and see if it comes back. nm
s
I simply send back a reply to
all political emails to ANYONE that thinks I don't have the intelligence to form my own opinions and say return to sender.  Some have definitely stopped.
Which companies do oral testing instead of sending files to type? nm

They did send the reports back to me. I guess I figured they
knew what I was going through and would understand that it would get better. They tell me that the account requested me off. I find that hard to believe as I have never heard of such a thing in 15 years of MT.
Yes I send the feedback back to the MT with the website provided..
that way they can see how easy it was for them to do the research and they can fill in the blank themselves, rather than being lazy and having me do it for them...:)
one line for listening to work - internet to send back.

i'd like to know too. i did send an email back before wasting more of my time to see if the work

Tried to send you a msg, but it got bounced back. Can you give us the initials of this place

Voice Recognition Companies
Can anyone tell me what companies use voice recognition?  I have an interview with Focus Infomatics today and I am unsure about them.  I do like the idea of the voice recognition software.  What other companies offer the same type of platform?  Can you make better money this way?  Sorry for all the questions I am just trying to make a good choice here.  Thanks for any help!
voice recognition companies
I come to this site  frequently to read up on the advice that you all offer on companies.  Can anyone give me names of companies out  there that offer voice recognition......reputable companies that pay on time, treat their employees good, decent pay, etc.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
POLL: Which companies are currently using Voice Recognition

I am currently looking to change companies, and from the posts I have seen, VR does not seem to be too popular, with a huge cut in cpl, so I want to put those companies at the bottom of my list.

Could everyone please list their COMPANY NAME and if they are

  Currently using VR

Planning to switch to VR soon

Any comments about cpl, how long it took to get back up to previous pay, and if you like VR would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Any companies who DON'T make you do voice recognition?

I can't stand VR and am looking for a new job where it is just straight typing like it should be - anybody work for companies who are not jumping on this wagon?

What companies offer ASR/voice recognition??

Besides DSG and possibly Precyse?

Thanks in advance!

Transcend, MQ and other companies using voice recognition thoughts .....sm

It amazes me that I'm seeing so much negativity on the board here regarding the new speech recognition programs out there  and the companies using them - and yet I see posts that in the companies using these systems most of the accounts have not been switched to these formats for editing. It appears to me that many of you are fearing the changes and fussing without actually working with the systems to see what it can (and can't) do for you and your productivity.

I've been in this industry since the 70s and remember when carbon paper was replaced with copiers.  Yup, some MTs (back then called "typists") thought they'd be replaced by a copier because they would no longer be typing say a Social Security  Disability Physical 3 times to give all of the copies necessary .... and yet they weren't replaced.

Next computers came out.  "The sky is falling and we'll be replaced by machines" was feared by many.... yet the field is still growing in jobs available.

Some of you old timers may remember programs like Foxx and other word processing programs out there way before WordPerfect was even dreamed of... and when you began typing with those programs you feared your job would be replaced.  Nope, still working all of these years later.

Then came along WordPerfect, followed by Word and now other programs that are better and help you be more productive - without taking away your job.

Face the facts, folks.   Technology is changing and with the government mandate that all medical records be on an electronic format within a few years hospitals have to try to find ways to cut costs to be able to afford this.... and speech recognition is the way to get this achieved.   Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance reimbursements continue to decrease to hospitals so they have to cut costs where-ever they can.   In the 1990s when I worked for a cardiovascular surgery group they would be reimbursed approximately $7000 for a triple bypass, and now they're lucky to get $1800... and yet the cost of running a surgical practice has gone up.

There are now even robots to assist surgeons instead of nurses but yet a surgical RN is still in the operating room, because there are times the robot isn't going to be able to do what is needed for the surgeon.  Are surgical nurses screaming that the sky is falling and they'll be replaced?  I'm sure that some are - but others are realizing that they still have plenty of job opportunities still in the operating room because the computer will be helping them, not replacing them.

The goal of speech recognition programs is to help you do your job quicker and more effectively, not replace you.  Think about that dictator from heck who talks 100 words per nannosecond while eating - the one you think nasty thoughts about the second you see his/her name pop up onto the screen.  I've seen some of these same speech recognition systems produce a darned good draft - and I was able to edit this report much faster than I could have even typed the motor mouth one time, much less go back through 3 times to fill in my own blanks, because the system helped me out on deciphering the jibbery-goo.

The bottom line is this:  You shouldn't knock such systems until you try them.   I've got MT friends who thought they would hate editing and actually love it once they got used to it.

With these systems infiltrating the market you can try to run and hide from them, but eventually they'll find you (just like the copiers, computers and various software programs have).   Another positive is that by companies using these programs that ARE helping keep your job here in the US.   The foreign-based MTs have a much harder time editing reports because they're not familiar enough with the language to easily spot the errors the system makes that the veteran MT would spot quickly.

We'd all love to go back to the days of getting paid 15 cpl for a gross line of work but if you ask around, in the industry the average company now collects 12-14 cpl, 65 character line, for transcription and much less than that for edited reports.  Therefore the high salaries are gone and it's all due to competition.  Back when the going rates charged to hospitals was 22-25 cpl for a gross line the higher line rates were abound, but that has all changed not only in this industry but others.  For example, look at the airlines - used to be that if you flew from New York to San Francisco Angeles it would cost you around $700 and now you can book it for around $260.  That's what competition has done to that industry.  I'm sure that none of you will call Delta and insist that you pay $700 for that flight just to help save the jobs of their employees who are looking at the strong possibility of that airline bankrupting on them.

Therefore I encourage everyone to try new things before you knock them - you just might even like the new things on the market even better, and you'll find your hands and wrists suffer less wear and tear.

offshore - most companies send
only what their current staff cannot get done or if the hospital specifically demands it - how does this take away from the MT or is it the fault of the MTSO?? I think everyone is angry at the wrong party - - everyone (companies and MTs) do what the hospitals are demanding
Are there any companies out there that actually send you a test that -sm

you can hear so that you can actually type what is being said or are they all so distorted so bad that no one could possibly make out what is being said???  I currently started looking and so far I haven't gotten a test yet that I can possibly make out more than half of what is being said.  I am starting to get discouraged.

Thanks.

Question: Are there any companies left out there that send give X-mas
presents?  I sent my MTSO a christmas card last year and got a big fat nothing in return.  Is it too much to expect a little something for the holidays, even if it's just a card?
I have no respect for companies that send work overseas
Don't you think we have enough people right here in the US without jobs? Instead of paying a decent wage for an MT, companies get greedy and undercut our workforce of extremely talented and hard working MTs of which a large percentage are single moms.
Are there any companies left who don't send work offshore?
?
send resumes to the smaller companies, try your state first, and then branch out. sm
they are out there. If you can put your money where your mouth is and prove your skills, these small to mid size companies will grab you. I work for a mid-sized MTSO in my state. They absolutely do not outsource overseas, do not mess with VR, and I make .10 at minimum, more depending on the specialty I get. I bounce around between 5 specialties, but have become familiar enough with each specialty to make a good line count. Sorry, I'd rather not share who I work for. The company does not even advertise. You will find many of these companies do not advertise because very seldom are they in need of MTs, as most of their MTs stay with them for years.
How long does it take TransHealth to get back to someone when you send a resume? I sent a resume
x
I would check back with the companies
and just ask them what you may or may not have done wrong so you know in the future. I have done that in the past and they are usually polite and helpful.
That has been known to happen. companies scratch each other's back. nm

with everyone bailing out of their companies, it's no wonder i never heard back
from the company that offered me a job this week! Acusis cutting pay, now Amphion, Transtech going VR, what is next?
Ditto! Also add that they ignore e-mails you send and send endless IMs!
