What companies pay for downtime? sm
As in, you are an employee (not IC) and you run out of work.
Any companies that currently pay downtime?

Companies that pay downtime
I've seen on the boards that the famous Axolotl pays for downtime when there is no work available.  Are there any other companies that do this?  Thx.
Can someone list all the MT companies that exist?
I've tried to find a complete listing of every MT company that exists, but no luck. Can anyone here provide me with that or at least tell me where to get it? Thanks
I have 2 companies on my list to apply to if
MQ sinks and Medware is one of them! Thanks for the info!
List of companies using ExText? sm
Can anyone give me a list of companies that use ExText? Looking for part-time position and IC or employee; specialize in OPs, 10+ yrs experience.  Thanks in advance!
Go to this link for list of companies

where you will find 2 more links regarding companies that hire new grads.
Maybe list the bad companies instead of the good
I don't really blame the person that has the great job for not wanting to post it on the board. I had a great job at one time and they lost their big accounts and I lost the job. Now I got a good job, but the pay isn't much unfortunately, but the work is good and steady.

Maybe people rather wouldn't mind listing the names of companies they worked for and got burned or hated the job for whatever reasons.

If there are any good companies they are few and far between unfortunately. I was making more per line 10 to 20 years ago than now. Our rates have not increased. The only difference is we are on computers now instead of typewriters. I don't think any of these companies care about us as people. We are just money makers for them. That's their bottom line. I'd love to know how much they are getting per line from the hospitals. Probably 16 cents a line and we are getting 8. It really stinks. The only way to make more is to work more and more. And then when you work like 8 hours overtime and see your check it really is disgusting how little it added up to. At least in the days where we were employees at hospitals our overtime pay would be so great that it made it worth it.
Is there a list of companies that DON'T OFFSHORE?

If not, can we list them here?  I'm tired of getting laid off or not having enough work from companies who're sending work to India.

If you know of a company that doesn't offshore, it would also be nice if you could say whether or not they require VR.

Thanks in advance to anyone who participates -- we're all in this together!

Would like to know list of companies that use Webtop please?
Anyone know of companies that use the program, Webtop?  Thanks!
Here is a list of companies that offshore ... FYI

See study overview table from 2008 MTSO study:

What is sad is that you'll get a longer list of companies
People with skill and experience are too costly to most large MTSOs.  Quantity is more important than quality because, after all, it's cheaper to hire a couple skilled professionals to clean up the mess of the larger group of unexperienced/unskilled MTs that they can hire for a lot less.
List of companies that use Dictaphone platform??
I like working on the Dictaphone platform and would like to find a company that uses this platform.. preferably with low ESL.  Tried a company that had Dictaphone but the ESL was so bad I could not get a good line count.
And a lot of the lists are made up of companies that pay to be on the list. sm
I think your best bet is to either go with someone who is well known or go with a small company if you know someone who works there.
Can anyone share a compiled list of companies

And a second list of companies USA only? This would be a great reference tool for those of us who have made a personal choice to only work for USA firms.  I thought about compiling a list, but am afraid it would not be all-inclusive, and I know that some of you out there are very knowledgeable and have done much research.

Also on the American ones, perhaps if you know they cheat on line counts, pay, give the run around, that would help too.  I could probably help with that but again it would not be all inclusive.

Maybe we can get a few posts together and share notes.  I think that this kind of list of all of our experiences (collectively would be a great reference tool), and perhaps it could be saved here somewhere, maybe earmarked for future reference so people would not have to constantly search through archives.  Why reinvent the wheel over and over again if we could have all this info in 1 place.

I think that if we work all collectively, we can improve our working conditions, because MTSOs on that list will be held accountable at least by the amount of people who read this board and support the ideas which seem to come up often here, namely, keep it in the USA, keep wages fair, treat the remote MT/QA professionally, etc.

When gas prices went through the roof the American public cut back and you see now, gas prices are going down. This should be an example to us that if we all work together throughout the country, changes must be made by those who are cheating the MT.  By us having this information, and keeping it here, then people can have a great list to keep in their back pocket, and finally companies will be held accountable.

I will be willing to put some into the list, but I don't know it all so I need help.  Will wait for feedback first. Thanks in advance for listening to my idea.

OP asked for a list of companies that DO offshore (sm)
Inside the post she asked to start a second list of companies who keep work here in the USA.  I understood the post, and was merely listing Keystrokes as someone who does NOT offshore to go on the second list of companies that keeps work here.  KS does NOT offshore and they never will.
Here is a compiled list of Indian MT companies
http://mtherald.com/medical-transcription-companies-in-india-a-detailed-list/

Checkout this list. You've two more such lists on that blog, totaling three.

One thing you need to know with the Indian companies is that the rates are low and you cannot earn as much as you can in the US.
Please form a list of nonVR companies

It would be great to have all in 1 place companies which do not have VR (and they usually are all USA too).  I can only come up with 2 to start, but please add to the list.  This would certainly help out those who do not wish to take the leap at this time into that kind of technology.  Thanks for adding to the list.

1.  Keystrokes.  Very little VR, lots of straight typing.  No overseas.

2.  SoftScript.  I think all straight typing.  I do believe no overseas.

Please add to the list. It would be a helpful tool for many of us. Sorry I can't think of more, but then again, that is why I am creating this post. Thanks again.

Correction to list below of Companies that do not off shore
Optiscript in State College,Pa DOES off shore. I was offered a job with them until I heard from a very reliable source that they even have offices out of the country. Stay away!
Still good companies in my opinion...was not on the list. Check them out for yourself OP

Partial list of companies providing a computer...sm

Diskriter, Precyse, Opti-Script (Penn.), CIT (Charts in Time), WebMedX, Spheris, and Amphion.  Transcend used to. Maybe someone can say whether Transtech or MQ still do. I do not know if you have to be FT in order to get computer provided with any of these companies. Opti-Script in Penn. WILL provide one for part-timers. Good luck!

I just emailed Mr. Dobbs with a partial list of MT companies
that outsource that weren't on his list.  Thanks for the link!
good list of companies for straight typers
1. Keystrokes
2. SoftScript
3. Digital Transcription Systems, Inc. (DTS--Oklahoma)
4. TRS, LLC (N.Carolina)
5. Silent Type, Inc.
6. TransPro Medical Transcription, Inc.
7. New England Medical Transcription, Inc. (NEMT)
8. Southern Transcription Services,Inc (Georgia)
They're not listed on MTD's Companies list. Maybe do a Yahoo search? nm

I have an idea..we should all start a list of MT companies that are no payers, bad payers, and late
but it is even worse when no one knows their record until they find out the hard way as they sit around waiting to get paid. I think it's rude to bounce checks, pay people late or not at all. We're not all working for free because we wanted to donate our time. We need to work to survive and those companies just prey on people. If they are getting paid, yet they can't pay their MTs, I'd say that someone doesn't know how to manage money. I just find it sad.
How do you know list is true? I can make a list,
x
Downtime? What's that?

Downtime
They pay $12/hr downtime, includes system/platform problems (on their end) and periods of no work. It does not cover things on the MT end, including electric failure and internet failure.
Downtime
Can anyone name a few companies that pay downtime?
downtime
Because I hired on as a FT employee and constantly running out of work which is out of my control - I have to sit here and wait while I pay daycare and not make any money - I need 40 hours a week to live - I wasn't looking for parttime work.  I think all companies should pay downtime when it their fault we have no work
Some do pay downtime, not all like MQ.
.
Downtime
Thanks, and I will check on that this morning. I will come back and post what I'm told. When I was hired and also during training, they went over the procedures for downtime pay, both no-work and technical. I'll definitely put it on here, though, for confirmation. Thanks, Dolfan!
Don't lie about it. They don't pay for downtime.
xx
Downtime (sm)
If you're out of work, you are paid downtime, but you have to keep checking back every 10-15 minutes.

Answering of questions isn't as bad as other poster said. First couple weeks it is great, though, when you really need it.

They were up front with me about no shift differential before I took the position and pay, etc.

Yes, there is a lot of preemployment stuff, but it is the hospital requirement and not DR.

If you live in the tricounty area (Dade, Broward, Palm Beach) the health insurance is very good, so the preemployment is kind of worth it if you need insurance.

Regarding samples. I'm not even sure if the other poster was on this account because with the software, you have access to all reports dictated and transcribed by all physicians or any reports typed on the patient you are transcribing. So no samples are really necessary.

Definitely shift intensive. But every job has it's drawbacks. It's all about a good fit. Maybe DR isn't for you, but I just wanted to correct a few incorrect statements by the other poster.
downtime
Does KS have a lot of downtime? Do they pay you for it?
they don't pay for anything, no downtime..sm
no holidays, NO overtime...8 cpl that is it, nada, nothing more. Owners are making a killing tho....
And they don't pay 1 penny of downtime
when the system is down for hours at a time.
I hear they pay for downtime; don't know much else
Never worked there, and of course I would defer to people who have!
So when you say paid for downtime...

do you mean that they actually pay you if no work available, not just for equipment failure on their part?

If compensated for times of no work on your schedule (at what rate?  minumum wage or other?), some of the folks on the MQ Board need to hear this, I think.

Transolutions Downtime
This is true. They pay both technical and no-work downtime. I was hired a month ago (WONDERFUL company) and have it right here in front of me in the employee handbook. So long as you are a full-time employee, report your downtime to the appropriate person, and haven't refuse work on another account that does have work, you will be paid for downtime. If they have no work on another account for you, you are paid downtime. Have a great day!
Downtime? hahaha

There has been no mention of that and I'm sure it wont happen.

When the system is fixed, the most we'll get is double the amount of emails telling us how much work there is and how we all need to give us food/sleep/bathroom time to get it caught up.

Yes, I get paid DOWNTIME when

there is no work around and I also get PTO, paid VISION, very good health insurance with company paying 80%, dental for less than 15 per pay period and a great atmosphere.  Yes, I do have to produce 12000 per pay period.

How does TransTech pay out PTO, and do they pay downtime?nm
xx
Paid for downtime...
Paid for downtime with Transcend? We don't. We get told to flex out time out.
DOWNTIME NOT ALLOWED

I did not get downtime even with a ticket# and having to wait 2 days for another computer. All I got was a BS stating reasons not to give me downtime and that I could take PTO or not get paid for those 2 days.

Thank God I have next week off. I don't think I can stand much more of this BS.

0 in last month, maybe 3 hr in last year downtime.
x
emts pays for downtime
eMTS pays for downtime when there is no work or when there are system problems.
Check on that downtime issue
They are a wonderful company; however, they may not have updated the manual, because they have dc'd paying for no work downtime only recently, I would say within the last few months. They do pay for technical downtime but not for no work any longer. Check with your lead or personnel.
Do you guys get paid for downtime?

That's one thing about MQ I'm thankful for.  At least we get paid for our downtime.  I don't know if we'll get paid for the jobs we've lost, though.  Some say yes, some say no.  I guess it's up to the PS.

Check out the MQ board - there's a link to check the status of DQS on their site.  The link takes you directly to MQ's DQS, but I would think they offer it for all clients they serve.

Last I checked at 7:30 am EST, it was still down for MQ.  Some MQ MTs are getting work, but I wouldn't until it at least gives you the yellow light (see site).

It's like a snow day - you're glad to be off unexpectedly, but you know you'll have to make it up!

In our dreams we would get paid for downtime
Kind of like the office staff is still getting paid while the ones producing their income don't.
No pay for downtime. You are asked to flex. NM
