Companies who do not require set hours?

Posted By: dee on 2009-01-13

I am in need of an IC position that does not require set hours.  I am presently working for a company that I told I would be on line anywhere between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m., but that was unacceptable, they wanted set hours.  So I gave 8 p.m to 12 p.m. but I am not able to comply with that every day.  There are some days I would like to start earlier, and some days start later.  I would think if I gave them a set line limit that I would be accountable for that that would be acceptable, evidently not though.  Any companies out there hiring that has a 24-hour timeframe?

Companies that require ONLY lines - not certain hours, preferably internet sm

Thank you. Then TT has right to require set hours

Cannot require you set hours, but also
do not have to give you work during the hours you want.
How many hours does MQ require for PT?
Is there a minimum line requirement plus minimum hour requirement per week? Thanks!
checkout First Choice, they don't require hours
they have you pick days and on the days you work they want you to take at least 45 minutes of dictation
Do all MTSOs require 39+ hours to qualify for

MDI-MA does not require a set schedule- you do your required lines in 24 hours. nm

Does Axolotl require 40 hours for full time
Also, what is the average most MTs type in a pay period? I know 12,000 is the minimum, but is it possible to type quite a bit more than that with their platform? THANKS!
Only require 400 lines completed within 24 hours....good company...

Any companies that allow line count rather than hours or less than 20 hours per week? (sm)

Wouldn't mind having something extra especially with Christmas and general winter expenses coming up but working a FT job and really don't want to do another 20 hours on top of that.

Do any companies require less than 40 hpw for FT?

Companies should require MTs to have sm
a complete reference library as most newbies rely expressly on Google or the word help boards. This is where US MT quality has hit the skids in very recent years. The new MTs don't want to bother researching so they can't possibly realize the serious mistakes they continue to make.

All companies who require OT have to pay for it (sm)

If a company has enough work for OT, by law the employee has to record it and the company has to pay it (if the employee has been approved to work the OT).  Get everything in writing.  For MTs, OT is usually the normal cpl rate x 1.5 for OT lines, which equates to the same as time and a half as mandated by federal laws.

All companies I know of go back and forth between no work and gobbs of OT.  I don't know of any company that consistently is out of work or consistently requires OT.  Feast of famine in this industry.

I think the companies that DO require
you to clock in and out are few.
What I said was that few companies do require it, so
most of them don't require it.
There are some companies who only require
35 hours.  You might be able to get by with producing the minimal line counts though if it is a company that doesn't require you to clock in and out.
A lot of companies only require line

Which companies will let/require me to use Shorthand? sm
I hope the mods will leave this since I've already researched and cannot find the answer on the job board.

I love ShortHand and have been building my Shorthand file for many years now. It's definitely tied to my ability to produce. I know of two companies that use it:

Webmedx - employees use Shorthand
Oracle - may use Shorthand (not sure if it's required).

Any others? And please let me know if required or optional. Thank you very much for your help!
Most companies require a certain quota be met
Even as an IC I committed myself to 180 reports a day. I do anywhere from 180-225. I did not sign a contract but did commit to it.
some companies require 1500 lpd -

To the companies that require cable or DSL

I have no access to cable and never will because of the area I live in.  I also have no access to DSL and do not know when that will happen, if ever.   Companies that required cable or DSL should know that they lose out on many experienced and qualified transcriptionists because of that requirement.  Like Diskriter--ever since I started job seeking a few weeks ago they have had post after post looking for transcriptionists.  I cannot apply because they need high speed internet.  What exactly needs the high speed?? Downloading voice files, uploading voice files.  I am curious.  I work for a company that I downloaded the voice files via internet, typed the files in Word and then uploaded them via internet site and/or FTP.  Easy to do and no high speed required.  Can anyone enlighten me?

I need a job like yesterday but my options are very limited.  I put a query on the board looking for companies that are okay with dialup and got only two names.  That is very disheartening.  Anyone out there with company names that do dialup still would be very appreciated.  Email me if you want, whatever, something.

Thank you all.

Most companies now require a weekend day. I
suggest posting your resume on the various job boards in addition to looking at the ads posted.
Most companies these days require
employees to work at least 1 weekend day. T think any of them would be delighted to have someone who wanted to work both.
Most companies these days require a
weekend day, even hospitals require at least 1 a month if not more. It is the norm. This is a 24/7 job, 365 days a year.
Companies that require five years' experience...sm
This October, I will be working as an MT for five years. I'm now looking to change companies and I notice there are several who require a minimum of five years' experience.

Would I be better off waiting until October, when I will have been an MT for five years, to change? Do these companies pay any better than those who require less experience? Or are they all pretty much the same and I may as well go ahead and apply to the ones who have less stringent prerequisites?

I've only worked for one MT company so I'm not very savvy on the MT marketplace. Any advice would be appreciated.
Which companies require credit checks?....
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but requiring drug tests, background and credit checks smacks of total disregard for my privacy. It is disrespectful, to say the least, not to mention insulting.

If an employer feels justified to approach me with implied suspicions that I may be a drug addict, criminal or a deadbeat on my way IN the front door, no telling what lies in store for me once I step through it.

I do not bring my personal life to my job and would never consent to what amounts to an administrative strip-search by giving an employer free access to my private information. If they ask for this, it tells me they have nothing to offer me.

I am currently doing a job search and would love to know which companies are doing this, so as not to waste their time or mine.
Do all companies require you to work 1 year before you can take vacation?

Meaning you are an employee, of course.  Just wondering if there is any hope out there.  If you start with a company and it turns out horrible, then you have to start all over again, waiting for another year to go by.  I don't want to wish my life away!!

Thanks everyone!

The reasons companies require high-speed

internet can vary, even if you can download via FTP.   It seems like a lot of companies use a platform now where you have to be on-line while you work as you are typing live into their system.  Other companies may have only a couple of lines to be able to download so they want you to have high-speed to make it quicker.   If the company has an FTP you aren't accessing a phone line and can download even at a very slow dial-up speed.

I've seen companies advertise and say you need a C-phone and a high-speed connection.   I don't know that just because a company may have an FTP site for you to download that it will eliminate the need for high-speed depending on what their platform is.

Lots of companies require you to work live in their
system and dial-up won't allow you to do that.   Some companies ask for DSL/Cable so it is less taxing on their servers for people to download.  I know there were companies who are okay with dial-up because you just download and then work off-line, but I think those numbers are dwindling.
How many companies do not require you to fill out a time clock? NM
Thanks.
Big deal! Lots of companies require certain things whether it be software, sm
footpedals, a certain version of Word, etc. I have an Infinity footpedal and I have used Expresscribe with it previously; however, StartStop is totally worth the money as it works with it as well.
Most companies need certain hours
and a certain amount of lines.  This is a job and just like any other job, you can't work just when you feel like it.  This attitude can cause a company to lose accounts due to lack of coverage.  A company with steady work flow is a good company to work for, and if the MT is not reliable the company suffers through losing accounts and then there not a steady work flow and the MTs lose out in the end with no work.  I am sorry to sound like I am lecturing, but your attitude is not professional and I would definitely not hire you as you do not sound reliable, nor somebody that I could count on to get the work out and back to the client.
What companies have 10 or less hours per week...
Most companies want 20 hours for part time, but with working outside the home, it's hard to swing it.  Anyone know of any?  Thanks so much.
Any companies out there that allow you to work 5-10 hours a week?
I have a full time job, but need to make a bit more income.  Are there any good companies that might work for me?  Thanks for any input.
Any companies let you accrue PTO with less than 40 hours per week? (sm)
WMX used to give  FT benefits at 35 hours per week.  I can do without the insurance, etc.  but really hate to give up PTO.
Any companies hiring for 300 lines a day and very flexible with hours? SM

I am looking to work for a company who is looking for some overflow help, 300 lines a day.  I am willing to give and take a little in regards to the work schedule.  If some days there is not enough to get 300 lines that is fine and if some days there is an abundance of work and you may require more from me, that is fine also.

I would love to find a company who uses a transcription-friendly software like DocQScribe (not sure of spelling) or Inscribe.  I am also looking for a flexible schedule, where I can just hop on throughout the day and transcribe.

Does anybody know of such a company?  I would be more than grateful to hear of any.

Thanks so much!!!!

Are most part-time jobs with companies a few hours every day or are there
jobs that exist where you can work a few days during the week? If you can help, thank you!
Which companies consider full-time 35 hours per week? THX......nm

Any bigger companies out there that do 10+ hours flex time?
I'm looking for a job to supplement my income on top of my full-time MT job, but really need one that allows me to log on at any time throughout the week and do, say, 2,000 lines a week or 10 hours a week or something like that.

Are there any companies out there that still offer this or is it too much to hope for? Anyone have a company they would like to recommend? Thanks.
Any companies with part-time clinic work/daytime hours? Thanks!! nm

Sorry, I work 15 hours a day 5 days a week and 5 hours the other 2, when I come here I dont proof.
nm
Why would they give you a choice of 16 or 24 hours. Usually part time is anything under 37 hours.

That is extremely odd. Well they must have something up their sleeves. Well I will be working elsewhere part time as well as with MQ as I have no intention of sitting 40 hours with no work from Amherst and be expected to have 150 lph with no work. What is all this window of work time they said they would be giving everyone. I figured all along they would do away with SE. I have already been looking around and ordered a new computer  to send theirs back.

the day has 24 hours, I work only 6-8 hours, so, lots of time to post...nm
nm
Must we choose either 8, 16 or 24 hours. Why would they want someone only working 8 hours a week.
That is less than SE are required now.
MDI-FL. Approximately 7 hours a month x12 months =84 hours
And your PTO acrues from day 1. You are just unable to utilize it until after 90 days. They have excellent benefits.
You can have insurance at 30 hours with Encompass, 32 hours with eTransPlus. nm

10-15 an hour for 8 hours is better than nothing for 8 hours when there is no work.
x
You do not get PTO for 16 hours a week. 24 hours or more for the PTO. nm
:
That's exactly what I was going to say. Yes, I work at least 12 hours a day, sometimes 15 hours
to get all of my line count in because I have so many interruptions in my day.  There is no way I would tell my company this nor expect them to pay me OT that they never asked you to do. Unless, I was called by my supervisor and asked to work extra for OT, I would never just take it upon myself to work and expect to be paid.  If you were not authorized to work OT, then your not getting paid. Point blank. I do not work at TT, but I have worked at enough jobs, at home as an MT and otherwise outside of home, that all have the same policy, your paid OT when your asked to work it. It's it is just a case of not being able to get your required line count in 8 hours, then maybe your in the wrong profession or possibly just the wrong company/account for you. This just seems bizarre to me. Just tell yourself, your not getting paid for OT because they aren't approving it so don't work it. Again, if you were asked to work OT, told it would be OT, and then they ask you not to record it, I'd pitch a fit, but from what I see, you've done this on your own.
? 13.33 for 3 hours ($4.44 hours) am I doing it right. Geez!!!!!i
