I just called the office and was told there has been no change made in their QA policy.

BOS is BS when we remove the O, right?
The BOS used to be a good tool. The new version is horrendous and all the English teachers and professors I had during my education would roll over in their graves if they saw the new rules. I use the old version along with all I learned from the wonderful teachers I had the good fortune to have and quite a few tried and true reference books. I could never take seriously and use advice from a book of style that does not even believe in the complete sentence concept. Sometimes, if there is a serious gray area, I research in current medical journals for the standards used by the PHYSICIANS themselves, not some panel or whatever of bumblers who want to create their own reality. They make a great deal of money from selling this schmuck, so my advice is to get the old book of style and take good care of it, get Stedmans Word Books, use proper grammar, spelling, and research at reliable sites who have nothing to gain from creating an artificial reality in the medical language arena. Now that AAMT is no longer an American organization I have my serious doubts about anything they put forward. As for standards at work so everyone will create a uniform document, I must comment that if those documents are uniformly wrong, then have any of us gained anything? If there are 20 transcriptionists all using the same wrong reference is that progress? Is that good patient care? That is why medical Transcriptionist jobs exist, remember? Another thought, if someone publishes and sells a book that changes the alphabet as we know it, grammar and usage as we know it, or say even the names of everything as we know them would we all run out and buy that and change our language accordingly? Would a wagon then be a Wagun because the new book stated that was the true and correct name? Give me a break. A wagon is a wagon. A complete sentence is a complete sentence. Graves' disease is that way because a guy named Graves discovered the disease. It could also be typed as Graves's disease (but that is funny-looking). He was not named Grave. That is where you go when they bury you, right? That is why it is not Grave's disease.

Thank you for this platform on which to vent my anger and disgust with all of this. My physicians are professionals in the medical field. I produce their documents to reflect their professionalism and to enable them to provide excellent patient care, no matter what BOS says or does not say.
but it does not remove anything....
from the registry, so if the program was set to load anything automatically into ram when you start your computer or reboot it, it will continue to use your ram. You have to go to a technician thant KNOWS how to clean up your registry to get rid of all the remnants of a program. CCLEANER cleans up your hard drive.

Can we remove our glossary from company computer?

I am attempting to move a glossary which I created over 4 years via e-mail which is proving to be difficult as an attachment to use on my PC for a side job.

Is there a company policy that says we cannot do this?  (Spheris).

Yes, they'll have to remove superlatives from the web site
No longer can they put the best, proudest, most dedicated and conscienscious MTs. New PR/advertising will in the future say:

Acusis...our American employees are just average and only moderately concerned with quality, but by Vishnu, our management eats the best samosas and curry a rupee can buy!!
I just asked the moderator to remove Denise's post...sm
from the board. Since we all figured that she must be new on this board making such a faux pas, I thought that she does not know how to tell the moderator to remove her post.

Nothing will change unless we make it change..SM
As long as we accept the exploitation that this MT profession has reduced us to, it will keep going on.  The top of this is the outsourcing.... well, get your legislators involved....better yet, the MEDIA.  How many patients know their private medical information is being outsourced to halfway around the world? The squeeky wheel gets the grease.  Do the patients know that their info won't be sold by some unscrupulous MT (halfway around the globe) to insurance companies, etc., making all this Medical records privacy a joke. It's not just our T-shirts being made in other countries; it's our most personal, private medical information, of which the public is not being made aware of.  Not to speak of undercutting out profession to the bare bone.  Granted, most US MTs are willing to work below market wage just to have a job, especially in economically-deprived areas, where outside jobs are scarce, and kids need to be fed and mortgages need to be paid.  MTSOs know this.  I'll bet they'll be the first to lobby against any action against outsourcing.  (Wouldn't you be...if you got people to work for pennies while you're raking in the big $$$'s ?  Still, notwithstanding the outsourcing problem, we're still going along with all the BS...working for pennies, whatever the client wants, he gets... ever notice how all of the MTSO flak seems to be re. unpaid work...mostly, demographic issues we're not even paid for... bec. It has to be done.. Part of the job... The client put the wrong info but we have to correct it...all unpaid work.  Just give me a job with nothing but straight transcription, w/o the unpaid/demo. flak..I'll take it even at the present, absurd pennies-per-line state of the profession.
I don't hesitate to ask. Have been told "yes", and have been told "no." Never been to

Re: Why would anyone be WILLing to slave over this work for 27-YEAR-OLD wages?

Actually would be correct to have just said regressive wages...

this isn't clear:

The corporations call the shots with YOUR Congress/government primarily because AMERICANS are so easily pacified and distracted by the toys these corporations made for that exact purpose.

They (corporations) call the shots because of their influence; and CONGRESS helped to give them that power in the late 1800s by passing certain laws which gave the corp. similar rights to individuals...

I mixed two thoughts originally...

Correction - sorry
feedback on that PROGRAM (i.e. Isagenix), not problem.
rad pay correction
I need to clarify this was only for emergency coverage and is temporary.   My supervisor informs me that once we go to VR, only 2 inhouse full-time transcriptionists will be used and those positions are filled.

Correction...Not 12 cpl...
You'd have to make between 10.72 and 10.1 cpl for straight typing to make 7.5 cpl for ISR at Webmedx. I don't think a relative newbie with only 5 years experience is making over 8.5 cpl starting with Webmedx. Correct me if I'm wrong. I just don't believe it for a minute.
Just a correction...sm
your base rate is NOT $9....it is based on YOUR line rate, so for everyone it is different. I actually get quite a bit more than that. Also, Medware has more than one platform, so what is happening on the Dictaphone side is NOT necessarily happening on the Merit side, and not everyone is unhappy on the Dictaphone side. Not THAT many have left. Just so you know and can make an informed decision.
Correction.
Completely different atmosphere on CMX side.

Whoops, I meant to say I HOPE, not I CAN. It's way late where I am, so I had best pack it in for the night. Sorry for the error.

I have also seen positive and negative things mentioned about virtually every transcription company discussed on this web site. Didn't mean to say companies that YOU discussed on this web site!!

OSI - I am so sorry - PLEASE NOTE CORRECTION
Note correction in CAPS

If you do control S for a job and click on statistics you will get a number of lines. If you are on OSI's very own line cheating Xpress server, that number will be much HIGHER (NOT LOWER) than the IChart line count. Do this. Do only one job for the day then write down the correct line count using the above method. Go to IChart although it may take hours to show up so you may want to do this on a day off. There is your proof. I-CHART LINES ARE LOWER THAN OSi X-PRESS LINES. The reason the correct statistics are disabled on the XPress server is because OSi is skimming lines and don't want you to see the correct number. OSI is diligently trying to eventually get every possible account on their very own XPress server so they can cheat on all accounts. Rest assured that they are billing the client for the correct line count. I could not make any money with OSI because of their dishonesty. Dictaphone Extext is a good system but OSI could change how it was set up and rip the MT's off.
Correction - sorry for confusion
I apologize for not checking this before -- I just found a problem with my suggestion, so here's the deal:

You are better off forcing the format - as you did to h:mm:ss (or hh:mm:ss), to ensure that all cells display consistently. This does force you to have to enter more digits for hours though.

There is a shortcut for entering data -- for 00:05:12 (5 minutes, 12 seconds), you can type: 0:5:12

For 00:05:01 you can type 0:5:1

This may be more foreign than just adding the extra leading zero, but if you're hyper about cutting every keystroke, you can....

Then when you add down a column, there's nothing special to do in the sum.

Sorry for any confusion.
Holidays correction
I'm sorry the above poster is right.  If you want off you have to take it without pay or use PTO.  You get paid extra if you work the holiday...which to me is a bonus as so many don't pay anything extra for holidays.  Sorry for the confusion.
Whose QA gets paid per correction?
We get paid hourly, although I do know there are some who get paid per line. The folks I know paid per line get credit for the full report, not just their corrections. They also are the first blamed if a client reports an error in a report that has passed through QA.

Oops--I know ISDN is a location-to-location thing so that's out as far as working for a national. I recall a while back that several MTs mentioned they worked for nationals using hughes.net/satellite. Thanks again for any info.

Correction to my above post. I just looked
and I apologize. I had to wait until the 1st of the next month, not the 15th (maybe it just seemed longer) for that money to be in the bank. So for that payroll from the 1st until the 15th, I had to wait until the 1st (though the payroll was late). Guess all the waiting just seemed longer. That still is the longest I have had to wait for a payday. So when I quit, I also had the same thing. I just went through the paperwork.

In any event it SEEMED like a very long time and particularly with some of the paydays being late.

I do apologize as I certainly do not like to give incorrect info.

When you have kids though it does hurt. In other words, I started on the 1st of the month and first paycheck was not until the 1st of the next month except it was late.

Correction: Don't get all excited now...they are NOT paying at least 8 cpl.

Correction: Should NOT expect to be paid

Whoops, I meant to say lowly MT, not lowly MD. (That wouldn't be me, I hated science.) I was up nearly all night last night working. No work shortage here. Anyway, sorry I made an error in typing, hope the grammar/typing cops don't launch their grenades at me. :)
