Depending on the reason you may not qualify for unemployment...sm

If an employer has good grounds for dismissal then unemployment won't be awarded.

I would get fired.. you would qualify for unemployement. If you quit, then you would not qualify..
As far as using them a reference, I would not worry about that.. From my experience, I have hardly had any potential employers check my references or when they did I just gave them the heads up about my version of what happened. Most are thankful of the honest as not every company is a fit for everyone. I doubt that would hold it against you.
I would think you qualify. . sm
A man quit at my husband's trucking company and then filed for unemployment. He told them there was not enough work. There was plenty of work, he just wanted to quit. He actually got the paid unemployment. It cost us a lot of money, and now he will only hire ICs. It was really unfair because the man quit. He was having trouble in his marriage and his wife wanted him to be home. So that's what he did. He quit and lived off the unemployment checks for 6 months or more. It doesn't hurt to check into it. It seems like if he could get it, you would be likely to qualify. Two weeks is a long time to go without work. Good luck!
Please qualify that statement..have you ever used DQS?sm
just tell me please before I jump into another rediculous platform full of demo screens to wade through before actual transcription.
I probably don't qualify to post

because I have yet to do VR.  However, my neighbor is working for a local clinic as an IC and she loves it.

However, from reading this board, what I pick up and I may clearly be off base but if you work for a good company VR is okay but a lot of places it seems are letting people use it that don't need to be using it and they are having to retype the report for half the pay.

Basically what it boils down to is who you work for.

Do not need FT status to qualify for UE - sm

They go according to work you have DONE in the past 52 weeks rather than what you were promised.  In my state, must have worked at least 20 week during last 52 weeks, earning $80.00 or more (may be $90 by now, data is couple of years back).  I don't think 1 day of no work would qualify, either.  Here there is a waiting period of 1 week - benefits start second week of unemployment.  So easy for employer to manipulate.

What DOES qualify though, as well, is a SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION in salary or hours originally agreed upon, not being paid at least minimum wage, and given title/job duties different from what originally hired for.

After my last 2 checks from Transcend, I now can qualify
to get food stamps and some living assistance.  Sure hope the big guys in the company - all those new bosses they hired  - are getting the same big pay cuts and low wages, but you can be sure the only thing they are doing is getting bigger backsides from sitting around sending out lies about how great this program is and how much they are doing to help us.  Larry, you need to get your act together and tell the truth for once.  You are not doing a d****ed thing to help anyone but yourself.
You still qualify for holiday pay as long as you sm
tried to work and have NSA messages. Ask your STM, just to verify. S/he should tell you that you'll still get the holiday pay b/c it isn't your fault that you're out of work.
Anyone switching from IC to FT for MQ - qualify for sign on bonus? (nm)
;
Can you tell me how long you have to wait before you qualify for insurance?
Thanks, and can I ask how many lines you do weekly (average) on their accounts? I noticed it has varied for me among diffent companies.
Do all MTSOs require 39+ hours to qualify for
nm
Nope, not a catch. The only thing you need to do to qualify I think is have been there one year in
to be eligible. They pay like four weeks at full pay (your average weekly earnings) or eight weeks at half pay. Your choice. They strongly believe that it's the right thing to do.
Does anyone know how long it takes before you qualify for insurance at Keystrokes? nm
x
depending on who you ask
If you ask me, not hardly.  Lets see, six weeks back pay still owing, heard more people are quitting and have not been paid, heard IRS is investigating, the district attorney is in the loop now as well as Department of Labor.  How many girls are still owed?.... It will not settle down with D&L until they PAYUP!  I will make sure of it!
Depending on DC
A friend of mine has a chiro account she's had for 15 years.  She charges 0.12 per line and a line is a line no matter how long it is (none of this gross line crap).  Not all chiros are cheapskates!
Actually, depending on where you are
They use Fedex and the actual charge from there to GA is $16 and some change so when I worked there they did make money off of that.
sometimes it can take a while, depending
on how busy they are, but if has been a few days you can email them and ask...... that's what I did
For me 3-5 hours..depending on
how focused I am that day, how many interruptions I have, whether the system is running slowly, etc.
Depending on where you live (sm)
this could be a very good position for you. The people I used to supervise (pathology transcriptionists in-house) made about $15-19 per hour depending on how long they had been there. This is in Southern California, though, where employers will pay a little more when transcriptionists are scarce.
Depending on your proximity to them I'd allow
it a couple more days.  DH company mailed his 1/30, in the same state, took 2 days to get here.   If you don't have it by the first of the week call them.
Probably depending on the position sm
but I imagine most will want to see a 98 at least.  Some might be more forgiving, especially with a somewhat newbie?  You'd be required to maintain a 98+ during employment so I don't think they'd want to start anyone much below that.
Depending on the company, sometimes
direct deposit to kick in and you'll be mailed a paper check until then.  It all depends on their bank and their procedure.  Some banks require a test run to validate the acct being deposited into.  Have you asked or inquired about it?
Depending on the company you might

One company just cut QA pay 30% and up, so that might not be a good idea, although, MT pay cuts will probably happen soon here too.

Depending on the account
ER reports have a really good potential to be a big money-maker. Lots of normals and a lot of repetitive statements you can put into your expander. Not to mention the fact that the work is usually far more interesting than acute or clinic work.

IMO, 7 cpl is a decent rate.

depending on what state you live in - sm
you could possibly be hired by another hospital IN THE STATE you are in and go to work at home, or you may be considered for a position at Diskriter that is hiring for a Florida hospital, but again, it depends on what state you live in. The Florida hospital can hire from about 7 other states, but if your state is not one of them, then you are out of luck.
Anywhere from 3 to 10 hours, depending on speed,
experience, ESLs, interruptions, platform, etc.
About 4-5 for me depending on how many ESLs slow me down on any given day.
x
I average 20-25 depending on the radiologists who are on.
I work in Radnet, use Shorthand and do all types of exams. I am paid by the report one rate but a much higher rate for IRs.

depending on your state, incorporation not necessary..sm

I did not incorporate....the state I live in allows you to be a sole proprietor, and I think 3 states allow this...where you are the employer and the employee.  I still submit 1099s on the privates to the IRS along with MQ's W2-W4 that they give us....and so I also do a schedule C for the sole proprietorship for the MTSO part of my business.  *S*

depending on length of the reports,
that is 2 less Americans employed in their own country and the taxes that would be collected for that income missing. How patriotic of Transcend. These companies only think of their own pockets, never the needs of the citizens of the country in which they live. Selfish, greedy, .......................
Not so, depending where you live...100,000 is not that much money.
x
Axolotl does have ESL, but depending on the account, you may not see any all day
As for your other questions, pay is always on time.  Paid twice monthly.  Pay periods 1 to 15, 16 to end of month.  Direct deposit available first thing in the morning.  Have been on OT for last 4 months.  Depending on what accounts you have and if you are Acute Care or Clinic, OT could go on for many more months as Axolotl  is rapidly expanding.  You don't have to stress about ELS because Editors are available by IM and depending on what your schedule is, you may only deal with 1 editor; almost have her as your personal sounding board.  They are always willing to answer questions, even give you a toll free number to call if you can't reach them by IM. The Editors and Management are always available to answer your questions.  Out of the 5 big national companies I have worked for, personally, I think they are great (I would say the best, but someone will accuse me of being a recruiter if I do -- I am just a new employee who loves it there).  You could certainly do worse.
they hire in all states; depending on what
state you are in, determines if you can be SE if that is what you are looking for.
I have heard anywhere from 3.5 to 5 cpl depending upon your experience.
When there is steady work, they are awesome. Sometimes, it is feast or famine.
Depending on mood it could be _____Head. (sm)

FMLA - Depending on your state

might pay.  I remember reading NJ just passed FMLA with up to 12 weeks pay (you'd have to be employee status though because it's taken from state disability funds you're paying into) and I think CA also provides for paid FMLA now.  My state doesn't pay for FMLA, but does temporary disability and maternity is covered under that.

depending on your experience, lots sm
of companies will take you part-time even if they SAY they only hire full-time. Most of the time part-time is 6000 lp pay period. I work for a company part-time right now and they really needed somebody M and F and every-other Saturday adn they don't hold me to the line count requirement. Just depends on the days you are willing to work sometimes.

It is nice to HAVE A LIFE!
You can be fired for any reason or no reason at all.
No one HAS to employ you. No one MUST keep you in employment.

As an IC, your unemployment isn't coming from the account of your contracts! It comes from YOUR tax payments!

Can IC even get unemployment?
:+
Unemployment

This is very interesting to know.  Maybe it is something to consider when given an option to work as an IC or an employee.  If you don't mind me asking, what state are you from?

Anyone Know Unemployment Law?
What is unemployment situation when US employer is defunct but employees (supposedly) get absorbed by off-shore company?
Unemployment
Ok - not quite sure why this has been such an issue. When I applied for unemployment, it was KS actions that determined that I was unemployed. Just as if I had any other kind of job - had I been laid off or terminated - I would have applied for unemployment - I don't know who wouldn't. So, I'm not quite sure why this has been so blown out of proportion. My counselor is the one who had to deal with KS - and they reported back to me what was going on - not the other way around. I had nothing to do with the determination of whether or not I was entitled to unemployment. That was determined by the laws in my state and I was told that my previous employer did not understand the law - I did not say that to just be saying it. A lot goes into the determination of unemployment and if you meet the criteria - then you begin to receive your benefits. In searching for MT jobs, there are not a tremendous amount of jobs that met the criteria of what I was working with KS. I immediately found work as an IC and received only the difference in the amount I earned and the amount of my benefit. I was never offered anything of employee status, so I just stayed with the IC job. I would ask - if you or your spouse lost your job - would you not apply for unemployment? Until you are in that position, I would ask that you not judge what others do. Perhaps someone out there has learned something from these posts, if nothing more than to file for unemployment if they lose their jobs. Certainly there are people losing jobs everyday - lest the job-seekers boards would not have new job postings everyday. I do not take offense at those who have called this fraud or illegal - I just realize that they are ignorant of the unemployment laws of their state. My next post for companies is what information they can and cannot give legally on previous employees if contacted for a reference. That will open some eyes, I am sure.
Unemployment
How long do you have to be at a place of employment before you can collect unemployment?
unemployment?
They go by last two years, you have to have enough months in a two year period - check your local office online

Unemployment
Most of the time as long as you are laid off or fired for reasons that do not entail stealing or being drunk on the job does not matter how long you were on the job. -- exception might under 30 days but am not sure.  However, what you are paid depends on the last 4 to 5  quarters (which is 12 to 18 months ago) prior to the quarter you are in.  If you get laid off after June 1st, you check is based on the first quarter of 2007 and possible all of 2006. Again like other posters have said, check out your state.  If you were not employed much in the the past year and half, your check will be quite small if anything at all.    Again go on line to your state page and it will direct you to the unemployment page.  You must be employee and not IC.
You should be able to get unemployment
The unemployment office will contact SPI to verify that you were, in fact, laid off and will ask for the reason why you were let go. You should qualify for unemployment until you find another company. Good luck!
I would take unemployment!
The same thing happened to me 4 years ago.  MQ took my job and I refused to go with them.  I then waited until I found a decent company to work for.  If you are used to working in-house, it might take you a while to find a company that is a good fit for you.  Good Luck!!
SPI and unemployment

Please excuse typos in first note.  Long day, even longer week!

Thanks.

And don't we pay our OWN unemployment? sm
I was under the impression WE pay into it, the company doesn't. Check your pay stub.
Unemployment
I wonder if they offer you another shift if you can get unemployment. I mean not many people can do a third shift. I know I can't - I'd fall asleep!
IC and unemployment
Depends on what state you live in. In Oregon, you are screwed...been there.
did you get unemployment??
