If they hire you to work on a specific account
Sounds too controlling for my taste.
Does alltype only hire in specific states?

I ask this because the ad states benefits in only certain states.  Does anyone know?

It's not rocket science - you need specific hours = hire an employee (sm)
You need a specific TAT but not specific hours = hire an IC. The IRS, each state's Workers' Comp laws and so forth make it VERY clear about what determines an IC and what determines an employee. If a company needs someone from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Mon-Fri, then that is a part-time employee, and in some states automatically a benefited employee.

For example, if you need a housekeeper or nanny for specific hours, that person becomes an employee. I vaguely remember a politician getting in trouble for this a few years back - not paying taxes, etc. for a nanny, by calling her an IC when in fact she was an employee.
lol - hair equal hire - need my abbreviation to type

Maybe it was just directed to the people on specific accounts or a specific software platform. nm

Me too. As soon as there is a little extra work they hire and hire and then noone has any. This
goes on all the time.  I get sick to death of it.  I think having 2 part time jobs is better so you have 2 jobs to count on.
I am part and I do work specific hours and
unless we have tornado warnings, lightning and such, I am usually at my desk working away. I really hate to see someone ask about trying to find a company to fit in with their schedules. Most companies do not try, never have and probably never will, to fit in with our schedules. I feel the person writing such is very naïve and has not been in the work force very long.
Also the Clinic work SOAP notes

But is it against the law to state ICs work specific hours or days?

Employees work a specific shift at TransTech?
Or do you just have to commit to a certain number of lines per day?  An an IC with my current company, I commit to X number of lines per day, and as long as I get them done within 24 hours, I've met my commitment.  Don't want shift work, i.e. 7-3, 3-11, 11-7.  There is absolutely no flexibility in that.  Noticed in post before this that Diskriter requires a shift commitment or a split shift.
I work at etrans. Would recommend them. Specific questions - email me... nm

Surgical Notes transcription service out of Texas...anyone work there?
Do they hire employes or IC? Platform? Thanks in advance ;0
Because people only want specific work types, easy dictators and certain hours...
That is why some people find a shortage of work, while others find an abundance. I cannot believe these last few threads and the vitriole of some of your responses. Any time a company is mentioned, any company, there are always a bunch of negative responses.

Maybe you all should check within yourselves to find out why you do not have enough work.

I happen to work for a company that is being negatively mentioned in these posts, and I am extremely happy. They may offshore, but they treat me very well, are communicative and I have never missed a paycheck. I also will do any work types, ESL, and will help out extra when asked. This is one of my first times on this board and I probably will not be back.
I used to work for a company who separated the MTs by work type daily. sm
regret ever leaving that company. we had a max of 4 MTs typing a large training hospital with clinics. i was assigned consults and discharges with consults being my priority. another MT had ops and admits, etc. it worked so much better. we were RARELY out of TAT and each of us were trained on other report types for backup in case someone need to take off. not to mention that we were easily able to learn the ESLs because we got them repeatively enough to learn them, set up templates, etc. much, much more productive for us as MTs, for the company as work flow, and i am sure for the dictator because they got someone who knew them and their dictations well enough to be accurate. i don't understand why large MTSOs cannot comprehend how much more beneficial that would be.
When you hire on and run out of work --

I hired on as a part-time MT for 2 different places.  After my training, the first few days went okay.  Then, I hit a snag.  The first place I signed onto had no work - or at least started sending the e-mails about flexing our hours due to light workload, blah, blah.

I replied with my resignation stating that I simply could not afford to wait around while they tried to find work - they knew when I agreed to work and I expected to have it  - I already had another part-time position and thank you very much.

Amazingly enough, I had a phone call and work within about 15 minutes and hadn' thad a problem since.

It's a gamble, true.  Could backfire, true.  I was, however, as prepared as I said I was and felt that if I tolerated even one day of the low/no work without letting them know how serious I was, it would just feed a lax attitude from the company toward keeping me supplied with work.

Anywho, just thought some of you may benefit from my experience.

I work M-F only. They can hire
PTers to do weekends like they've always done for years and years. I don't like this new trend of Su-Th/Tu-Sa. It's completely unnecessary when there are so many out there looking for PT weekend work.
JMO - I absolutely despise psych work! Give me Op Notes anytime - NOT psych. nm

Does Transtech hire to work on VR?
I am so SICK of VR I'm jumping ship.
I'd like to know too as we can seem to keep steady work, yet we are always trying to hire more.
If someone knows why they keep hiring more people, let us know. All I can think of is that the MTs they have keep quitting due to the lack of work, it's a vicious cycle. Somedays, they holler for help, you get in there and work hard, and then the next thing you know, we're out of work. I say STOP HIRING and let the MTs you have who want and need the work to do just that. I'm so sick of the feast or famine concept there. I'm job hunting. This stinks. They obviously advertise because they cant keep good help. That's my guess!!!
Which companies hire for VR work?

I would like to go back to doing VR work.  I think I am more productive with it.  Who is hiring for VR work, are they good companies, and do you feel more productive doing VR versus straight typing?   Thanks

Work here now, wouldn't hire on here now
I work for Spheris now and am doing okay, but I wouldn't hire on here now as I don't think I would get the deal I have now. Also with speech recognition I have to wonder if the workload will be enough for the employees we have now. Most of the good work goes to India and I would never work for another company again that sends work out of the country.

Insurance is crappy and expensive.

This is a marginal company to work for if you are already here but not something I would sign up for if I were looking for a job now.

it's not illegal to look for an IC that will work when THEY NEED THEM to. Why hire someone to work morning when you need nights for example.

Why hire someone to paint your house blue when you wanted orange?

Why hire a male stripper when you wanted a female stripper?

If you need someone for certain hours, you can request that person or IC to work those hours or not get work. Simple as 1-2-3.
Why would transcend hire? There is no work now.

I do not work for them, but I have done recruiting for companies of their type of work
It is A LOT different than regular medical transcription. The pay is a little less (unless you are proficient and fast), but the work is harder in that there are multiple people speaking and the nature of the medical advisory boards are quite detailed. I receive quite a few resumes of medical transcriptionists wanting to do this type of work, but when you test them, it is a whole different ballgame.

Good luck and let me know how you do on the test!

This was longer ago than that and they were able to hire New Yorkers. I don't work there, either.

Does WMX hire PT and/or offer clinic work? nm

I have seen many companies who want to hire OP people to work from home!

I wonder if they hire US MTs on new accounts and then get rid of them and send the work to India
after it goes through SR or something and the system learns from the US MTs.
Does MedScribe in Florida do clinic work and/or hire

Can anyone tell me if Administrative Assistants is a good company to work for and if they hire IC
or employees.
Are there any companies that hire emp status and let you work sort of a split?
I would like to work 6 hours during the day while kids are in school and then about 2 hours in the evening. Are there companies that will allow this? Do they have affordable benefits?
Try All Type. I do not work for them, but - sm
many of my friends do as a part time job from their hospital job. One of them has been with them for over two years, and in this business, that is quite a long time!! LOL
Work type
Discharge summaries, clinic notes, H&P, etc.  Specialties: Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Pulmonary, etc.
Yes, I am doing this same type of work (sm)

and have been doing so for a few years now.  I definitely agree with you that it can involve a lot of research at times; however, I thought he stated in his ad that there might be room for negotiation on his starting pay depending on how many years experience someone had.  I'm just interested in finding out how busy he keeps his transcriptionists.  Thanks for the feedback.  I appreciate it!

All Type - Anyone work for them currently?

All I can find are posts from 2005 and early 2006.  How are they to work for now, specifically do they have a flexible schedule?  Thanks!!

They pay by work type SM
with ops paying the highest.  I interviewed with them for a PT extra job and I thought they would be fine.  Recruiter is very nice, down to earth, and easy to talk to.
What type of work did they take you on for?
I'm going to be doing an account with high ESL, as I'm very comfortable with them. Were you clinic or acute care? I'm worrying now :( That's the reason I left my company was because they couldn't provide me with enough work for even part time.
When do you type, when there is no QA work to do? NM
NM
Did they tell you pay is by the work type with
discharges being 6 or 7 cpl. I believe the only way to make real money is typing ops and working 3rd shift because you get an extra penny for that
It's not that far off for this type of work...
I understood it to be $1.10/page which would equate to $10-15/hour if you type 60 wpm. Who's to say the page isn't double-spaced? I type 100 wpm (no expander) so that would be a pretty decent wage in this day :)
What type of work do they do?

Is this clinic or acute care work? Employee or IC? I'm interested in clinic work w/weekends free if available. I don't like the Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat schedules... Thanks for any info!

It is DEFINITELY worth it to get the work type you want. nm

Consistent work with All-Type NJ?
Anyone work for All-Type in New Jersey? Am considering them and wonder if their work flow is consistent or are there lots of dry spells? Any other information would ge helpful. Thx.
All Type - Work & Fairness

I can totally sympathize with you - if one is capable of doing the crap work that is who they give it to.  They are short-staffed in both MTs and QA, but I understand they are currently hiring .

As an aside, I would ask ,when applying for acute care, what the volume of ESL will be and what the work-types will be for the particular account for which you will be working.  I know, for a fact, you are not provided with the account information until you start training; by the way their Trainer (Carolyn) is very nice!!

Anyone currently work for All-Type? Have a question. sm
Their website says  need unlimited long distance service.  Then it says method of sending/receiving files is high speed internet.  Current employees,  which is correct?   How are you currently working - on line or over the phone lines?   Thanks.
What type of work and IC or employee? nm
nm
depends on work type
If you can do mostly ops you can fly and make a tremendous amt. If you do HP con and DS it slows you down and makes typing more lucrative.  VR makes money for the company by causing huge decrease in payroll costs but does not benefit the majority of MTs.
anyone work for Freedom Type?
TIA.   pros or cons??  Thinking about them.
Does anyone currently work for Silent Type?

I am interested in talking to someone who currently works for Silent Type and can let me know what the average number of pages they produce in a day.  I was told that it doesn't matter how many lines are on a page, you are paid for the entire page.  In some circumstances that would be pretty good, particularly if there were a lot of normals set up on the account.  I am aware of their practices, the fact that you have to go to NJ to train, etc., but I really would like to know what their transcriptionists are making versus hearing that their rates stink.  I have talked to a few people who say that they do not ever have turnover because their top transcriptionists make quite a bit of money, but I would like to speak to somebody who has been there done that.

Thanks!

I don't get any other work type after OPs. I call in to see if they
are backed up on other accounts that they need help with. I have 4 accounts and when they run out I call. I AM NOT CHERRYPICKING. I am doing what I am given!!
Does anyone work for Silent Type? (sm)
Do they have steady work, flexible schedules, benefits?  Any info will be appreciated.  TIA.
