How do you think the information about the production management team was being let go before THEY even knew it?

Where did you get your crystal ball? Think it needs

Well no one has a crystal ball
It's not inevitable that ALL clients and companies will go VR? Why would that be? It's not a cure-all, just another technology method.
Maybe you should send AA an email informing

Info inside

ESL% depends on account.  I have no personal knowledge of many of the accounts, but there are several in CA.  My experience has been that CA accounts tend to have a lot of ESL.  Some accounts have 25% or so, but they are very challenging and have some horrible American docs to make up for that low percentage.   No specific pay range.  I asked for what I wanted and surprisingly got it.   1200 lpd/12,000 lines/ppd.  Split shift okay,  no 12 hour window and really not any leeway in schedule.  Minimal QA score 98.5%.  You get corrected reports back daily, get a QA report once a month.

Platform is Lotus Notes.  You basically are just typing in Word, little demographics to enter.  Use Stedman's Spellcheck, SpeedType expander.

Since MTs work at home and are all over the place, no contact with each other.  QA nice/fair most of the time.  There have been some posts in the recent past about supervisor and they can be found going through the archives - will not repeat here.

They provide all equipment, rental of $300, which they hold $50 a pay period.  Money refunded with return of computer.  Need high-speed internet as you are on-line while working.   Excellent benefits, very reasonable insurance.

Sten-Tel contract, anyone with any info on their contracts? more inside
I received their contract and had my attorney look at it and some red flags came up.  One of the things that is in it is an indemnity clause stating that I an as an IC hold them harmless for ANY liability even if it's THEIR fault.  And there is no guarantee of any certain amount of work or amount of hours in it.  Please help and advise if you can.  I would like to hear from any previous Sten-Tel workers or present ones.  Thanks.

wonder what HER quality is like on VR? I have seen some of the VR coming back and it is awful. Mistakes corrected by more mistakes! You aren't going to get anything better because you have inexperienced folks doing VR because that is all they can do.

she is not thinking about the patients. AGain, I sure would like to see her quality. I bet it's one holy mess!
To make this crystal clear

11001 lines at my current rate .075 FOR STRAIGHT TYPING $825.07
11001 lines at .02 top tier bonus 220.02
ADD THEM TOGETHER= $1045.09

11001 lines at my new ISR rate of .046875 = $515.67
11001 lines at .02 top tier bonus $220.02
ADD THEM TOGETHER = $735.69

Net LOSS per WEEK if my production doesn't change= $309.40

Comprende?  Feel FREE to substitute your own figures for straight typing base rate AND for new ISR rate.  Why am I the only one talking about my base rate?  Does the cat have your anonymous tongues?

Yep, it's crystal clear now. I knew nothing of your company
before this post, and now I know that you're extremely unprofessional. Nice job.
You must be one of the favorites, huh?

I do VA C&Ps at Osi...they are my favorites
O
Probably do have favorites at KS.
In fact I may have been one.  I did work hard, but could not get my line count up.  Then all of a sudden I was being watched by management.  Everything I did was wrong all of a sudden after being there more than 1 year.  They nitpicked my reports to death to make sure I had very low QA score.  Now I had been doing the same work for 1 year.  Why all of a sudden was I being persecuted and judged as an unfit MT.  I am still wondering what happened.  I think because I was not producing my line count, they found others who could and replaced me.   I probably did about 800 to 900 lines a day, but still not enough.   well I am trying to just forget all about it.  No sense dwelling on something bad.
Yeah. Billy Crystal looked about 12 years old.

They definitely have their pets and favorites

and if there are any bonuses, good accounts, etc., the pets will get them all.  Same with raises.  Several people I know got raises, but not sure how they managed that other than being a pet.

Used to be decent bonuses on rare occasions, then Transcend came along and the whole company went downhill.  Not a good place to be anymore.

I agree. Some of my favorites are ESL
And even for those that are at first it only takes some time before you understand them. They're actually quite entertaining, for the most part!
They dropped the ball with me, too (sm)
I persisted a lot longer than I normally would because I really needed a job and had heard good things about them. I kept on them for weeks, and did eventually get hired. I was with them for quite a while but had to quit because I needed benefits. Still the best MT company I've run across. One account that doesn't run out of work. That makes a lot of difference.
You're not one of their favorites
I heard that if they don't like someone, that's one of the ways they'll weed you out.
The only thing I know about no favorites is this sm
The company I work for has no favorites. They treat each and every one of us badly, no work, badging, micromanaging, threats and whining.

It is all equal mistreatment!

And I know that is not what you meant, but it is the way it struck me.
Here is the comment that got the whole ball of wax
All the difficult jobs and bad dictators only make you stronger. You can't have perfect jobs everyday, so just get over it. Also, to MTs who refuse to do OP reports - you are only keeping yourself from being the best MT you can be. I've been an MT for sooooo long and I wouldn't even notice or care if someone was cherry picking. I certainly wouldn't waste my time checking. The jobs have to get done and I'm good enough to do them. If I have to leave some blanks, oh well, move on! You guys act like little kids wondering if someone got the bigger piece of candy. Good grief!

We don't need to say anything in OUR defense. This is unacceptable.
Play favorites.....
pay is good, but they still play favorites and some typists make off like bandits on cream of the crop dictators while the rest of you get the scum.
Can you please be more specific regarding "play favorites?"
Can you please be more specific regarding "play favorites?" I used to work there and never had a problem with QA in general; maybe it depends on the account you are assigned to. Although, I do doubt the competency of management there and agree with the other post that you pratically have to "work like a horse" to make any money.
lol, 2, 6, and 9 are my favorites.:) Who is Johnny Depp?

I got whacked out of the ball park!
After applying for many jobs, and not getting one, I decided to go ahead and apply at Focus. I took their test and didn't pass. The recruiter said I passed the first 2 parts but did not pass the transcription portion. I was really surprised since I have been a medical Transcriptionist for almost 11 years, have specialized in hem/onc for the past 7-1/2 years. Needless to say, this has really made me depressed.

Actually that was clinton who started that ball a rolling.

That's in the "average" ballpark. Some companies are trying to low ball at 3 cpl and less.
Definitely do not take less than that, as sometimes, you end up having to retype a lot of the text and it really is not worth it when your paid 3 cpl. I would never accept less than 4 cpl. Can I ask who offered you a job, maybe I can give you some insight.
Yep. This MT feels like a ping pong ball...
Meanwhile, because the last 6 months has not been the best with the MTSOs, owe lots of bills, and looking to change jobs for about the 3rd time. Actually very tired of being promised and then not having a full paycheck. What am I to tell the bill collectors today? I am going to apply to another job, or take on another, because my job is always running out of work? Talk about a poor credit reference. Uggg. Signed the ping pong MT.
Zylo gives the good stuff to their favorites. New employees
get the leftover junk. Worked for them for 6 months recently, loved it at first except I wasn't getting enough work. 1000 lines one day, 200 the next, 75 the next. Kept asking for more work but never got it. Fortunately I didn't quit my job with Medquist and still had that for backup. Finally left last November.
JLGers - how flexible are they with hours, i.e. kids ball games, etc. (nm)
.
Why would anyone be so adamant about holding on to such a crud-ball, crap-paying, loser of a job lik
If this is what it takes to get us off our butts and get a respectable job that pays more than a 16-year-old makes babysitting, so be it. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise.

I for one am outta here. Good luck!

As I mentioned before, the best thing to do would be to send a resume directly to the medical records director. If they are in need of a transcriptionist, chances are they are going to walk that resume right down to HR and have them get in touch with you for an interview. And it also lets the MR Director know that "hey, there are people in the area, and we don't have to outsource overseas or out of the hospital."

I can't say it enough - I wish I had lived in St. Louis because I would have taken the job in a heartbeat. Some people did work at home and others worked on site.

I love the fact that there is always work (except on a few occasions around holidays, etc). I love that I can generally get an answer to a question when I ask it. I love that my pay is always on time (as the previous person said). I love that they do not outsource to India. I agree, there have been some changes, but I really love MDI.

There are some minuses too, but I have worked for a few other nationals after working at a hospital, and really, MDI is the best I have seen.

I was in a simlar situation once.  I didn't want to burn my bridges, just in case the other job didn't work out so I told them I could not commit to full time as some personal issues came up but that I would be able to help them out 1 day a week.  They allowed me to do this, and it ended up that I went full time with them later, as I actually made more money in the long run... better dicators, etc...

Thanks for all the information!  Did you feel that you were able to get yourself on some sort of 'schedule'?  I just left somewhere because I had no idea from day to day when I would get work or how much and ended up waiting around all day long sometimes and either getting very little to nothing or too much at once for the TAT.  Did it seem pretty manageable?  (I would also rather work during the daytime hours...)  Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for your help!

I worked for them recently (within a year). They had software changes earlier to that, so if you see negatives about technology problems, it was before that. Evidently they did have lots of problems back before they were on their current system. Still some occasional bugs.

IC only. Good accounts. Put you on one account, and you stay on that account. If you have a similar experience to mine, you won't run out of work on your account.

Software getting dated. Not written by/for MTs or with requests for MT input. Hence, you have the programmer(s) doing really strange Keystrokes that are not productivity-friendly. They fix one thing and break three others. Need to fire the programmers and invest a bit more in getting decent programmers.

Office staff--THE best, hands down. QA will leave you alone unless there's a problem. You don't get QA scores sent to you or nitpicking. You either have good quality or they'll be contacting you about it.

Hours--THE best, once again. You have a quota to get in every week, and you give them a weekend day. Other than that, you're free to get that time in when you can.
OTI is also the company in my experience that's come closest to actually treating ICs as ICs.

I have worked for many nationals, and OTI remains my best overall experience. I had to leave because of needing benefits. That's the only reason I left. I would recommend them to anybody who's got at least five years of acute care experience in the Basic 4.

SoftScript pays up to 10.5 cents a line with full benefits.

JLG, I believe, pays up to 9.5 with benefits (or at least they used to).

Be sure and watch the job boards for hospitals hiring for at home workers.  Good pay and full benefits at a great price.  Don't settle without checking all options and best of luck to you.

Their ad on MTJobs says 7 to 9 cents a line.

I used to work for them.  Is this transcription or editing? Is the patient name not there, or are you having problems getting the template?  Is there a button with three dots near the patient info on the screen?  If the patient name is not there you need to listen first and then input the first and last name on the screen.  It is hard to know exactly where you are.  Hope this could help some.

Pay rate - range is 0.7-0.9 depending on a lot of factors (for clinic). Includes spaces.

Flexible - for clinic and ortho - YES!!!!

Weekends - I do my Friday work on Saturday but not sure if required.

Word - some accounts yes, some no. I type in Scribe, which is Word-based and very easy.

In fact, flexible has hurt me today. I have not started yet. Queen of the game shows today!
No. Inside is what you said in your OP.
I just completed an interview process with JLG. The owner presents herself as an MT who understands our situations

You are wacked and definitely not someone that any co would want

Then I guess Scribes/Nightingale lowering their rates (without notice) from $1.05/minute to $.80 or $.85/minute sucks even worse than I thought.
Please see inside.

This is my first time doing IC work.  I imagine it will eat up some of my profit, but I am just having my other job hold out a little more.

You only do as much as you want.  She will send an e-mail out to the P.R.N. pool of transcriptionists stating, I have 60 minutes of Dr. Mickey Mouse available.  His speciality is ENT.  It is due back by noon tomorrow (Pacific standard time).  Does anyone want all or part of this?  Then (based on whoever responds first) she will assign the work.  Let's say you want 30 minutes of it--you would e-mail her and state, May I have 30 minutes of Dr. Mickey Mouse's work?  If you're the first to ask, she will assign it to you.

You don't have to take work...only e-mail her when you want it.  There is not that much work.  She e-mails maybe 1 to 3 times a day.  So the work volume is pretty minimal, but it is something to fill in slow periods with another job.

Hope this has been helpful.

I read some of the MT Stars archives entries that gave the impression they were now an American company.

After reading more, you may be right.  I think they may be foreign-based.  They acquired an American-based MT company several years ago and set up their corporate office in Nashville, TN but sounds like they are still pretty much an overseas company.  Kind of confusing.  Anyway, check out the web site for more info.
