I'm going for an associate's in health information management, and a good portion of the program is for coding. I can also go for my bachelor's afterward in health service administration, so even if coding goes the way of transcription at some point, I have options that can't be outsourced. I am working full-time, but my kids are in elementary and middle school and I'm not doing this as a single parent, so there are definitely some challenges for you. That said, I think many people have challenges doing this sort of thing - mine is that it has been 16 years since I was in college and there are a lot more technical things to learn. I had kicked myself for years for not finishing college when I had the chance the first time, so whatever you decide, try to make sure you will not regret it - whether that is continuing school or not - and only you can decide that. Sorry but I wanted a job, but not with them anymore. I got a better offer and that got right back to
me. Truly, it makes no sense to say how bad they need MTs when they never bothered to contact the ones who sent back their paperwork. So, I still say they really do not need people as bad as they say. No biggie. I moved on.
Not true anymore. That changed this past week when they decided that to go back to having PT MT'
I talked to my Coordinator who told me that during their meetings this past week at the office, it was decided that some PT positions were necessary.

The decision for FT only was officially made in September but they have decided to go back to having some PT MT's fo fill the needs of some accounts. There will be definite standards to be met, including must have one weekend shift and must do a minimum of 2500 lines a week, but there will be some PT MT's hired when needed. She did say that the number of positions would be limited, trying to fill accounts with FT MT's first.

This came directly from one of the Coordinators who was in the meetings last week.


Out of work 15 times Friday
Has happened all week long.  Think I got a total of 4 hours yesterday.  My STM said we were down 750 dictation minutes for some reason this week.  She had no idea why.  I have 8 different accounts I pull from. 
Do you mean in addition to your reg Friday work? When do they give it to you?

Is this really fair?  You mgmt people should be doling out some of your paychecks to us MT's who have NO WORK and LOW PAYCHECKS.

my phone started ringing off the hook for new local accounts, so I had to leave them, but if that hadn't happened, I would have stayed.  Very nice, very easy to deal with, always pay on time every week, great accounts.

No I don't know - but that is the big reason why I don't take work from them anymore -
They would just send a check in the mail and nothing else - I wanted a breakdown, I got nothing.  What the heck???

I remember that well -- SUDDEN HURRY to get paperwork turned in to new company (same paperwork as a new-hire wound fill out).  Then the new payroll company did a horrible job of putting the data in, and made horendous mistakes in our personal info, etc.  I remember that HURRY very well !


No warning whatsoever to the MT's; just unbelievable mistakes made by new payroll company, and am sure it was due to the BIG RUSH put on them.

I've been with Focus almost 2 years and the pay periods have always ended every other Friday during these 2 years.

I cannot, however, use Iscriptor, so that one is out.  I don't have enough memory for Iscriptor, so I am told.  I'm running windows XP.  I was told by another company that I do not have enough memory to run Iscriptor.  Thanks bunches for your replies!!!!! 


how about those e-mails..
that say change is always difficult and getting back on track.   The e-mail I got transferring me to a lower-paid account said that.  I had to get back on track too - had to go. 
E-mails ignored
Never get a reply to e-mails. I've e-mailed a particular person about the same topic on 3 different occasions and have yet to get any kind of response. Not very professional IMO.

Thinking I should resend it with a copy to Transcend stating I've yet to get a response from anyone at MDI and maybe they can answer the question.

I am not really sure. Your work is due back the next day. As for sm

weekends and holidays, it is clinic work, and I do not think any of the accounts work on the weekends, but I could be wrong.  The work you get on Friday is due back on Monday morning.  You might submit your resume anyway.  The lead MT handles the hiring, and she is great.  Perhaps you could work something out.  I only work part-time, and I cannot really speak for the company, but feel free to email me if you have any other questions, and I will help if I can.

I have telling me to take the next couple of days off because there is no work.   That place is worse than I thought if you always have work.   Sounds like management is totally incompetent. 
They finally did pay me Friday
Well I finally did get all my pay, minus the western union fees. But what it took me to get it was almost not worth it.
Over 500 e-mails in just over 2 months. How do you have
time to work?   There have been multiple, multiple posts about the poor communication from Precyse.  How questions are asked but never answered.  I wouldn't want to work for a company that sent that many e-mails.   There should be no reason to send that many e-mails, even if they are bulk e-mails.

How timely...I received that type of e-mail today....Wonder if we're at the same place................But yes, it's so inappropriate and offensive, particularly since I don't swing the way of the e-mail.  Even if I agreed, I would still feel it's inappropriate.

I wish that people who get into this profession would understand that hospitals operate 24/7/365. My daughter is a registered nurse and does not demand a m-F schedule and YES she does have children. You got into this profession because of having kids at home and wanting to be a stay at home mommy. Well, 30 years of experience under my belt and most of the companies that I have spoken with allow me to work the hours that I want to work because of the fact that in general, I put in 12 hour days and even work weekends and dont take a day off unless I need to, due to illness or whatever and also, due to the fact that if I do have an emergency, I let someone know in advance and just not refuse to work

I received several e-mails sm
privately stating some of the same things the others had said. These e-mails are all from experienced MTs with 20+ years experience. I would agree with your post IF the e-mail I had gotten from the recruiter hadn't been worded so strangely. She was very very nice but it was obvious this was a problem with her higher up and she did not agree with it. Its ok but it does aggravate me that they are taking up so many MTs time with their testing and not being up front. I would rather they say they are slow than make up something. I can't say as I would feel comfortable working for a company that would lie up front. I am glad you have a great experience there though. Any job in this economy is a blessing! BTW from the time these posts were done yesterday until this morning, I have had a job offer I think I am going to take. Thanks for your post.

today what with every body biting each other's heads off and getting all *snarky* over things that don't really matter. Get a grip you all, have a cold one, and mellow out! geez. some of Y'all are just LOOKIN' for an argument and if you can't get one going, you'll start one! sick *o this stuff. I think most of the people in this thread need a good long ol* fashioned *time out* in the corner!
