Excuse me, but yes she did. The OP's very last line posted by anony asks "do they pay spaces?&

In Reply to: OP did not ASK if paid spaces, SAID didnt. Re your - posts today, anon, you need more sleep, or coffee.

Someone probably needs more coffee this morning but it isn't me. All I did was make a simple comment and this is what I get. It's no wonder a lot of us don't post more often as we get flamed for everything we say.

Spaces are not taken into account with gross lines....a line is a line...sm

if there seven words on a line.

or two

one

or a full line of typing...all of the companies that I have worked for define a gross line as 1 inch margins, 12 pt courier font....does not matter what we type in margins or font.....we convert all reports to the 1 inch margins and courier 12 font and then count the lines.  not the blank spaces between the lines.

Hope this helps.

I see they pay on a VBC line. Isn't that a huge paycut from a 65-char. line with spaces? nm

Person below posted that she gets spaces and headers/footers.

In 2005, it was posted you had to buy their software and they didn't pay for spaces. Haven't s

10 spaces per line
that's the average using 1 space after a period which most places already do.

An average line has 10 words.

so if you are being paid VBC, make sure you are being paid on a 55 char line or less.

Can I vent anony about a company I am fed up with?
I am tired of no work, tech probs, account switching, and rude managers.  Low pay is a factor also.  Really want a better paying job.  Anyone know of a company willing to pay a 10-year MT more than 8 cpl?  TIA
37-character line without spaces much better...SM

Hi!  I just checked an OP note I did yesterday.  Characters with spaces was 5935.  I get paid on a 65-character line with spaces, so that came out to 91.3 lines.

Characters without spaces was 4999.  So, if you divide that by 37, you get 135.1 lines.

In the first scenario, I would get paid $8.22.

In the second scenario, I would get paid $12.16. (If both pay the same per line...9 cents in this example).

So, you would definitely do better to accept the 37-character line withOUT spaces! :)

Spaces are about 27% of a 65 char line

55 char line with spaces
Ok guys how does a 55 char line WITH spaces = to a 65 char line.  I was offered 8 for 55 char line with spaces and counts underlines, bolds, hard returns etc.
55 char line with spaces
Is 8cpl for a 55 char line with spaces and double counts for bold, underline, etc a good rate.  Sorry, but i am used to getting paid for a 65 character line.  What does this equal out to?  Does anyone know how to figure it out.  TIA!!
Of course they pay for spaces and I believe the line counts to be appropriate sm

I said appropriate without making a statement about accuracy.  My body knows when I have made my 1100 minimum.  I can do that in about half to two-thirds of a shift.  I can tell when I am at my usual 1600 to 1700 lines for a day too.

I'll agree...base rate is not stellar, but then again I never make that...I make more.  I am routinely on the third line rate incentive tier, which puts me up above the last line rate I was paid.  There is a QA bonus and I have gotten that which is per line bonus back to line one.  It is easy for high-caliber MTs to make very good money.

With the better insurance rates they have come up with, all those bonuses and the wonderful people...well I have found my heaven on earth.

Is their line 65 chars with spaces, etc.?
What platform are you using? (Do they have more than one?) Were you able to get a rate equivalent to what MDI paid you?
That last line you posted....
THOSE PEOPLE WHO BRAG CAN'T TYPE AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR WORK!!!

Keep telling yourself that, hun.

That one single line you posted made me realize you're one of those who can't cut it in VR and therefore presume anyone who does well at it must be lying or simply uploading inferior work. Is it that difficult to grasp that perhaps some people just have an ability that you lack, or does it make you personally feel better about your lack of ability in an area to call others liars or slackers? Just because you cannot conquer it does not mean no one can.

There's always one of you around with not much better to do than TRY to convince yourself we're liars for doing well at VR.

Good luck with the Q.

8.5 cents per 70 char/line with spaces
Does anyone get paid like this?  Is this good?
it sounds like a 55-character line without spaces

Yes they do; 65-character line, spaces included NM

Is a 55-char line without spaces good?

Does anyone know how a 55-character line WITHOUT spaces would compare to a 65-character line WITH spaces?  Which one is better?

Difference in line counts with/without spaces

I'm looking at swtiching companies but I'm tryint to figure out approximately what the pay would be like.  If I take the new job I would start at $ 0.005 less than what I currentently am paid but I would be paid for spaces and the job I curerntly have does not pay for spaces.   Any imput is appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, adjusted line rate when they took the spaces away
nm
The average 65-char line has more than 10 spaces.
Your math is flawed.

Forget it and just go away. Everybody is always so snotty and snippy here. I for one am tired of it and will never be back.
Yeah, so? I am equal opportunity anony poster.

Not paying for spaces can be okay if the characters per line is shorter.
55 characters without spaces is roughly equivalent to 65 with spaces.
Not true. They pay based on a 65-char line with spaces.
nm
PS - pay based on 65-char line, SPACES INCLUDED. SM
Also paid for weekend work, 2nd and 3rd shift differential. Bonus plan based on production.
My line rate was better than any I've seen posted
before.  I haven't been there long enough to get a raise, though I think someone asked this question last week and the answer was you do get raises.
it's been posted in the past that line counts are
pretty much set differently from one MTSO to another.

Problem is, clients cannot prove their counting systems no more than we can.

Regulation is in the future, unfortunately, that might hurt us.
no need to "do" anything. you just hire on as an IC...

or change status with current employer to IC.  At the end of the year instead of a W2 you will receive a 1099.  You give that to your CPA (make sure he knows about at-home businesses......very important), and keep track of all your expenses.  Things that you never would have imagine are deductible....for instance, 1/10th of my square footage is my office, so I am allowed to write off 1/10th of mortgage payment (however, there are depreciation factors that go along with this), gas bill, electric bill, water bill, high speed internet, up to $6,000 per year in meals and entertainment for all those luncheons you have with prospective new clients :).  There are too numerous to name here, but I think it is a win-win.

they do not pay for spaces, line count not verified, check archives!! nm

TransHealth pays for spaces & headers on a 65 character line. sm
I recommend them highly.  Stable company, good platform, great benefits.  I'm happy there.

The norm in the 80s was 4 cents per Gross Line, not 65 char with spaces. nm

If Ichart deducts 8% from ExText line counts, you are actually not getting paid for spaces

It is the equivalent of a 70.2 character line with spaces, 65  characters without spaces.

I emailed and asked. Said it was 65-character line with spaces or black and white.

This is not true. I have been there a month and get a good line rate and paid for spaces. ??? nm

usually it's just an uproductive CYA knee jerk "do something" reaction (SM)
some supervisors like to lash the troops in turn when they get negative feedback ... others issue these blanket condemnations (suggesting their team is made up of lazy, unprofessional, dullards) to, in turn, show THEIR supervisor that they 'DID SOMETHING' ...

I wish they realized just how demoralizing these missives are ... and how often they reflect very bad new employee training and QA; lousy ongoing communication wrt to client feedback as well as changes in account specifics ... and let's not talk about obviously outdated, poorly written and/or incomplete and/or confusing and/or contradictory account specifics

oh, and then there's the cowardice of sending group memo to everyone rather than actually -- actually -- discussing the problem(s) with the offending MTs (who likely had no idea their work quality was unacceptable (or they would have fixed it).

I know supervisors are hideously overtaxed with far too many MT's and accounts to oversee ... but yes, I've worked under nothing but bad news supervisors and it sucks.
Someone asks about them every so often and there are
posts in the archives about them.  There has been a problem in the past with them paying on-time.   I was offered a position with them but they didn't pay squat.   I received a postcard from them last week about openings.
Someone asks about this company about every other day, little to
no info.
Look in the archives. Seems someone asks
this question about once a month.
Our company asks if at all possible
we just work a couple of hours, which for me is not a big deal except for Christmas, when I go out of town.
If the EMR asks questions, and all they have to
and since VR is already in the picture, you'd think they'd just come up with an EMR that they just say 'yes' or 'no' into. Unless they have that already.

Of course, if that comes about, then they'll want US to edit it, for .000005 cpl.
Read the archives. Someone asks about them
almost daily.
I have a standard response to that when someone asks me why they have to do that. sm
I work for another MTSO and have worked for 2 others in the past; all have required paperwork faxed out. It is quicker and more reliable than snail mail.

My response is --- if you are complaining this early in your employment, you will probably find something to complain about daily. There are alternatives to faxing, and the main 2 are: You can mail the paperwork back to me; however, I will only hold the job for 24 hours OR you can drive here and hand it to me, which is definitely more expensive than faxing AND you have to deal with traffic in LA.

A fax machine costs $25 now. An all-in-one printer is not much more and you can print pictures on one too!
