For decent private individual policies, it is very expensive for a family.

In Reply to: Why not just get a private policy? Unless you have - me

Unless, you have a $5000-7500 deductible and a 50% copay on prescriptions which is bad for us because my son takes medication that costs $160 a month.  If we went with a policy equal to what my job provides, the premium is over $1000 a month. With my job, I am paying about $400 a month for family coverage.

I've had private individual policies and you pay a fortunate for bad coverage.
You either get stuck with an awful deductible or a policy which limits coverage. So, that is not always a good option. If you want a decent cheap premium, you get what you pay for.
I have BCBS individual policies for myself and
my last home-living son. When all my children were still at home, they had individual policies that they could take with them.

It was cheaper for me to do buy each of us an individual policy and know that I can keep us insured 100% of the time regardless of whether I changed jobs or not.

The plan I chose for ours has a $5000 major medical deductible but we have not ever had to use hospitalization and I can pay out $5000 one way or another. Office visits are covered 100%. That was my main concern as I wanted the routine items covered. I can handle facing the other big ticket items. I also wanted the lowest premium possible. It was a great bargain for us.

Is that individual or family and what is the company?
nm
Are you looking for individual or family coverage?

I can get a private policy for a family
of 4 for about $400 and that is with very good coverage.   We have no pre-existing conditions though and no chronic medications.
Can anyone recommend a co. that has decent family insurance.
I cannot afford to stay working for the company I am presently with. Low to no work and the family insurance rates are over $700 a month. I have over 13 years of experience and I am hoping there is a company out there that rewards that with decent benefits.
WOULD LIKE TO FIND A COMPANY THAT HAS DECENT FAMILY INS. BENEFITS AND PTO
I have been working in-house at a hospital and would like to go home to work, but I am having a hard time finding a company out there that offers decent insurance benefits and PTO.. Any ideas are appreciated..
Are there ANY companies out there that actually offer decent family medical coverage??
Some are just downright ridiculous amounts. Right now, I am with a company that offers decent single coverage but the family is like $750 a month and I cannot just work for insurance. There has to be something left over to like....eat on... or pay bills. Any suggestions out there. I do have over 13 years of experience.
I think she is referring to company policies not the policies on this board. sm

When I find decent people who know the value of decent wages, I will!

Thanks. Can you make any decent pay with them and are the accounts decent. What is your feeling
that. Thank you.
QA policies

Hi All,

I am working with a company that is in the formation stages and was trying to get input so we could put together a very competitive package for MTs.  I know average line rates, etc. but wanted input on experiences anyone has had with regards to QA policies - do companies penalize for bad quality and, if so, how much?  Same with turnaround time.  The more details you can provide, the better.

Thanks for any feedback!

What policies are those??

New OSI policies

Now in order to be paid for holidays you have to have at least 98% QA score for the previous 6 months.  I understand how quality counts but if you are counted off for any moronic thing which is usually the case because there is no consistency whatsoever with OSi QA dept. you will not be paid for holidays within 6 month period. You must also meet minimum line requirements and it doesn't matter if there is no work, low work or PTO.  I cannot believe that if there is no work prior to a holiday you won't be paid for the holiday.  Just another way to rip off the MTs who are the bread to the butter of this company. Fortunately I have never had a QA problem but I have run out of work on more than one account.  This is one more reason I have decided to give OSI a big kick in the behind, BYE BYE OSI.  GOOD GRIEF!

Take a look at board policies. nm

Company policies
usually state that no political affiliation be displayed in the work place, and I believe that sending political emails is definitely against procedures and protocol of any company.  Employees can get fired for promoting personal beliefs in the workplace, but managers and owners can preach religion and push their political beliefs.  Double standards ad infinitum.
Transtech does not have any policies like this
nm
TTS does not change policies, procedures and
don't drop bomb shells constantly like MQ. I work for both and TTS is a reliable MTSO to work for, little hassel and no stress, not to mention actually having a primary to work on. I would rather make 9 cpl and have job security and comfort with TTS than all the stress of MQ! Take the job, you will love it!
The ad says they treat MTs like family ... what a family that must be! LOL nm

There are board posting policies at the top of the page

Whoa! That's one of the strangest policies I've seen
They make you list 3 places you tried to look up a term? That's just plain nuts. I wonder what their turnover rate is.

Thanks for the info.
I have a question regarding pre-existing and insurance policies if anyone can help me. sm
I haven't had insurance in a long time but my DH is coming up to qualify for insurance in July. It is BC/BS and is $305/mo for he and I with $2000 deductible. I have been having a lot of medical issues lately. I see on the paperwork it asks for proof of insurance for the last 18 months. I don't have any. Anybody know what they will do about pre-existing? I could go to a doc where nothing is documented but at this point I am not sure if it is better for me to search my own policy or get on his given my medical situations. I don't know how the pre-existing things work.
it is NO longer MDI people, it is Transcend policies
The rules change, the people change either from new policies or new staff.

Didn't you read where they send out threats of termination if line count not met YET YET, the MTs don't have the work to GET the line count and they know it, were told that.
VERY expensive
I think it was almost $300/mo for single and much more for kids/family. No dental.

Have you looked to see if your state offers some kind of subsidized health plan for kids? There's one in my state and the income guidelines are quite generous and it was very easy to sign up for - downloaded the forms off the internet and sent them in. I would suggest you do a little research in that direction.

MQ has good benefits, but good luck to a newbie getting the 150 lph on those teaching hospital accounts that you'll need to maintain your benefits.
That is really expensive
for insurance. I could never afford that.
You have to buy a lot of very expensive
equipment - a $300 router, a special modem, and their special telephony equipment. They only do overflow work, accounts not too bad, but there are problems there.
Self-pay for me is less expensive
I work for Keystrokes but unfortuantely their group insurance is more for me than what I pay on my own. I am told it is because of the overall health status of the group involved. If you are healthy, have no preexisting medical conditions, take no medications, and do not smoke you will find that a private plan is more reasonable than a group plan where the majority enrolled are over weight, have chronic illnesses and take prescription medications. Another good reason to stay in shape girls. :)
Very expensive
COBRA is normally offered when your personal or job insurance is no longer active (ex: you quit your job, you were let go). The rates are generally high, there is a cost for others added on to your insurance, and I believe it is only good for 18 months. You may want to check with other medical insurance companies and compare pricing. If there are any pre-exisiting conditions, you will want to find out about the waiting period for that (normally 6 months) as long as you have been covered within the last 6 months. Hope this helps.
insurance 2 expensive?

Recently I was contacted by an agent of the company I work for and was told that basically they didn't know how much longer they could cover me on their insurance plan that I have been on for years.  I am having a bit of a problem changing insurance companies right now because of a chronic illness. I gather that their portion is too expensive although I have no confirmation of that.  Can they actually drop me off of their insurance for this reason?  I suppose they could always terminate me or push me out, giving no reason, their right, but I already know why.  Is this illegal or does it just fall under being a poorly run company?

I think their insurance is very very very expensive. nm
,
TransTech is not less expensive than that...sm

my plan costs what you are paying now with the surcharge, but they have added a high deductible plan that is about 60% of the cost of a regular health plan.

I am getting a little desparate paying these premiums, too.  I hope you find something better.

Unfortunately, no. The last job I had the COBRA was too expensive, so I did
not get it, and had about a 4-month lapse.
I guess India got too expensive.
Glad I quit.
Can someone please tell me how expensive Transtech insurance is.....sm
for self only?  low deductibles.
I thought they were looking for less expensive plans
xx
Yes!! I don't like the new insurance, more expensive and higher co-pay. nm
nm
Psychiatric help is also expensive, but I think you should check into it anyway. nm

he's not looking for individual MTs
He's looking for a group that collectively can handle 5000/day.
You want to PURCHASE your own platform? Platforms are very expensive so
p
There's 49 other states who are tired of hearing how expensive CA is. nm,

You sound like the "gambling is expensive" nutcase. nm
She's right above -- just go away.
I have the individual coverage
and it's about $17 per week.  United Healthcare, good plan.  250 deductable.  I wish I could help you more but I know my regular doctor is on the plan so I am quite happy with the coverage.  Hope that helps.
It's not so much the school, it's the individual.

CUT-THROAT INDIVIDUAL
I know who you are too, and what goes around comes around!
What a pathetic individual

I know what you're alluding to, even though you are too much of a coward to say it outright.  If you can't say anything nice, or heaven forbid be supportive of this individual, then just keep it to yourself.

I, too, work for OSi and have for a few years.  It's bad enough that you come on here and trash the company, now you're making personal attacks?!  Go crawl back into your hole!

Oh yes they can! It depends on the individual sm
QA person, of course. There certainly are some with very strange ideas on the interpretation of transcribed work (they don't take time to read the entire report to get the proper context) and some with vendettas. There are rotten apples everywhere.
Last time I talked with them, nothing had changed, insurance still way too expensive. nm
.
I got one too. I turned them DOWN for a job, insurance too expensive. Don't worry, just a form
and I have well over 16 years in this bizz.

To Keystrokes employees: Has anyone heard anything about when a new, less expensive insurance (sm)
is starting?  I was told by a valid source it was to be February 1 but it apparently didn't happen then.  Has anyone else heard a different date?  TIA.
bad insurance, expensive & lousy line count
When Transform (in Wyo) started they used MDintouch which was great but with Vscript I spent more time waiting for new reports to open (because it would have to open Word EVERY SINGLE TIME instead of Word just staying open, and for them to finish sending. long reports were OK & you could make SOME lines/$$ but after 6 years I made less & less AND LESS until I quit because I would OWE on payday - yes, I was paying over $900 for really lousy insurance for hubby & I. I'm no slouch - being doing it for about 25 yr when I quit & typed about 110 wpm. So take no time to pound out a report but tooooo much time wasted waiting on things to grind up & download. HAS to be better offers...
How can you know for a fact how much another individual is capable of doing? sm

I have tried to ignore your constant negativity, and I do feel sorry for you because you must have an unhappy life to want to always rain on everyone else, but enough is enough.

I average 300-350 lines an hour, at 11 cpl that equals over $33/hour.   I have been an MT for over 30 years now, and have been blessed with a natural ability for speed and spelling, and, although there are new things to learn every day, I do not have to spend the majority of my work day looking up things.

I am not trying to be adversarial, and it makes no difference to me what you believe.  I cannot believe I even got sucked this far into defending myself against some stranger.   I wish you well, and hope you have a job that you enjoy as much as I do mine.

Merry Christmas :)
