Love the platform, loved the account, no work at all in over a week and hardly any work before that since Thanksgiving.  I e-mailedEDITED and her exact words were we will continue to hire additional MTS. when I told her I was leaving because there was a lack of communication about available work and the overstaffing issue.  She also stated that there were only 3 MTs that were complaining on this site about lack of work and that she knew who they were, which I find hard to believe.  So, my suggestion is move on especially since she stated the above about continuing to hire more people.

I did all the hiring, training, scheduling, and QA by myself for a small company.  When I started, there were strict rules regarding the number of lines per day that must be done.   I would get emails from people saying they were desperate to work, were losing everything, ready to start today, etc.  I'd send out a couple of files for them to type and some would say How about I do these another day or I'd get them back (if at all) a week later.  Several claimed to be CMTs.  We started people at a lower rate until they came off 100% QA and once they made their lines, they got a raise.  The problem is that these were very easy accounts, it just doesn't get any easier.  I had people who claimed to have 10 years of experience, yet their work was no better than a new grad (actually I had new grads who did better).  What few remained never ever got their line requirements, some only doing less than 200 lines per day.  The company decided with the shortage of people, to just let them go so at least something was getting done, and hire more.  Ok, hired more.  Guess what happened?  During the low work periods we had too many people and the people who did their jobs had to try and get enough work.


Today was the last straw for me.  We had one lady who was always disappearing for a few days.  She would claim everything, terminally ill relatives, storms, phone issues, you name it.  This time after her vacation, she disappeared for 9 days.  No word, nothing.  She was another one who only did 200 or less lines per day.   I hired a replacement.  She finally emails and said she didn't have the phone number of the company (guess her email was broke too) but she's ready to work again.  I let her know we hired a replacement already.  She calls the office clerk whining about family emergencies and gets her job back.  Meanwhile, we have new people hired and mark my words, the work will run out again, punishing the good people. 


I don't get it. I hire people, new grads, who are supposedly thrilled for the chance and then they quit because they didn't know it would take 4 hours a day to work part time.  Or they don't show up at all.  I try to explain to people this is a job, just like any job you get in your car and drive to.  Out of 25-30 people, I might get 1-2 good ones.


I was raised you work for what you want, you don't expect it to get handed to you.  Sure I could stop working, get on public assistance, and probably my health would improve...it's gone steadily downhill due to the long hours and 11 years without a vacation, 5 without two days in a row off.  But what would I be teaching my children?  One of my sons is still in school but got a job in fast food.  He is such a hard worker, he's already gotten a raise and he's only been there 3 weeks.  He is the one they ask to fill in when others don't show up, he is the one who stays over to help the manager of a night because nobody would stay.   Another son is studying in a foreign country on a scholarship right now because he worked so hard in college.  He'll go far and somebody out there will resent him, thinking he had everything handed to him.  Well he didn't. He worked and earned everything he got, with little help from me because I didn't have it to give.  My 14-year-old daughter is nearly blind from RP and she's already asking me if I will sign the papers so she can get a job. 


So here I am depressed and once again looking for a job.


 


I just brought this up below but...
If there are contracts in place, what are chances that they could be cancelled prematurely so long as the the terms of the contract are being met and the work is staying within the US?

(In other words, is it a certain amount of job security for US-based MTs as long as those clients stay on board?)

Medquist made me buy a new computer to go to the "Docuscribe" system that was so much better than cottage.  When I got there I took a real big pay cut to the tune of probably 30 to 40%.  I was getting paid gross lines doing Cedars-Sinai operative reports.  I asked for more per line and my supervisor just laughed and said you think were going to pay you $0.12 a line to just do operative reports!  I said I quit.  I should have said F you and your mamma too:(  I had been there all together 7 years through buyouts.  I am just sick of it all.  I'm going to go sew my daughter a cute little Halloween outfit right now.

I recently started helping with QA and have noticed so many blanks that could be avoided with the aid of a word book or dictationary.  For example, _______ regurgitation on an echo (look up regurg and see a list of possibilities).  And the word is fairly clearly pronounced.  Perhaps book research is yet another fading skill in this technology age.  Sigh.

I think that the account was not upront with QT. We were brought in sm
after QT had started because QT could not do it all. From the beginning, they told KS that it would be a KS account. We didn't lose 3 IDs last week either; we knew it was coming about the borrowed licenses and had prepared for it. I have been on the account since the beginning and really like it, but I am a big Expander user and pretty fast.

As a fellow radiology MT, my heart goes out to you. I went through that with another company and felt like someone had died. We had a double punch though; the company declared bankrupcy, and we did not get our last two checks. The owners didn't lose anything, they were incorporated. It was a nightmare for me as I was a newly divorced mom of 3 with no child support and had to go to my dad for a loan. It was a scary time.

I have been with KS about 3 years now and love it! They continue to grow, which is a good thing to see!
I was told that it was going to be brought up at their next meeting...
hopefully something like that will be set up because I think it would be beneficial...

I remember that as well, Boxer, that is funny and yet also a little sad that it actually seems to be really happening. who would have thought it possible in this country...

I have seen that most of my years in Medical Transcription since beginning in the hospital how administration would play women against women and just sit back and laugh about it.

AAMT was responsible for taking us out of the 'typing pool' and it is sad and 'sickening' as you mention that we are so far even beneath typing pool it is not funny
Thanks but all it brought up was things from 4-5 years ago.
How do I find some current things? It'd be nice to think that over time, something, anything has changed to a positive way, but I'd be lying if what was going on even that long ago doesn't give me pause for thought.  I want to think that a few years ago people weren't getting paid on time but I could be wrong on which company I am remembering.

I posted below. I am very happy working independent whether I work their hours or mine makes absolutely no difference to me. Your post is the first I ever seen that states the fact of what could happen and that is more of a tax burden for the person who blows the whistle on these owners. If a person is that ticked off with the way they are asked/told to work, why not get another JOB?

that is, sure people can type BUT no matter how much information you have on MTing, if you type really slow makes no difference, you have no job in this fast, fast paced job. In order to make a decent salary I have to work as fast as the audio goes and stay up with it, otherwise you would be reading about my making less than minimum which some have complained about on here. Typing 50-60 wpm just does not hack it in this business, unless you perhaps are working for an individual rather than a company and the majority on here I think might work for companies. Some say if they cannot get in their lines per week, no benefits. So back to my basic statement, slow typist-no work- no benefits- no money really.
They are constantly advertising because they are GROWING! They have brought on

Seems like I remember in training being told, If you bring the job up you are expected to type it. and that these things were monitored.

I feel like some days I just have the luck of the damned and other days are great. I don't feel they are cherry picked like I used to get at MQ.

If you really feel this is happening, contact your immediate supervisor and ask.

Questions about payroll, et cetera should be brought up to your leads...
not to the board...If this was strictly a Keystrokes board, then I would understand but it isn't. I have been there for over 2 years...Please don't feel like I am bashing you or anything. I just think it is inappropriate to bring up payroll questions on a public board.

Since you've brought it up, I've stopped SM

giving the negative info because every time I have in the past I am called a disgruntled ex-employee or told that my experience has no relation to what the company is like today.


I won't repeat the information I've given in the past, anyone can find it on searches.  I've decided to just let the people have their experience with the company and that experience will validate everything I've ever said about those people.


The same people own and run that company--they may have new names doing the management, but it still runs the same way.

The majority cannot be wrong.  Your first post brought on the reactions of many, all saying the same thing.  Your first post was rude.  It just was. the packet states no one will get a pay cut but they gave out pay cuts before people trained on DEP as DEP has only a certain pay level, so they were told. I guess this means no pay cuts with this packet. Pretty smarmy, huh??

Was it a lady by the name of Phyllis Tate who contacted you?  She is always going on cruises.  I turned down that company one week after I started working there.  That place is so darn screwed up.  Do not consider taking a job whatsoever!!!

I sent a resume to them and one of the questions was how much ESL do I do. I told them over 50% and that was why I was leaving my current job. They emailed me back and said based on my ESL answer, I was not a suitable candidate for their company.

This has never happened to me, not once. I have taken many tests and aced them and my email inbox was filled with email offers. I have 20 years experience and told them up front what I made/wanted. I think some MTs just can't face the fact that they failed the test.

Oh, please stop with all the nonsense!!  Why do you feel compelled to give out these TIPS?  So, nonqualified people can give a false, yet professional-appearing resume and then you can test them and waste your time?  Are you crazy?  At least you can quickly eliminate those - what does it take 1.5 seconds to look and throw out?  Is this your biggest job complaint?  Why don't you quit complaining about your job - do you really expect to get all perfect resumes!!  Hello - anyone home in there?? I thought evaluating a resume was part of a recruiters job - respond to good ones and don't to the bad ones...you act like you want these folks working at Super Wal-Mart to present a nice resume -Now, why would you desire that?


 These jobs are posted on the INTERNET - expect some crazy people !! 


P.S. I've had to deal w/a lot of recruiters who need some serious help, but I don't feel compelled to give out any suggestions - they would not listen anyway.  Its simple when the company/recruiter is ever rude, unprofessional, unorganized, giving false info - I move on.  You get a joke of a resume - move on!!

SAme thing happened to me ! After I resigned from Focus, It took them a good two weeks afterward to acknowledge my notice of resignation. They are sooooo ignorant and unprofessional !

because I have worked for Priority Transcription for over 5 years and NEVER had a problem getting paid. I have even received bonuses for meeting TAT! Maybe there was a reason you didn't get paid!!!
Funny how OSI is in bad need of MTs

so one person gets on here with all this crazy talk about how great they are.  Anyone who has worked for this company knows what a nasty little place it is.  Trust me, OSI has lost all the good ones.  The only people there are ones the other companies will not talk to.  Just makes ya go hmmmmmm!

I think Medquist has so much work because most MTs left and went to Transtech and now TransTech hasn't enough work! I know of a few MQ MTs who went to TT... coincidence? The workloads haven't changed, only the MT load.

Wish it wasn't so and sincerely hope TT gets back on even ground, they seem like such a nice company. On the other hand, MQ is getting what they ordered IMHO.
