I discussed this with an IRS agent recently
IC means you basically have more flexibility. I.E. you set your own schedule. The most the company can REQUEST is a window of time, i.e Turnaround time or say a 12 hour window to complete X lines or X reports. If you get X reports done in 4 hours, they cannot require you to stay on if you choose not to. You don't ask them for vacation time, you let them know when you will not be available period. ICs pay for that flexibility through paying their own taxes etc.

Employee - You are required to work a certain amount of set hours on a set schedule no matter who chooses the exact time even if you meet your line quota early. You ask for time off and have to be approved for it, and you are required to be in contact during your shift through media that they usually choose.

It is a fine line in some ways, but if you are classified as an IC, you should be under contract for an amount of work, i.e. assigned doctors, lines, reports or whatever within TAT or the window of 5 to 5 (just an example). If you are contracted for 8-5 Monday through Friday and are to keep in touch via Yahoo during your shift (which you must complete), you are an employee.
Do a search as it was discussed recently. There might be 3 places that do this. nm

Webmedx has been discussed a lot recently, read
posts further down and read the archives.
I was very chilled when I stated it was discussed recently, nor did I point
shall find a wealth of information. Those who don't, don't.
There were pages of VERY negative posts about them, in the high teen-20s pages on
s
Will we be able to see all the pages?
Cannot go to the 2nd page now.
well done! this could go 10 pages, lol.
/
they only had 100 pages to type!

I already have a job.  If I were trying to nab a full time job, I would have been more careful, but the woman told me she needed someone to help out ASAP, like this afternoon.... so I squeezed in the typing test during my regular work.  She needs help with 100 reports and then bye bye, so I really didn't think spongebob would make a difference to her.

Look on pages 9, 10, 11 of the archives,
there's more info there too.
Yep saw that. They think 10-15 pages an hour.?? sm
This is to coincide with their proposed hourly pay. They get their calculators out and think HEY this sounds good.

They have absolutely no IDEA how long a page takes and what expertise is involved. $1.10 a page. They equate women with typing and this shows value (under-valued, second class, purchased commodity.
Look through the yellow pages of your local

phone book and call agents that offer health insurance.  Make several calls.  I did this when we needed private insurance and each call I made I got a lower premium, although every company had the very same insurance.  Celtic is what we found to be the lowest.  We no longer have this insurance as we have insurance through DH job, but we had no existing conditions, no regular meds, nonsmokers, so I'm not sure if these were covered.   I'd keep calling about COBRA.  The company has to offer it.   If you go 45 days without insurance and have a pre-existing condition you are in trouble, unless things have changed since we got insurance.  There is a temporary insurance through Fortis that is very cheap, but the deductible is very high and it doesn't cover pre-existing conditions.

I'd stay away from the association for the self-employed or whatever it is called.  When I called them their rates were double what I could get a private policy for and it was the same insurance.

Any way you can search recent pages w/o having to go to each one
xx
Scroll down a couple pages (sm)
There are a few posts about them, nothing good that I saw.  I do remember complaints about not enough work and the owner needing to sharpen up on his communication and people skills.
What? There are a ton of TT MTs posting here. Scroll through the last few pages.
I would estimate that 95% of what you see posted here about TT is positive.
I agree 10 pages to long sm

A while back I applied with a co who sent me a 45 min test file.  I did 20 minutes of the file and sent it back.  I explained that I felt 45 minutes was excessive.  They asked me to work for them.  So you never know.

That being said, I saw WPU's ad  and $1.25 per page is low.  If you haven't done it before, you'll make less than $10 an hour to start.  If you're decent and can do 10 pages in an hour, you'll make 12.50 an hour.  If you're really good and can do 20 pages in an hour, then you're still only making $25 an hour - for being really good - and that's low in my book.  IMO

then why is it not posted on financial web pages?
No info from Forbes, Reuters...
or as soon as you memorize all of those pages on that account
they change your account again.
Job bank used to have 3 or more pages of jobs.
x
I do not believe this: This means that you read 11 pages
in half an hour?
One page has 40 lines.

This is a ridiculous statement.
I bet you cannot even read that fast WITHOUT having to make corrections!!!

It is good to be pro-VR, but don't push it with such hilarious pretenses.
you better check this board, all the pages...
someone posted what they pay, what it was like to work there, etc. do your homework. look b4 you leap.
Go to archives, company pg 87. Pages work
nm
Look back thru the jobs pages here or go to mtjobs.com. nm

I looked thru 2 pages and couldn't find anything.

I thought it was deleted as can happen here!

Go through the yellow pages of your local phone

book and call insurance companies that offer health insurance.  Call several.  I called 6 companies when I was looking and all the quotes were for the very same insurance, but varied as much as $200/mo.   Celtic was the best insurance.  For a family of 4, nonsmokers it was about $335/mo.   We don't have the insurance now as we have through DH job.  I can't remember if that included dental/vision/maternity coverage.   There is also a temporary insurance through Fortis, that depending on what state you live in is good for 1 year.  It is not renewable and you cannot get it if you have a pre-existing condition, or have been without coverage for a certain time period, can't remember but I think it is 15 days.   We could only get it for 6 months in our state and I paid the premium for the entire coverage and it was $403.00 total for the entire 6 months.  The deductible was $5,000.  This was basically catastrophic insurance, did not cover dental/vision/maternity.   We are all healthy and on no meds so for us it was the best option.    You can check e-insurance website and get some quotes to get an idea of coverage available, though it will not likely have everything that is available included, which is why I suggest calling local agencies.   There is a self-employed organization that offers insurance, but I found to be very expensive, about what you are paying now.

Check into medical savings accounts.  I don't know that much about them, but I believe you have to qualify for them.   You basically put $$ into an account much like an IRA and get tax breaks.

Don't know what they pay, but a poster a few pages back said Rad w/them was awful! nm
n
I personally don't advertise in the Yellow Pages because I was getting a lot of sm
calls from housewives who know how to type *real good*. Or people who wanted to do this because they saw in a magazine that you can make a lot of money in your free time!
you really need to read through all these pages...see thread inside
there are threads on pages on this company board that are not positive. however, people tend to post negative rather than positive at this site.

people are not going to do your searching for you. do not assume because no one answered your question it is positive sign.

for example, here's a thread at page 10.

http://forum.mtstars.com/company/v/1/94910.html

good luck.
They used to pay a low per-page rate & the subsequent partial pages

Wow! This means 19 pages in 1 hour! One page has 40 lines.
This I will n e v e r , e v e r believe, only if I see it with my very own 2 blue eyes!

LOL !

Just scroll back several days and search the pages for webmedx. nm

10 pages, bull, they want it for free, give them one page or find another job.
.
Yeah, I agree with the other posters. Ten pages is overkill. I think even with one page that would
get a feel for your skills and experience. No one can hide inexperience or inability to do the work.  There is NO WAY I'd ever do a 10-page report without being paid. They are ridiculous. I'd be curious to see if anyone actually falls for this tactic. I saw that they give their ICs 5 days turnaround time so I'd say if they had several MTs testing, they should easily make their quota for their clients. UNREAL!!!
It brings up 10 pages of info on TTS including the most recent stuff
nm
so does this mean OSI can still be discussed in
x
This has probably been discussed before....sm
But could someone tell me what is a low/high rate of pay when getting paid by the minute?  Never worked this way but it could be a more fair way to pay???  Not sure.  Comments appreciated.  TIA
this also has been discussed in the very
recent past with more than a handfull stating they do that range regularly.

That has already been discussed. nm

Already discussed below. nm

The only way this has been discussed --sm
to death is by a whole group of sourpusses jumping on her for even asking the question in the first place and telling her in no uncertain terms to do her own research, that she was not *entitled* to ask the question in the first place because she was wanting everybody else to do the work for her. There were a few *nice* responders who did give her some valid suggestions, but most of you all just tore her a *new one* for no reason whatsoever, other than you could, and that's it. Now THAT is rude! Her original question was not truly *discussed* at all, but ridiculed with rude responses, and nothing more. So don't try to make yourselves out as justified in your responses, because you are not. schoolyard bullies, all of you.
MQ is not to be discussed on this board. (SM)

There is a board for MQ posts and ALL MQ discussions belong there.

If you want to talk about DQS, which many companies use, refrain from bringing MQ into your post -- it invites MQ discussion and MQ discussion is restricted to the MQ board.

This has been discussed many times over the last

few weeks.  Do a search of this site and you will find many posts.  You can scroll down or go to the second page and probably even the third page at the bottom and find posts from people who work there.  I know I am very happy.  They are a very nice company with excellent benefits.

I would think you would know, pay should never be discussed with anyone - not very professional.
nm
we had discussed the situation
We had had a discussion about my mom before the warnings and my supervisor had made the statement that I would not be terminated but that I could possibly be placed back on part-time.  Afterwards the warnings came and I requested a leave with no response.  I wasn't taking it lightly.  I knew my performance was very poor; I just didn't know what to do about it.  Actually I wasn't upset they terminated me it was kind of a relief but the deposit on my equipment hey had no legitimate reason for keeping any part of it.
Don't know if this has been discussed, but...smCindiRI

Has anyone used Transcription Matchmaker, which is heavily advertised, especially on MTDaily, and is reportedly a matchmaker headhunter/recruitment which promises to match up an MT with a company that matches their skill level, their specific interests, their work needs, etc., with just the right company.  There are just so many companies out there, so many conflicting reports from folk who have worked for these companies and supposedly know the inside details, and as a heavily seasoned  MT who has had her share of OOOPs and blunders, I thought this might be good resource???? Thanks so much in advance!

Does PC-Shorthand discussed here used by KS (sm)
is that word processing only - or does it include medical words too?  If it does not, what do you use for medical words?  (I don't work for KS but am thinking of using this software since everyone seems to like it.)  Thanks!
