Right hand and left hand dictated on same report.

because the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing... EVER! that's how.

EMR and Transcritpion can go hand-in-hand

IMO, until the old docs retire, they will use EMR and transcribed reports hand-in-hand.  There is no reason to totally go away from dictation, since typed reports can (and probably are already) be added to the EMR system.

Starting in 2011 when the big roll-out starts, until 2015 when Medicare/Medicaid penalties go into effect for any doctors not using EMR, there should be no dramatic change in the number of MT jobs.  After 2015, I believe that as Transcriptionists retire, those jobs will simply not be replaced.  It may mean medical transcription schools will have fewer people to train starting in 2015 because of the decline in NEW transcription positions, but current Medical Transcriptionists should be able to retire from this field, if they want to.  JUST MY OPINION.

Here is an interesting article giving the pros and cons of both EMR and transcription from a doctor's point of view.

Never. They do not and have never held a check. nm

Nobody held your hands to the keyboard
  Go away!!
My line count is being held

Can anyone else relate to having their line count held until your supervisor feels you have helped out enough.  I always meet my line count and track my line count daily.  My line count is always significantly lower than my supervisors count every pay.  Everyday I go all out and really hustle to meet my line count. I type 10 minute reports and only get credit for about 50 lines. So, I hustle and hustle to make my count.  I am almost 1000 lines behind my supervisors count and I am tired.  I simply want to meet my line count and stop working, but I cannot get an accurate count until I have help the team produce more and more lines.  I am fed up. HELP!!!

I've never had my check held..
I realize there are some companies that have this practice, which is basically getting you in their pay period schedule, but I have never had this happen. I discuss this up front and all my checks have been mailed or DD within 2-3 days of end of pay period. You need to look at your contract.....it should be spelled out.
Dont know about the system you use but we all are held to a
98% or above accuracy, so I don’t think it is about whether you care about accuracy or not, I want my work to be as good as humanly possible. The particular hospital I do have done now for over 15 years, some doctors are quite familiar and then again yesterday was a nightmare with all the ESL physicians I had to put up with. I NEVER ever retype a complete sentence. Our formatting has been off lately as far as numbers, 4, 4, 4 and then a 2, 3 and so forth and yes it takes time for me to correct each and every one. Some people never like VR. When outsourced we had some to try and then gave up but I personally like it because it changes mistakes now that I do not have in my autocorrect, just seems to know. The #1 thing I think I like the most is I never thought it would be able to pick up on ESLs and thank goodness, it does them about as good if not better than our English doctors. With all the ESLs all around us now, I am thankful I do not have to hunt and look for every little word they say I cannot understand.
I've held my tongue about OSI and offshoring
I interviewed with OSi more than 2 years ago. One of my standard questions in an interview is whether or not the company offshores. The recruiter told me up front that the company did offshore on certain accounts that demanded it be done to save money. I accepted that and didn't have a problem with it. That was not the deal breaker for me (I got a better deal from another company on the same day).

I had just left working as the MT coordinator at a small MTSO. While working in-house, I had opportunity to work alongside the marketer. There were several times when he would return from a potential client's office with the news that he could only get the account if he offshored it by client demand. If he took that account by offshoring it, he could get a bigger account associated with it that did not want the offshoring component or rate. From a business prospective, he gave up something small to get something bigger. The offshore component of the business amounted to less than 10% of the client base.

The OSI recruiter was open and honest with me. In my mind, that holds more weight than a recruiter that lies through the teeth just to get you through the door and you end up leaving because they can't deliver on the promises.

Climbing off my soap box now.
Needing a job
After the initial phone interview, how long should it take to get the testing info?  What happens after you test?
Spheris is a privately held company, there are no shareholders
I suspect this report is bogus.

Their latest press release says they are planning on increasing their domestic work force at the same time as their overseas one, to match their aggressive pursuit of new accounts. (Personally I think they ought to concentrate on servicing the ones they have.)
You want them to be held accountable for the fact they didn't hire you (sm)?
If I could guess maybe they didn't like your attitude, maybe they realized from talking to you that you were just the kind of employee they did not want to be accountable for (and from your snotty remarks on here, I bet they sure feel justified now that they passed on you)JMHO.

You say it is suspicious, why? What is suspicious about a company not hiring you? They do have that right don't they or do you just think anytime you put in a resume you should automatically get the job? Enlighten me please, because your post has me confused.

Any companies you know of needing...(sm)

any overflow help?  Been hard to find as I am looking specifically for radiology and have a FT job from home already.  Just looking to help someone with overflow and make a little extra money on the side.  Anyone have any suggestions or any companies looking at this that would be interested?  Email me if you would like.

Thanks!

Or maybe it has to do with timing and needing MTs and
paying what it takes to get them.  You have to remember to that I am an SE so I have to pay my own taxes and also in order to get 10 cents per line, I had to be full time.  Part time I think started out at 7.5 cents per line.
Needing advice
I am a rather new MT.  I only have about 1 year of experience and I have gotten back into the business recently.  I have been getting job offers, but none of them really turn out to be very good.  Can someone tell me some of the better well-known companies that hire someone with such little experience.  Any advice would help greatly.

Needing advice

I am fairly new into this home transcription thing and was wondering if I could get some good solid advice on how to stay motivated working from home (I have a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old at home and would like to work around their schedule i.e. nights, during naps so don't have to pay for daycare) Would IC be better for me in my situation rather than employee based?  Also, any companies that anyone would recommend that works with the MT, or any that you would recommend?

I know this is asking a lot but some good solid advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you. Just the info I was needing.
Have to admit, the change was alluring. Oh, well.
Couldn't Amphion be held liable for minimum wage
I'm just sayin'
as far as needing certain hours that would conflict with IRS
but that is between the company and the worker.
Needing to vent alittle
I inquired about a job with Medivoxx, before I realized they used VR and expected you to transcribe and edit.  The information I received back stated that after two weeks uncompensated pay, the following 30 days would be 3 cpl, and then 5, and eventually 7.  Before I went any further, I asked approximately how many lines/day VR editing runs, as I would think it would be higher than transcribing since you are not actually typing it all out, but editing.  I wanted to know all this before I considered quiting the job I have now, which is not a transcription job, I am only doing that part time and am looking for full time. My response to this question was to not quit my current job.  This seems alittle odd to me, so I wanted to vent and share this info with everyone else.  Thanks
Advice needing in obtaining clients
I am lost.  I have been an MT for 3 years now and would like to obtain a few clients on my own.  My family has put me down for years and say I should be lucky to have a job and not to think big. My husband is no help. He also feels I cannot do it and now I am beginning to doubt myself.  I simply am lost.  How do I get started?  what software do I need for the doctors to get the voice files to me?  Am I insane for wanting more, or for wanting to have clients on my own?  Work is slow at the national I am at and if I obtain clients on my own, I can maybe have a future for my daughters.  Thanks
Just how do you think an MTSO will be able to calculate this into the work needing to be done?
:+
Other than needing the Olympus software, don't know a thing. nm

Needing reasons not to jump ship

It is hard to get a sense of things working at home... just want to know if there are any MTs at Transtech who do not plan to jump ship, or if I need to start worrying and go too?  I am also wondering who the TT people went to after they jumped ship.  I have sent numerous inquiries out and no answer.. could it be the market is flooded right now with resumes because of the recent VR situation?

Another reason I ask is that I believe TT is a strong company and I have been very happy there.  Yes, I have had to be very flexible, but I have not yet run out of work and still make good money, benefits, etc.  Why, however, are TT MTs any different than the more than 60 percent of MTs who have already gone to some type of VR at their company such as the people at Webmedx who are still happy, and others. It would be nice to get different viewpoints here... my instinct is to say keep with the TT, and work it all out because the company is strong... and most other companies if not are with VR will go there too someday!  I am the only source of income for my family and need to know what is going on out there in the world! Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Any companies needing part time help on a Lanier account?
nm
I have seen this first hand with my own BIL
who is an M.D. He fired his own MT (IC) because he got a voice recognition program and decided to do it himself to save $. Like he needs to pinch pennies. He let her go after 10 years and sits at home doing it himself. Then tells me I should think of another career path because I am going to lose my job to his new program, hahaha! That was 2 years ago and my national still bothers me every weekend to work.
On the other hand...
We could all be totally thrilled and happy with the "new and improved" Medquist about to be unveiled. I'm staying POSITIVE!
W2s in hand?
Well, that is good to know, but who is going to monitor them, the W2 police? What is our recourse if we don't get them on time? It is aggravating to be ready to file returns and have to wait.
On the other hand

Most of us don't have much choice where to buy our water, natural gas or electricity. But hospitals can shop around until they get the transcription on the cheap.  And some well-thought-of MTSOs are losing accounts that have been totally satisfied with the work, because some other MTSO promises the client pie in the sky, 99.9% accuracy, 1-hour TAT at a real bargain price.  Might take the hospital quite a while to discover you should *love the one you're with*.

Some of us have had an experience with deregulation of public utilities in our areas.  A small natural gas provider offers cheap rates on gas, using the big company's transmission system.  You sign up, then within a month or two the little company *discovers* it can't afford to sell the gas at those rates and has to raise its prices.  Sounded like a good deal at the time, but getting un-signed up and back with the company you never should have dropped is a real hassle.

Not unlike what happens when a hospital gets courted by a new MTSO and finds that the price is nice but the quality stinks, because it is either bad VR, or offshore outsourced.  Have you ever noticed that a client hospital gets super picky about QA issues that never were a problem before?  This is how they justify breaking a contract before it's up, to go with the cheaper company.

On the other hand
They hope that we're all sheepish enough to make nice with them until they get the accounts transitioned over, so even if they may not care if we stay or if we go, they're pompously (but probably accurately) assuming enough will stay to make the transition smooth FOR THE CLIENT.

Glad I'm not one that will be helping out in this regard.

I figured one good turn deserves another and walked on MDI-MD immediately.

I hope this has 'FAIL' stamped all over it.

Enjoy your $16 mil, D...I hope you're sent on a slow boat to India to spend it.

Hold my hand??? sm
How about returning my calls instead of hiding behind the answering machine!! How about answering one of my dozen emails!! Give it up Lee. You're just making the obvious more obvious.
Yep!! I have experienced that first hand.
On more than one occasion, the company I worked for knew that I had worked 22 days in a row without a day off. They were so back logged and desperate that their response to me (CEO's response) was so, I've worked 24.
Right hand does not know what the left is doing!!

You obviously have your hand in AAMT...sm
or HIS or you wouldn't post ignorant stuff like this. If you don't have anything supportive to say, don't say anything at all.
Aren't we all. Why do you think someone should just hand

They sold off what they have. They might have more on hand, but I think that sm
once it's gone, it's gone.

So, no they do not provide equipment. They sold what they had for dirt cheap. Some accounts need it, some don't. If they have it, they will sell it to you very cheap, if they don't you have to find your own.

Okay, now calm down, it's okay. I see a hand too sm
when I have the message open, then scroll down to see the list, it is pointing to the one I have open. Do they have rooms with a view there?
The Mysterious Hand
Oh thank goodness someone else sees it.  I have never noticed this before, and I have been coming on this forum for months now.  Yes, there is a window view, and we only have to wear the straight jackets in the afternoon to give the staff a break
Gotta hand it to ya
:)
No your hand is up, because apparently
you think it's normal for somebody not to be able to spell the name of the company they work for. Sorry, my hand is down because I agree that's a little weird. Sorry if that offends, people, I just think it's strange.

Raise your hand... SM
...if you work for Acusis and your pay was cut during today's conference call.
Me to, I sit there with 1 hand on the mouse and the other on the
keyboard, reading along. When a correction is necessary, I put the cursor in that spot and make the correction and read on.
I never use shortcuts and I cannot imagine that this would speed me up.
Second hand information s/m
My DIL works for them  and  has for some years.  She seems pretty happy, says as long as you do what you're suppose to do no problems.  She said she very rarely runs out of work.  I've never worked for them myself.
A bird in the hand..... nm
s
My feeling exactly. I can count on 1 hand

the number of times I haven't helped out when they have gotten backlogged, usually without being asked with never a thank you, but an e-mail or phone call asking me to do extra the next day and then the next.   I've always pulled my share and then some.  I don't care about a gift or even a card, but if I do my 40 hours/committed line that should be enough.   They aren't paying me when there isn't any work.

Ultimately it comes down to they don't care if I'm sick or I have a life or not, they just want the lines done.  They didn't used to be that way, or at least they would offer incentives, which they rarely do now.   I can't stand threats about losing accounts.  If isn't my fault if they lose it.   If another MT is not doing her share don't ask me to pick up the slack.

Please don't post what you have no first-hand knowledge of. sm
It just makes it difficult to sort through what is true and what is not.
ooops, my expander got out of hand..lol - nm

Until money is in hand, yes, we have been stiffed.

A bird in the hand, well you know the rest
probably. A place would never want to hear let me work a little while longer but as soon as I find something that fits I will dump you. I would have worked another job in some way, at least on a part-time basis, while getting out of the VR business. Good luck.
