I'm with you -- SE is the best of both worlds!

When I first started with MQ, it was as an SE and I loved it.  I stayed with them through the changes and became an employee.  The only thing I liked about that was getting PTO.  I have since given that up and went back to being SE with another company.

The PTO wasn't worth it for me, and I didn't need any of the other benefits.  Setting my own schedule is far more important to me than any of that.  I will say that Polly MT above is right -- make sure whatever company you choose to be SE/IC with that you get to set your own hours.  A lot of the MTSOs are calling it IC, but requiring a set schedule.

I have also found that sometimes it's necessary for me to work hours I don't want to work to keep me in my primary.  There isn't always a lot of work in the morning hours on my account, so I find it necessary to work nights, but I don't mind.  I usually divy up my hours throughout the day anyway.

These companies want the best of both worlds, and
as long as people cater to them, they will keep it up. If they want ICs only, they need to adjust their rate of pay to include what we have to pay for social security and Medicare taxes as ICs. You're right about IC status. The only good thing aboutIC is being able to work what you want, not what they want. Stay away. I tried it a few months ago and waited for months before I got any pay, but it was so low that I wouldn't have missed it anyway. Ask me if I quit that job.
Talk about wanting the best of both worlds!
The job ad for the IC paying 7 cpl, and you MUST work these certain days and hours, NO EXCEPTIONS!  Huh?  She needs to change her ad to employee status!  I don't get it!
