maybe she has been reading this board. sm
some of the posts and responses to posts here would make me snippy, condescending, and hateful too.
My thoughts on reading the board: MTs are mad as
about the dishonesty in this biz for very much longer. The healthcare industry as a whole (including MT) is way overdue for a major SHAKEOUT & HOUSECLEANING, and the more ticked-off MTs and ALL employees in, and users of, health care in this country are, the sooner it will begin to happen.
Just a few thoughts after reading this board today.....sm

After reading all the posts about recruiters, hiring on for more than one company at a time in order to weed out the undesirables, and ESL percentages at various companies, I have to say I am more than a little disappointed in some of the opinions rendered here.  I make no apologies for what I am about to say because I feel it is long overdue.

Recruiters are hired to bring new talent into a company.  Yes, that is the way they make their living,  and yes,  there are probably some out there who grossly misrepresent their respective companies during the interview process.  However, there is no absolutely perfect job anywhere, be it as an MT or anything else.  My mother taught me from a very early age that we must accept the good with the bad and that the good generally outweighs the bad.  As long as you look for the bad in any situation, that is all you are going to find.  In the interview process,  it is up to you to ask questions, even worst-case-scenario questions, and make the determination of whether a company meets the majority of your needs and make a decision on whether to work for them.  Bear in mind, however,  that no one company is going to meet everyone's needs and please everyone, just as any one MT could fulfill the needs of a particular company with regard to skill set, dependability, production, etc.

For those of you who think you are beating the system by hiring on with multiple  companies to test drive them and decide which one to stay with....SHAME ON YOU!  I find this highly unethical and am appalled that anyone would even consider such a thing.  And if you think for a minute that your name won't be circulated in MTSO circles as an MT without scruples, you had better think again.  Many companies go to great expense to train MTs, ship equipment, process payroll paperwork and do other hiring process duties when hiring you.  Not only are you painting a very undesirable picture of MTs, you are causing our line rates to be decreased because of your wasteful attitudes because companies must either cut costs or raise prices to their clients and most companies would rather choose the former (cutting our line rates) over the latter because they would suffer greater loss by losing a big client than a few MTs who feel they are underpaid.

As far as ESL percentages, ESL is here to stay, folks, and the sooner we learn to develop an ear for their accents and quit complaining about them, the better off we will be.  I have been an MT for almost 20 years now and I have found through my experiences at various companies that a good portion of the ESL dictators are more conscientious than a lot of the EFL dictators.  It probably does make a difference that I cut my teeth on 5 rather difficult ESL doctors as my first accounts when I got into this business, but I digress.  There are still ESL dictators who drive me to distraction, but through careful study and development of my ear, I  can usually figure them out.  Yes, it does slow me down, but I find that I have great satisfaction when I conquer a tough ESL.  I would just say to you to work hard on developing your ear and learn these ESL dictators, because this is the trend for the medical profession.

MT is a great profession of which I am proud to be a member.  It just plain disgusts me when I come here and read all the whining and conniving and complaining that goes on.  We are supposed to be professionals and professionals do not behave in the manner I have seen here.  If one wishes to effect a change in the MT industry, I would suggest that person make the necessary changes from within.  Otherwise, it is never going to happen.

I know I have probably insulted some sensitivities here so I will step down off my soapbox and let the chips fall where they may.

MQ has own board because we got tired of hearing the same repeated complaints about them on the
;P
LOL!!! Great reading!! Mentoring program straight to QA at
ewwwwwww!
I have to admit my line count has improved since reading the board
I see how everyone else is doing, and then I can set goals for me, though I am too shy to be on the goal board yet. I have to thank the board for that. It teaches me what is possible, and also that we can only do our best. I have to agree totally about how it has been a godsend.
Ditto. I stopped even reading the company board recently
I could not even get through the conversations to the real information on companies. I come here to be informed and to be supportive, but it has gotten tiring going through the constant redundant arguing. I almost gave coming here but it is part of my day. I just come here less now.
I agree 100% with old and tired mt...sm
they put you on these awful accounts with the most antiquated and slow platform in the world of MT and expect you to have 100% quality the first time. QA for me was inconsistent and it confused me like crazy. You may like KS, but you probably are on one of the 'GOOD' accounts/clinic accounts. One of the Lead MTs trained me for one account they switched me to.....that woman did not know A from B and gave me INCOMPLETE and INCORRECT instructions....working there was a hot mess!
Deb Garrison, I hope you're reading this board, because I'm coming at you with one hell of a l

I know that there are a lot of you out there who are owed money.  Some of you are owed LOTS of money and Deb just spends it on herself.  You'll likely NEVER get paid, but together you can all make sure she never runs an MTSO again.  But, what needs to happen is ALL MTs screwed out of their paychecks must come together for this to actually happen.  You all can email me at flagfootballcoach@gmail.com and we will pull together and bring down the hammer on this woman.  She has had too many different businesses, taken people for their hard earned money, and needs to be shut down for good.

I agree - tired of working for nothing
Considering leaving the field all together
Honestly, after reading those replies below, I have to agree. nm

Ex-MQ MT board is a great idea!! nm

They went to that great mother board in the sky.

tired, tired, tired of all the tech
problems with these platforms.  I just want to work on an old fashioned program, like WP5.1 or Medrite, maybe with voice wave.  Too many problems.  Does anybody know any companies that use something like these.  Just call me a dinosaur lover.
Don't know about turnover but new clients coming on board - GREAT company

I agree. If you believe this board, there is no
company out there that is decent. This week happens to be Keystrokes' turn to be roasted.
I agree, FN is great!
I agree, FutureNet is a great place to work.  I've been there a little better than 7 months.  I started out as an IC and then changed to an SE so that I could have direct deposit.  No complaints from me!
I agree about the great MTs only. nm

TTer
Thought it was a little crackly today, but thought it was my speakers or the weather, what do I know?
I'm not a TTer
I have followed the discussions here about the insurance and I have to say I'm impressed that TT did something about it. Most companies say, sorry, that's the best we could do.
Thank you very much, TTer. nm
:)
Not TTer
How many American MTs does TT have?
agree great company
nm
Agree. Great Company.
Very flexible in scheduling as long as you get your lines in. Pay is always on time. Owner is extremely nice. Good pay. Easy software.
I so agree w/you - Great post....but....n/m

we can only lead a horse to water, we cannot make them drink it....if they choose to be intolerant, it's their choice as sick as it seems.  I choose to go through the life as a loving, compassionate person.  Others choose not to go this route.

Yes, racism and neonazism is, unfortunately, alive and well, in the USA and all over the world.  So, if we raise our children with our awareness and our love and compassion, hopefully the future generation (our kids) will Do The Right Thing!!

I agree -- great post.

I started in a clinic but quickly moved to a large teaching hospital, and the mentorship and listening parties was very valuable.  Another thing that works that I particularly like is to walk away, go have a cookie, then come back.  Sometimes then you can hear what the doc is saying!  At least as bad as ESL are the docs who have a 15-minute report but by the time they're done uhh-ing and ahh-ing and emm-ing through the report you have about 40 lines.

I don't agree -- some of the smaller great sm

companies find you from your resume.  I recently had an offer and accepted a postion with a very small MTSO who saw my resume.  If she posted an ad, she'd probably be inundated with tons of resumes, if you can believe what everyone says here on the boards about the amount of responses.  Instead, she looks at the qualifications and contacts those who meet her requirements.   I suppose if you are currently in a position and afraid to have your employer know you are looking, it could be a sticky situation, but ...... use a different email addy and/or a different ID of some type until you find out.

Bottom line ..... I never say never :-)   I feel very fortunate to have fallen into the situation I am in -- a great small MTSO with great accounts,  who cares about helping you achieve whatever you want to achieve.

I have to agree -- great post. Plus, when you take the job, sm

you are told upfront what the benefits are and what the requirements are, so if they are not to your liking, why take the position?   I am quite happy here at TT, and am thrilled at the news about the 401k.  Of course, I've been doing transcription for over 30 years now, so I guess that puts me in the age bracket where thinking about retirement is a little bit higher on my list than maybe someone 20-something, although I wish I had been smart when I was 20 and started putting away.  Oh well .......

Again, great post ... thanks for sharing.

great post...and I agree...
nm
Agree - Everyone I have had contact with is great (sm)
very friendly and informative. However, I don't need to know everything they are doing, just that they provide me work, pay me and then an added bonus, I get benefits. My name is not on the company letterhead, I/we are simply parts of the whole process.

I ran out of work a couple of times, and a couple of times I have been unable to work due to construction issues going on at my home. Not their fault and they certainly didn't chastise me over it.

I am more than glad to bend and flex with the company just as they seem to do with us.

I hope they don't allow people to speak out at the meeting today. A few disgruntled ones will monopolize all the time and won't allow the company designated speakers to keep us apprised of any upcoming news or changes they might want to share.

Like I said, I am relatively new, but so far very very happy and would suggest to those who are so very disgruntled that they go out and there try MQ or some of these other companies on for size. It will certainly make you appreciate what you have.

That's a great suggestion, and I agree.
I have been in this a long time, but I would be interested in training for ultrasound tech... I wonder how much that would bring in salary? Does anyone know? We can always transcribe on the side for extra money... even with VR the extra money would be pocket money which is always welcome. If I were younger, I would go into nursing, just can't now... Thanks for your great and positive idea... I hope that other people can add to this.
I agree..I have been very busy on my account and have not even been on this board (sm)
for 3 days in a row. I am still with KS and very happy.  A couple weeks ago I posted my true feelings about working there because they were true and after the horrors I experienced at Medquist the last year I was there, KS is a refreshing change of pace.  If someone doesn't like the fact that people who work for KS are genuinely happy, don't read the posts about them. I am not a member of management or someone who was coerced to write how I feel about my job.  I have worked for 4 MT companies in the past 15 years and Keystrokes is far and away the best.  I do not like switching companies either so I plan on staying with Keystrokes for the duration of my career.
Agree. I never visit my state's board. I bet a lot of

I agree - every major MTSO on this board seems to have the same sm
issues ongoing. I've seen multiple company names mentioned (just scroll down) all summer long, so it isn't a situation isolated solely to Webmedx.

I believe it IS the economy, as well as increased volumes going offshore (not at Wmx but the other MTSOs) affecting volumes nationally. There are no companies offering giant hire-on bonuses any more either.

I am also grateful for my job, even if it means flexing around more.
Happy TTer here! nm

Where are you? Or another happy TTer?

Question for TTer's
Do they allow you to make up line shortages on your day off? I know some companies do and others don't. Just wondering what their policy is before considering them.
To Happy New TTer
Amen...Say it again really loud....speak the truth and SHAME the Devil.....Agree with you totally.....
You are so right, nuther TTer s/m
I can only imagine how much damage may be done by some of these posts.  I usually consider myself to be pretty level-headed and reasonable but those posts made me pretty upset:  #1 because I have been through some pretty underhanded things in years past and #2 because I read a second email saying to disregard the previous email and so deleted it without bothering to read it; thus I just assumed that the poster knew what he/she was talking about.  When I came down to earth, I sent off an email to management and got back an explanation so guess I won't be going into retirement too soon.  Seems like it makes more sense to address our concerns with the company for which we work before posting stuff on the internet that gives a company a black eye and then having it turn out to be unfounded.  We all make mistakes and in the case of TT, I would be furious if I were them, both because of the stuff that was posted as well as with the company they hired to handle the payroll.  I feel quite certain that if this HR service, or whatever it is called, doesn't live up to their expectations, they will be quick to fire them.  As far as I'm concerned, TT is still among the best companies out there today.  I didn't say perfect but then I'm not perfect myself either.
TTer - and other TT folks......
I am curious:

1. What is TT?
2. Are they hiring?
3. Do they pay decent cpl rates?
4. Are they flexible as far as work hours?
5. Do they use a platform and if so what platform(s) do they use?

TIA - feel free to email me.

No you can't. TTer down below is hogging all

According to TTer, she is the only one who can cut it. No candy for anyone today.

I used Emdat for 9 months and do not agree that it is that great.

It is great for the company and the doctor.  Generally the doctors are not expected to supply the information or even use their designated recorder which causes the Transcriptionist to change and fix the demographics.  The spell checker is the worst and I ALWAYS copied my finished document into MS Word to check for errors.  You CANNOT copy back into Emdat from Word.

It is slow and boggy.  The F1 function is way over rated.  There are good points if the doctor actually does his part at his end.  Just my opinion.......

I have to agree -- truly a great place to work. sm

There is always a learning curve anywhere, of course, but wiithin just a short time, my production was the same with TT as anywhere else.  The benefits are pretty good, insurance affordable, and as an added bonus, the people there truly care about their employees.   After 30+ years of transcribing, I feel like I finally found my home.

I agree, it's a great company! I have worked
at many places, but Transcend is the best. No company is perfect, but I have been very happy here.

I agree. A bunch of ugly trolls on the board today who like
trouble. And who obviously aren't typing right now. I just took a break and am back to where they appreciate me. At work for TT!
I'm not a TTer, but this is a holiday week. I've
been on OT for months, but short lines every day this week.  I get paid downtime so doesn't matter to me.  I know next week things will pick up again.
The same here! I agree. They are a great company but the lack of work drove me away.

Gotta agree -- YOG was the best! Great pay, good benefits. I quit sm
the moment I heard she had sold to MQ .. ugh.
