That's funny - me too. I don't hate MT'ing anymore (sm)
and those who know me well find this amazing!! I actually don't dread coming in here mornings to start work.  2 years for me.
Love VR and hate to do straight typing anymore
My work is a combination of both VR and straight, VR about 85% of daily work. I never retype any sentence much less a paragraph when it is VR. I think a person only has to do that with a particular bad platform. Escription is excellent VR.
she has been saying she wouldn't come here anymore since over a year ago
ain't fooling no one.  Also, as of last year, the HR person was being introduced to newbies as her SIL.  Also, the fact that new hires go for a month or more w/o being set up after being offered a job hasnt changed a bit either.  Also, if you talk to Lee on a regular basis, you start to see holes in things that she tells you.  It is just a given.  But that doesn't mean that the company cannot serve a good purpose for many MTs and clients.  I believe that the rad accounts have been there awhile and the MTs are basically happy and treated good with plenty of work and no drama.  I do think that most of the problems, instability and discrepancies from Lee and others happens more to the MTs on the newer accounts.
I've been doing that for a year, and HATE it.
So I'm looking for something else, some type of office job. Unfortunately, that's the way the MT biz is these days. The MTSOs make these ridiculous schedules because it's easier for them than trying to get people to work on weekends, in my opinion. You will also notice that the people in the office work M-F 9-5, with all holidays off.

The only difference is my hubby is in the oil business. Other than that, everything you say rings true for me too!

Would not change a thing!
I could have written your post
but not said it nearly so well - agree 100%!!
Thank you, I appreciate that. I could have written your post as well s/m
We got an email from my STM today saying that one MT got the No Studies Available message 110 times in one day and still got their 8 hours in and typed 1500 lines, and we should be so dedicated. That really made me feel sad. I mean, I WISH I could do that. I really do. My personal and family situation just does not permit me to sit waiting for 10-12 hours a day to get the work in when it is not there. Sad, but true. I will hope the best for you as well...
I could have written this post., sm
If per chance a company is having issues with a client starting up, a little give/take goes a looong way. You have to remember there are often times issues that are out of the MTSOs control.

As far as them hiring someone to type 10 reports and then not pay them. Seriously!? They could type those 10-20 reports much faster than the time it takes to hire someone, i.e. computer/software setup, paperwork, training, QA of those reports, etc. JMO.

Everyone I have dealt with at Landmark has been more than accomodating to my needs as well. I'd recommend them to a friend without a second thought.
Your post could have been written by me

Although there are a few differences in the rules between MT and VR, I've noticed that some don't even follow the basic rules in the account specifications.

Although it hurts me in the wallet, I, too, take my time; although some days I wonder why I do that and sometimes just want to forgetaboutit.

This post looks like it was written by
an offshore MT.

bet we're on the same account. Got hired there a few months ago on the same shift, same days, same problem with running out of work most of my Sunday nights, BUT I made it very clear up front I'd only do that mandatory OT (which is basically 5 hours every week on this account)on my Fridays off. In other words, they effectively have me on Sundays and Fridays but again, no way will I work more than 8 hours a shift, I do have a somewhat of a life beyond keyboarding. I've adapted but wow, weird way to have to manage an account, if you ask me, run out of work Sunday nights and the sky is falling with too much work by Tuesday. I, too, find this work atmosphere stressful and tiresome, but I gotta say it's a relief to make a decent paycheck again, and the account itself ain't all that bad compared to many I've worked on elsewhere in my 32 years of doing transcription. MT TOO LONG, this particular account is no VR, Dolbey Fusion, can be a pain in the you-know-what but I believe very doable.
Your post is so well written and so true...
I realized that saying something really will not make any difference and venting my frustration has made me feel better. I really can understand where you have been and know that everything happens for a reason and the way you handle each and every situation in life defines you as a person. I am going to stick it out for now, but have an offer from another company I am really contemplating, as I will be back doing my specialty of reports and maybe can finally get some decent lines again, as I really like to be able to eat out once in a while. ;oD
I could have written your post. A few months

ago my company, where I had been for more than 5 years began having issues.  I started looking around, sent in resumes, posted my resume on the job boards.  I got at least a dozen job offers.  Most I eliminated due to too low of a cpl or was being offered clinic when I wanted acute care.  I narrowed it down to 2 companies.  I accepted a position with one of them, but then the next day I changed my mind because I had been with the same company for so long.  I was familiar with my doctors, my platform, I was left alone to do my work, had all the work I could handle, etc.   The fear of having to start all over again terrified me, so despite the issues I decided to stay and ride it out.  The company went belly up a few months after that and I didn't have a choice but to make a change then.

There is no guarantee company #1 will still be in business five years from now.  There is no guarantee company #2 will be in business five years from now.  If you are very happy at job #1 you wouldn't be considering job #2.  For me the money itself wouldn't be enough to make be change.

You could try both for a short time to give you a feel of whether changing companies would be a good more or whether the extra money just isn't worth it to leave your comfort zone.

Maybe going to job #2 will be the best thing you ever did or maybe you'll regret it for a long time to come.  Unfortunately you are the only one who can make the decision.  If you don't take job #2 you may always have regrets or the what ifs.  If you take job #2 you might be kicking yourself for months wondering why in the world did you even consider changing because you really had it pretty good at job #1.

I know I haven't helped you decide, which wasn't my purpose.  I just wanted to give my view point, which is most likely different than yours because it doesn't personally involve me.  It is always easier to tell someone else what they should/should not do than it is to make the same decisions for yourself.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

At first I thought I had written your post
The same thing happened to me.  Yet I continue to try and I ask myself WHY???  I am retired so I've got mine, why should I care about anyone else?  I guess cuz that's just the way I am.
I also could have written your post.. Does your company start with a .....
T...??? It just sounds way too familiar and I have cut back on working for them because I'm sick of getting the garage that they won't send to the Indians
This post is written like a medical report

Someone has been MTing way too long....

I think we got it the first time you said we don't care.  So, now we know what Data-Med expects.  Now, I wonder how many MTs feel degraded that you even posted this because it comes across condescending.  It really does.

Hourly would be great, but you and I know it's almost unheard of anymore.

I bet the benefits aren't so great anymore.
Everywhere business are taking a hit and passing it on to their employees. Good insurance now at a company is one where you aren't spending more than $300 a month and you have just co-pays or a very small deductible.

Wages are frozen, people being fired for budget costs, everyone's doing two or more jobs and getting paid for one.

It would probably be a big blow to go back for a lot of people. The work place isn't the way it used to be anymore. Sad.
Wow...now that sounds great. I hate using my PTO for holidays ...not fair/nm
xx
I won't even post on the MQ board anymore...
Its gone far beyond even MQ bashing to MT bashing! Not my cup of tea.

PS: Nice 2 have another GUY on the boards LOL - keep posting! :)
I gather from your post that you aren't there anymore - sm
I am really trying to find a company that I will be happy with long-term. Would you mind saying why you decided to leave? TIA!
I hate this kind of cheap shot post. What's the deal? nm

I think they are great. Been here over a year and couldn't be
happier.
Definitely great place to work, 2 year
anniversary coming up and I still love my job.
Still not great PTO for first year. I get 12 days at current company. NM

Great place to work. I've been there a year.
Exactly what do you want to know?

Very much appreciated after all the negativity.
Great post!

I post my opinions on companies when people ask, but always try to remind them that that is just my experience, might not be the same for everyone.

Thank you for posting this. It was well said!

Great post!
They should state this upfront- and not wait to be called. This years' winner in a field of ___ contenders, is ___

Great post. nm

Your post is GREAT
I would only add that perhaps new MTs be allowed to mentor with a seasoned MT. I think it would be difficult for them to get in a hospital or clinic setting.
Great post
My biggest complaint is an MTSO that will attempt to obtain cooperation from bad dictators. Too many companies think that they'll lose an account if they ask for cooperation/consideration, but this work should be viewed as a team effort. Offer your clients a better rate for clean dictation. I'd take a slightly lower rate of pay to keep from pulling my hair out over dictators from _ _ _ _. :)

Great post! (SM)

I've been trying to take a look at the really big picture lately.  I see almost daily tornadoes ripping our country apart.  Wildfires doing the same thing.  God only knows what we have in store regarding hurricanes this summer, too.

In addition to that, we have, on almost a daily basis, reports of someone at a school, business or courtroom killing innocent people.  We have missing children at an alarming rate.  Crane operators and miners are being killed because there's no longer any push for worker safety, and if anyone tries to sue for negligence over the death of a loved one, THEY become the enemy.  Our bridges are crumbling from beneath us as we attempt to drive across them.  Our children and pets are being poisoned by imported food and toys.  There are more people than ever visiting food banks because they simply can't afford to feed their families any longer.

America today seems to be resembling war-ravaged Iraq more than the healthy, thriving, prospering USA I remember.

I honestly don't blame Indians for wanting a better life for themselves and their families.  Instead, I blame a GOVERNMENT that would permit such personal items as the transcription of medical records to be outsourced to other countries.

A couple years ago, I worked for a company that (thankfully) didn't outsource (to my knowledge, anyway.)

I began to transcribe the note and started giggling because the patient's name was the same name of a politician whose name was being mentioned at the time as possibly running for President in the 2008 election.  I thought, Wow, this person must be teased a lot, but I KNEW this couldn't be the same person because Washington politicians certainly have the best security the USA has to offer, right?

WRONG!  As I progressed through the note, my heart sank when I realized that this patient, indeed, WAS that politician.

I have to wonder how many members of Congress have had their personal medical notes transcribed by someone living in perhaps a less than friendly country.  If there are any, they probably don't even know, and their physicians, as well, probably don't even know.  All these physicians know is they pick up the phone, dictate the note, hang up, and it magically appears in print a short time later.

I was prepared to send mass emails to EACH member of the House and Senate, warning them of what I had just experienced, without divulging the name name or gender of the politician; however, the way their contact emails were set up, if I didn't live in their district, I simply couldn't communicate with them, so I abandoned the effort.

Just as it's recently been discovered that our ports aren't secure, now (along with our borders), almost seven years after 9/11, I wonder how many other lapses of security are present in the USA today.

Outsourcing is okay for some things.  Private medical records isn't one of those things.

Great post!
You are 100% correct. Very brave post!
Great Post!!

It is refreshing to hear someone look at the positives for once.  I, too, have found a company that I am happy with.  I have been with them for almost 3 years now and I am very happy.  I feel I am extremely lucky to have such a great employer.

I always have work, a make a good line rate and I have excellent benefits.  Do I have to stick to a schedule?  YES!!  Do I have my work audited and have to provide quality work? YES!!!  Do I always agree with everything??  NO!!!  Can I support my family and make a decent wage? YES!!!  Do I have to pay for clothes to go out to work?  NO!!!  Do I have to pay for childcare?  NO!!!  Do I have to pay for gas?  NO!!! Most importantly, do I have to put up with the constant drama of working with a bunch of women?  NO!!!!

I feel sometimes people in this profession want to have their cake and eat it too as they are always complaining about sticking to a schedule, QA being too harsh and people hurting their feelings when they do something wrong, etc.  I think we are lucky to have the opportunity to work at home.  We do not have to deal with gas prices and all of the other things that come with working out in the real world.

This is just my opinion.

Great post!

Many companies take the chance to say you're appreciated to their MTs at this time of year.  I work for 2 companies-- One sent a card, one send rather expensive (greater than $50) gift.  It's nice to be thanked for doing a good job.

It's not at all greedy or any other negative adjective unless you're an MT that does little but kvetch, rarely hold up your end, etc.

Keep holding on to the positive and let the negative posters simmer in their own words.

GREAT POST!!! nm

Great post
It actually helped me calm down a bit from the past couple days since I received the email.  I too have not answered the email to jump in and train on VR, but I do feel it is just a matter of time before they contact me directly as I read it as a direct statement that everyone would have to incorporate this into their daily work...and also I have had next to nothing to type since the day that email appeared....so that is my panic.  Has everything gone to VR at TT all of a sudden???  I do 4 different accounts and am only minutes ahead of the dictation for the past 3 days.  This has NEVER happened before.  I too am single and provide for kids, so I absolutely cannot take a pay cut, but I also do not want to make a move to another company either.  So what to do?  And you speech presidents, do not bother by responding and calling me a baby, suck it in, learn it, etc.  I know that I definitely make more money typing, even though I have not done VR.  I have looked at it, and the reports that came up were God-awful.  I mean it.  The only light I am seeing here is maybe a break in the hands that could ward off carpal tunnel.....but living paycheck to paycheck, I would rather have carpal tunnel release and be off work a couple of days than have no future in earning what I am now!  I also am not willing to work any more hours a day than I do now...I just don't know where I would fit them in and still be a hands-on mom...
Great post nm

Great post. And the reason is . .
that people are generally "not nice" is because it is a lot easier to confront someone via phone or the Internet than in person. I bet at least 80% of MTs who do home transcription would not be so quick to judge or "BI*CH" about these big MT companies if they actually had to see their supervisors, bosses, etc., IN PERSON on a day-to-day basis. Ya think? JMO. Something to think about anyway. Of course, same goes for the upper management working for these large companies. Communication goes BOTH ways.
touche and GREAT post...thanks...nm
