I don't think anything is wrong with knowing you are good...

In Reply to: What is wrong with a good MT knowing what she is worth and expecting to be compensated - accordingly? nm Know thy worth.

But saying companies are falling all over themselves for her to work for them - sounds like a job hopper or someone who can't be satisfied for so many companies to be falling all over themselves begging her to work.  She must be applying at plenty of places, huh?  It just had an extremely arrogant tone, that's all.  It doesn't bother me at all that jobs are offered quite readily.  I'm a good MT also and get great audit scores every time.  I love where I work and have no intention of leaving, but if I did apply somewhere else and they were supposed to call me back and didn't I wouldn't start bashing the company.  People are busy, and when you are trying to take care of hundreds of transcriptionists, some things tend to slip your mind.  Get a grip!!

What is wrong with a good MT knowing what she is worth and expecting to be compensated
:l
haha! Good one... no you got it wrong sm
I typed 200 lines an hour easily.........not slow. You sound like a salaried TTS'er or the owner. That's why there are always mixed reviews. The relatives and people with skin in the game post positive information.
Good god - what is wrong with all these MTSO people?
The more accounts of abuse, lies, bait-and-switch, harrassment, intimidation, and other downright skullduggery these outfits pull on their employees, the more obvious it becomes that the MT business as a whole is descending full-tilt back into the Dark Ages. Next will come the floggings and beheadings.
WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! We turn down work because so many hospitals are sm
calling wanting a company that keeps work in the USA. The trend was stronger a few years ago before it all came to light about poor quality, the woman in Pakistan who threatened to post medical records on the web, 911, etc. There are hospitals who look for US-only and they are the MAJORITY not the minority. Definitely seeing the tide turn on offshore from an MTSO perspective, both MTs and customers!!!!!
God forbid the poor poster made a mistake by posting on the wrong board!! Good grief!

Is that the same one from L&H?. Probably, knowing Teresa.

I, too, am interested in knowing more about this.....
TIA
Nothing to do with knowing a specialty...SM

It's the sloppy, lazy dictators we MTs have to pick up the slack for.  If you can't understand it, it doesn't matter how well you know your subject.

i'd be interested in knowing that too
thanks
I'd be interested in knowing, too.
I'm looking for a 2nd job, and it would be nice to find something that would be hitting in between the other job when things are getting really tight.
Not knowing the specifics
I can think of a lot of reasons why, although I'm not involved in any way in this specific circumstance. If the client has become too difficult to work with- impossible turn-around times, dictators with too my individualized preferences, nit-picking (yes, they do it on the hospital end, too), and an unwillingness to pay the requested rate, I can see where it would be just as easy to not renew the contract. If the MTSO knows it has new account(s) coming on or that it has enough work for the staff it has, it could easily let a difficult account go. Much the same way some transcriptionists will take easier accounts that pay less but they can type more, I would assume MTSOs make the same choices.
I would be interested in knowing

I love Emdat

Thanks in advance

if you don't mind not knowing what's around the corner -
and you don't know when you're next assignment is going to be, 1 month, 2 months, etc. then go ahead and apply, but there have been too many negative things about Kforce said, and I should have listened and took note.
Apprecaite knowing this info. Thx. nm

So you will tell a person to join, knowing they won't

knowing the VA health system....
and what they did to me as a military widow and what the VA does to our service men and women,  I would NEVER work for a VA hospital/   Our military whom are in VA hospitals, are the ones who have gone through the Wellbutrin to stop smoking trials etc  -- you will have a patient who one week, his attending is 'Dr. Jones; he goes home and the next week his attending is this one -- also LOTS of ESLs and residents  -- the goverment as a GS position 10 years ago only paid $15k per year  -- hasnt gone up that much.  JMHO
Did you email the company about this? They may have no idea and appreciate knowing what is going on.

Also, knowledge of AAMT BOS, knowing formatting, being able to
transcribe bad/fast/or foreign dictators, your English grammar, spelling, and punctuationk, attention to detail, computer knowlege in many cases...plus just having the ability to test as fully as doing full-on radiology, op, ds, or whatever reports in any specialty...that would take so long orally. As much as I HATE all those test files, it really proves so much more than just a basic knowledge or your ability to look/Google things up.
Knowing that the only time work is slow is during
is wonderful and I will flex my schedule any time to keep my job at Transtech.
Issuing a check knowing that it will bounce,
is a really silly action. This equals to giving the person a tool to go to the police. If they know that the funds are not available, they should issue a post-dated check.
And I sleep well at night, knowing I have provided

do you realize how many companies outsource without the client even knowing?..sm
an extremely high number. Do you think they can get away with this..absolutely. They advertise that the are U.S. based and higher some U.S. MT's and the majority of the work goes overseas. Wake up people, it's called business. It may not be proper, but these large companies are cut throat, particularly the overseas companies. They have struck a gold mine and they know it. Sad part is, they will always find U.S. MTs to keep the company afloat. Without the U.S. MT's busting their rears to produce quality work, these companied would fail. Why can't anyone get this? Ladies (and gentlemen), do not work for any transcription company who outsources work out of the country. Otherwise, this buyout situation will continue, and before you know it, there will be virtually no large U.S. transcription companies left. Unfortunately, we will only have ourselves to blame. Don't be an enabler!
I agree, if you went to work knowing full well that the company paid 7 cpl no spaces
why on Earth did you accept the job?
dont misunderstand me...we didnt work knowing we wouldnt get paid
How stupid would that be? We were paid a month behind. So when the 18th came we expected our check for the previous month. So that would be one paycheck. No one willingly works for free. I know i certainly wouldnt have typed as much as i did for her - taken time away from everything/everyone else - if i KNEW she wasn't going to pay me. Seriously, I hope she rots for what she has put me and my family through. I'm not talking about a couple hundred bucks. I'm talking thousands of dollars. Yep, I'm ticked
My mom was a lab tech, so I grew up knowing about working holidays in the medical field sm

so it is no big deal to me.  I do not have any children, so I have pretty much always volunteered to work the holidays so that others can be with their families.  As someone pointed out, when you work at home for the holiday, you can jump off and on whenever you want, so it does not really feel so much like working.

Sorry that you are unhappy about it, but unfortunately, people still get sick on the holidays, and part of being in the medical profession is accepting that you will work some holidays.

Hope the New Year brings you lots of things to be happy about.

Yes there is! Good pay and good bonuses and good benefits.

Personally, DSG is a good fit for me. Pay is good and on time, sound quality depends on the account
and I like the platform. There is not much weekend work, although sometimes is available.  I get along well with the management, no major complaints.  There is pay incentive once you get over a certain number of lines in a pay period.  I work as an IC, so can't help with benefits, insurance questions, etc.
I'm with them. Good work environment, easy accounts and I'm making really good money. nm

Fairly flexible but they do like a schedule. Insurance is good. Benefits are good in my opinion.

For the past week, work has been a little slower but I think that is common in every company..some days busy and other not.

Does anyone recommend a pretty good company that is good to work for, pay always on time and plenty
of work.  I know that is asking a lot, but just curious?
SO WRONG

You are so wrong in your assumption!  Although she is not with us anymore, the records need to be set straight.  Shannon has over 10 years of medical transcription experience and typed on every account we have at MDI.  You may have thought she didn't transcribe but that was because she was too busy typing on other accounts and doing the job she was hired to do which was to manage ALL of the accounts.  So before you begin to drag Shannon into the line of fire, please do your research.  She was hired to do a job which she did very well and she will be sorely missed.

Wrong, just someone who has to SM
work with people like you and is really tired of listening to the persecution complex.  I'll bet you have the same problems with the job you have now, right?
Wrong again
Actually, it's y'all - for you all.

Ya'll is for you will.

The contraction divides the words.
WRONG!
Before you start cutting people down, why don't you do a little bit of research on your own? Flossie is not QA DIRECTOR. BS is QA Director. Flossie is QA MANAGER. There IS a difference. And she's a DAMN GOOD ONE at that!!!!
Wrong !!!
She is out of town.
Man, you are WAY out there -- WRONG.
If you're working for MQ, you're getting up to $50 a month DSL reimbursement, not $30.

YOU pay to update your computer??? How is that?

You'd be paying your electricity anyway, unless you live so frugally from the stoneage that you don't require electricity. If you're an SE, you can claim part of that on your tax filing -- if you have a designated room for an office. As well, you can claim any rental fees for equipment -- if you're an SE.

It's your job to make sure what you are typing is correct. Asking to be paid for researching what you are responsible for is as idiotic as saying you should be paid to run spellcheck. Geez.

Virtually every part of the demographic screen is filled in and they provide all the search tools for that. On occasion you MIGHT have to type a patient's name in. Get over your bad self.

If you want to be paid for actual time you spend regardless of how productive it is in lines, then you need a job with an hourly pay instead of production. That simply isn't how it is done. You don't like it? Get an hourly job. Don't like that? Get into a different line of work.
That is where you are wrong...
There are a lot of MTs employed at OSi, so where does this "me along with everyone else" come in to place.  Oh, let me guess...you and all the other smart people?  lol!  too funny
Are you ever wrong about anything?

Opinions are always welcome...if they are not shoved down our throats.  You make me choke.

What is wrong with you?
You obviously do not work for MQ and are very rude.
You are wrong
Nothing is paid for if you work out of Amherst MQ other than production time and PTO time. I was directly told that. No exceptions!
You are wrong.
I work for Diskriter and THEY DO pay for downtime.  They have been more than fair with my pay.  Do not post things that are not true, you are WRONG.
Wrong

I have worked as an Editor for a US company. I am not the owner of a MT company. I did an excellent job there and left because I chose to leave for a better opportunity. The US company where I worked had MT's call in sick daily, yet the HR person was constantly receiving emails from them about the possibility of a raise. They complained about not having enough work, yet when they were offered the opportunity to work on another account, they refused. I know that there are many quality US MT's who care about the level of quality of the work they produce. Yet there are many who are lazy and do not care about the quality of their work who constantly call in with excuses about why they can't work their shift. And US MT's (many  of them) are constant job hoppers. MTSO's have a responsibility to provide their clients with a product. If they can't count on you to work your shift, you leave them with little choice.

My experience since working for a company who offshores has been totally opposite. These MT's are eager to work. They are meticulous about the quality of every report they produce. They are eager to improve their skills as an MT. They are all educated. It's amazing that they are able to produce work that rivals yours in quality and most often exceeds it when English is not their native language. You may not want to hear this, but the truth is the truth.

Don't take this the wrong way, but
I found more than 10 spelling and grammar errors in your post, and that didn't even take into consideration the punctuation errors. Granted, this isn't work so nitpicking isn't necessary. However, why should you make as much as the experienced transcriptionists who are doing the more difficult work without errors? I was at the second highest level at S. and was off QA in less than a week. I did ESL all day long and had three different accounts to learn in less than three weeks. I consistently produce 250 lines per hour on one of my accounts without an expander, 350-400 with the expander.

You tell us how fast and accurate you are, but you're not seeing the whole picture. You can either take on a more difficult account to get a higher line rate or start using an expander. Honestly, I wouldn't take on the more difficult account if it was my choice. You're better off typing faster and using the Expander on an easier account to make more money. Don't they offer an incentive plan for lines produced, too?
My bad. I was wrong.
nm
Wrong, wrong, and very wrong.
All three of the first points are incorrect, won't even go into the rest because they're subjective. Please contact a recruiter for accurate information.
Don't get me wrong...they are very...
nice people.  Unfortunately neither the owner nor office people have any MT experience, and all MTs are expected to not need QA.  For a newibe that can make it very difficult.  Without feedback it's impossible to know if you make an error, and you'll never know what your blanks were.  That makes it very difficult to improve when there are never answers . . .
I could be wrong, but
somewhere sometime I read they outsource work to India or they are an Indian company fronting in the US.   I can't seem to find that info right now.
i think actually you are wrong about that
whuzup w/you?
oh, get over it. nothing wrong with it.
lol
