I gave 2 weeks, sister did not

But I absolutely love my super and didn't want to inconvenience her, plus wanted a few weeks to get used to the new job/accounts before financially cutting myself off my Spheris income. We NEVER had to find a replacement if we wanted a day off, but then again I've found so many things vary by super. My sister left 2 weeks ago, got a nasty nasty email from her super. Me, on the other hand, got a concerned phone call and wished well in the future from my super...so they vary a lot! If it helps any, this is my first week of the 2 week notice and it's gone by very fast..and it'll be worth it as I have about 20 hours of PTO sitting there.

Gave my 2 weeks' notice yesterday SM

I was so nervous because I really like the company I'm working for and was afraid they would be upset with me, but they were wonderful.  They said that I was a wonderful Transcriptionist and that they would miss me a lot.  She thanked me for giving them notice.  Even told me about another national that offers benefits as I explained to them that I needed benefits.  I told her I already accepted a position with a company that offers benefits, but I was really touched that she cared enough to recommend other companies to me.  Wow!  How cool is that?

The company I'm leaving pays very well (I am in the middle range and get about 9.75 per line), you are an employee, have until midnight to get your lines done (at least 80 minutes per day), only have to work Monday through Friday and don't have to work holidays.  You work in WordPerfect 5.1.  They have Smartype for DOS as their word expander.  They have direct deposit and provide the computer and foot pedal (no monitor).  The only draw back (for me) was that they do not offer benefits.  I don't know if I am allowed to post their name on this board, but I will ask my supervisor.  If she gives permission, I will post the info as I know that some of you do not need benefits and this probably sounds perfect.

Hope you're all having a great night.

Well after getting tired of sitting and waiting for 2 weeks i just gave up. sm
Told work was coming in January, well I got trained in December so what good does that do me? I didn't sign in, just gave up. It took them 3 weeks to email and ask where have I been? Where do you think? Working for my other employer. After reading them posting jobs on this site day in and out I have no confidence at all in working for them. With all the time they wanted logging in and out, checking seperate web sites for line counts and QC, doesn't seem too friendly to the MT anyhow. Time to move on before I waste my time.
OMG I feel so giddy, just gave my 2 weeks notice at Spheris SM
and feel so liberated! I am totally getting out of MT - tired of being tied to the computer waiting for work to come in! So tired of hearing with this platform or that platform you will earn more. Good luck to all.
I gave notice and was told had to work final weeks in order to be eligible for rehire. Had no
:[
I once gave my notice when I was in a non-MT position, gave

2 weeks, but the person I was supposed to train felt like she knew my job better than I did (although she knew squat) and was a pain to deal with, never on time, etc. so I only worked about a week of my notice before I left and told the person I was supposed to train that since she knew more than I did have at it.  Anyway the owner wouldn't pay me for vacation.  I filed a complaint with the labor board and they were more than happy to get my money for me.

Breitner can threaten all they want to.  If you can document that you are owed monies, if Breitner can't prove that you aren't owed monies the labor board will be glad to collect your money.  I would also file a complaint with the Attorney General .   I have heard several people have had payment issues with them while the still worked for them.  If people are willing to let them get away with it by just chalking it up to experience, then they will continue to try to get away with it.  I'd contact the IRS too.   I don't know what Breitner thinks they can do to you - let them threaten all they want to.  A word of advice - DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT.

Yes, they offer I think 4 weeks at full pay or 8 weeks at half pay. Call the office
and talk to them about it. You wont lose your job. They aren't like that.
You said it sister
Honey..just go get yourself a job in house somewhere so you can get paid by the hour even when the census is low. This happens everywhere this time of year.EVERYWHERE..I'VE been doing this crap for 30 plus years...EVERYWEHRE honey! and dont give me no &_^)* about spelling because off time I don't worry about it
right on, sister!
i think you made excellent points in an intelligent way!

I must say the thing that bothers me is when I see a post that says, Hey, has anyone heard of ______? and in reply, you get anonymous responses like, STAY AWAY! or RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! or HORRIBLE, EVEN WORSE THAN ______!!!!!

What I would prefer to see is Run as fast as you can BECAUSE _________ i.e. didn't pay on time, run out of work every day, all the accounts suck, etc. I think this correlates directly with the points you made. As hard as it is to believe, some people with family obligations, mental health issues, drug and alcohol problems don't always mind if they run out of work an hour or two before their shift is over, especially the people who are manic and did 2000 lines in 3 hours. So those people might be interested in a job that runs out of work, know what I mean?

To me, that is bashing, just where you see THEY SUCK, RUN AWAY!!!! It doesn't address the differences between companies and MTs like you so astutely mention.
You said it sister. There is nothing
It actually makes you more accessible to new accounts.  If people see your face, they know you and will usually spread the word.
Right on sister!
She must have told the truth.
I'm with you, sister, but

there will always be SOMEONE who undercuts or is willing to accept less.  That's why we are in the predicament we are in.  Fortunately for me, I don't do MT FT anymore and am not dependent upon it as an income.

Others will do whatever they have to do to pay the bills.  They haven't come to the realization they can make more at McDonald's versus accepting the insultiningly low pay of 6-7 cpl for an experienced & highly skilled MT.

You said it, sister!!!

Great post.   What's that old saying, the only fear is fear itself?  I haven't had much coffee yet this am, so my brain isn't quite fully functional.

To the OP, I can't speak for MDI, but I do work for Landmark on a clinic account.  They have been great to work for.  Clinic work being what it is, there have been a couple of moments where the work slowed down - around the Christmas Holidays and then about 2 weeks ago when apparently half the staff was out sick.  I had a lot of really hoarse dictators the next week.  I also was able to catch up all my lines over the weekend when two of the docs started catching up on 4 months worth of dictation, so I didn't end up being that short after all.

The people at Landmark have been great and QA is wonderful - really easy to work with.

you go sister
You reminded me to be nice - you are darn right-- you just don't know what may be going on in a person's life and we don't need to add more _rap to it. Great comment.
wasnt this Lee's sister in law?
q
My sister wants to go into transcription.....

Does anybody have any recommendation on a good school --- I don't care to hear the negative - just the good stuff.

Thanks!

Amen sister!...nm

Amen, sister...sm

I hear ya sister

This is a rough profession. Everyone gets so excited when they hear we work from home, but don't know about the difficulty we can have achieving stability and peace of mind!

My sister is an RN and makes sm
She has the associates degree....  She makes $27.50 hr base pay  she has been a nurse for about 3 maybe 4 years.....  hope that helps
Amen sister

You said it.

AMEN SISTER
Totally agree with you. I love Transcend.
AMEN SISTER!!
I am scheduled 7-12 and will probably be hanging around for a couple of jobs here and there since everyone took advantage of the extra $$$$ leaving me with hardly any jobs and those jobs are my secondary LOL
Don't know about your sister, but try it yourself, then comment.

do you do my sister and brother-in-law
really don't know what company it is - she says it is local - they are in Ottumwa.
Amen sister

My sister works there....sm
She absolutely loves the Cornerstone platform, loves it, loves it! It's MT friendly I guess, and she loves it. Yes, I say loves it so much because I think she said it about 50 times in one minute while she was talking about it! lol Once she got used to it, she...you guessed it...loved it. (hehe) :) She said her production is really good on it.
Amen sister - you said it all NM
d
You tell 'em sister....

Cuz I'm just a grinch and have poverty of the soul because I didn't provide comfort and joy as what some perceive to be what the OP wanted.  Pity party is what she wanted and yes at this point I'm beating a dead horse, which is maybe what I'll call myself now.

As for the OP, I guess he got off her a$$ and finally made that call since according to all of the posters that supposedly support her claim she worked 24 hours in one day to get her lines in.  Now that deserves pity!

I stand by what I say, and I mean what I say.  If the OP wanted pats on the back and awwww so sorry, then so be it.  What I said is true when there's no work I don't sit on my a$$ and wait at all hours of the night and day, I look for another job.  Fortunately, I haven't had to do that.

And yes, NY MT is correct in that everyone wants their cake and eat it too. What took the OP so long to make that call and get those back up accounts?  It took for me to shake her up!  But you all got her back now, so she'll be just fine!

Tell 'em sister...

if the money in the paycheck is green, it will spend.

Furthermore, no one knows who off shores or not.  There could be companies that say they do not off shore, but they do.  How would we know?  I say if the pants fit right, keep them on and walk around like you own the place instead of worrying about something that is not in our control.

Furthermore, just because a company advertises no off shore applicants does not necessarily mean they do not off shore.  It just means they also hire US MTs.

AMEN SISTER!!!
:)  Stand up for yourselves!!!  We are not mice!!!  :)
Amen, Sister!!
This whole argument is just beyond ridiculous. I can not believe ANYONE would try to defend this nonsense.

If it was okay, then MTs would not get written up and fired for doing it. Period. End of argument.
My sister worked for them
out of Greenville, Texas. She liked it, they were dependable with work and paychecks.
My sister is an RN and we make just about the same.
I have much more freedom. I make my own schedule and am left alone to do my work in the comfort of my office. She has to deal with the nasty staff and rude doctors. She is constantly getting told she has to do mandatory overtime because someone called in or the census is up and they need the coverage. Of course, they don't tell her until about an hour or two before her shift is up and she is looking forward to going home. Regardless of if she has plans, she has to stay and work and just cancel everything else. This seems to happen at least once a week. I don't know how nurses with families do it. From what I have seen, nursing is not flexible at all when you work at the hospital. She had to work overnights for the first few years and then work her way to evenings and now is at least finally on a day shift. My sister's job makes her extremely stressed and she dreads going to work most days. I had thought about nursing when she first started because I heard about the good wages, but now that I hear what she is going through, no way. I will stick with MT for now. Sometimes a little extra cash isn't worth it (especially because she is only earning a bit more because of all the OT she has to put in).

I'm in your corner, sister MT...
I find the archive search here to be a huge hit-and-miss prospect. Some peope apparently search and are able to find all of the info they want on the first try.

However, I've had several instances where my search on a company I know has been discussed on here and a search will show no info, or either that VERY old info that probably isn't appicable.

I feel your frustration!!!
AMEN SISTER!!!!! nm

Amen sister!
I don't care who says it or when they say it, cutting a person's wage is NOT doing them a big fat favor!  The sky is NOT green and the grass is NOT blue!
Amen, Sister!
It's like any other job in the world, 99% is what YOU make of it. There's good and not so good, but I've worked lots of places that were much worse.
AMEN SISTER/BROTHER!!! nm

I agree.  Whoever is responsible for this crappy platform and at the cost (I believe) of $1 million screwed up royally!!!

Good for your sister. Wish I had tried that back in the 80s. sm
Now I'm spoiled working at home.    It's funny, now that I'm in my 50s, all these new career options come to mind.  I would love to be a veterinarian.  Too late in the game for that.  If only I had known in my teens.  sigh
AMEN MT SISTER SALLY!!

I worked there 2 years before things started going downhill.  You didn't even mention all the India outsourcing they started doing.    I have moved on to MUCH greener pastures.  Thankfully!  Think twice before you go SGS girls!!

Amen, sister, right on the money!...nm

My sister dropped her insurance. sm
It was costing her $350.00 a month for one person. She pays for her office visits in cash and gets a discount because she is under the income level. Same if she goes to the hospital. She gets a poverty discount. I think it is about 20%. Go figure.
They weren't related at all. Her sister-in-law is my lead and is
wonderful. This person was a transcriptionist who took over HR. No one liked her and we thought she must be related to Lee, but she wasn't.
It's been all standby from my office chair, sister. nm

Amen Sister! Hope they are reading this LOL

Amen Sister! Well Said! Huge Applause! :) nm

Sad but legal. My sister's employer charges
All support in our state has to be withheld from the paying parent's paycheck. She has to pay $10 each week for her company to do so.

Sad and unfair.
Amen Sister! You've said everything that needs to be said! Let's move on! nm

You said a mouthful, sister. United we stand,
divided we fall. Right now, we're falling.
