I have decided to keep their pedals

Posted By: Thanks for replies (sm) on 2007-10-10
In Reply to: I was hired by a company 2 months ago. - Wondering what would you do (sm)

until they call me asking for them back (if they even do that). I do not understand how companies like this stay in business. Their loss! Thanks again.

Wav pedals
Could someone explain to me the mystery of the wavpedal?  I have three right here, and none of them work on the same platform - one works for one but not another, and so on.  they all look exactly the same and have no identifiable information printed anywhere on them.  These came from Transcriptiongear.  I would like to unload a couple of these, but have no idea how to advertise them or even tell someone what they are to give them away.  HELP!
No pedals given at SS
SS does not provide pedals. Maybe they used to.
foot pedals
foot pedal used w/ DocQScribe is not compatible w/ Express Scribe. I had to buy new foot pedal for use w/DocQscribe several years ago.
I would keep the pedals for now and move on. If they are too busy sm
to get you set up to work, they are probably too busy to want their pedals returned. At least that way, if you keep them, you will have something for your 2 months of sitting around waiting!
Keep the pedals, get another job. If they want the pedal back,
nm
Infinity makes 99% of the pedals anyway. I used a DVI
pedal when I worked on Chartscript, but I don't work on it with KS.
Me too! Got 3 foot pedals under my desk - lots of fun!!

When did KS stop supplying foot pedals?
I was hired by KS in early September. I was immediately sent an email with attachements of docs that I had to complete and return. I immediately completed it and faxed it back in. I got an email acknowledging that my paperwork had been received.

Six weeks went by without a word from ANYONE. I emailed the person who initially emailed me the pwrk. I also emailed the recruiter. Three days went by without a word from either. Finally, after another week and a few days, I was contacted by the TL and an IT person and a foot pedal was sent.

When you hire people, there is no acceptable reason for weeks to go by without any sort of contact. I hope that you guys have since gotten yourselves together. I quit shortly after being hired.
And yes as long as the different software and foot pedals are compatible. nm

Foot pedals needed for testing with Amphion?
I don't have a foot pedal for my computer.  I have one that went with my transcription machine in the past but I suppose that's a whole different thing.  I want to test for Amphion and I wondered if anybody has taken their test and knows if the pedal was needed?
sounds like SoftScript. I have some of their pedals too. Never wanted them back. Actually, sm
they were sent to me BEFORE I accepted a position from them.
Infinity makes the majority of the foot pedals, so to

ask if an Infinity pedal will work is too general of a question.  Do you need game port, serial port, USB, 9 pin, 15 pin, etc.  They can be configured different ways so just because it is an Infinity doesn't mean it will work.

I use an Infinity pedal but it is specially configured to be compatible with only DVI.

I posted about halfway down this page about foot pedals
and how I get them to work for online tests usually. The heading of the post is foot pedal. Hope it helps.
Not if you search for comments. Also need your own StartStop pedal & the software, but some pedals

I have 3 pedals hooked up under my desk! :) They're not the problem. Software

I have two platforms on mine. I just have to change foot pedals when I switch from one to the other.

Foot pedals don't work with MediaPlayer. Need to import the file into

I have already decided not to
do editing for Transcend it offered.  They only pay half your line rate, I don't think my production will double from what I have heard, people having to put in every other work on VR because it is not picked up.  I have had no problems with the auto correct and did try out an Expander program, Short Hand, their free trial download and it has worked fine, I just don't like Short Hand I think, can't remember all those.  I have had tech problems with copying large blocks, would not do it.  I thought it was me.  Lost a report yesterday over this.  I have not found the work particularly difficult, but the quality of sound is not very good, static.  I will give them a try, but wondering about Beyond TXT.
Thanks, decided to go with KS. nm

Here is what I have decided to do
Just ignore the whole thing, like they do to us. I will just let it sit until they pester me for it or threaten to fire me. They are so unorganized, they will probably forget about it.

I also talked to my attorney, who said the arbitration agreement really would not hold up in a court of law.
Decided against
They ran an ad also about 1-2 weeks ago with a LARGE number of VIEWS.  I downloaded the dictation, looked over the samples and abbreviation and after careful thought, decided no way.  The pay is low, dictation about 5-6 lines each mostly repetitive and would drive me bats even if I COULD make template (too short) I would lose $, dictator too fast and does not care if understood.  I did not follow through, just deleted the files.
not sure what you decided
I currently have worked for Probity full time since October last year. Personally, I have not had any problems. If you are full-time, the benefits aren't that bad - no benefits if you are part-time, which I think sucks! As far as I know, they do pay for spaces, but I may be wrong- never really asked. The manual says We do pay for spaces. Their pay scale depends on how many lines per pay period you transcribe, the lowest being 0.0825 and the highest being .09, which is nice. The thing I really DO NOT like is having to commit to a weekend schedule. Every Saturday or Sunday, you do have a schedule that you have to adhere to. I like the people there and they have been very kind to me. However, I do know of an MT or 2, who don't really care for it. There are ESL docs and yes, some of them are pretty darn tough. Just like any job - unless you are your own boss - there are pros and cons. That is not aviodable. If anyone knows of some place that is perfect, please, fill me in.

As far as I know, they do not outsource and ASR/EMR/VR - whatever you want to call it is not in the near future for this company. That is not to say that it won't happen.

I decided not to take their job offer. (nm)

Well, I've decided we all will get 25 cpl from now on.
Now I'll REALLY be popular!
You're right, but I decided (sm)
to go with what the other poster said about what I am looking for in a job and took it.  I was so frustrated with the software where I was that I just couldn't stand the aggravation anymore.  I just want to do what I do best on software that works.  We haven't been paid what we are worth for about 15 years or so.  What happened?
Yeah I decided not to go with
them after finding out how bad of a place it is to work.  I have 8 years experience so I don't need to work there.  I stopped responding to the email.  Thanks for the info!
Yes, I have decided to stay put myself. sm
too much of a pain to learn yet another computer system and platform. What I did was put the pros and cons of working where I do on paper. The pros far outweighed the cons so I am staying put.
This is rumor. Nothing has been decided yet. sm
We are still getting final numbers from 2 different insurance companies. In the past, we have not qualified for a large group policy at a decent rate because of lack of participation. All of the big insurance companies want 50% of the employees to take the insurance and we did not have that in the past. It does look good this time though. We are hoping that the rates come back low but nothing is definite at this point.
Decided to take the offer
I decided to take the offer. I have had a growing number of differences with MED-Scribe lately, and I am ready for a change. I know someone else who is very happy there, and their opinion differs greatly from the old complaints of 2004 & 2005 that were posted on here. Apparently, the company must have worked the bugs out of their system, as they have some happy employees and ICs there now.
So I decided to thank her HERE since it's gone crazy
/
What you have decided makes a lot of
sense. I was just telling my husband last night about how this line of work has gone down and just thankful that I am nearing most of my work life instead of facing it in the future. I have done ok with this in the past but to make a living and raise a family, just not what 1 can get by on anymore. I think your idea is to be commended.
I've decided to find a new job.
However, everyone seems to want fulltime or Tu-Sa/Su-Th or C-phone.  Is anyone hiring for parttime day shift any more?  I dream of a steady workload, decent platform, honest company, direct deposit, consistent QA, DSL instead of dial-in or dial-up, no need to rent their computer.  Is there such a company out there?
I decided I could start next month....
Still tying up loose ends at current position, hired in Sept.
I had applied but I decided that I did not want to pursue with them because...
The owner or manager had contacted me about testing further etc.. When I work during the day, I do not answer my phones and return the calls when I take breaks. Well, he was quite cornered and bothered that I was so difficult to get a hold of, which I took it as not at my beck and call attitude. Just in my opinion, I felt that there was possibly a control issue and I was married to a control freak and would never go there again.. FOR ANYONE.. but that was just my personal experience.
You decided their transcription must be bad because her headset was? sm
That doesn't make any sense.
maybe they caught on to your attitude and decided against it.
nm
Yep. I decided I'd pass on even talking with her. sm
I'm glad she emailed me the info first so I didn't waste her time or mine.  Everything seems very structured and rigid.  I don't mind working weekends, so I might have been one of the lucky ones who make 10 cpl, and maybe I'm an idiot for taking a pass on it, but something just tells me this is not a good fit.
I got all the emails but I decided to move on
Every time I ask a question here I get my head bit off and that has been by more than one person. I don't need to be treated this way and will check on the other company and maybe work parttime here. Thank you for all your answers. I am going to follow my gut feeling and stop fighting with it.
How is it decided whether you are internet acct or a LD one? NM
nm
BOS not written by God. Just some rules decided
x
Thank you for the offer but I've decided

I just don't have a good feeling about this.  I typed over 5000 lines already and haven't been paid and no communication when I will be paid.  I sent all my personal information, soc. sec #, banking info to a recruiter who now is not answering my emails - this makes me feel very uneasy.  I haven't received your emails, so no I don't think I'm on your team.  The person who trained me said she was my team leader and that's the last I heard from her.

Good luck to you.  I just don't feel comfortable with any of this, and would rather move on now than wait around and get burnt later.  Thanks again.

I decided against it also..made me squirm

Thanks for all the info! I decided to go with another company
although this looked tempting, the pay did not look enough to me (cpl) for a difficult ESL. I could do difficult ESLs and do not mind that but need a higher line rate for that skill. Tempting though it indeed was! Thanks again for your feedback.
No, decided to give myself a raise.
This week I decided that I should be making more money. So I quit dinking around on the internet while I was working and really focused. I also decided to track my hours to make sure I was working close to 8 (I thought I was, but I realize now it was more like 7). This week my production has increased by about 13%. With incentive, that amounts to at least 15% more in my paycheck. Didn't realize I was wasting so much time. Personally, I love working on production for this very reason. My husband, on the other hand, is working more hours and had to take a 15% pay cut recently (he is in management). I truly don't believe the grass is greener on the other side.
I am glad that you decided to post, thanks..nm
nm
Yes, I decided on becoming a cancer registrar!
.
I agree...that is why I finally decided to leave...
when there is work everything is great, but every time works runs out they decide not to answer e-mails, et cetera...and the cycle continues that way...I still have friends that work there and nothing has changed...
I've decided that I'm not going to work for them any longer. sm
I never signed anything that obligated me to the fee. That's the point. I only found out with the direct deposit printout, and I had to then question the expense. I've been an IC for years, and never have I been asked to pay for the use of the software a company installed on my computer. I provide my computer to use, yes, but a company has to supply the software, and no one has ever required a charge for that. I should have been afforded the opportunity at interview to either accept or reject the job based on that requirement. Since the subject of a license fee was never broached during the interview process and the contract did not specify that I would pay for a license fee, I accepted the position based upon the contract terms. As far as they have a right to charge since I am an IC, I feel they have no right that is not specified within the contract boundaries. Am I wrong with this thinking?
Well, I grew up poor and had a really bad marriage and decided (sm)

I was not going to count on anyone else ever.  It is hard at times, and mostly all I do is work, but my work is social for me in a way.  I MT 3 nights a week for the national, the other nights I do my own accounts, teach in the early mornings and late afternoons, go out on sales calls and do customer service in the afternoon.  Take calls all day long on my cell from everybody... that and email are actually the most timeconsuming and most difficult to control.  I have windows of time to check voicemails and emails and I really try to stay in that timeframe.  If I miss a call I get in the next window.  I text my answers back a lot to save on chatting!  Uh, the phone tag game is my biggest problem, actually.

Uh, I didn't mention because it sounds like too much even to me, but actually I am also a personal trainer... I train women for bodybuilding and fitness contests.  At times (right now) that can be the most time consuming depending on the athlete.  A carb-depleted woman training 2 hours a day needs a lot of special care!  I don't always train on site with them, though, I set them up via email or phone and give assignments for the week on their training and diet, andI have workshops on the weekends, or everybody meets at the track for sprint work.  I also am not a clipboard trainer, I am there with them so I get my workouts in.  I also am in training myself.

A lot of my work is seasonal... Sales for the clothing line are a little slow in the summer so I pick up extra work for the national if I need it.  And my national is always a little slow between Christmas and New Years, and both of my offices actually shut down at that time, WHEW!

This seems really out there and all over the place, doesn't it? I have a degrees in English and physical education... my plan was to teach English and PE... but the money here for teachers is terrible and things just worked out this way.  I love all of my jobs... I am pretty active during the day but at night I love to sit down and zone out on my work.  I am divorced with no kids, with a great boyfriend who also has his own business so often we work side by side at night.  I have a huge dog that sits in the back of my 4 runner when I make all my service calls and he is out at the gym and the track with me for training.  At night he is curled up besides me.

How do I do it?  Sometimes I don't know.  But I try to take it one day at a time, try to work as hard as a can and be as decent as I can and I never ever get pinched up (at least I don't show it!)  I try to find humor in everything because sometimes that is the only way to stay sane.

I treat everyone with respect and kindess and like they are very important to me.  Most people I deal with do not know I have other jobs.  When they are in front of me it is all about them and what we are working on together.  I have to turn work away all the time.  I have never had to advertise for any of my businesses.

My friends think I am a freak... but I am 40 years old and have no lines on my face, no gray hair (well there could be some but I am a regular highlighter!) and a body of an Olympic sprinter.  I cannot say it is easy... but like the quote goes I guess if it were easy everybody would be doing it.  Person

Jobs just trickling in here, too. IC's have decided to show up for work! nm

I'm so glad you decided to join us, Jeannal! Welcome to Diskriter!
Glad you're having as good an experience as I've had.
