Does anyone here have a small account - sm

that pays CASH?  (Under-the-table?)  Like for last-minute STAT dictation or something?   Is it possible to get such a sideline job in this field, or would you have to look outside of medical transcription?

How to get a small supplemental account?

I currently have a full-time job with a national, and intend to stay with them, but I really could use a SMALL amount of work to fill in weekends, since my co. doesn't offer overtime except once in a great while.  I don't really want a 4-hour-a-day part-time job, because I already type 8-10 hours a day for the full-time job.  I would probably want to be an IC on the moonlight job.  What do you feel is the best way to look for a small account, such as a local physician's or dentist's office?  If any of you have a small, extra cash account that you do to fill in the gaps your main account leaves, how did you go about getting it?  Any ideas?

$2.50/report own account - .17/line small MTSO

sorry to hear that. I guess it depends on the account
just like anything else. Some hospital accounts use several services, so the quality of drafts will differ from poor to excellent, depending on who works on the account.

Overall, I love the platform and it is very user friendly.
Sorry to hear of any quitting. I am on the "busy" account..
I do like it a lot, but I also worry about overhiring.. and forcing me out of a job that I love..
sometimes you'll hear that there's a new account coming on board ...
sometimes that happens, sometimes it falls through ...

I'm not saying that they absolutely don't care ... but particularly if you are an independent contractor, it genuinely is not their problem.

Either way, the people who are willing to sit and wait for work will stay ... I've been one of them ... not ready to switch companies, need the lines to pay the bills.

I remember when, first of all, work was often backed up (and ALWAYS out of TAT -- the first 7 or so years I did MT) these were hospital accounts being done done by local companies who had history with each other ... The national bought out and underbid the smaller companies and one of their big selling points was TURNAROUND and they agreed to penalties into their contracts ... IMHO, many turnaround times I've heard of are silly -- ER reports and STAT H&Ps/Consults do affect patient care and could justify a 2-4 hour TAT -- most other work types could easily fit a 12-24 hour TAT with the option to flag as STAT.

It was great to be able to work any hour of any day -- now it's much more iffy and harder to make up lines if you have an unexpected down time. JMHO.
Sorry to hear that because that was a good account with great normals. Hope
you find a new home where you will be appreciated and with good line counts!
Anyone that applied with Kathy Kirby hear anything yet? I am wondering how long it takes to hear a
response back
I said MAY NOT hear, didn't say you wouldn't hear. There is
a difference, and many people have said they knew they didn't do well on the tests, but still feel like they should have heard from companies and haven't.
That account in Texas was not a MQ account. They did not use DQS on that account until KS started.
They are moving 3 other accounts to DQS between now and January 1st. I asked. The MQ accounts they have gotten in the past did not go to DQS. I followed my old account, which is how I know, and it was Meditech. The account is still run by KS and is a big account too.
Hear, hear! (Or is it 'here, here?') LOL

Thanks! I'm glad to hear that, I didn't think anyone used it anymore! I'm glad to hear so
I'll definitely check them out!
Repeatedly told another new account would come soon, but it never did. In fact, our slow account is.
everyone else's backup account. What a disorganized mess.
Then when we MT's are **thrown on** an account because of lack of work on our account

What is so hard to understand about that?

Then we have that account info filed away in a folder in our Outlook Express by name of account and can look at past emails sent out regarding that account.  Not fun to be tossed on an account that you have never seen NOR ever received an email on.  Sounds like business to me.

You are wrong about the account. KS dumped the account for several reasons. sm
It happened quickly and was unexpected but it was really for the best. Keystrokes does not string people along or lie to you. After being with MQ for too long, I am happy there, although it is not for everyone.

I really would give them a call as the other poster suggested. That whole situation was a nightmare for everyone including management but the account pulled a fast one on them.

I have the facts on this because I have a good friend at the hospital and what she told me matched what my manager did.

I know that they are trying to give more when so many companies are giving less and taking away more.
What do you consider small or big? nm

NOT everyone, some are too small for

Small MTSO

I am a small MTSO and I have two part timers that work for me.  I try to allow them to make a good living but there are costs of running a business.  I do the pick up and deliveries, I print, I buy the paper, toners, etc.  I do the invoicing.  I do the customer service.  I do the QA, etc.   So when I make 2 to 3 cents a line, that is sometimes barely $5 to $7 an hour after gas, paper, etc.   I keep my line charge reasonable -- 0.11 to 0.12 and that allows me to pay 0.8 cents per line.   But if my gals use their brains to use word expanders, templates, etc. they can make $16 to $24 an hour (200 to 300 lines per hour) which to me is fair.    I pay them on time often first and sometimes wait for the check to come in.    But you guys we do not make a lot when subcontracting out.   But if a document is 400 lines I make $8 to $12 for the report and that is before all my expenses.  So we are not jiving any of you.

Small companies
Please list the names of some small companies. I need to get out of a big national but don't know where to turn. Thanx.
To Small MTSO

No suggestions here except to keep up the great work and appreciation for your team.

I agree, don't waste your time on the ignorant's on this board that think everyone is out to screw the MT...it's a sad fact, but there are some who just have such blackened lenses to see through.  It sounds like you really appreciate your team and there are more employers out there like you, really there are.

OR - sm = small message; nm = no msg NM
nm
oh by the way.....*S* small message...sm

did YOU write the acronym book?  HAHAHAHAHAHA -

Well, I've online over 10 years and on boards/forums and SM means small message versus NM meaning no message versus LM meaning long message.

To each his or her own *S*  It's not etched in blood.....*S*  Hope you have a better 2006.  *S*

Not small, not huge. When I was there it had 350+ MTs.

wow, this is a pretty small

Three small accounts that I do by myself..sm
I do not do any type of billing for the accounts, just do the work like regular work that I download from the company...so I think that would be a good reason for a raise.  But, I don't want to say anything to make them think twice otherwise because these accounts that I have are really good.  Does that make sense?
Must be a small company
It is a small company. Sorry if you're not impressed with my work. It works for me. I could do over 1,000 if I wanted to, but this suits me. I have another part time job that supplies me with income also.
and that is only a small part of the
problems they have. Communication is nil, rude people to deal with, and total chaos.
Small companies not for me

I have worked for both and I think that small companies are very, very particular. Not that that is a bad thing, but  ZERO room for error (everyone knows perfection is impossible 100% of the time).  So if you can QA at 100% every single time with a national, a small company would be perfect for you.  In all of my experience my lowest QA score was a 99.2 with nationals.  Small company just made me feel extremely inadequate.  That is one thing about communication with a small company, you can start feeling attacked for very (and I mean very) minor things.

HTH.

Not MDI-MD - they are a small company

small company
has anyone ever left a national company to work for a small company?  just wondering if its a good choice to make.
small companies
Anyone give out some names of small good companies?
Small national
Try - www.milnertranscriptionservices.com
maybe ... small MTSOs can go either way .. sm
pay small because they are small ... or pay well, and say they appreciate quality work, and joke with you about other MTs they have on their payroll ..... and then you realize they are probably making the same remarks about you behind your back too.
TO: Small MTSO
see above post, it got posted in the wrong spot somehow.
small companies
Sorry about being so vague. I'm looking for smaller national companies - probably 100-200 MTs (?)
Small MTSOs that I know are not

The only reason they use subs is that the client needs more work done than they can physically do themselves.  Most small MTSOs did not start out wanting to be an MTSO at all, but just having their own accounts.  Then there is too much work and they have to use subs.  And most of the line count is forwarded on to the subcontractor, not kept as profit for the MTSO.

I am just such a small MTSO and I make more money when I don't have subs because I can spend my time typing instead of listening to blanks, setting up templates, explaining format, etc., doing payroll, etc.

They do some ASR but a very small percentage, something like less than 10%
of all their work is ASR. I am not sure what the pay for it, as I only do straight transcription.

They do pay shift differentials. I think it's a half cent for second shift and a penny for third shift.

They are wonderful people to work with and for. Everyone I have ever spoken to has treated me well. Even the President of the co. has been wonderful to me and will take my call anytime I need to speak with her (which has only been twice).

I would go for it. I am so glad I did.
Its a small world

I just put in my application this morning at Webmedx.  I had to go to a doctor's appointment and when I got home I had a message from a recruiter there.  I think it is the same recruiter that I talked to 2 years ago with another company.  They said I did not score high enough on the test to sign on with that that particular company.  The person said I did fine actually until I got to the ESL portion and it looked too much like swish cheese.  I wonder what the chances are that they remember that.

A small company usually can't
afford to lose the people they have, so you might want to speak to your manager about this and see what, if anything, can be done. It can be as easy as removing the MT's ability to reject the jobs they don't want to do. Great way to kill morale.
What small service?
are you talking about? How do you know this?
I think there is 1 small rad but there is ER. Schedules....

You set your schedule but you are expected to be there when you say you are.  However, they are great to work around doctor's appointments or other things that may come up.  I have never had an issue not being able to get time off for anything.

As far as QA, they expect you to type what is dictated unless of course it is a gross medical error and then you blank and send to QA.  You do not get dinged for sending work to QA.  You also do not get dinged for punctuation.  They do expect high quality.

What small MTSO we could
apply for work there too
Even small MTSOs?
I know all the bigger companies are moving to SR, but what about small MTSO's?
Are they also moving exclusively to SR? I know of very small MTSOs in my local area that still are picking up and delivering tapes. Not that I want to be in the dark ages, just don't want my pay cut in half to be fixing a garbled mess spit out by the machine! MT's at my company who have already moved to SR are finding they are making a lot less money doing it. They get half the pay, but it does NOT take half the time to do the work!
Unless you have small children SM
at home and really don't want to put them in daycare, PLEASE consider a different field. Transcription is drying up in the US. There is no future in it. Find a career that cannot be outsourced.
we're really small

there's no one in the office on the weekends, or after 5 p.m. anyday for that matter.  fret not, i'm sure they'll get back to you.  VTS is a really small, family owned and operated organization, not a frenzied corporate giant.  good luck to ya, you'd like it here!!

sorry - meant JLG not MDI-MD. I think JLG is small not MDI. sm
I also know that they send work overseas (JLG) but the do not advertise this fact.  Maybe they are not doing well ??
