Got it all figured out!

I think I will be better off getting two physicians to transcribe for than working for a company. All these nationals are making BIG profits off of us. Most of them I am finding do not value their MTs. Any comments fellow MTs?
Thanks, I figured as much.

Figured it out
i know now, the Mountain Region
I figured it out
 now know how it works.
I just figured it out -

I don't know why it did not dawn on me sooner what is happening.  I work on a tiered pay plan - at my top tier I was making darn good money; however, there is never enough work anymore to get there and the supervisors tell me that they have to have extra people to make sure we get the TAT done.  However, I am losing over 5 cpl because I cannot get up there now (due to lack of work, not due to my lack of trying).

I just realized, if we are doing the same amount of work just spread out between more people, they are paying less money per line, but still getting their big bucks - so where is their incentive to keep me happy?  Never mind that I have always busted my butt for them, that they could always call me for stats even when I was not scheduled to work; never mind that I worked weekends when I was a M-F scheduled employee.

The bottom line is, the lines are scarce because doctors are not dictating as much, so they are going to keep as many people busy as they can so they pay out less on their end -

MAKES ME SICK!!!

That's about what I had figured.
When I left one MTSO 4 years ago they were trying to force me into VR with the promise of tripling of my production to offset the 50% cpl reduction.  So, see, it would actually be a raise!  Win-win!  It sounded fishy then when I knew nothing about it, and fishier now that so many people actually have informed opinions.  Thanks for sharing that.
750 lph on VR? I figured it was something like that
The people who go fast on VR are the people like the one who said she did 750 lph. She is familiar with the dictators and perhaps the hospital and therefore is not slowed down by demographic verification, difficult dictators, etc. She perhaps started at the hospital when straight typing and then transitioned to VR. That is not representative of the rest of us.
I figured it would look rather "stupid" with 1 job!
I have to beef it up! Easy read, though!! Oh well. Thanks for the help.
I figured as much which is why I would not apply
for the position.
Figured this out about 3 weeks ago
on a Word document - I know counting program Word is not always accurate -  but figured it would at least be fairly consistent for the document I was counting 3-4 different ways... bottom line was 15.5% reduction if you do not get paid for spaces.
I think i figured it out...at least a big part of it
They overhire and run out. They lose their good MTs to steadier places and can't meet TAT. Then they start the process all over again. I would not be at all surpised if they have lost accounts because there is some serious mismanagement happening. They need some better coordination and scheduling procedures. I left a few months ago and actually have work everyday now. :)
Thanks, searching, I figured that must be why. nm

Have you figured your error out yet?
nm
Well sounds to me that you have figured it out on your own. sm
I think that if you need to be home with your daughter and don't need benefits and your husband is okay with it, take the job. That is not bad money. Hopefully, the drive is not far from where you live. Good luck.
Uh-oh! I figured that was the case

Thank you for the info!    Just not what I was hoping to hear.

Thanks. I figured as much. I have my resume
xx
I haven't quite figured out what to do sm
myself yet. In the same boat as everybody else, but tired of testing, hiring and then the job blows up for some reason. I am ready to just quit and go do something else, although I don't know what!
From what I just figured, I would have made
over the past week by the way this averages out approximately $170 for 1 day, $180 for 2 days and $190 for one day for myself if I were paid that way for VR and straight.
I figured they were growing, hadn't
ever seen them advertise until fairly recently.  Makes sense to me, usually if a company grows they have to hire more workers.  Haven't heard of anyone complaining of not having work.
If I figured on the same document why would this matter?
,,
Figured with research and networking somebody would know.
Of course I don't expect someone to answer me and tell me one specific company who absolutely has the best benefits.  Maybe I should have worded that differently.  I just figured someone would have some suggestions.  Thanks for the advice on the private insurance.  I may just end up doing that because out of three companies that I have spoke with the insurance is expensive and not worth it.
This is too funny! Yes, you've figured me out.

I'm the MTK serial killer.    Lock your doors!  Hide your keyboards!  I'm coming for YOU!

You're overreacting a bit, dontcha think?

Me, too. I figured it cost me about $1k a year to keep sm
it up. I had CE's out the yingyang. I miss going to the physician's lectures, but that's about all. It was a good run for a while.
Yes, and also figured into that is the loss of benes,
sick days, PTO, insurance, etc., that you would get with employee status.
I figured out how to register. Guess they have not tried to contact me at all. NM

first, don't hate on me because I've figured things out... and it really CAN be done...
I work 16-17 hour days. I average about 50.75 an hour for all 4 companies. I also get incentives. I work 6 days a week. I have 2 kids, a husband and 2 dogs. and I make the most of my 1 day a week off. I work hours that nobody wants, accounts everyone hates and I have it in the bag with normals, short cuts and everything else that boosts my productivity. And there you have it. And in spite of the explanation, there will still be people saying bull crap ... fine, say it ... but don't hate someone because they have it put together in a tight package that works for them. I spent 19 years eating crap from horrible companies, etc. I finally got the right mix and I'll work it until it doesn't work anymore
Nevermind, I figured it out mysefl. Thanks again for all the advice.

Figured out why teamleaders like accounts overstaffed.
They get a big bonus for meeting objectives of keeping reports in turn-around time.  What a joke.  We starve and they get fatter.
I think I figured it out. Is this person on the east coast? nm
nm
I should have said click "more". I guess you have figured it out, and you are most welcome.

I figured they were Indian when I saw "transcrbers." I hate that! nm

You can be fired for any reason or no reason at all.
No one HAS to employ you. No one MUST keep you in employment.

As an IC, your unemployment isn't coming from the account of your contracts! It comes from YOUR tax payments!

They did send the reports back to me. I guess I figured they
knew what I was going through and would understand that it would get better. They tell me that the account requested me off. I find that hard to believe as I have never heard of such a thing in 15 years of MT.
Years ago figured 10 words/line at .01 cpl gave us
s
You really need to take a chill pill. I figured you'd be worn out from your rants below. nm

Do any MTSOs hire part-time...I just figured out
that I can make just as much working part-time MT somewhere else than working at Medquist full-time as an MEE (what a joke).  After 3 paychecks of half of what I was making before 7/1/09, that is what it amounts to.  Might as well spend more time with my family, but I only see full-time jobs posted.  Any suggestions would be great so I can have a life again!  Much appreciated!
Still waiting for work, but I figured it out. WMX pays for holidays (sm)
but only IF you get your required lines/hours in.    Of course the work was low over the weekend, but we expected that, and now EVERYONE is making sure they qualify for the holiday pay.  Make sense?
You know, I never actually counted my lines myself, I just always figured my company's line count
Boy was I wrong!  I just went through and totaled all of my lines, then compared them to the line counter, and guess what!  It's wrong!  Can you guess who I work for?  SOFTSCRIPT!!!
They definitely rip you off with your line count. Figured this out long ago and quit long ago
x
Maybe there's a reason for that.
I find it hard to believe that it's just a coincidence that so many people are having so many problems with so many different companies for it to be just the fault of the ones you call complainers. A lot of people really do something about, but it's still a big upheaval in their lives and I don't hold it against them just for looking for someone to share it with.
The reason they are doing this
like the other person said is to be more competitive with the market but what they are actually doing is lining the pockets of the big shots they just hired with the savings they don't have to pay their employees. Goodbye!
The reason I'm asking sm

I just wondered what it would take to make that kind of money per line.

I have close to 20 years experience in acute care and I was not offered even close to that, with only a half cent raise after the 2 week period, which still does not get me to what you are getting.  How many years have you been with them?

Reason for U

Here is a reason, the owner of Omniscribe goes back on her word.  She will tell you one thing, then do another when the mood suites her with no thought to you as an MT whatsoever.  Is that a good reason for ya?  BTW do u work for her?  Why do you need a reason when someone tells you to beware of a company?  Isn't that reason enough?

Exactly!! And that is the reason
work is being offshored!! People crazy enough to accept something ridiculous as 4 cpl!!
Some MTs will try to think of any reason why they just are
not hired. They totally overlook the actual problem, that being themselves! I guess they need an excuse so why not make up something called a black list? That's as good a reason as any to deny that you just lack the qualifications of some companies or just are not a good MT.

Any reason...
Yes, I believe you're right there. It is always easier to blame the other guy than to be accountable for our own shortcomings. The reality is that there ARE some good companies out there, not all are bad, and yet it seems they all take the heat with things like this. I find that unfortunate and would hope that any recruiter of those good companies would weed those folks out in the interview process.
For what reason?
Have you not returned equipment?  Do you still have a foot pedal, computer, etc.?  What else in the world would there be to bother you about?
This is the reason why (m)
it's impossible to get any real info here. You can't be honest unless you have only good things to say. I also would not be shocked to learn that people from the companies themselves post some of these questions just to see what kind of responses they get, then axe the people who respond in a way they don't like.
Because there's no reason..sm
..for the OP to want/need to know anything personal about us, let alone our SO.  And it doesn't matter why WE decided to get into the field.  Everybody has their own reasons, the way I see it, and why I went into it or why you went into it may be different than why he/she goes into it, so what difference does it make really.  That was the way I took it.  Seems very personal, just in terms of the asking about your SO part and the benefits.  I tend to think it's MTSOs trying to find out info on us and why maybe they don't need to offer us benefits.  Just being paranoid maybe, but you never can be too cautious these days.
Yup....that's the reason I went with them! (nm)

The reason I am an MT- sm

I have done this for 25+ years.  If I was choosing a career at this point, I don't know if I would choose MT - it has changed drastically in my lifetime.  However, I would like to tell you why it is chosen and why we do continue.

When I first started doing this, I had no clue regarding the enormous amount of information I would be required to learn.  I did not know that it would be an ongoing and never-ending process of learning.  I just thought it would be cool to type medical reports and wondered how hard it could be to listen to someone talk and type what they said!  When I started getting a clue it became a challenge.  I was already hooked, learning new things every day, feeling important because I had doctors talking into my ears, and knowing things about health/medicine that I had not known before.  After a few years of striving to learn medical terminolog and hours and of hours of research in books and online trying to make sense of what I was hearing, I decided I had invested too much time/effort to do anything else.

For every medical report that is typed, someone behind the keys has had to learn terminology, lab values, physiology, anatomy, medications, proper style/grammar, and do it all quickly.

It is not the companies or the nickel/dime antics they play that keep us doing this.  It is a geniune love for what we do - at least for me.  I don't feel superior because of the knowlege I have gained over 25 years; however, I have worked hard to learn the things that make me a good medical transcriptionist.  I am happy with my job/life because I choose to be.  I could complain about the companies, MTSOs, etc., but I have worked at other jobs and had complaints.  If it was not a job, I would not get a paycheck.

I love the field.  I enjoy typing medical reports.  I enjoy the research.  I am good at what I do.  By the way, if you ever find yourself on the receiving end of our work (in a hospital bed), think of your chart as the medical transcriptionist's gift to you - hopefully it will be typed by an experienced MT who stayed in the profession and knows how to do it right.
