I seriously doubt they are the 3rd largest. Maybe on another planet?

In Reply to: Cymed Benefits Package for New Year - disappointed MT

We know pretty much who the largest companies are. I think the best benefits I have seen have been with TransHealth.  They are reasonable and they have really good healthcare insurance as well as dental and vision.  Most companies just do not care about the benefits for their people.

As in largest - largest number of MT's -- what is the order of the

Is the Q still the largest ? Is Spheris next ?

Does anyone have a feel on this subject of late?

What planet are you on? Put your name on here so the OSI hen-house
among each other?  Sorry, but you need a reality check.
They do? They were the meanest people on the planet!
First off they kept mailing me really nasty QA "corrections" that didn't even have my ID number on them. They belonged to someone else. Some of the messages written on them were, "What are you -stupid?" "I've told you this a thousand times."

I called and said these weren't even my reports and to let me speak to the QA person who keeps sending them to me and they said it "was not their policy" to let me know who does corrections.

Okay, whatever.

So for about another month I keep getting this other MT's corrections in my mail.

Then my work flow stopped. No explanation why except that I need to brush up on my transcription. Again I told them to check the MT ID number on the reports that they were sending me with nasty notes on them because they were not mine but they kept sending them regardless.

So I finally got sick of everything I said falling on deaf ears and quit. They promised to pay shipment for their equipment. I got charged by FedEx because LG at MQ Monrovia refused to accept the charges for the shipment, but she did accept the package. It's been on my credit report for 3 years now. I never got reimbursed for the payment either nor was it ever applied to my Fed Ex account. They said to take it up with MQ. You know how that goes.

Then for the next 6 months after I quit I get calls from MQ Monrovia informing me of their fabulous weekend bonus and asking if I would like to work Saturday and Sunday.

These people ROCK?

Not in my world, baby.
Not the worst account on the planet

Sorry I have dibs on working on the worst accounts on the planet and TT doesn't have any of them.  One of THE worst was in Washington DC. Talk about a melting pot... none of the ESLs even spoke the same language.  That was followed closely by hospital(S) in South Florida.  One advantage to the bad accounts is that once you master them you can do anything and you will never run out of work.  As for job hunting, you won't have to hunt a job either, jobs will come hunting you.

Sorry you left TT because of a bad account.  I find it hard to believe they wouldn't have worked with you to find something that suited you.    TT may not be for everyone, especially if you require a lot of hand-holding.  You can't beat it if you just want to have work to do and be left alone to do it.

Who are the largest? Top Ten? nm
nm
Q is largest with Spheris second.
Q has over 7000 MTs/MEs/QA. Spheris has around 3800 to 4000.

Largest Nationals?
What would you say the top 5 largest national companies are?  Thanks!!
Administrator...I have text set for largest, but

...have to keep the settings in control panel as is for my job.  The text is awfully small.  Would there be any other way to enlarge it, or do I have to make-do?

I love the site and the changes, too, just find it rather small.  Unfortunately, on my end, I can not change any other settings, and the +/- does not work for me, either.

Yes - it's the 2nd largest national, begins with S. :) NM

3rd largest DOMESTIC employer
Besides MedQ and Spheris, who else has 750 domestic MTs?  And to answer your question before you ask; yes, CyMed really does have that many.  I work in the corporate office and they've been stuffing envelopes for employee Christmas cards and gifts all week.  (Finally getting them out the door on Monday.)
I know that MQ and Spheris are the two largest companies. Who are the next ones in the top 10? nm

zzzzzzzzzz

The largest number of complaints (sm)
about companies that I see on this board are for two reasons: 1) Companies that routinely overhire and make everyone fight for adequate work but still insist on line/hour quotas being met; and 2) Companies that don't communicate well -- recruiters that are more focused on selling their particular service than listening to make certain there will be a good fit between service and MTs and supervisors who are quick to send emails to criticize an MT but are frustratingly unavailable when the work volume is low or when MTs have problems that need addressed.
SPi acquires Cymed - becomes 3rd largest Co.
The talk doing the rounds is almost official. At least one senior executive had confirmed the deal. Further details awaited.
I read that Transcend was the third largest
How could Keystrokes be that big? From what I heard Keystrokes is still midsize. I would say there are plenty larger than them. Also Transcend has several divisions, which I do not believe is similar to Keystrokes at all.
Sorry, but not according to one of the largest financial insitutions in this country.
They totally disagree with what you say. I have talked to them in depth
silly wabbit, take a look at the CEOs of the largest
The MT industry IS male- dominated. The ICs and small mom-and-pop MTSOs may still be predominately women, but when the higher echelon of the larger companies are in fact males...well, you just don't come off sounding like you have it all together. Additionally, most of those male-dominated large MTSOs have sunk huge amounts of money in offshore facilities/employees. Our government has made it lucrative NOT to do business in the US.

About this work stoppage thing and organization efforts you advocate, you must not be well read in MT circles on the 'net. There have been some serious people making serious efforts to organize the MT industry and time and time, these efforts fail. The biggest reason for this failure are anonymous message boards like these (no offense to the board owner/administrators) because people don't want to put their name behind what they say, don't want stand up for what they say. There are too many people who simply want to keep their jobs. I DO believe that if the US MTs collectively stopped working for a week, services WILL find alternatives and there will be loss of jobs. Remember the air traffic controllers? Best example I can offer.

I could go on but I got weary from reading your post as I have seen it time and time again, and unless you personally are willing to stand up and organize it, why are you stirring the pot?

Milton's Red Stapler
Wow, Will that then make Spheris the largest company?
nm
My husband works for one of the largest corporations in the U.S. (not MT). sm
They are paid on the 1st and 15th and his will not post until Monday. They were told that it depends on the clearing house in their region, that their bank sends it any day, even if a Sunday, but if that middleman, so to speak, is closed, it will not go until the next day. Same with holidays.

What are top 5 companies size-wise? MQ still largest? nm
,,
Sorry, but I used to work at one of the largest financial institutions in this country.
Thank you very much. Unless you have proof in your hand that the deposit was supposed to go in on a certain date, DO NOT go writing checks and spending money without that proof because stuff happens.
You mentioned smaller companies, but MQ is the largest, so do you think thousands will be let go?

Diskriter - Working for the largest hospital system in FL.
The benefits look fabulous! Strict schedule? Good PTO?

Thx!
I think the 2 largest companies that do not offshore are Webmedx and Keystrokes. sm
Webmedx is in the $25m range with 750 employees and Keystrokes in the $20m range with 600 employees.

I am not sure about SoftScript or Transtech but I do not think they are bigger than those two.

I know that both have goals to be in the same size range as Spheris. I worked for Spheris in management for a while before coming to my senses and both companies were discussed frequently.

I just hope that MQ or Accusis does not buy either of them. The rumor is that neither will even think of selling but $$$ talks and MQ still seems to have plenty even after losing the lawsuits AND after having a negative income for several years. Not sure how or why, but their pockets are deep, as are those at Accusis.

Thoughts?
Allscripts - Just found out that one of the divisions for one of my largest accounts has started
to use Allscripts instead of dictating with my service. I believe it's just a matter of time before the rest of the divisions follow suit....this can't be good!
They are a mom and pop. I doubt they could buy anyone.
nm
I doubt SEs will be out with MQ.
I think they probably get very excellent coverage from SEs because there isn't the same schedule/time limitations and therefore SEs feel more free to work as they can.

I'm an SE and I truly hope it doesn't change much for me but, if it does, I will just have to re-evaluate and decide if I want to make that change.

I think SEs may see a changes in the form of base pay rates, shift differentials, etc., all the pay issues but no re-classification as it seems is coming for PT and FT employees. They will probably offer a very attractive employee package for SEs for those who were walking the line about SE vs Employee status.

We will see, I guess.
it could be but I doubt it
Geesh!
I seriously doubt that!
Gimme a break.
Still around. I seriously doubt they are down to
one account.   Still have the same number of MTs and I have plenty of work.
JLG, without a doubt.
Best co I have ever had the pleasure of working for.
I doubt it but you could ask. NM

doubt it -

Ad posted twice with different wording, same number. Both have since disappeared from board.  Assumed target was an Indian gentleman. He was very emphatic that it was a scam and did not seem puzzled, so all in all, pieces fit more likely with a trick rather than an accident.

No doubt
That's true. I have had almost 2 solid days of this woman! It's literally driving me crazy. It seems the longer I listen to her the less I hear what she is saying. :(
I really doubt it
I don't know how big those companies are, but MQ is such a giant company it would take a lot of companies merging together to pass them in size.
I seriously doubt (sm)

they would let you go if there is no work and you can't make production.  Methinks there must be more to it than that.

Why do you doubt it?
Have you actually worked for Transcend or are you just a doubter?  Management is not stupid.  They know that without the MTs there would be no company and no profit.  Did you have a bad experience you would like to share?
Doubt you could either

impossible to make- cutting out headers, footers, various hidden tokens, etc etc. Does anybody find it funny that the two main companies that are talked about here constantly are TT and KS?  Are there any other companies out there that don't go round and round with the same nonsense all the time?

I doubt it, since... SM
the companies I've worked for only paid an extra $0.0025 (quarter cent) per line for being a CMT.

I wonder if that employer knows that CMT fees & AHDI dues go to fund the special Indian Rate that AHDI and Prometric came up with.
MDI without doubt
I have worked for companies large and small but I have never been treated with such kindness and professionalism as I am at MDI. They have an extremely high standard and are very choosy about whom they hire. They produce quality work. Their tech support is second to none. The QA people are all extremely intelligent and above all, kind. I have worked for the good (MDI) the bad (a large national whichI will not name) and the ugly (smaller MTSOs that could not seem to get their act together for whatever reason). Without a doubt, I would recommend MDI.
I can tell you without a doubt
The person posting that is not from this country. Read it again. You can see from the word usage. They shouldn't be on this board, anyway.
No doubt about it - It has to be ...

a recruiter. I work for Transcend, when there is work. Third day in a row and there is no work. And talking to someone about it - that's a joke, and a bad one at that.

Anyone thinking that first message is legit, keep on looking.  They will tell you there is plenty of work, great accounts, great benefits but the truth is there is no work, you may initially have a  decent account but plan on them changing you over to another account that is not so great and as far as benefits, there is a good chance you won't meet the minimum requirements because there is no work to be done.

When in doubt, try the No you, No you
So what happened to all that maturity of yours?
On VR I doubt you will be able to
double your lines. I have been doing VR now for several years and it is extremely hard to double ones lines. I might have done it once in 4 years, not easy although I am told by my company SOME are able to do.
I doubt it.
I seriously doubt they have sent work to India. My accounts are seriously low, but I really think it is a combination of the VR and probably overhiring. I am sure we will get an e-mail in the very near future addressing our concerns. Just hope we can all hang in there. Of all the posters on this board, MDI employees seem to be the most cordial to each other, which is rare. I wish the best to everyone at MDI.
Oh, I have no doubt
they can prove I posted.  The problem is I didn't post anything that could remotely be construed as defation or libel.
no doubt
they DO have much to prove. I am still very skeptical too. We each have to make the decision that is right for ourself, without tearing one another down. However, do I want to cut off my nose to spite my face? Maybe I choose to go with a smaller company, and they sell out, fold, or just have sorry management etc. I am deciding to TRY and see if they in fact do what they say they will, as far as flexibility, trying to work with our preferences and such. I am opting to go with a company that can likely (though nothing is certain)survive this market, provide me with ample work, keep me in the same accounts, pay me decently, etc, etc. Only time will tell. I can stand on my principals all day long, and then not be able to pay the bills. I am the sole breadwinner in my household and have grown children that may need help too, if their livelihoods go south. If you can stand by your principals and do well, bless your heart, and more power to you. I still HAVE my principals and will fight for them in the courts/legislature. I would lay down my life for spiritual principals, but am not willing to lose my hiney for market ideals.
That is what I will have to do. No doubt about it. May I ask who you work for that is getting the

accounts.

I doubt that. As long as you are 100% QA
all that means is that all your reports go to QA instead of directly to the client.

As an SE, they cannot make you work certain hours. I've been an SE for quite a while with MQ. When I first started I gave a "proposed" schedule to them but never have reissued that schedule. I work when I want to. If I'm going to be gone and not type a day or 2, I let my sup know. So far, knock on wood, I haven't run into any problems.

As long as I make the minimum line count per payperiod, they leave me alone.
Unless you are retirement age now, I doubt your
hee..hee
i doubt there is such a list,
at least that is all-inclusive, but you could make your own, starting with the job board.
