You can download a free 30 day trial and KS may

be able to give you a license # so you don't need to purchase it.

I don't know if you can convert Meditech, but you can convert other Expanders to be used in ShortHand.

You can download a free trial version of (sm)
Slycount.  I have used it for a long time and find that it is very accurate.
Where can you get this free trial? nm

Download Crap Cleaner free
Great program and has uninstall program for free. Make sure you uncheck the MS Word box cleaner or it will get rid of your normal settings. Otherwise, best free program ever.

Anybody know of any good line counting software that is free to download?

If you have an Infinity pedal, you can pull the files in thru Express Scribe, (free download) and

Not yet, but they are starting a trial soon, if they

haven't already with one account and if that works out then the other accounts will be transitioned to it.  They call it something else, but it is basically VR.  They are going to pay us hourly (do an average of our pay for 6 months to get a good rate) for a while until we can get up to speed and then we will go back to a line rate.  I have not heard anything about what line rates will be like.

If you apply do it through their website.

When I tested I downloaded a trial
version of Word 2007. When I worked as Spheris they had a proprietary platform so I didn't need Word. My personal PC had MS Works which didn't work to test with, so I downloaded a trial version of Word 2007 which worked to fill out the applications and to test with. I figured if I was hired for a job that needed Word 2003 or above (as many of do), then I'd buy it. As it turns out, I was hired at another company who also uses their on proprietary software/platform so I don't need Word. I had used an earlier version of Word for jobs I had back between 1998-2000. Hope this helps.
Free enterprise. You are free to re-educate and retrain, as well!!!!
What's the complaint?!

Cool! I just dowloaded the trial version, and it's

I recently downloaded a trial of spyware and it turns off ITV when IT is trying to access it.
Don't know if that may be your problem or not, but that is the only time I have had it happen. It alwasy links to IE and I haven't figured out how to stop that. Wish I could.

Free sure. There are free on-line fax

services, in fact I used one last week.   Most do have limits on how often you can use and how many pages though.  You obviously would have to scan pages into a document, but maybe she doesn't have a scanner either.

She could have mailed paperwork back.

DQS Download - sm
From what I understand, we are to just log in and it will prompt us to download the update....so just follow the instructions.
Download the Demos first and try them out...

They download 1 job at a time.

I have dial up, you download? how
Where are you downloading from and to where, hardrive.  I would like to do this also, as I don't have to can get DSL . Can reply here or email.
Thank you for responding! Do we buy it or download it?
dd
They use Chartscript and DVI to download
work.  You can work in Word or WP5.1, at least for now.
if from PCshorthand.com, should be okay to download.
nm
KS uses Shorthand. You can download
a free trial from their website and KS may give you a license key so you don't have to pay for it.  Meditech is horrible, but I typed in Word and then copy/pasted into MediTech.  I know lots of MTs who do the same thing.
What do ya'll think about that download
Now my computer is acting funny.
I'm sorry, but I usually download 3 jobs to start, then...sm
as I complete one, another one begins to download, so essentially I have 3 jobs downloaded most of the time, except for right now, which I have NONE!!!
Tried to e-mail but it bounced. You download from
a secure site, usually via an FTP site that your company has setup.  You download to a folder on your hard drive, the same as if you were downloading music or a program.  You then use a foot pedal connected to your computer that is compatible with the software program to play the files.  There are still lots of companies who for some reason have not converted to digital files though, or require you to be type into their system live.
usually, for the online tests, you can download...
the voice file into a file on your computer, then download into Express Scribe player (free online), so you can use your foot pedal instead of the keyboard.
Using FTP download/upload Transfer (sm)
If a company uses FTP download/upload transfer method does that pretty much mean whatever is downloaded to you it has to be done at the end of the day and if you desire extra work you have to ask for it to be downloaded?  I prefer to sign on and get work without having to call the office and ask.  Would appreciate any info.
That would be when you first log on, after that they download while typing. No wait.
nm
Not really...I know you can download Emdat off the internet sm
(just Google it) but I don't think you can get in without a password. I've never used it and I have only worked at MQ, also. I'm a little discouraged, as I am very anxious to move away from MQ and haven't heard anything. How much experience do you have?

I AM happy for you, though. It has to be better than the Q right now.
You can uninstall SP3 and then block the download sm

The removal part is under the same section of the control panel where you uninstall programs. I think you have to click something at the top that says to show updates, then scroll through to find the update. I could not connect to the VPN my company uses when I downloaded SP3 and had to uninstall it. I also downloaded a tool from Microsoft that blocks the auto-update feature for SP3 for a year. If MS is offering a tool to block it, then you know there have to be problems with it. Here's the link if anyone wants it.

I did download express scribe but sm
I may be doing something wrong. I can't open this file in anything but windows media and it goes directly to windows media. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

BTW, why did you leave and do they pay on time?

Thanks
Download the latest version of
Adobe Reader 9.1, it's free.
If the questionnaire you have to fill out, is given by the company, ask them what's wrong.
you can download typewriter/keyboard sm
sounds for free from the internet. I had to do that because it also helps me by hearing the typos. You can turn the sounds of the keyboard up or down but it doesn't affect the sound of your dictator. I think its called Sound Pilot.
The download speed is not consistent, can be as slow as

dial-up at times.  I had it for a year so I know.   Satellite is also not secure, so if company is 100% compliant with HIPAA satellite would not be allowed.

I had lots of problems with my satellite, though I was never without for more than a day.  Customer service was the absolute pits.  They have since updated some of their equipment that is suppposed to eliminate some of the issues.

Can you download Express Scribe and play the file thru there? nm
s
Are there any companies that I would download voice files and then send back but would be able to
transcribe on the move so I can travel but not use all my vacation time?  I wish I had paid attention earlier this year..but I didn't know I'd ever be in the position to need to do this.
It was a test for a company and I have no clue if you had to download drivers. I would not care to
do that to take a test.
I have dial-up and make money. I download my work and I can start transcribing

as soon as the first report has downloaded.  Once I download I disconnect, do my work, then connect and send my completed work.   I usually start my download in the morning then go take my shower, feed all the animals, grab myself something to drink and I'm ready to go.   Once the work is downloaded what type of connection you have doesn't matter.

Sure it is safe to post your resume on the net, provided it is a reputable site.  I would not just post it anywhere, but post it on the job boards here and other reputable sites.   Most sites have some type of safeguards in place so that you have to have registered with the site and/or paid a usage fee to view information like addresses and phone numbers, so that not just anyone can view the information.

Another option may be an account that has C-phone or similar accounts, where you aren't downloading, but dialing directly into the system.

Yes, it is free.
They told me that I would get a discount with steadman's and Dell, but they never said that I would have to buy anything. The only thing they said was that I would have to provide the home type of equipment (i.e. Internet, computer, foot pedal, and software for listening to the files. I received the same things you mentioned above too.
The only one I know of that is free
is Emmaus' MedCount . . . they have a link to this site and advertise here, and the company offers other software programs for sale that are designed for transcriptionists, but the line counting software is downloadable and free.
Here's the web site: http://www.mpword.com

I was unable to use the free program above . . . I had used it before, but on the computer I bought last summer, for some reason it would not work, so I purchased The Abacus.

I have seen a couple of times people posting about The Abacus being a free program, but I had to pay for it. Seems like they may offer a free trial for a certain period of time or number of usages, with limitations during the trial, but then if you do want the program you pay and they give you a code that enables the full program.

The web address for The Abacus is: http://www.theabacus.biz/theAbacus.htm

FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST!

Buh bye OSI!!!

I will miss all the good MT's there but at least I will be getting paid for holidays from now on.  Maybe, just maybe the good MT's still there will be right behind me.  Or maybe not, and you can enjoy your little mug of candy for Christmas.

Yes!  Yes!    Yes!  Yes!

I think most use it because it is free and can
be used w/o a pedal if you had to.  I have used their tests with other software though.  I've never had trouble downloading files, you can right click and save to a file.   I think they companies have always provided instructions on how to save the files too.
No 1 MAKES ME do anything. Have free

All 40,000 others are free to post as often as they like also.

Is Turbo Tax free? (sm)
WebMedX has a list of required reference books you have to get.  I'm sure I spent at least $100-$150 on them.  I ordered them from amazon, so the receipt should be easy enough to get.

The debate is whether to do my taxes myself or go to H&R Block.  The last couple years I had someone else do my taxes 'cuz I had a part-time IC job and deducted my phone line charges.

Hell, I could probably deduct my DSL bill this year, I suppose...
the free one does not count
,
Testing isn't free either

It costs us 10.00 for every applicant we test online.  Out of 50 people I might refer who look promising, about 80% will get to the actual transcription part and say I couldn't finish, it wouldn't let me when the actual qualified people have no trouble whatsoever.

How many of you get the emails with the cover information not spellchecked?  I get them that say I am very qulity conscience.  I got one from a lady who worked in the surgical stockroom of a hospital and was furious when I told her that didn't qualify her to be an MT.  I had a welder who wanted something different,  several from people claiming to be med students or doctors, one dentist in an extremely remote part of Alaska.   I get stories of I have children and I'm about to be evicted and I quit my job.   I get my hospital went bankrupt and closed (yet the phone number still works).   I can advertise for ops and get people asking for an ER account.  I needed an Editor for a particular work type and had a lady apply who said she had 18 years experience so I let her try to edit a document.  I would have had to hire somebody else just to edit her work!!!  It really makes it hard for the experienced people because it's like we've heard it ALL...so you don't know who is good and who isn't!!!

Do you know what the right of free speech is?
It does not apply to private company matters, etc.

Geez.

Well, when you're free of them, please
.
working for free?....don't think so. sm
Look, it all comes down to getting paid. Doing their work for free isn't doig yourself a favor, just them. What did the contract agreement say that you signed? I would fax that portion back over to her and give her a date you expect to be paid. Losing invoices? More than one? Come on girl, this is a big red flag to me.
Don't you work for free?
I'd be nice to you too if you were making me all that money for a little info that you should have got in school.
