I was offered a job with MDI a year ago before I was hired at Keystrokes - SM

Posted By: KSMT2 on 2008-01-21
In Reply to: Has anyone left MDI-MD for another company and.. sm - need to work

They told me that I probably wouldn't want to leave my other job as I probably wouldn't have enough work, and that the account they would put me on was VERY heavy ESL and needed unlimited long distance. That was a big turn off for me! I then accepted a position with Keystrokes right after that, and a year later I'm still glad that I did!

They hired me for night shift and offered 8 and 4!
With 5 years experience.
I went through this last year. I was offered

a position and accepted, an acute care account doing all Ops.  My company was having issues and I thought I needed to make a change, but I was scared of a change.  I had been at the company 5 years, had easy platform, easy lines, comfortable with my dictators, plenty of work, etc.....   I called the next day and told them I decided to stay where I was.

Fast forward 6 months and my company lost my account, which was major one and not enough work to go around, plus the company had been telling us lies and were very unethical when all details became known.  At this time I had no choice but to make a change.  I did not contact KS, but went with another company.

It has been a bit of a struggle having to learn all the new stuff.

My thoughts are if you were happy where you were you wouldn't have been looking in the first place.   You either have to accept the difficult situation at current position or make the change where things will be rough for a couple of months, but you might be better in the long run.

I know how hard it can be having recently gone through it.

I was offered a job there last year...
and they offered me .85 per 65-character line, but it was not in the field I type in, so I turned it down.  They were very nice to me and always called when they said they would.  There was a minimum of 1,000 lines per day/5,000 a week when I looked into it last year, I don't know if that has changed any.  And then there is an incentive schedule for more lines, I think they increase your pay by .01 cent and so forth for up to 2,000 lines per day.  They pay twice a month, direct deposit.  They do deduct for transcribed errors/error values.  I can't remember the platform they use...I know it is one I have not used before.  I hope this helps.  Good luck with them!
I was offered 9 cpl, but that was about a year ago and
I've heard they're really going downhill since then.
I was offered a position about a year ago
and did not take it as you had to be on call every third week at night with a pager for stats.
I applied last year, was hired, and then
the recruiter had a family emergency and I never heard from her again. I got tired of leaving messages for her. Looks like this is the norm for this company.
They hired me last year for ops on Meditech.
change me to anything else. I absolutely disliked the Meditech magic. They tried to accommodate me best as possible, but I had another job too, and I could not do both because the Meditech was so clunky and I had to wait for work a lot. I left. After that, I tried to get rehired by Keystrokes for something else, but was put on the No Rehire list. So, if you want another type of software, be careful about how you approach the switch if you want to stay. I did go to Transcend for my main job along with my IC job and all in all it is okay. My account is US MTs but it is almost 100% ESL and because I am experienced I seem to get the worst of the bunch. Some days it gets me sad, but when I go to the store and see how much food and clothing costs for the family, I don't have a choice but to count my blessings that I have the talent and the job to do it. I just have to learn patience b/c some days it just gets to me!
I was offered 8 cpl last year, experienced. Didn't take it. nm
s
I was offered less than 7cpl this year with 10+ yrs experience.

I just got hired too!! I had sent 3 resumes over a 3 year period and
gave it a 4th shot last week. I guess this time I got their attention because I told them how long I had wanted to work there and that I had tried multiple times. Needless to say I am very excited. I sure hope it works out, that I like my account and platform, etc. The only down side is working every weekend. However, I have come to the conclusion after this interview that I don't care anymore. I just want to stay put and be happy. I have been frustrated since 2006 when the company I worked for could no longer keep me busy enough. I have been trying off and on ever since and have gotten to the point of wondering if it was ever going to be possible to find a good employee position. I know I could as an IC but just not an option right now. I would spend several days researching companies, sending resumes to ones that seemed good, and then be brain dead the rest of the evening. I would get called by companies only to find out their line rate was degrading, or had a horrible platform, horrible accounts. It was always a disappointment somehow. Then there was this one company who blew me away with how disorganized they were. I don't know why anyone would want to work for them. I won't say who I am talking about but it is one of the larger ones. I gave them a chance 3 times because they had ExText accounts but finally gave up with the lack or miscommunication; it was ridiculous. So then I would end up being back where I started, nothing!

I want to know if any MTs out there have gone or are going through the same thing. I just want to stay somewhere for good and never leave until I retire on the beach that is :D I am anxious to get started because I so much want this to be it!!

Would love to hear from any current MDI MTs if they are happy.
I have 12- hour window and was hired 1 year ago. nm

I asked when I was hired over a year ago if I could use my computer....sm
And was told no; we have to use company-provided equipment. You pay for it gradually through withholding. Don't remember quite how much, maybe 150.
Don't know but last year offered 8 cpl w/sps from 1100-1400 lpd. Then went to 8.5 if consistently
s
I have been there almost a year. You should call if you had a problem. I bet Karen hired you. sm
She's gone and I know she took all the files and did not return them but destroyed them, just being her pleasant self.
I also, was hired by keystrokes

and then never heard another word.  I was dealing with Penny.  I understand that people may be busy and the company may be growing ect.... But, when you offer someone a position and they accept, there should be a process in place that ensures that people don't fall through the cracks.  This is TOTALLY unprofessional.

KEYSTROKES NEEDS TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. bottom line! There is NO excuse for this.

Hired by Keystrokes
Has anybody been hired by Keystrokes lately and still waiting to start work?  I was hired two weeks ago and should've started last week.  I keep getting the run around and not a definite answer.  I'm starting to worry.  Anybody else in this same situation?
Howdy! In the last year, I applied and got offered jobs at a minumum of 10 companies
and not ONE single place checked any references - not 1.  Even the one who said they would, Diskriter, never made 1 call. Do you feel lucky??
Pay offered last year was 8 cpl/w on 1100 lpd. Some posters said they lost all their good accts
s
A year ago, I was offered 8 cpl for experience and I needed my own Word 2003. I turned them down. nm

Been offered positions with Keystrokes,

TransHealth and TransTech.  Can't decide which to take.  There are dislikes with each.  Really want flexible schedule and ability to work off-line (download files and then go off-line).  Of course I want to be paid for my experience too (20 years).

I have seen mostly good posts on each in the archives.  KS seems to have the best potential.  I tend to stay in one place for several years and I dislike learning new dictators/platforms/ etc. so want to get it right the first time.

Any thoughts?

I was hired by the CEO and love my job at Keystrokes. sm
I agree with the lead person in that there is more here than you are telling. Did you not like the account? Did you not have the proper equipment, phone lines, etc? Did you send in your paperwork? Did IS set you up? If so, you were not forgotten by the CEO. After she hired me, I talked to Becky for paperwork, Val for my account and Paul for IS. I have never spoken to Lee again but I am glad that she hired me in the first place. Did you need her to hold your hand? Do you have problems with other companies too?
Anyone apply for Keystrokes lately and get hired?
I am wondering how long it takes to hear back from them once applying
I started 3 days after being hired by Keystrokes and have been there since
June. I love my account and have no complaints.
Offered a job with Zylomed and Keystrokes. Any one info/comparisons?

I wanted to work for Keystrokes but she hired me a month ago
and then never followed through. I think that they are a great company, at least the friends I have that work there think so, but it seems that hiring is their weak spot. I should apply for that. I am organized and would never let someone slip through the cracks. I am going to call their office on Monday to be the squeaky wheel.
I have been with Keystrokes for nearly a year now and have never (sm)
heard anything like that.  I don't have access to any boards and if I have a question I usually ask my lead.  However, I have gone to the word help board here but have never been reprimanded for it.
I have been with Keystrokes for a year now and I love it...
I love my account...my leads are helpful and I have as much work as I want...best move I ever made was coming to work for Keystrokes...Good luck!!!
I have been with Keystrokes for over a year and love it...

Not true. Transcend tried to buy Keystrokes last year. sm
Keystrokes owners turned them down as they are not interested in selling and they are against offshore transcription. They are getting as big as Transcend, maybe even bigger, and they treat their employees a heck of a lot better!

Where do you get these rumors from? Not from anyone who knows.
Last year, from Keystrokes we got Blockbuster gift cards for Christmas and for MT week sm
we got candles and candy. I always get a birthday card too, which is very nice.
I think it depends on experience, account hired for, etc. I was hired at .08 per line sm
but after 90 days went to 0.085 and then 0.09 about 90 days after that. I am now at 0.0925 and have been there a year. I have to point out that the line rate might not be the highest but I can verify my counts, have plenty of work, get paid on time and have a great manager. To me, leaving a bad national and the headaches that went with it was well worth the cut in pay I took. Funny thing is that I took a pretty sizable pay cut but make more money ?!?!
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)
x
I said "about to be" hired... not yet hired, and ........
considering it just like I would consider any job.... I didn't accept the job yet and wanted to check out the info out there.
Did Keystrokes sell to Transcend? I thought Keystrokes was buying up companies sm
but I heard from another service owner that they sold out to Transcend. Anyone know if that happened?
Last year $36K part time, going to make more this year full time BUT sm

I AGREE it IS getting harder to make money.  I used to make $24 very part time 10 years ago and now...well it is Word and platforms versus WP5.1.  I got 7.5 cents a byte line then and I get 9.5 cents a character line now.  That IS a huge different in point of fact.

OH I WANT MY WORDPERFECT 5.1 BACK!!!!! Bwaaah!

keystrokes ad..can someone tell keystrokes their banner ad needs a hyphen...quality-minded
nm
Did Keystrokes sell to Transcend? I thought Keystrokes was buying sm

small companies but another service owner told me that she heard that Keystrokes sold to Transcend.  Is this true?

I posted this down below but meant to post it as a new thread.  Before I apply with them, I would like to know as I left Transcend a few months ago and do NOT want to get back into that mess.

Not only that, but I would MUCH rather work for Keystrokes than Spheris as Keystrokes doesn't

Only Keystrokes. Worked at MQ until I came to Keystrokes. Started at sm
Keystrokes PT, liked what I saw and experienced, gave notice to MQ and went FT. Have not look back since. I had previously worked at 2 hospitals, for MDI, Transcend and MRC until bought by MQ. I plan on retiring here as long as they stay as they are.
No, Not with Keystrokes, visiting friend and using her pc, she got job with Keystrokes
I forgot to change the Name. I do not think Keystrokes is hiring anymore now. Would like some info about Diskriter though.
Ditto, Keystrokes is a wonderful company with wonderful people! I love working for Keystrokes!
I am just not making enough money.  They are a great company though, just ask for a back up account.
just got offered a job

Does anyone work or have any info on Wordzxpressed?  I have been offered a job and want some feedback.  I have been in an office job since Nov and want to go back to at home transcription but don't want to get burned!!!!

Thanks

Same here right now, because OT is offered

PLUS it is the end of the pay period when all the end-of-pay-period MT's decide to get on and take away all the work -- they have been resting for 2 weeks and can work all day and night and get their lines in. YUK !

I was just offered a job...
Pay rate is starting at 8 cpl for an IC.  After 90 days you get 8.5 if you have good quality.  They use "Winspread"  (not sure of the spelling).  Have been in business for 3 years.  Have direct deposit.
They offered me 8.5 cpl.
nm
Don't know about the others, but I was offered

a position.  I have 20 years' experience in acute care, very good at ESLs.  They offered me 8 cpl with the potential to make big bonuses - but that means I'll have to work extra and it just isn't worth it to me and there is no guarantee anyway.

When I asked if they offshored the HR person was hesitant but said they do if the client requests it.

The person I talked with a Cymed was evidently just HR and didn't even know what I was talking about most of the time when I asked questions about platform, line counting, etc.

I was offered a job with them...sm
but did not accept it. It seemed like their pay per lines were a little low.  Plus, after extensive conversations with them, I felt that they had REALLY high expectations for the pay that was being offered. Unsure though because I never accepted the job after it was offered.  Hope you find out the answers that you are looking for.
When I get offered anything less than..
9 cents, I tell them right out that is low and ask if they can do better. Sometimes it works!
