I was paid by the hour and turned in my hours and noticed then cut in half

Turned in 60 hours for 2 weeks and noticed only 28 hours. They went through my timesheet and changed number of hours each day. Never signed anything saying they do not pay for downtime so you sit 20 hours a day trying to get in your 1,000 lines a day with no work coming in so they do not want to pay because they did not have work, but I was online 20 hours babysitting each hour catching a job here and there.

you said 446 for half an hour of VR LINES SO... DUH....SM
I just did x2. I don't care if you typed after that, it still would be doubled for an hour. this is REALLY idiotic all right and I'm not wasting any more time on you. You already lost credibility by saying you type 130 wpm and would rather VR. Simply a lie miss L.
not paid the second half

Ok, about a month ago, I posted about a service who would not answer emails, phone calls, about paying me what was owed.  She paid me less than half of what she owed, and now I have waited patiently to get the balance and once again she will not answer emails or phone calls.  She is blatantly ignoring me. I emailed her and asked her WHEN she plans to pay me.  She has in her contract that she pays twice a month when the docs pay her. Well, this is going into the 3rd month now.  I have gotten that ONE check which was less than half what she owes.  I no longer work for her, as she locked me out of her system when I kept emailing her.  (GO FIGURE!), who would want to work and not get paid anyway!

I have tried to work with her and give her the benefit of the doubt, but at this point, I think that I am going to have to take other measures.

10-15 an hour for 8 hours is better than nothing for 8 hours when there is no work.

Last I heard 10,000 lines PPP gets half your insurance paid.
,
They only paid me half of what I earned and it bounced - three times.
stay away from them as far as you can!
In the past year and half, I have always been paid on time. --nm

I think it is $12/hr and it was 4 hours + 1 hour training, 2 days. nm.

Are there any QAs out there that are getting paid by the hour at 15+/hour? If so, where are you and
how are the work conditions/requirements/benefits,etc?
MT paid by the hour?????
Does anyone know of any Transcription companies that pay by the hour instead of by the line.  Please let me know of any.
$1,000 divided by 40 hours is $25.00 an hour. Where do you live that that is minimum wage? nm
:{
Are you paid by the hour? Why do you care
what is on your timesheet?
QA should be paid $30 an hour minimum

A good Transcriptionist should be easily able to make $20-30 an hour, and I know there are those who make more.  Since QA supposedly requires more knowledge and expertise, how can any company offer only $14 an hour?  And why would anybody take that?  I really don't understand it at all - makes no sense.

In the real world any job that requires more expertise will pay more.  Medical transcription seems to have it backwards - just my opinion.

They are paid by the line, not the hour. nm

Getting paid by audio hour
I have not gotten paid by audio hour before and just wondered if anyone has an idea what good pay per audio hour is? It's straight typing for seminars/speakers. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
Not that many QA people are paid by the hour sm
I am on furlough from a job that paid me hourly to QA. I was paid $16 and hour and I can do almost double that with VR or with typing. I QA for other reasons.

At my FT job that I still have, the QA is paid 3.5 cpl to edit reports and VR is 4.5 cpl. Given what QA has to deal with, which are traditional reports with the worst dictators and numerous blanks, that is almost not enough. Our VR platform is good, not outstanding, good. I have reports where I hardly change a thing and I feel overpaid. One of our accounts has MTs who are not doing their VR properly and the VR on THAT account is a pain in the backside. My primary is excellent, however, and I got to 400 lph in the first couple of days I used it. About 10 days in, I did more like 500 an hour today.

VR is not for every MT. Typing the old-fashioned way is not for everyone either. Personally, I am glad that no one has offered me hourly to do VR because they would not pay me what I am already making...and it is early days yet. Paying QA hourly has lead to some pretty shoddy work and QA people who bilk the system, I know because I have seen it.

Your points are valid. I am wondering what VR system you are using and who you work for. I tried it on WordClient Extext about a year ago...AWFUL. I am on ExEditor now and it is a breeze. I have a friend who has done Escription for a few years and loves that platform. Now, both Escription and ExEditor learn corrections as they go along. The problem is that so many MTs don't know their stuff, have a slightly different style or, sadly, don't care about their work and they are not actually editing the work. That adds up to a mess for those who care about their work, know their stuff and are making an honest effort. My main account has the best our company has to offer in the way of MTs because the account is very picky. End result? Excellent and constantly improving VR script.

There are just so many variables with this, more than with traditional MT, even with ESLs figured in.

Oh and by the way, we have some terrible ESLs they put through VR and I love it! Slow boring dictators are easy with VR. Even the slurring, sloppy talkers are good. Add in that my hands hurt a lot less and I am less tired at the end of a day...well I am ecstatic.
at that rate, working acute care, I would do $28 an hour - but I only work 6 hours a day...
Like she said, you just have to be able to utilize all your tools and be at it for years - it comes eventually...

I actually make $33.00 an hour though because at my production tier I make 10 cpl a line.
Or you're paid by the hour/not line
Or, you are paid by the hour/not line.
When I worked in-house I was paid by the hour....

only had to maintain 135 lph...but I never heard of anyone who was reprimanded for not maintaining that. The nice thing was the hourly pay (between $13 and $17 an hour) whether there was work or not, PTO, etc. Had work 98% of the time and if not we could go down to medical records and help out or go home early.

Must be paid MINIMUM WAGE for each hour -sm

worked under 40/wk if employee in the U.S., regardless of work type, job description.  In addition, must be PAID FOR ALL WORK PERFORMED - I won't even go there.

Att: Flamers: You can look this up yourself in DOL regulations.

Why do MTs who are paid by the hour cherrypick the normals off accounts.

Line counts shouldn't be that important to them.

I was paid by the hour to work from home for a large hospital. nm
x
think, people! If she does 250 lines/hour, same docs daily, will make $15/hour
nm
100,000/year - no way. I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days - sm
AND I DO NOT CLEAR $100,000/YEAR.

what's not to believe - I said that I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days AND DO NOT MAKE - sm
I DO NOT MAKE $100,000/YEAR

try READING the post.
$35/hour x five 10-hour days = $1,750 gross/week.

$20 an hour is not even average for radiology. You should not make less than $25-30 per hour. sm
I work for Keystrokes and have for 3 years. I average 25 reports an hour, which is $31.25 an hour. I have 401, health insurance, direct deposit, life insurance. My lead tells me I'm wonderful when I talk to her, but I do not need a daily pat on the back.

I also have a good friend who works for them on a clinic. She only makes 0.08 per line but does 300 lines an hour, which is $24 an hour, again higher than your $20.

I don't think we're selling ourselves short. There are companies out there that are good to work for, 6 or 8 of them that I know of personally. Don't settle for $20 an hour.
Sorry, I work 15 hours a day 5 days a week and 5 hours the other 2, when I come here I dont proof.
nm
Why would they give you a choice of 16 or 24 hours. Usually part time is anything under 37 hours.

That is extremely odd. Well they must have something up their sleeves. Well I will be working elsewhere part time as well as with MQ as I have no intention of sitting 40 hours with no work from Amherst and be expected to have 150 lph with no work. What is all this window of work time they said they would be giving everyone. I figured all along they would do away with SE. I have already been looking around and ordered a new computer  to send theirs back.

Any companies that allow line count rather than hours or less than 20 hours per week? (sm)

Wouldn't mind having something extra especially with Christmas and general winter expenses coming up but working a FT job and really don't want to do another 20 hours on top of that.

the day has 24 hours, I work only 6-8 hours, so, lots of time to post...nm
nm
Must we choose either 8, 16 or 24 hours. Why would they want someone only working 8 hours a week.
That is less than SE are required now.
MDI-FL. Approximately 7 hours a month x12 months =84 hours
And your PTO acrues from day 1. You are just unable to utilize it until after 90 days. They have excellent benefits.
You can have insurance at 30 hours with Encompass, 32 hours with eTransPlus. nm

Well if I could do 500 lines per hour, I would be making 35.00 an hour. sm
nothing to sneeze at. More than fair for having a 2-year degree. Come on people, we are all acting like we expect 6-digit incomes! Whatev!
They only pay half, so if you were
say 8 CPL, you would only get 4 CPL.  I am not doing ME for them but you would have to do twice as much to make the same money.  I have already decided if they try to force me into it, I will move on.
Half
A lot of companies like mine pay half. If I had to do ASR full time for that price, I would go to work at a store or something easy.
about half. However, you might be one of those sm
people who really excels on ASR once you get going on it and figure out ways around it.  I know people who now prefer ASR and are making more than they did with regular and don't want to go back to regular.  Keep in mind you have to do 2.5 to 3 times the lines on ASR as regular to recoup what you were doing on regular.  Some people can do that, I can't, because I read too slow.  Even with ASR, it's all in the macros/shortcuts.  1200 lines a day at 10 cpl is $120.  You'll need 2600 ASR lines at 0.045 cpl to get $117.  Can you opt to do both regular and ASR?
one-half cent
nm
I'm a little confused. Do you mean 3/4 of a cpl or 7 and a half cpl? sm
Because if you are meaning 3/4 of a cent per line that seems REALLY low.  Maybe I'm just reading your post incorrectly.
I got mine within about a day or a day and a half.
s
I was only there a year and a half, but
did the same, got a secondary job as an IC back in August when things were crazy with the 15 different CPs I was making NO money and was so frustrated! Before that, I was at the same hospital for 11 years and only left cause they went over to MQ. I am still keeping my IC job, I love it! But am doing 40 hours for KS. Training was today, kind of confusing after working on DQ, but I'm sure I'll get it. Smart move, I hope you find the new job much more profitable so you'll be able to switch over for good!
I was only half joking s/m
I've always worked so I'm sure that I'll continue to make extra money.  We, as MTs, have more talents than we usually give ourselves credit for.  For one thing, I have a website http://www.ozarkmountainmemories.com that right now is used for a nonprofit event but by the first of next year or so I expect it to be making money.  I never thought I could build a website and it took me awhile but I got 'er done!
No, half of what you make as an IC does not

go to taxes, but 30% is a good percentage to work with at this time, but that is likely to change with a Democratic president.  Not trying to make a political statement here, just state facts.  As an IC, you will have deductions you can take, home office expenses, a percentage of your utilities based upon the square footage of your home office, any expense that has to do with your business, DSL, extra phone lines, etc.

This job is going to the dogs.  If you read the ads on the boards, most of the big nationals are nothing more than sweat shops these days, trying to get blood out of a turnip, and paying less and less and giving nothing in return.  Oh, they say they offer benefits, but you can't afford them.  Not to say that they can make it more affordable in these economic times, but the fact remains that they are in business to make a buck, and they are making their big bucks on the backs of transcriptionists.  They expect sacrifice, but it is YOUR sacrifice they want, not theirs.  That is evidenced by the fact that you, the MT, will work on the weekends, you will neglect your family, you will have no life, and they don't give a rat's patootie.  I remember when we didn't work weekends or holidays.  Don't give me this 24/7, 365.  THEY, the muckety mucks DON'T work weekends.  When they negotiate contracts, they sell your soul to provide 24-hour coverage, but their big asses are at home on the weekends.

I am an IC because I cannot stomach working for a national that wants my blood, my children's blood, and my life sitting and waiting to hopefully grab a job and if I don't have work today to stay up 24 hours so I can make line count to keep my benefits!  Benefits????  What benefit is there for me and my family working for these companies if I never see my family, never have the time to take a leisurly day to do the things that normal families do, going to a ball game, a movie, having their friends over for a cookout, going to church together, sitting and watching a DVD together?

I am afraid we have allowed this to happen to this profession.  We bowed to their demands of Tue. thru Sat. or Sun. thru Fri.   We accept poverty-level wages.  We say it is okay that our benefits are based on our production, but when we don't have work, we don't scream and yell when they take away our benefits.

You know, unions were created because of just such conditions.  These companies are taking advantage of us, and if you don't think so, just look at the demands being made if you apply and are one of the chosen ones.

Lord help us all.  When the economy really tanks (quite soon, I'm afraid), you'll see them drop like flies, all of them, to 3rd world countries.  You think they care about the American MT?  Heck no.  They only care about themselves.

What is the other half of the company?
Signed on contracts like hospitals and stuff? I'm not following what you all mean. If it covers it for now does that mean lay offs might happen?
Thanks Travelin! I think half the sm
battle is finding the fit for you! Not every company is for everyone.
Yea my job offered me less than half....

of my salary accompanied by the e-mail saying how I would be getting 3 times my lines with this wonderful VR system.  I'm not overly concerned because it is my part-time job.  I barely make any money with them anyway, so I will take the opportunity to learn it and just see how it goes I suppose.  It's ridiculous though.

I was turned down

by TRX because I am not a member of the AKC. Disappointed.

I turned them down too
Took a job that paid more. 7.75 cpl was just way too much of a pay cut for me.
I know someone who turned them down
recently because of the low pay. I guess they sent her a contract anyway and didn't even acknowledge that she very clearly stated that she will not work for anyone for that line rate. Then they sent her an email wanting to know why she hadn't filled it out and returned it. Not the brightest bulb in the bunch??
I was turned off of them because..
I applied, immediately heard back and asked to test immediately because they were in a big hurry to fill the positions and liked my resume. I did this and then...NOTHING.. not the courtesy of even telling me I passed or didn't pass (honestly this test was so easy that I would have been shocked if I didnt pass). I even did a follow email to see what was going on and they never even acknowledged me in any shape or form. In my eyes, this is total unprofessionalism and gives me a bird's eye view how they handle their business. No thanks. I moved on.
Turned another one down...
I received another offer today of 8 cpl (from a popular MTSO), no matter the level of experience. Seriously??? So, I would be paid the same rate as a newbie, and I have 22 years of HARD-EARNED experience? I think not. I am going to keep sending in my resume and I'll keep turning them down if they remain low. I may be but a single voice, but it will be heard. They should be ashamed. I made more than 8 cpl when I first started. There's no way I'd go back to lower than that at this point in my career. I'm too good for that.
