I would like to hear MQMTs opinion of the QA point plan that Amherst has decided we should all be

doing. I find the things they deduct for petty and ridiculous but I guess that is to make sure no one gets any bonus. Most of what they pick about is really not correct anyway. I wonder who came up with that idea. I think they had better go back to the drawing board.

My opinion on QA point plan at Amherst
Yes it is ridiculous and you cannot possibly get a bonus for what they require 15% or fewer reports sent to QA every quarter. $50 and $100; what are they crazy.
Hear, hear! Read My Opinion's opinion.
Regarding Wondering's question, the company I work for is investing strongly in upgrading its MTs' and editors' skill levels (exactly what this says about need for us for ten years down the road I can't say). This morning I found an e-mail saying they would pay every one of us to attend an on-line class on making Expander macros to increase our productivity. Amazingly, I have to assume many employees were choosing not to attend the unpaid ones they had been offering...
The insurance plan in my opinion is excellent insurance. I am not sure if it will change when it'
time to renew or not. I really hope not but I know that a lot of companies change every year in an effort to keep costs down because most insurance companies start raising rates after you have been with them a year. The insurance is Great West and they also have excellent dental and vision plans. I believe the cost is less than $70 a pay period for the employee.
Don't worry just find out and then have a plan A and plan B
I have gone through something like this but not with that company. I too am the insurance provider for my family and there are preexisting conditions, so a private policy is no good.
First of all, I work elsewhere but had the same situation. I fell short of line count, but not because of me, because they did not have enough work, and I like many others cannot make quota because of the way they count lines. Then, on last paycheck there was a negative on insurance money taken out of check. I thought I lost insurance, but found out at the end of the year, they did an audit and found out that I overpaid all year and so I actually was owed money that check.
In the meantime, I found another job but have to wait 90 days for insurance. Can't find a policy to bridge the 2 jobs, insurance is on my mind all the time. My heart is with you. Personally I am getting the 90 day meds, working on my second job which will become my real job and if I lose the insurance, Cobra will kick in in case of disaster so that is like major medical.
Sorry such a long post, but I suggest: Not to panic. You probably did not lose insurance. Call the benefit provider to see you are still covered, not the employer. If you are not still covered, get 90 days of Rx if your plan covers by mail and be billed, immediately get another job which is a better place to work anyway (I found one) and in 90 days you will be okay. Some places like Disriter cover the first of the following month, but I would not necessarily suggest you work somewhere which is not so great just for insurance. You can consider TransTech. That would be my suggestion. Sorry for such a long post. But this hit a nerve and I wanted you to understand some options, as I have gone through it. Good Luck.
Anyone that applied with Kathy Kirby hear anything yet? I am wondering how long it takes to hear a
response back
Yes. Amherst
How did you know?
MQ/AMHERST
The problem with the Amherst office is the VP in that office and the director.  They are 2 overpaid  women who micro manage the entire office.  They need to do that to prove to the top management in the company that they are worth keeping.  I would never recommend any MT staying in that office.  If you want to stay with MQ I would advise transferring from the Amherst office. It will never get better with those 2 women.  The in-house employees there are also very unhappy and are treated terrible by these 2 women. Unfortunately this office really gives MQ a bad name, whereas some of the other offices I think I run very well.
Amherst/ P AND M
yes you are right
amherst/P&M
I am not sure. I do know that these two women have actually had a death threat about a year ago. What a shame that corporate would allow this to continue. They must have know about that because the police were involved and it was documented. I would think the company would be fearful of more law suits, etc. not sure why they let this happen.
I have already decided not to
do editing for Transcend it offered.  They only pay half your line rate, I don't think my production will double from what I have heard, people having to put in every other work on VR because it is not picked up.  I have had no problems with the auto correct and did try out an Expander program, Short Hand, their free trial download and it has worked fine, I just don't like Short Hand I think, can't remember all those.  I have had tech problems with copying large blocks, would not do it.  I thought it was me.  Lost a report yesterday over this.  I have not found the work particularly difficult, but the quality of sound is not very good, static.  I will give them a try, but wondering about Beyond TXT.
Thanks, decided to go with KS. nm

Here is what I have decided to do
Just ignore the whole thing, like they do to us. I will just let it sit until they pester me for it or threaten to fire me. They are so unorganized, they will probably forget about it.

I also talked to my attorney, who said the arbitration agreement really would not hold up in a court of law.
Decided against
They ran an ad also about 1-2 weeks ago with a LARGE number of VIEWS.  I downloaded the dictation, looked over the samples and abbreviation and after careful thought, decided no way.  The pay is low, dictation about 5-6 lines each mostly repetitive and would drive me bats even if I COULD make template (too short) I would lose $, dictator too fast and does not care if understood.  I did not follow through, just deleted the files.
not sure what you decided
I currently have worked for Probity full time since October last year. Personally, I have not had any problems. If you are full-time, the benefits aren't that bad - no benefits if you are part-time, which I think sucks! As far as I know, they do pay for spaces, but I may be wrong- never really asked. The manual says We do pay for spaces. Their pay scale depends on how many lines per pay period you transcribe, the lowest being 0.0825 and the highest being .09, which is nice. The thing I really DO NOT like is having to commit to a weekend schedule. Every Saturday or Sunday, you do have a schedule that you have to adhere to. I like the people there and they have been very kind to me. However, I do know of an MT or 2, who don't really care for it. There are ESL docs and yes, some of them are pretty darn tough. Just like any job - unless you are your own boss - there are pros and cons. That is not aviodable. If anyone knows of some place that is perfect, please, fill me in.

As far as I know, they do not outsource and ASR/EMR/VR - whatever you want to call it is not in the near future for this company. That is not to say that it won't happen.

Buffola/Amherst
They are both the same. I think any office that is closed in the northeast, the transcriptionists are sent to Foxboro or Amherst, therefor lots of MT's and no work
Sorry this is the Amherst office of MQ.
:
Amherst and no work
It does not matter if it is the end of the pay period or not, I am always running out of work since I was transferred to the Amherst office. Too may MT's and not enough accounts and yet they are still hiring. My girlfriend was lucky enough to be transferred to the Ohio office and actually had an incentive for this week end--go figure
Amherst/No Work
I was transferred to Amherst over 9 months ( I was tranferred there from Foxboro because there was no work there) ago and I am having the same problem since I started there. I really think that no one cares. I don't care how many times you call the office or email, nothing is never done. It seems so unfair because the other MQ offices have work and we seem to have the only office that is run like this--AWFUL!!!! Is there anyone out there that works for the Amherst office that never runs out of work and if so, how many accounts do you have??? Why doesn't someone in Corp helps us and get this office run right
Amherst I assume.
:
MQ-Columbus/Amherst
I too work for the Colunbus office and it is the best. I have one primary acct and I am able to do 15,000 lines a pay period and never worry about running out of work. I am not bragging about it, I feel sorry for the MT's in the Amherst office and wish that your office was run like the Columbus office. Why do the big wigs let something like this continue on and give MQ a bad name. Rumor has it that my office is closing and we are being transferred to the Cleveland office, that is fine, as long as it is not to the Amherst office.
Amherst MQ Office
Why is this office allowed to operate this way?? Why is nothing done. I wish this office would be closed and we were transferred somewhere else but it seems like any office in the NE that is closed, is sent to Amherst.
why they keep amherst open
amherst office runs all of the east coast offices. So you are probably safe if you tell HR you want to be managed by the west coast team. I think they are much nices to their MTs
You must not work out of Amherst
I am required to work 8 hours a day, being fulltime, and required to type a certain amount of lines per pay period. If I get my lines in before the 8 hours, I cannot stop working until I have worked the 8 hours. They are watching. Why do I have to do both?

It does not make sense to me. I DO NOT get paid by the HOUR. I get paid by the LINE.

Does anyone have an answer to that one?
RUN FROM AMHERST AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
:
I decided not to take their job offer. (nm)
x
Well, I've decided we all will get 25 cpl from now on.
Now I'll REALLY be popular!
You're right, but I decided (sm)
to go with what the other poster said about what I am looking for in a job and took it.  I was so frustrated with the software where I was that I just couldn't stand the aggravation anymore.  I just want to do what I do best on software that works.  We haven't been paid what we are worth for about 15 years or so.  What happened?
I have decided to keep their pedals
until they call me asking for them back (if they even do that). I do not understand how companies like this stay in business. Their loss! Thanks again.
Yeah I decided not to go with
them after finding out how bad of a place it is to work.  I have 8 years experience so I don't need to work there.  I stopped responding to the email.  Thanks for the info!
Yes, I have decided to stay put myself. sm
too much of a pain to learn yet another computer system and platform. What I did was put the pros and cons of working where I do on paper. The pros far outweighed the cons so I am staying put.
This is rumor. Nothing has been decided yet. sm
We are still getting final numbers from 2 different insurance companies. In the past, we have not qualified for a large group policy at a decent rate because of lack of participation. All of the big insurance companies want 50% of the employees to take the insurance and we did not have that in the past. It does look good this time though. We are hoping that the rates come back low but nothing is definite at this point.
Decided to take the offer
I decided to take the offer. I have had a growing number of differences with MED-Scribe lately, and I am ready for a change. I know someone else who is very happy there, and their opinion differs greatly from the old complaints of 2004 & 2005 that were posted on here. Apparently, the company must have worked the bugs out of their system, as they have some happy employees and ICs there now.
So I decided to thank her HERE since it's gone crazy
/
What you have decided makes a lot of
sense. I was just telling my husband last night about how this line of work has gone down and just thankful that I am nearing most of my work life instead of facing it in the future. I have done ok with this in the past but to make a living and raise a family, just not what 1 can get by on anymore. I think your idea is to be commended.
Amherst and lack of work

How do you deal with it?? You try to get someone at the office to listen to you and then you start the endless list of 5 or 6 accounts that you bounce around it, trying to meet your line quota in fear that they may take away your insurance and now that the MT's from yet another office closing have been transferred there, I somehow do not know if this will even end. If MT's are out of work, why does the hiring continue?????? Or as someone has said, are they trying to get rid of the higher paid MT's, afterall MQ did say in their SEC report that they expected thier revenue to continue to decline with the loss of accounts and with new accounts coming in at a lower rate due to competition. One of the MT's that was transferred with me to Amherst, actually we have been transferred twice since the closing of our office, has started to do some ASR and was wondering if her pay scale was going to change. Her supervisor made a comment, "I don't think your rate will change, I will let you now" , has anyone had their rate change since doing ASR?????

Does anyone know how many offices MQ had 2 years ago and how many they have now?? Just curious as this was one of the things mentioned in the SEC filing ---about more offices closing--are they going for the Big Four--I was surprised to see that the Atlanta office was closing as I always thought that was one of the Big Four

Amherst needs 2 take a course in managing a business...
from Columbus. Great office! Kudos to ya guys...
amherst paying production and pto only?
Does that mean that if you work at Amherst office, there is no such thing as full-time and no health benefits? Very confused. If the packet states you can work 8, 16, 24 hours are you considered employee, and they take out your taxes. Am I understanding there will be no such thing as SE anymore? Please can some clarify these questions. TIA
Amherst regional office
i hope that you are not referring to the amherst office, that has to be the worse office in the northeast--let's hope that the regional office is somewhere else
I've decided to find a new job.
However, everyone seems to want fulltime or Tu-Sa/Su-Th or C-phone.  Is anyone hiring for parttime day shift any more?  I dream of a steady workload, decent platform, honest company, direct deposit, consistent QA, DSL instead of dial-in or dial-up, no need to rent their computer.  Is there such a company out there?
I decided I could start next month....
Still tying up loose ends at current position, hired in Sept.
I had applied but I decided that I did not want to pursue with them because...
The owner or manager had contacted me about testing further etc.. When I work during the day, I do not answer my phones and return the calls when I take breaks. Well, he was quite cornered and bothered that I was so difficult to get a hold of, which I took it as not at my beck and call attitude. Just in my opinion, I felt that there was possibly a control issue and I was married to a control freak and would never go there again.. FOR ANYONE.. but that was just my personal experience.
You decided their transcription must be bad because her headset was? sm
That doesn't make any sense.
maybe they caught on to your attitude and decided against it.
nm
Yep. I decided I'd pass on even talking with her. sm
I'm glad she emailed me the info first so I didn't waste her time or mine.  Everything seems very structured and rigid.  I don't mind working weekends, so I might have been one of the lucky ones who make 10 cpl, and maybe I'm an idiot for taking a pass on it, but something just tells me this is not a good fit.
I got all the emails but I decided to move on
Every time I ask a question here I get my head bit off and that has been by more than one person. I don't need to be treated this way and will check on the other company and maybe work parttime here. Thank you for all your answers. I am going to follow my gut feeling and stop fighting with it.
How is it decided whether you are internet acct or a LD one? NM
nm
BOS not written by God. Just some rules decided
x
Thank you for the offer but I've decided

I just don't have a good feeling about this.  I typed over 5000 lines already and haven't been paid and no communication when I will be paid.  I sent all my personal information, soc. sec #, banking info to a recruiter who now is not answering my emails - this makes me feel very uneasy.  I haven't received your emails, so no I don't think I'm on your team.  The person who trained me said she was my team leader and that's the last I heard from her.

Good luck to you.  I just don't feel comfortable with any of this, and would rather move on now than wait around and get burnt later.  Thanks again.

I decided against it also..made me squirm
/
Thanks for all the info! I decided to go with another company
although this looked tempting, the pay did not look enough to me (cpl) for a difficult ESL. I could do difficult ESLs and do not mind that but need a higher line rate for that skill. Tempting though it indeed was! Thanks again for your feedback.
No, decided to give myself a raise.
This week I decided that I should be making more money. So I quit dinking around on the internet while I was working and really focused. I also decided to track my hours to make sure I was working close to 8 (I thought I was, but I realize now it was more like 7). This week my production has increased by about 13%. With incentive, that amounts to at least 15% more in my paycheck. Didn't realize I was wasting so much time. Personally, I love working on production for this very reason. My husband, on the other hand, is working more hours and had to take a 15% pay cut recently (he is in management). I truly don't believe the grass is greener on the other side.
