I believe with pre-existing conditions sm
and signing on as a new employee you are automatically covered under the open enrollment rule. At least that was what I was told when I changed jobs. I had my certificate of credible coverage but the transcription company and the insurance company didn't need it.
I don't know about pre-existing conditions as there
isn't anything I've had to deal with, but I was impressed with how good the insurance was and how inexpensive it was, especially compared to most plans.  The company also provides some benefits free, such as vision, and long/short-term disability.
If IC's can't join EXISTING unions, then maybe
it's time for MTs to form a union that DOES include IC's, especially since they are a large part of this industry. They deserve better wages, too.
Pregnancy is excluded from pre-existing conditions. nm

I have a question regarding pre-existing and insurance policies if anyone can help me. sm
I haven't had insurance in a long time but my DH is coming up to qualify for insurance in July. It is BC/BS and is $305/mo for he and I with $2000 deductible. I have been having a lot of medical issues lately. I see on the paperwork it asks for proof of insurance for the last 18 months. I don't have any. Anybody know what they will do about pre-existing? I could go to a doc where nothing is documented but at this point I am not sure if it is better for me to search my own policy or get on his given my medical situations. I don't know how the pre-existing things work.
I make subs sign only for my existing client base
nm
Any of you TransTech MT's have pre-existing condition, and what are requirements by Aetna/Coventr

If an employee has a preexisting condition from several years back, but has not had treatment of any kind for that same condition for the past years, is that still considered a preexisting condition? The new insurance will not pay for ANY preexisting conditions. Am I right about that?

If anyone has hands-on experience with this, please respond. TIA

To BTDT
Thank you so much for your very helpful suggestions. I'm very happy to learn you finally found a good match. Would it be possible for you to disclose the name of your company, if we did it privately by e-mail? I've been an employee Transcriptionist for 15 years and am very nervous about making a move to contractor, for many of the reasons you've stated (for example, being taken advantage of), but would be much more inclined to do so with a company that comes with a good recommendation from a current IC. Please let me know if you would do this and I'll forward you my e-mail. If not, thank you again for your time and thoughts.

Wow, sounds like we could be twins! I feel good about my decision. I cannot continue to live on the edge, wondering if I can pay my bills or not. I have loved MDI and wish all good for it. I also wish all good for myself. I will do the very best I can for MDI and also for the side-job I have. I wish the times in which we live did not make two jobs necessary; but, alas, they do. A. Sertive, yes, we do work together in a manner of speaking. I can only hope for the best for all of us--the MTs AND the MTSOs. We live in a scary economy and my hope is that everything will work out well. Again, I want to thank everyone on this thread for being so civil.
I agree with BTDT
Be very careful with KS. I worked for them for a short time and gladly went back to MQ. Had a witch of a lead (very threatening) and work which was so sporadic, I went days without any. Perhaps I just ended up on a bad account, but be very, very careful with this one. Get an employee manual and all things in writing as I was lied to at the beginning by their HR person about all things, including the benefit package.
Again, Lee is a very nice person, but still proceed with caution and keep your old job for a while after you begin with KS, just in case.
Spheris-BTDT-got away
I just quit after working there for 6 years.  They're HEAVY into India.  It became very difficult to make a living.  Good accounts would just disappear and when you would ask about them, you'd get lied to and then find out later they went to India.  I  only had one good supervisor the whole 6 years and I had about 8 of them.  My last supervisor wouldn't let second shifters take a day off unless we got someone to cover for us.  They treat their employees very poorly and its getting worse.
Same experience as BTDT
nm
BTDT, I'd love to know why you are such an expert....
you post a lot of negativity, but doubtful that you have worked for BOTH MDI and Transcend.
Maybe so, but I've BTDT with TransTech...
and THEIR ESLs are particularly difficult. It's not just one doc, either - it's a BUNCH!~
the offshore work - BTDT -

I've BTDT. I'm sorry you're going SM

through the same thing.  Here is my advice (for what it's worth).  I would not actually quit until you find a new job.  Then, respectfully, let the old company know that although you feel bad about leaving them that you have to give 2 weeks notice because there is just not enough work to pay your bills.  You could also say that if they do not need you due to low work volume that you could quit effective immediately, but that due to professional courtesy you would be happy to complete 2 weeks (something along those lines).  Just be polite about it.  They know that the majority of us work for a living and cannot expect us to continue to work for a company that does not have work.

Good luck to you!

BTDT with TT - started out great, but like others....sm
constantly ran out of work or was given the dredges. When earnings were affected, I said ta-ta and never looked back! I'm happy that it's working for you, but believe me these complaints about this company on this board are VERY legitimate. As has been said many MANY times here, one company does not work for every MT - and there are better ones out there. I know - I found one!
Oh, THAT! BTDT!!! Good luck. There are better companies out there. nm

grass isn't greener, BTDT came back, sm
I have always been frustrated with management. However, they don't pay management enough and that is a huge reason why they don't get quality people in there. One awesome person they had left and now I see she is even back - grass wasn't greener elsewhere for her.

I left awhile back and came back with my tail between my legs. There are far worse companies out there, I tried 3 before I came back.

Why do I like Diskriter -
Pay is average for industry don't expect anything more than average, on time, direct deposit.

QA staff is very good, only 1 person maybe would not be my ideal QA person there because she really doesn't know what she's doing - she's QA because she can't type fast enough (was told that by a management level person who is no longer there).

Their Tech Support people are wonderful and always go out of their way, very personable and more than willing to help no matter time of day or night. Other companies are not that good or personable.

So, I guess I will be a Diskriter MT forever. Many have left and a lot have come back. They aren't for everyone but no one is.

Feel free to email me if you want to know more.
I have narrowed it to those 3 companies. I am not interested in Webmedx - BTDT. nm
nm
I echo BTDT and left a few months ago. Don't bother. NM
nm
well then, maybe the only way they got a hold
of your name is that maybe you are from New York. Did you used to work for Ubiqus maybe????
lol, hold on now...
love the weather but the cost of living is high so my pay with my job versus your pay with your job might just equal out and weigh even. the good thing, though, is when we have meetings, we do the conference thing from home and use it as downtime.
hold
Anyone ever experienced having a hold put on a check they received from the company they work for?

I just did. The company said the funds have been released but bank still shows hold. I asked for another form of payment as I didn't want to wait for the hold to come off or possibly find the check returned and they actually had the gall to say, no-one else has had this problem. My reply, that's great for them but this is my situation. They also said, we just sent another check. Just what I need. Another worthless piece of paper!

Checks always late anyway so time to start job hunting again.

Why did they hold them out??? Did you
x
What degree do you hold?
I hold a bachelors in psychology and I wouldn't trade my education for anything. By the way, I've left MT and now have a great career in a completely different field thanks to my bachelor's degree. I'm now working towards my masters.
Hold my hand??? sm
How about returning my calls instead of hiding behind the answering machine!! How about answering one of my dozen emails!! Give it up Lee. You're just making the obvious more obvious.
Don't let that hold you back
I never paid $25 to get my check delivered via UPS, and I got it the following Tuesday.  I believe they're mailed on Friday.  FN is in CA, and I'm in CO.  There are no guarantees on mail service, but I wouldn't let this hold you back.  Are you considering part time or full time?  If you're considering full time, why not become an SE and get the direct deposit?  You only have to do 12,000 lines per pay period as an SE.  May be worth checking into!  Good luck!
Hold your ground everybody
They should only be able to get newbies or Indians for that rate.  It seems like a lot of companies are hopping on the bandwagon to try to get away with offering lower and lower rates.  I have noticed some companies later on bringing their rates back up a bit though - probably because they can't get any good MTs at that rate - so HOLD YOUR GROUND!!!  I think it's doing some good already.  I also recently read that some doctors and hospitals are requesting that they work be transcribed in the US only - which is good news!
ESP is quite good. You might want to hold
off on spending your money on ShortHand since you don't already have your shortcuts loaded on it. I did buy it because I'm used to having it, but ESP is really good and easy to use. The only thing I'm using Shorthand for is my long normal reports, but it's not really necessary.
You are right not to hold your breath
Sorry, but as much as I'm for the concept of free enterprise our system of cRapitalism breeds corruption and greed. Watch for this industry to be further diluted with regard to quality, benefits, pay, etc.

That 'doesn't' mean good jobs aren't possible, just that ever since the cRapitalists discovered there is $ in transcription, the industry was exploited... and the winners will generally 'not' be the worker bees. The 'new' generation coming into the field will not have the history (memory) of what it was like before, and because these jobs will still be higher-paying than many others, and allow one to work from home, finding 'worker bees' will likely not be too difficult, especially with the advent of VR...

Sorry to be a bummer - hope I'm proven wrong on this.

hold up on that party

you may need it later.

Don't Hold Your Breath
She does have a brand new $60,000 vehicle to pay for first.... Guess where her priorities are?
Medquist does but I would hold off until
.
I can't hold this news.

Came to know from A VERY RELIABLE SOURCE that ***** ******** is working as QA for ****** ********(MBS Millenium Business Services).

They do expect you to hold to your

scheduled hours unless the work is slow. Then you can flex, but you need to make up your time later.

One weekend per month is required.

Hold on there! Now I must step in.

Don't be putting down people who like to do VR. I did straight typing for over 15 years and I am making the same, if not more, doing VR now. I was not a very slow typist, and quality is my first priority. I've been doing VR for almost a year now and love it. What makes it easy for me is I never really relied on Expanders to up my line rate since my hospital didn't really allow them, except for autocorrect. I didn't have an Expander until 6 years ago. Doing VR, I can't use the expander I did finally learn, but it's no big deal.

Like some other posters stated, it depends on who else is doing the reports whether or not VR is easy or hard.  Some days, my reports are easy, other days tough. It's the same when doing straight typing. Some dictators are easy, other are tough.

I don't think VR is really made for large companies with hundreds of transcriptionists. It's made for the smaller companies that all conform to the same verbiage.

If you're good/fast/quality-oriented with straight typing without expanders, then VR would be good for you. If you rely on an expander to get those lines, you will have a problem in the beginning, but if you're flexible, it will pan out.

Don't down people because they like VR. You know what they say......try it. You may like it.

I hold that same grudge - SM
I remember the conference call sometime in August 2006 when Cymed management told us about SPi taking over. They were all acting like it was such a great thing that was happening and that we wouldn't notice any major changes at all. That was the biggest load of crap I have ever been fed by a company! I remember getting a one-line email from our account manager on Thanksgiving day of 2006 saying that she was leaving with no explation whatsoever. It basically just said, I'm leaving; it was nice working with all of you. I held on for a few more months to see if things would stabilize, but they only got worse. I quickly started sending out applications to other companies and got the heck out of there as soon as I got a great offer and I have been much, much happier ever since. I still shudder when I think about my SPi days!
How do you get a hold of Administration

Do not jump on me.  I am trying to ask a legitimate question and would appreciate a correct (not guess) response.  I did look all over the Board and could not find a link.  If I missed it, my bad.  If not, can someone help me, since I do not want to get YELLED at for asking a stupid question about a company.

Requesting Assistance:

How do you get a hold of a Moderator or Administration?

Regarding:

Using the Search For on the Board.

Question:

Are there any parameters that cannot be searched?

Yes, I am using the Search For box to the right of the Post A New Message box, and not the Google Search.

Search for:

What I have found:

When I try to search for companies that commonly go by acronyms (for example OSi or UST), I do not get any hits at all even though I can see that they were just discussed a few inches down the page (I still want to see if there is any other information available from previous posts).  If I search for US Transcription – all the results have the word transcription but not UST or US Transcription.

It seems to me that the search word has to be at least 4 characters or it will not find anything.  Is that correct, or am I just doing something wrong?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

How do you get hold of WEBMX
Hi i want to apply to webmx, how do you find their website i could not find it. thank you
rff
Don't hold your breath.
Especially if you are part-time.
Whoo, hold on a minute
Just heard a talk on this yesterday, true you can freeze your credit for $10.00 for every place you have on your acct and then when you want to unfreeze $10.00 again for the same, every company but what I heard is not that easy to undo a freeze, takes longer and more involved.
Go to 2nd page - " Can't Hold This News"
There is a lady's name posted and being talked like crazy!!
Most companies hold your first check
x
it is not unusual for a bank to hold a
check over a certain amount for up to a week.
Are you saying your bank put a hold on your check - sm

Or that your employer is telling you that your check didn't clear because their bank has placed a hold on the checks?

I'm asking because I worked for an MTSO who would always pay late or bounce checks and claim it was his bank's fault as they were placing extended holds on his deposits thereby funds not being available - supposedly.

If it is your bank, then yes, they will place holds on the check until the funds clear the bank - anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks, depending on their policy.

If it is the MTSO, run, don't walk, away from this company.  I had this happen to me back in 2005/2006 and believe it or not, it is still happening and it is amazes me that companies like this can continue to do business this way.

That is true, they cannot hold you to set hours;
however, if they only need coverage at night or weekends, then you say yay or nay to working then. They do not have to offer you work when it is convenient for you.
Just hold your horses, ain't Christmas yet!

Any hold outs on the PC check at A?nm
nm
Rumors don't hold water with me.

GIVE FACTS or keep quiet. You keep trying to down TT everytime someone posts a question. I have asked you time and time again for the FACTS which you have not provided.

You heard....i.e., you DON'T know. You  ASSUME. Why don't you go right to management and confront them and THEN AND ONLY THEN, come back to this board and post the TRUTH. Until then, stop trying to spread RUMORS!!!

I called earlier and hung up from being on hold so
long.  Apparently lots of calls today.  Wonder why?
