If you are speaking of this week at TT, they are working on payroll which is MORE Important to me

I love to leave them alone on pay week, especially, as I really enjoy always getting my paycheck on time !

I dont seem to bother them at all, tho.  No need to.

It's not just during the week of payroll. SM
Also, sending e-mails and expecting a reply is not as you put it bothering them. It's a normal part of business.
work a week off payroll?? PLZ sm

Yas know what, there are probably a lot of  valid complaints here on the board but is really of no value unless the name of the company is shared.  What good does it really do, no one else can be alerted and informed to make future decisions. Change can perhaps be implented on the other side when as isolated MTs can learn the fact and not be taken in (because the info is shared from which decisions can be made..

I have taken to sending an email (at times with the resume but also without) and ask if they would mind sharing the highest to the lowest line rate offered for the position as --I mention (to them)  this would save valuable time on BOTH sides.

I have also taken to asking if this position is for VR. (cuz I'm not doin it)

This gives a better playing field as I don't want to spend all that time on testing on 7 files, going through an interview to find some ridiculous offer I would have never considered had I known up front.

I think the JOB OFFER BOARD here should have all the facts listed up front.

Working at home is very important to me
But keep in mind we HAVE BEEN working at home in this industry and making GOOD money for years now. It is only recently that this downslide has occurred. It is as much a benefit to the employer as it is to the employee to work at home. Think about all the money they save in office space and utilities and more and more of them do not supply equipment anymore. They want us to keep thinking the way your post reads and forget that we benefit them by working at home too. The working at home is a wash when it comes to which side benefits so we need not even go there
So are Heartland MTs actually working this week?

Do they have any work for you to do or is everything being sent to the centers in India?

Yes. I earn almost $40,000 working 32 hours a week. nm
nm
I make about $1,500 a month working about 20 hours per week.

Believe me, I'm not bragging or slamming anybody at all.  No way.  I'm frustrated with my own income because I'd like to make more.  I'm willing to put in more hours to do it, too.  Honestly, I'm not that fast.  I have one very small local account and one small MTSO I subcontract for.  None of it is verbatim, it's clean up the grammar as you go, which totally slows me down.

I won't work for a national any more because I couldn't make enough money there.  I wasn't willing to tough it out for three months until I could make their line counts, especially when they had me on their worst accounts, pools of hundreds of dictators per hospital so I couldn't use my expander, and a new account every week.

I've said before that if I'm going to do MT, it's going to be on my terms.  I won't chain myself to a desk or be "on call" all day long waiting for work to come in.  Nationals don't pay you to sit there and wait for work.  That's bull.  Being on call IS working.  Other businesses pay their "on call" people at least minimum wage.  They skirt around the issue trying to use SE and IC terminology, but it's just a way of paying us less to be at their beck and call.

Don't give up on MT entirely.  You'll find your fit.  It just takes some searching.

Been working for Cardioscribe for a year, never once did not get paid within one week of end of pay
Instead of complaining why don't you do, as I did, and just ask. The line counts are being finalized now and the bank deposit will be made tomorrow. As you mentioned, in past posts pay day is the 7th and 22nd, so start the complaining tomorrow if we do not get paid. I have worked here a year and never once did not get paid within 7 days of close of a pay period. That is pretty good compared to other places I have worked for that took 2 and 3 weeks to get paid for a period of time. For those of you that like to say nasty little things about Cardioscribe, quite often, please do us all a favor and find yourself another job and good luck to you. This will blow your mind I am sure, but I am not afraid to backup what I post with my name. Sheryl Cantrell. You are very welcome to contact me if you have questions and apparently do not know how to ask the right person to get answers. I know Tonya posted her name, email and phone number and none of you who seem so unhappy working here have contacted her. As I told her today, there is just some people that like to stir up trouble no matter where you work. If you can find a place that treats you with more respect, kindness, and never a problem getting paid, please go and be happy.
Yes, we have had server issues this week. Dictaphone engineers are working on it.
Have you never worked anywhere else where this has happened? This used to happen in-house where I worked too, at least once or twice a year. Machines do need upgrading and repair from time to time. And just for clarity...they did send out emails about the server issues and also about Jesse leaving. Get over it already. geez.
I agree. I was thanked for working extra the end of last week and told of some MTs on my job type
who were out due to illness or vacation and that we were getting behind.  Same as the message this morning....the minutes were building up.  Seems things are a bit desperate at this point and we all just need to quit trying to read into the situation and pitch in and get the work back under control.  OUR company needs OUR help, and we need to pitch in 200% or we may very well find ourselves without an account to work on.  I don't think it was a threat this morning - I think it could happen.
Must we choose either 8, 16 or 24 hours. Why would they want someone only working 8 hours a week.
That is less than SE are required now.
Full time with Transtech is both. 40 hours per week and 5500 lines per week.
x
Nope .. email on 1/18 promised "within the next week." Here we are, 1 week later and no info.
x
The minimum is 5500 per week, NOT 6600 per week. I think you made a typo. :)
NM
DQS payroll
full-time people fill out a timesheet online. statutory MTs don't.
payroll
not dure what cmpany - but if you had a contract and it states a pay date or pay time frame - you can take steps to get you money an dinterest - legally they are bound to stick to the scheudle they gave you - go to the department of labors web site and file a complaint - they will get the message.
payroll
It would depend on the account you are typing on. The account I was on was paid weekly by direct deposit; however, there were other accounts that were paid bi monthly.
SPI Payroll
I also got that e-mail and even though I appreciate the heads up, it is still an inconvenience for me. My checks are deposited in a credit union account which has limited hours and this will entail me taking time away from my work schedule, not to mention a 20+ minute drive each way, to get my check deposited and then of course having to wait for it to clear before the funds to be available. I am not going to get too excited yet, unless it becomes a recurrent problem.

Payroll
They never told me I would get paid in 30 days. I do not need the money that bad since I have benefits/salary through my husband, but I can totally understand your situation if you totally depend on your paycheck once a week, twice a week, or semi-monthly. Getting paid in 30 days is very hard. You do not want to get behind on your bills and ruin your credit.

This company is Synthescribe. I think they have been going through lots of personnel changes and that's why they have changed their name. So far they have been very nice to me. I'm supposed to start training next week, so I shall see how it goes!
Payroll

Many companies use payroll companies and they are just a number waiting for their work to be done.  You dont generally dictate to the payroll company that you have MTs who are just dying to file their taxes on January 15....which is what y'all are doing I guess.

If you have your last pay stub, most companies have YTD info on there.

If you're an IC and not an employee, getting 1099s instead of W2s, you should have records that support the 1099, and therefore already have those totals as well.

Or just relax.... you will get them :)

It isn't important...

which account I work for.  I have worked for the VA account in the past.  I worked to help out with the backlog.  In 2 days I typed 3000 lines.  They were my first 2 days on that account.  Hope that answers your question.

and this is important because.....??
x
if it is important -
They outsource.  Apparently have set up shop in at least two cities in India, looking at Phillipines, have 2600 transcriptionists in India.
important
I have a message already from the recruiter. since your e/m isn't working for me, can i call you in about 30 min? (got to go do something).
and ... this is IMPORTANT
You do get paid by the line, NOT by the hour, and the only way you get credit for all the lines in the report is if you do a full listen from start to finish. If you are filling in blanks, no matter how many blanks, you get credit for only 15 lines. I am going broke and I can't understand my manager because he is in Bangalore, India. Also, there is NO paid training and I had to start working as an MT although I was hired as a QA. It took me over a month for my so-called promotion to QA. So I made a LOT more money as an MT than I am making as a QA because I make no money on reports with blanks.
That's why it's important...
to wait until you're released from QA at MDI and are free to type as many reports as you like before quitting another job.

But that's just common sense, no matter what the circumstances. *shrug*

Something VERY important to consider!!
If you really to to try to fix what has gone terribly wrong in the MT industry, you have to be willing to be educated about how our system of government works, and how it might mean that a UNION is not the only answer, if an answer at all.

Seriously, stop and think. Supposedly the Democratic party (and this is not all political so chill) stands for the average joe right? Then why did Clinton with support of the Republicans sign NAFTA into law - which was the vehicle that drove our MT jobs to India?

In other words, this was done to provide the cheap labor Americans WON'T (and can't) provide.

The reason? Obviously to bump PROFITS for the corporations who provide the service.

Now I don't suggest the above is the whole story, but it's a critical point and if we in this discussion don't understand that part of the problem is that we are where we are because it was INTENDED, then starting a UNION in and of itself is not going to be a fix-all.

Our country is in an economic free fall - no one knows if or when we will stabilize. Keep this in mind, too, if you are hoping for a magic solution. There may not be one.

Being in this field for 22+ years, I have read the writing on the wall.

GO FORWARD with plans for a Union but understand there are many many factors at work here.

In the meantime, how many of you here have contacted YOUR representatives in Congress to ask about regulation for this industry? Don't wait for a union, or for someone else to do this simple act: Look up the numbers and call them. Follow up with a letter. There is power in numbers and if they hear from us throughout the nation they will take note.

Just my 2 cents.

Best wishes for a better 2009.
Exactly. Seriously important.
.
Please submit $29.99 with next payroll
We encourage AT&T, as you can get multiple lines for $29.99, but there are other companies that have come out with comparable prices. Then, fax the bill to Rochelle and submit it with the second payroll of the month. Thanks a lot, Liz
Medscript payroll??
Does Medscript out of Naples, Florida only pay direct deposit?? I got a call from them wanting me to work PT as an IC but can't get anyone to answer the phone when I call and I have sent emails.  I want to accept this position, but I prefer a paper check. Anybody know??
payroll checks

is there anyone here who is as tired as I am of bounced checks, late checks, etc.

I finally have someone who pasy but evry three weeks the checks come and it is getting ridculous.  They held the first one for four weeks then mailed it out, and now it just gets later and later- I have two others I work for I sent myinvoice and got a check within three days.  is there a logical reason for this over and over again?

TTS payroll issues
Same here for me. I thought it was just me.
Leslie is payroll
...but now since most of the managers are gone or lost their titles (and money) she is being used to run accounts.  That's the biggest problem over there, people with absolutely NO transcription experience making the rules.
Outsourcing for HR and Payroll
How many transcription companies have partnered with ADP, a global conglomerate listed on the NYSE.  Transcription companies, et al,  are turning their Human Resource and Payroll functions over to ADP.  Now in my opnion, an mouse does not partner with an elephant.  Partnership????  Thousands of ADP accounts were already invaded by hackers this year.  What is going on?  Is there a gobble-up in the offing for some of the smaller, more independent transcription companies?  Is this why they are partnering?  Is this why were are being treated as disposable commodities?  Are they all going to sell out to foreign companies listed in the US as corporations, but actually foreign owned and controlled?  Any insight would be appreciated.  E-mails welcomed.
Proveros Payroll
Has anyone out there ever worked or is currently working for Proveros? They say one gets paid after 30 days. It has been six weeks and I am looking to get paid. I feel I've given them ample time to pay me. I wrote an email to the gal in payroll, and she has not replied yet. I would think she would apply right away.
Payroll Question
Out of curiosity, I am asking for input.  At Focus/Nuance MTs are ORDERED to show up for their shift or they are fired.  Many show up for work every day, no work is available.  The manager won't give them additional work/more lines so they sit for 4-8 hours with MAYBE 300 lines a day.  Is it legal to do that without paying some kind of hourly wage?  Other companies I know will pay $10 an hour as "compensation" for the time you wasted since there were no lines available.  Is it legal to ORDER someone to go to work and then not pay them?  If it is illegal, where can MTs go to report this?
What do you mean by cutting payroll?
Thanks!
Sometimes it is hard for payroll to get
things ready early with the same amount of work required in less time.
Have you tried their payroll dept???

payroll question with TT

I am newly hired, old company being outsourced to Spheris, and I forgot to ask if they offer direct deposit.  Any idea on this.. Thanks.. So glad to be with this company.  The comments about TT are almost too good to be true... and I can't wait for the computer to get here.

New payroll company
I didn't stay to actually get paid by the new company a year or so ago but I can say they were dumber than a box of rocks, sent me state tax forms for Arizona which is a mere 1500 miles or so from where I pay state taxes.  Another huge issue with them was the paperwork wanting permission to do a background and credit check.....after having been employed for 5 years!!!  In any event, seemed to me if anyone was going to be doing a background and credit check it should be the employee and don't blow smoke by telling me it is for security purposes.  That goes to the so-called Patriot Act which covers everything government and big business wants to do to squeeze us a little more.
Depends on what's important to you.

Low pay, no raises, deceitful but polite about it (hard to get your vacation time, say they will not bounce you around but do, say they will customize to what you want but don't, etc.), expect you do to a lot of free work, very top-heavy, volunteered AAMT Employer of the Year (don't know by whom, I was not given a vote). It probably also depends on what accounts you are on, whether you do acute care or multispecialty clinic, and who your team lead is. Communication: Very one-sided; lots of e-mails, etc.  from them for you to read/take action/respond to (unpaid),  but not so interested in you communicating with them and giving you timely answers; I've been blown off A LOT. They are VERY into AAMT and CMT certification, but don't pay well for it. Oh, and they offshore. When their system goes down, you don't get paid and can't take sick or vacation time to make up for it (was down for 2 days last week).

On the plus side: Good insurance benefits, easy platform, my accounts were good for the most part, pay on time.

My opinion: If you're experienced, you could probably do better. If not, good place to get more experience. Hope this helps.

I think the most important question is
whether it is good money for YOU.

:)
While the work is important,
please keep in mind that you're doing it to earn a living. While it is often said that it takes about 3 months to get up to speed on an account, it seems that you have some sense of the situation already.

If the finances aren't working out, I would start looking. If it's not a win-situation for the employer and the employee, it's not the right job. Good luck.
Doesn't seem too important to get especially

if you have to get CEU's and renew. I already do that as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I don't need the additional expense and there doesn't seem to be a financial benefit.

Thanks for all your responses.

the most important question is how
important is it for you to work from home versus out of the home - with today's escalating gas prices, figuring in everything related to traveling to and from work, dress clothes for work, meals, day care, etc. etc. etc, you must weigh the pros and cons - for some it is not enough whereas others find it very worthwhile.
Yes, you are so right. The account will be important. nm
xx
It's important to ask if you will have 20,000 a pay period
xx
and I never claimed to be more important than others
LOL LOL LOL. How do you know what is FAIR to you and others? You don't know me. LOL. Stop analyzing so much and stop twisting people's words around. I bet you're one of them gossip-busy bodies that have nothing to do interrupt other people's lives. Take care of your own business.
Could I please ask for an important opinion?,,,,,sm
I work for a great company as an IC, and love the work, my bosses have been great (been there about a year), love the accounts, platform, etc., but something bugs me.  In the beginning, I told them strictly, verbally and in writing, that I needed to really be flexible hour-wise, I have 3 kids and also take care of my 90-year-old mom part-time, etc.  They said sure, jump aboard, very flexible.  Okay, lots of days they are okay, but we have dedicated queues and at times I know i am working TWO JOBS instead of part-time, I signed on for approximately 25 hours a week.  I have a fabulous line count to show for it, but I keep getting roped into these 12-hour work days, 1200 lines or more, and I am getting wiped out.  They are great about so many things and the pay is fantastic, but should I complain, what would you do??  THANKS!!!
Thanks for sharing, very important!!!
Though I did not apply at MDIT, I can relate. United Transcription out of North Carolina used ExpressScribe and MPWord (not MTWord) plus a FTP. The lady VP was not a transcriber so had not ideaaaaaa.

With this setup most of the demographics are entered by the MT (remember her/him making production, not paid unless something on the page).

There were plus 15 different popup screens to click, unclick, delete, type in name, plus flipping back and forth between window screens. Really ridiculous. These things should be put in the system by programmers not the MT EACH REPORT. Image with very small reports, making nothing and those Keystrokes are not paid.

There was no hard copy of doctor roster, so had to scroll through entire list trying to figure out the name referenced. Equally hard to even figure out first letter sometimes. I was told, why didn't you look it up I said I could not even figure out the first letter.

It was a ridiculous way to work. She was probably a good person but she just had not IDEA what MTs need, are about, about platforms. Just got the impression she had not idea how to process pertinence of something as she had bad-mouthed previous MT or MTs during the interview, has general bad thoughts, I told her she was wrong, MTs work their guts out, they are not lazy and on and on, I said they make nothing and go to great efforts to get the answer (I volunteer on 2 Word Help Boards.) Pissed me off her idea what an MT is about.Like sneering (sp?
Wow! Thank you for writing this. This is very important
Yes, I do depend on a paycheck being timely and so do my bill collectors. My rent cannot be late either. And I have a small child to feed. Thanks for letting me know the history of this! Now back to the drawing-board for my job search :).
