I'm fairly new to KS, but I know they are adding
2 new accounts by February, so there should be lots of work.   The account I am on is fairly new and still working out all the kinks, but right now there is a lot of work available on it too, so you might want to talk to your lead or Lee and ask for more work.

I was also offering my own experience with my particular company.  He was pointing out the expenses of the MTSOs and I was pointing out the growing expenses of the MT.  In other words, I was sharing my viewpoint as well.

are you adding your names/addresses into
your abbreviation file so you don't have to look up the same name/address twice? That is what I do. With an MD with multiple locations, I will name it something like SmithDown for Dr. Smith, Downtown or JonesLake for Dr. Jones at Lake Forest. You would still have to cut and paste some in the cc field or you might ask operations if there is a way to build a spreadsheet document and add to it as you come across new names/addresses.
Adding, you do have to work the shift SM
you commit to.  If you are wanting flexibility as far as being able to leave in the middle of a shift and make up the time later, you would have to negotiate a split shift with them in the beginning and see if they would go for that.  As far as my experience goes, I did 8 hours with a lunch break and turned in 40 hours per week.  I'm sure if there was an emergency I could have flexed my time for 1 day but if you need flex time every day for picking up kids, etc. you should mention that in the interview and see if they can accommodate.  Once you commit to a schedule it is difficult to get it changed.
what do you mean "toggle over." and what is your formula for adding it up? Help!

Adding insult to injury
My coffee cup came apart in the dishwater today.
Yes, still hiring. They are adding two more hospitals before the end of the year and are looking
for like another 30 or 40 MTs.
...and perhaps adding a statement to contract before signing
outlining course of action (fines, etc.)in the event. If they have a problem with that - well...

Why is it we do not have our own contracts to present to companies? Two areas of concern - guarenteed work and failure to pay.
Excel logs and adding up job lengths (sm)

This is for the MTs who have to keep an Excel log for jobs and need to add up the minutes transcribed at the end of the day.


I've done some footwork today and discovered a Microsoft page which tells you how to enter times into cells:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266691


I haven't figured how to automate it, but basically Excel recognizes minutes and hours if entered in the following format:  hh:mm:ss.  So if you have a 5 minute 12 second job, you would enter 00:05:12 in that cell.  Then at the end of the day you enter the formula =Sum and the cell range (the link gives specific example) and it adds up your minutes and seconds automatically for you. 


I thought I'd share.  I've been adding my account by hand because I didn't know how to sum with minutes and seconds till now.

We will be adding that feature back, we are just in transition of migrating over to our newer
version of the forum software.  We appreciate your patience.
I wonder what the quality of the work is like adding all those people to accounts. I agree. They
will lose accounts this way and MTs will move on. No one is going to sit around and make no money and then have QA breathing down your neck when you are thrown into all these accounts. So no one listens in New York. What is the problem with them.
RE: Old eyes/new screen
Are any of you having trouble with focusing on the new white screen.  I've been in DOS for so long I forgot what a strain the white can be.  If you're having trouble, how are you handling it (and not losing time transcribing)?

What I read was that they opened a center in India BUT were adding work for them and keeping their

You will need to change it in screen preferences...sm
On your desktop right click and pick properties. From that window pick appearance. From there pick advanced and then you will have to click on the window that says window text and you will see in the middle a line that says item: window and to the right of that you will see a box that is white in color. Click on the little arrow thare and it will give you some colors or you can click other and then pick the exact color you want. From there once you find the color you want click okay and the color should stick for all the text windows in all your applications. I wish I could show you screen shots of this, but if you need to email me for more clarification.

They are d/l in the background, but once the next demo screen comes up,
it takes forever for the actual typing screen to come up. Frustrating.
What companies pay for demographic screen?
I am not aware of any, but have not worked for more than a few. Just curious.

so no platform, no patient info screen, etc....
I really like working for companies that have a platform. It seems to be faster for me. I type for a company with no platform and I have to download FTP files. It seems to slow me down.
I don't think so. What you see on paper or on the screen in black and white.
If it were me, I certainly would ask specifically the HR person or MTSO. Pick up the phone, dial their number, and ask. Never take a job, unless you know how and what you are getting paid for.

I do believe it means without spaces, but I could be wrong. Things change so fast in this industry, what it means one day, does not necessarily have the same definition tomorrow.
I do the same. I am constantly looking at the screen while listening and transcribing. sm
I can't even imagine having to go over every single word again.  It is easy to proof while you transcribe.  If there was something particularly difficult or troubling, I would go over that portion again, but never the entire thing. 
They got the dreaded "blue screen of death.

Go to bottom right hand side of screen ....
Above where the time is shown. See the magnifying glass and the percentage? You probably bumped it to 110% (I accidentally do it all the time). Just use the pull-down menu and change it back to 100%.

I'm lol'ing because I did this several times and rebooted before I figured out what I was doing and how to fix it.

I am sitting here looking at an empty screen also so dont feel alone. What is going on with MQ out

of work like this. I have 4 backups and am still out. I guess they are hot and heavy on this turnaround time being nonexistent so they are over hiring now and we will look at more empty screens.

Hi, Unfamiliar. An already typed report comes up on the screen. You listen SM
just as you always did to the dictation and hop the cursor along the sentences and down the page with the dictation, making corrections as needed, such as correcting formatting, names, spelling, and wrong words, correcting and adding punctuation, filling in blanks, and so on.

It seems to require somewhat different skills from straight transcribing--ability to read and decide what and how to edit fast and accurately are needed, in addition to the ability to listen and type. I have the audio speed cranked up at or close to maximum on dictators I'm familiar with and whiz through those reports. Some make more editing and love it, some make less and hate it.

But all produce a lot more lines editing than transcribing. My company pays exactly half the transcribing rate for editing, feeling the average person produces about twice as many lines per minute of dictation on our platform, but some produce significantly more. So when you see someone fussing about how she's going broke earning only 60% of her transcription cents-per-line rate for editing, it's possible that she's significantly below average in her ability to edit quickly. Or something else is wrong, because at current pay rates a competent Editor should be making a decent or even better living.
Just a little slower than DQS in bringing jobs up, filling out screen. (sm)
Not a lot really, and the plus side of being able to research other documents by a particular physician or patient pretty much makes up for it.

Just thought I had heard something and was hoping there was an even better system coming about.

I use Meditech with them, but it is Client Server version. Not the old blue screen! sm
I actually like the program and I really like ShortHand but I converted my abbreviations from another program into there so I did not have to start over.
IMO, it's just easier to be rude hiding behind the guise of a screen name. The hateful ones here
It's likely that the hostile MTs that constantly spew negative remarks are the same ones who are too passive to speak up for themselves in the real world. They are basically cowards that take crap all day then come here and anonymously take their pinned up frustrations out on everyone else.

I have seen this on many message boards, but for whatever reason, MT Stars is the absolute worst for this. Isolation must be a huge factor. Some of these gals just need to get out once in a while. JMO

I also get paid gross line, which helps, but very easy to use!
I'm lookin for part-time work (about 3-4 hrs daily) after 13 years of full-time, anyone know of a
company that is hiring flexible part-time?  I'm starting a career in real estate but don't want to totally quit transcription, but I think most places require 25 hours a week and I cant work weekends, as real estate sales are the biggest on the weekend with open houses and people off work to shows homes to.  If you know of a place I'd sure appreciate the info.  Thanks!
MDI-Maryland is an excellent company, pay on time all the time, great line rate.
I left also because I went out and got my own client(s).
They are very nice people.

The only negative I can think of were the e-mails from the owner say work, work, work, we are out of TAT.

Other than that, which is very minor, it was a good experience.

I have one full-time job and 2 part-time jobs. It can be tricky at times, sm
but at least I now have plenty of work always. I have some big financial goals, and right now that seems to be the only way to accomplish it.  I can't see any reason why it would not be legal -- why would you say that?  I am cheating no one, except myself (out of sleep and a social life).  Fortunately, I am single with no children or anything.  I cannot imagine doing this if I had a family.  At least my dogige understands. 
I've been there quite a while, pay on time, growth spurt right now, so good time to get on board,
new accounts and lots of work, and before someone says it, I'm not management, just an employee.
