In my opinion what you make is confidential and I have seen people get fired for discussing rates.

That all goes along in confidentiality agreements. I am in agreement with you though..it really is not anyone's business. If they want to know, they need to ask the company. The company will probably tell them.

Well, Medivoxx's HR people need to be fired
it sounds like. That's CRAZY. No company in my 20 years has made me jump through hoops like that & transcribe that many 'test' documents. You can tell from a couple of reports & maybe a multiple choice questionnaire if the candidate has experience or not - not to mention checking references... I guess I will cross Medivoxx off my list until they learn how the MT hiring/testing process works.

is not true.  They are a very nice company.  They have benefits which include PTO and sick time. 
If I get fired because I can't make paycheck with Transcend - will I get unemployment?
I work for Transcend Services and loved it at first but for the past few months, the work has been so slow on my account that I've been way short of making my required $450 a pay check for PT status. I've gotten two warnings that I may be terminated if I don't bring up my lines, but there is nothing I can do -- the work simply isn't there.

If they fire me like they're threatening to do, will I qualify for unemployment while I look for work? Will the laws of the state I live in or the state Transcend is in (Georgia) apply, since I work at home?

Also, as it stands, I'm not even making minimum wage. How can I figure what I would qualify for with unemployment?

Help/experience/suggestions appreciated. I'm frustrated over lack of work, inability to get backup accounts, and a practically nonexistent paycheck after 8 years in the industry with perfect QAs. Grrr.

CBay fired more people via conference call.
...including one that they tried to get rid of in December but felt compelled to keep.

poor quality, poor work ethics, cherry picking, disappearing for days on end, not covering their shifts or line counts, crazy HR people (both were nuts and evil). 


Good and bad at every company including KST, MQ, Spheris, Transcend, etc. 


oh yea they fired a couple of people for sexual harrassment and breaking into mt's computers.

companies pay various amounts per line, but it also is important to see
what their line consists of. We pay based on a 65 character line count.

I pushed for 10.5 and got 10. They had advertised for 8 to 9.5. Never know until you ask! They can always tell you no. Yes, since we know raises are nearly unheard of you need to ask for what you can afford to make from this point forward. Good luck to you!

You hear a few good things, a lot of bad. They have a gag order not to say bad things. Some of the TL/ROMs are good, some are -marginal. Get everything in writing, it changes daily.

U can try discussing it with mgmt but you will just

be discriminated against because u do not think what they do is the best thing since fried grits.  If the program is so wonderful, why all the problems, the notes on the private board about major issues never resolved.  Why does it break down every day?  Why are line counts so hard to get?   Say a word to mgmt about anything and u pay the price by getting nothing but garbage for dictators and garbage accounts.  


They could save a lot of money by trashing this program and starting from scratch cuz MLS could actually produce some work on something decent. 


 


Plus discussing some of these things
is confidential. For instance pay. If I were to publicly say what cpl I was offered by a certain company, I believe that would be confidential. If I should not discuss this with people I know personally, I would really feel uncomfortable discussing it on a board even though I would not have my name here. I guess it is just some MT ethics (like me), will give general information but for the personal details safer to refer you to the companies. Good luck in your search.

If you hear docs discussing it,
I'd be very cautious to work for them.  Chances are, they're going to fly through that dictation faster than a speeding bullet.  You might be better off with an MTSO that pays by the minute rather than a private office.

embarrassed that I work in this field sometime and unfortunately they are all around us too. Not all MTs are that dense.
You people make me SICK!
One persons thanks the company, another asks a questions, another calls her paranoid........ you really need to find something to do.. .....a good beginning would be to treat others in writing and actions as you would like to be treated. 
Would it be worth discussing this with them before being hired that you want to train on the account
you will be working on and wont stay if you get put on accounts noone else wants. Would that make a difference to be upfront and tell them that.
The only people that are going to make it with VR or ASR are MTs that are nearing retirement and

dont mind the lower wages and who probably already have problems with muscles and tendons from years of MTing or others who as people said are slower transcribers or part time people just supplementing their income who just want to plug along and make a few bucks. Anyone who is self supporting and needs a good income will not make it on those rates without killing themselves and if one company gets away with it they all will because I am sure MQ is next when they come out with their new pay plan and ASR rates and then they will all follow suit. Why send this work overseas and then have to edit it again so I guess they just hope they have everyone behind the 8 ball.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but where did I post that or what did I say to make you feel that way? That was not my intention. and remember anyone can post as OP. Many of these comments that say OP are not mine. Just clarifying.
I don't understand why people make posts
telling people to stop whining. Isn't that the whole purpose? We work remotely and as a result we need this catalyst to communicate with one and other. If you don't like people venting then YOU should stay off!!
Maybe they want to make sure people double check their spelling.
If you are not sure of how they are spelled, you really should look them up.

They are well known brands and easy to look up.

Doesn't seem a valid point to me. Most people can make 250 lph sm

so why not do it making 8-9 cpl (or more) and make $24-27 per hour?  I don't think $15/hour is much nowadays, but that is just my opinion.  I made that 10 years ago in an office setting -- hate to think of going backwards, although I do reailze that is the trend in transcription nowadays, sad to say.


I just hope he/she (and everyone) finds something that pays more than that, especially for IC work. 


No, not worried, just never heard of benefits for self employed people. That would make them
employees so I dont think you can give those benefits to SE or IC unless the law has been changed.
Here's a news flash for you... many people make MORE money editing....sm

in the same # of hours in a day than they do straight transcribing.  I know because I and others with the company I work for do.   When I was straight transcribing I averaged making $12 an hour.  Now that I'm editing about 90% of the time I'm averaging making $13.50 an hour.  Now THAT pays the bills faster, and I'm still working the same # of hours a week! 


Just because someone posts that VR is the wave of the future doesn't mean they're in management - they're just being realistic about what is happening in this industry (just as they referred to the copier and PCs).  


Of course if you think it's really going to hurt you to do VR then perhaps you should go back to an IBM typewriter and get your own accounts.  After all - using a PC and expanders is helping you get paid for work you're not actually transcribing (yup, think about those expanders - I bet you're not fussing over getting paid to have those kick in instead of having to type out those words, or consider the header information that blows in for you from an ADT feed that you're not having to manually type). 


People do make mistakes sometimes. Maybe it was an oversight or plain ole mistake
on someone's part, an unintentional mistake. It is possible.

It is MY information.  That is like telling me I cannot tell someone what hair color I have.  It is MY info, garnered from MY hard work.  The money now belongs to me, not the company.  If you still have a problem with this, then tell someone what you made last month.  That would be YOUR old information, had been your information for a month and should be YOUR information to do with whatever you want.

business!! I hate it when people have the hutzpah to ask flat out what someone makes. If they want to volunteer it, fine. But its rude to just ask someone. And if they give you a figure, chances are huge that its bogus. Ask for a pay range - fine. Proper business etiquette. Buts its totally ignorant to just ask someone what they make - a complete stranger - and then get pissed when they POLITELY tell you they don't wanna give you that info. Get professional! You might make more $$.

It is confidential information - here is why.
Not every MT has the same experience level so, those with more experience are paid a better line rate in most instances. It is the MT's responsibility to negotiate or at least try to negotiate their line rate and what line rate they are willing to work for. Not company pays a base rate to every MT or QA person.

This of course is my opinion and the way I do business. Some may agree, some may not, it really doesn't matter. This is the way it is!

I was laid off from Focus QA about a year ago.  However, they have reorganized and rehired me recently.  The money is great and is much more than the hourly job I used to have.  Yes, they do have day shift.  They will pretty much work with whatever hours you can work.  The team leads are Americans now.  Good luck.

in my opinion, you are not breaking confidentiality in any way letting fellow MTs know. It does not say in this post that you work for this small national or you work where the account is supposed to be going. So, if this is true, you are not breaking any confidentiality agreements.

Companies release and gain contracts all the time. Maybe this small national will lose one account but gain another. It happens every day.

I don't think there is any reason for panic or for you to carry a heavy heart, unless you work for one of these 2 companies. Then, you may need to think twice about saying a word.

If you do talk - do not mention names and do not mention the other company.
