Sure. To the suits but not to the MTs.
x
I liked the suits at first -
until I found out what monsters they were.
that's right, the Suits
I meant my company's top executives, who think we should be able to produce 60% more, and were probably told this by other Suits. I'm sure none of them have any transcription experience.
No suits here....
... I don't even own a suit. Well, actually I do, but I've outgrown them, if you know what I mean.... But I'm just a minion and proud of it. I've been a manager and a supervisor. No thanks. The money was nice but it cost me too much.

I only post what I've been told by people I trust, and based on my own experience. And, as I always say, others' mileage may vary....
I think most here would agree that going to the suits with any of our (sm)
problems ends up being useless. However, these boards are a good place to vent a little steam. If it weren't for a little venting once in a while, I reckon it'd be fairly easy for many of us to finally lose our cool, go Postal on our supes, and end up on the 6:00 news getting dragged off in handcuffs.
I believe it was actually a big meeting of suits,
ya know, the real thinkers and shakers, at some annual meeting or something. I know of one manager who had to slink back to the office - there were offices in those days - with his tail between his legs, as the word beat of the  monkeys beat him back to the office. It was horrible. Happened probably a good 10 years ago, though, so its been their mentality for a long time.
Suits, I hope you know
how serious this is, and how profoundly you are impacting the lives of many hardworking MTs and their families.  You are going to have a very unhappy workforce. Not a good thing.
Suits Salaries and Perks

What someone said on another thread got me to wondering about the salaries of those at the top.  I googled the head of Transcend and came up with this on a Forbes article.   Not too shabby.  This was for 2007.

Salary $250,000.00
Bonus $0.00
Other Annual Compensation $0.00
Long term incentive plan payouts $0.00
Restricted stock awards $0.00
Security underlying options $0.00
All other compensation $0.00
Option awards $ $55,250.00
Non-equity incentive plan compensation $87,500.00
Change in pension value and nonqualified deferred compensation earnings $0.00
Total Compensation $392,750.00

Webmedx SUITS, read this
We know you read the boards. During the call tomorrow when you tell everyone just how much pay is cut we want to hear how much you've cut your own pay.

You've told us how efficient and productive this ISR technology makes us. So as we're getting more efficient and productive, you must certainly be getting more efficient and productive. Therefore, we'll want you to tell us about your own pay cut on the phone call on September 22.

Also, we want an answer as to why we never get annual raises BEFORE this economy went to pot. What was your excuse then when you talked about how business was booming and you went and bought a transcription school? Why didn't you give your employees a raise?

You market yourself as the REMARKABLE leader in the industry, touting your status as hiring only domestic workers. Well, wouldn't it be remarkable to give your employees regular raises? What's remarkable about yet another company who pays MTs crap wages, doesn't regularly give raises, has low work volumes, and is cutting pay? That's pretty run-of-the-mill in my opinion.

Are you making what you made 10 years ago? No? Then why should we be making what me made 10 years ago? Remember, we're working for the REMARKABLE Webmedx. Do something remarkable to earn that adjective, please.
pay as usual!
Companies pay when hospitals pay welcome of the world of Mt!
just the usual with KS
It is nice to get an answer. It is nice that KS does not offshore. But what is not so nice is finding out that the person giving you the information may be misrepresenting themselves and may not actually be a recruiter for that company. So if this is the case, how can you know that they are not telling you lies about the company????
You mean, just BS as usual.
nm
The usual gig.....
Poor work flow management. Zero communication. Don't want to hear your input on anything. Whether or not you have a good or bad experience there is pretty hit and miss I'd say depending on all the variables. Certainly not a well-thought-out equation by them.
As usual, another one who knows
nothing about the poster. How was I insulting and what makes you so sure I'm not an MT? This Army Brat obviously has some issues with her company and is very paranoid that her work is being directed away from her. Maybe she should talk to her supe and not assume things she doesn't know.
Check the Laws and lost suits
Anything you post on a public chatboard or in a chatroom can be used against you by your employer as reason for termination if they so desire, and you will lose in court if you try to sue them. Plenty of these suits lost since the Internet started.

I worked for a bad legal transcription firm for 3 wks - fired after I posted on a legal chatboard (along with tons of others) - within hrs of posting some stuff. Definitely was why - no doubt. I then began researching whether this is legal - and by god it is. I used an anon name and no email. This co later had all neg posts regarding his co removed from the site.

As to this chatboard - the co I just left had many, many posts removed because they did not like their content.

Fortunately most cos recognize the need of folks to vent and don't want to be bothered. But some of these smaller cos really monitor posts, and mgmt posts as if they were MTs in response to neg posts or just to toot their own horn.
The suits and facilities often control dictation, not

MQ good until Jan. 2006, when the devils in suits took over. nm

That's the attitude that keeps the suits rolling in cash.
=
good, let them do all the India work, and take all the hits for law suits...
I wish they would monopolize the India market and totally stick with that...

I also posted an article about this a few weeks back, even with pictures of the offices in India (lot nicer than here).

hope they put all their money into it and then when technology takes all our jobs, they will have nothing.

Medquist, hate it or not, has invested rather in the technology, thereby will be the leaders in that. if I worked there I would train and learn everything I could about working with that technology because that eventually, in my opinion, will drive even Indian MTs into unemployment.
WHy should I care if you are impressed or not. It it suits me, I don't give a darn if anyone
+
It is the real deal. Back to not every company suits every one.
I have been there 2+ years and never had any problems. I make good money, have a good account, don't get bounced around, and have good management. The recruiter is very good to try and answer your questions or you can email me and I will tell you what I know.
"The Suits" is the proper term for these people.
There are Suits in every industry.  They are the MBAs and they consider business a giant chess board.  So much fun to move all the little pieces around and see what happens.  Don't be afraid to sacrifice your pawns.
Annoying, Condescending, Uppity Snakes in Suits

Just the usual cowards who have nothing SM

better to do than rip other people apart so they don't have to acknowledge that they have their own deficiencies.  Instead of actually speaking to someone with their company and having them know what kind of people they have working for them, they come here anonny and post the same tired stuff all the time and talk about how great they are in comparison to other people they work with, how the company should value them, blah blah blah.

The loudest ones are usually the most lacking in skills.

Ok, so this is hopefully just worse than usual? sm
Do I have to let them know to hop on at other times, or is it understood that it's necessary?

thanks much for your help!!!
Yes, one to her, one to office as usual.
x
Thanks so much...As usual trying to do it the hard way
xx
Yes, still here - Business as usual SM
No major changes since Acusis buyout. Same pay, same clients, same platform, matching 401K now in effect. No reason to *jump ship* that I can think of unless swimming is something you like to do for aerobic exercise.
Who was this with? I am looking and want to avoid! nm

Avoid them!!!!!
This is probably one of the worst MT companies out there. I worked for them a year ago for only a month. They are ALL in India, including account managers, QA and tech support. They treat their MTs horribly. When I was getting 98% and above QA scores, they kept telling me that I needed to improve or I would be off the account, and I know that I'm far from the only one who had that experience with them. After they told me that, I quit immediately. I have several years of experience and I had never been so insulted in my life! I could see them saying that if I was scoring below 98%, but I wasn't! Their software is horrible and it was always crashing, causing me to lose several reports that tech support was never able to help me get back. There are MUCH better companies out there. As someone else said, don't waste your time with this joke of a company.
Avoid them!!!
I worked for Focus about a year and a half ago for one month and ended up quitting. While their main office is in Massachusetts, you will be dealing directly with India. The QA, account managers, etc. are ALL in India and they treat their MTs HORRIBLY! I could never understand them when they were trying to train me, so I never learned how to use their software, and they would get annoyed with me if I ever asked for help. I never got below 98% on QA and they kept telling me that I needed to improve or I would be off the contract. I was always running out of work and they kept harassing me about why I was not getting many lines done..duh!!! Also, when I was there, they deducted pay for errors. I quit right away. I don't know if things have changed since I left, but that is how it was when I was there. Proceed with caution.
AVOID THEM!
I worked for Cymed for a year, and then they were bought out by SPI, which is a Phillipine phone company. A few months after CyMed was bought out by SPI, I quit. They don't care at all about their MTs in the US and treat them horribly. Communication there is horrible. A ton of people left, including everybody in management. They don't pay for spaces and lines are VERY hard to make in an 8 hour shift. Before I left, I was always running out of work. They were always screwing up on my pay checks and would never return my phone calls or e-mails. They are the worst company I have ever worked for and I am so glad to be out! The reason you probably got an e-mail from them is because so many people have quit and they are losing accounts and desperately need MTs. I would totally avoid them!
Exactly! There is no way to avoid them!
ESLs are everywhere and are on just about every single account anywhere you go! If you don't want to do ESLs at all, you may be in the wrong field! We all deal with ESLs almost every day!
AVOID TTS!!!!

Awful company!!!!!  Their manager I guess is what she was - ****- I went to the bathroom, made coffee and poured myself a refill and she fired me!! MY BREAKS ARE TOO LONG!!  HELLO!!!  WE WORK AT HOME TO AVOID CORPORATE SHACKLES AND CHAINS!!!  I can only imagine what would have happened if I took extra minutes for a bowel movement!    What a sorry company!! They are nothing but a sweat shop that could care less about family, kids, bladders, colons and caffeine!!!  AVOID THIS COIMPANY AT ALL COST!!!!111

They're always slipping these things in casually at the end of the day. Stupid suits.

Aside from the usual abrrv, try dividing SM
words in half.

hydronephrosis = hyne
scoliosis = scos
cholecystectomy = chec
aforementioned - afme

Or divide words together like
Babcock clamp = bacl

This is very easy, once you get the hang of it. Have fun!
excellent advice - as usual

She may not be lying - but it is not typical or usual. nm

OSI W2's late as usual this year?
.
Yes, mine was there are usual. TT is still the best IMHO.
Glad to be there. Glad to stay.
There is the usual posting by DIT. Gotta ask ..(sm)

Is there anyone out there that is currently working for DIT, getting paid and on time?  I know that there were many, many posts here not long ago on how they had stiffed a few employees but was wondering if they had turned things around.

TIA

AVOID Medware! (sm)
The recruiter will tell you anything you want to hear, but wait until the flakes start getting involved. Expect many delays in getting set up.

Medware is basically another MQ, a top-heavy company with levels and levels of Directors of this and Vice Presidents of that, all of whom are making thousands more per month than the people who are actually earning the income.

They also offshore extensively, but don't worry, you'll be offered the opportunity to proof the Indians' work at a fraction of your pay!
Tell her to avoid OSi like the plague
"Whether we think offshore labor is right or wrong, it has become a fact we cannot escape from. OSi will not actively pursue offshore labor contracts, but we have made the decision to experiment with using some offshore labor to save this large OSi client from going elsewhere. We believe this is the best decision for our employees assigned to this account and the company because this account is growing and we can assign the offshore part to the future increases and not have to reassign any OSi MTs. OSi is committed to continue using US MTs for the majority of their work and we will continue to resist going offshore."

Avoid mouse if possible
If your software gives you the option of using keyboard commands instead of picking up your hands to use the mouse, use them. Avoid doing anything that takes your hands off the keyboard and your eyes off the screen if at all possible. But it can be helpful to write down your new shortcuts and tape the list to your monitor until you can remember them. If you have internet, make use of OneLook Dictionary. Many common medical phrases are in there as well as single-word entries. It might be quicker than using even a specialty book.
Several reasons to avoid them
You start out great but after a while you may get bounced around on different accounts because they cherry pick to the MTs they like and you get left with harder work.

The owners are paranoid someone might say something negative about them. Ask them about their employee handbook and its contents. You cannot participate in organizing or join an MT union. You cannot communicate anything at all about them either in private email or pubically without the written consent of one of the owners.

You will get bombarded with emails to get work caught up and then even if you are a good producer, you will get the emails that chastise everyone for not being good workers.

QA is arbitrary and you may have to prove you did the right thing when you get your monthly score by providing them copies of their own emails. Of course this makes you look bad and you will be punished for standing up for yourself.

Your mileage may vary.
AVOID MEDQUIST AND SPi
I work for SPi and hate it. I keep running out of work, so they keep moving me around to so many accounts, I can't even remember them all. It sucks and I'm miserable. Am looking...
I WOULD AVOID TTS LIKE THE PLAGUE
Unless, of course, you like to work and not get paid
What company did this to you so I can avoid them
nm
avoid them like the plague
This used to be a fabulous company to work for, then suddenly it all went down the tubes - operation flush - they won't be around much longer...writing is on the wall
