Just A Little More

Wow! You all have helped me so much!! To answer some of the questions below...

1) The clause is specific enough that it says that I cannot work for or become a competitor for the next 12 months, but it does not specify a geographical region or distance limitation. Because this detail was left out, they would not have any grounds on which to sue me for breach of contract (according to the attorneys I have spoken to and the research that I have done on the internet). They could try to take me to court, but it would be kicked right out.

2) I did contact the company and specifically asked for more clarification on what that paragraph was asking, and they did confirm that it was indeed telling me to not start my own business and to not work for anyone in the transcription field.

3) I don't want to say the exact amount because I have also been told that the company monitors this board and it is easy for them to figure out who I am. I'm not sure if they find out due to the clues I leave or if they have other ways...but I will say that the amount of severance offered is more than $1000 and less than $3000. (Surely that is still broad enough that they won't be able to use the process of elimination to figure out which ex-employee I am.) Although this is not a significant amount, I do think that it is an amount that I'll need to cover my lost income while I look for another job.

I still haven't made a final decision on what I'll do exactly, but I do know that the MT World is a great place to be--it's the Suits that you have to watch out for! I love my profession and I currently have no plans to look for employment in any other field!!

Again, THANKS! to you all for all your input!!
