I think the majority of the people at MDI, myself included, were labeled as 'statutory employees....SS was taken out of my checks....and it was up to me to pay the rest. I don'the know of any independent contractors at MDI but there probably are some. That option was not given to me when I started 4 years ago. As far as bennies go or pension plans, well, considering how good the line rates were, that was not a problem for me. There are a lot of other companies out there who pay crap wages, and I did not see that with D. I feel she pretty much paid her people what she thought they were worth to keep them. I still think MDI was the best gig I ever found, I always had plenty of work until this past summer.
