Anytime I asked about it in the past, always
overwhelming response was negative - very insecure platform, shaky, not dependable. I would say 10 people said that 2 different times, while 1 time someone said it was wonderful and had no idea of any problems. I ended up declining the job 2 x when I just could not find anything positive. Oh, yes, and 2 people said once you downloaded it in your computer, the computer was shot and basically garbage. Now, this scared me big time, and I figured no one was making it up, as the company I was applying for was tiny local, not even a blip on the map! Wish I could give better news!
In Jan. 07 they offered 7 cpl as IC and you had to BUY their software. Past posts

I work for Axoltol and have in the past been offered

a position with TransTech.  I read on the board that TT does not pay for spaces.  I don't remember from my interview whether they do or not   The money wasn't that great at TT so I turned it down.

At Axoltol (work there and still can't spell their name but it rhymes with bottle) line rate is 2 cpl what TT offered me.  There aren't production bonues, but there is OT.  Benefits are excellent.  Insurance is very good and cheaper than any I've seen anywhere.  My DH works for an extremely large company and even his insurance isn't as inexpensive.  Insurance starts the first day of the month after you are hired, so if you were to start today insurance would start May 1.   Vision insurance is free, as is long/short-term disability.

They are rigid about your schedule.  You get to set it, but then they expect you to stick to it, though if you need to go to the doctor or something there isn't a problem getting off.  You are expected to to 1200 lpd/12,000 lines per pay period.  Some days I have trouble doing 1200, but I do extra another day.  Platform is very easy.  One of the things I like most it shows how much you make per report, how much you make per day, how much per pay period, etc.  I like to see the numbers.  I have a goal each month and it motivates me to see the numbers going up.  They provide equipment (even flat screen monitor).  Company is still small but growing.  They don't offshore.

QA is great, you can see corrected report and also relisten.  You don't get to see old reports from other MTs.

I was worried about being more regimented in my schedule, but it has actually helped me to have more time to do the things I want to do.  Instead of working a bit here and there I sit and get it done.  I'm not tied to my chair, I still take breaks.

Can you tell I love my job?

I asked 11 cpl, but they offered and paid 13 cpl!

They've used ExText in the past. Ad from 2006 said you need Word 2003. Offered 8 cpl for

Got offered 1.5 cent/line this past week....she said her editors tell her they make good $$....
.
There is a part-time and a flexible part-time, just left there and they offered
me both. Flexible, however, is more or less when they need you (I.e. weekends), part-time is fixed hours.
I work for MDI-MD and have worked part-time for Cobb in the past. sm

It has been about 3 years or so since I worked for Cobb Transcription in Georgia (very nice woman, by the way), so my info may be old, but I'll try to help.

Good dictation quality?

Yes for both MDI-MD and Cobb

Steady work?

MDI:  For the most part, yes.  There have been a few times, but you usually have enough secondary and tertiary accounts to make it through the dry times.

Cobb:  I was doing clinic work -- do not recall any times without work.

What are the work types?

MDI-MD has a few radiology and clinic accounts (I think), but probably the majority of the accounts are acute care.

Cobb may have hospital accounts, but all I did with them was clinic work.

Good platform?

MDI uses Bayscribe -- very easy to use.

Cobb used Word.

Pay rate?

MDI pays better than any other company I have encountered.

Cobb's pay rate is kinda low, as I recall, and it was based on being paid by the character.

Paid for 65 cpl with spaces?

Yes for MDI ... as I mentioned above, Cobb paid by the character.

Do you have a flexible schedule?

Yes to both.  MDI gives you a 24-hour turnaround time to do your work, and I think the same was true with Cobb.

Weekend work mandatory?

MDI:  You are asked to work 2 weekends a month, I think.  I pretty much work every weekend, so not sure about the official rules.

Cobb:  No.

Employee or IC?

MDI:  Statutory employee (they take out FICA, nothing else, so you do not have to pay self-employment tax)

Cobb:  Was IC only

Benefits?

No for both

Low or high volume ESLs?

Probably vaies with the account -- probably average with MDI.

I don't recall any ESLs at Cobb.

Dedicated accounts with the same doctors?

MDI:  You have a primary account and usually a secondary account -- pretty much the same docs.

Cobb:  Yes.

Dialup accepted?

Yes to both, as far as I know.  I have had cable so long, I do not recall.

Good luck with your job search.  Hope this helps.   If you have an offer from MDI, I'd take it -- it is a great place to work!

Are all DRC accts on Cphones?? nm
nm
Keystrokes has very few accts on line using ExText. Most use Cphones/2nd line. Lots of Rad
s
When they called me and I asked them if they offshored, they asked me why that was my business!
xx
OH - I thought part transcription, part escription, but don't know for sure
nm
Sad but true. You're asked to work NOW, then asked to stop NOW, then go again and then stop
If you dont get off the minute the hospital asks, even if you have no idea that they have requested that your to be off, then the hospital MTs steal your work right out of your queue and I mean reports you have already done. I dont understand the concept of having a contract with a hospital and then having to fight for work with the hospital MTs. We should have guaranteed work during our shift and enough of the the hospital wants you to help right now and then a few hours later they want us to stop working as the work is too low. It is crazy and I couldnt work like that so I had to quit.
They no longer hire part-time and may be eliminating part-time employees within the next 6 months.
They are going to have those that are PT go FT if possible. Some accounts require 1 weekend day, but not all. Most transcriptionists have 1 account with 1 back-up account. I know that they are hiring for hospital accounts in medical records and radiology right now.
No PTO for part-time. Not sure if you can work part-time or not since recent rule change. sm
You do pay a deposit for their equipment.
Yes I know they hire part time because I referred someone there for part time.
They are internet based.
From what I understand, the part-time positions will be only be for those that are already part-time
It is not a restructuring of the company, just of some of the existing part-time positions.

I know that there are a few employees who have been with Keystrokes for many, many years who are part-time and they will not displaced.

Other than that, there have been many discussions why there will not be any new part-time employees hired, and I really don't think they will back down on that.
How far in the past?
nm
I have in the past, what do you need to know?

No, they used to pay more in the past.
x
I have in the past
In fact, they probably like that you do rather than ask for time off when the work load is heavy.
This is what i have done in the past.
I have called a facility and asked to speak to the director of medical records. I told them that I was interested in working on transcription for their facility and asked them the name of the company. They told me with no problem.
who have you worked for in the past - sm
Sometimes it's just getting into the right place at the right time, but if you have already worked for a few places, I don't want to mention their names.
I have spoken with her in the past and she was
What did she say or do that was so rude and unprofessional?
Worked there in the past.
But frequently ran out of work. Finally had to leave.
Well, I worked for them in the past (sm)
and had trouble being paid.  There has been info here over the past 3 years showing that it's still going on.
Not that I know of...I just saw some favorable past (sm)
posts about them and thought I would see if they are hiring..
past employees
Why is it that past employees always yell the loudest?  I take pride in the work I do for Shapin and if the past employee had just asked for help and had not turned in files that weren't even edited, it may have been a different situation.  I have mentored many MTs and have seen them grow in their profession.  Say what you want about Shapin, but remember if you are a past employee, there probably is a reason and it wasn't the pay.
From past experience, I would
stay away, far away from Accupro. I was not paid what was due me and was basically called a liar. Bad business ethics.

I know another person who worked for them, who sent an email and had things in it deleted and changed to make her look bad and then had the changed email forwarded to someone else. Stay away, things may have been good a long time ago, but not anymore.
In the past they have done this in an attempt to
attract people who know/have worked on the account.
current or past MDI-MD MTs,

did your line count significantly increase at MDI over whereever you had been before?

I believe there were posts in the past. (sm)
Check the archives. As I recall, it wasn't good!
Maybe these past posts will help --

I don't work for them but I was thinking about it and I remembered there was a lot of chatter about them within the last couple of months so I did a search of the MTStars Company Board cause I thought I remembered something that might be helpful to you.  Until you get updated info from current or past employees maybe this will help.

Medical Axolotl [2007-08-25]

Med - employee $100/mo., employee +1 $200/mo., employee + kids $200/mo.and employee + family $300/mo.

Axolotl [2007-08-18]

Axolotl expects quality and reliable MTs. Due to the fact, they do not overstaff, it is IMPERATIVE, everyone be there for their scheduled shifts. They provide OUTSTANDING and affordable benefits, as well as more than competitive pay. If you meet the above standards as an MT, then you should apply. If you don't meet these standards, then you need to find a company who doesn't expect you to produce quality documents and to show up for your shift. I have been an MT for 13 years. Axolotl is better than any company I have ever researched or any employerI have worked for. If you are looking for former employees who did not meet the above standards, I am sure you can find them.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

No ad, just though maybe someone worked for them in the past...
I got the same info you did, a few companies by the name of PRN Transcription but I could not find any in MA.  One in Illinois, one in Ohio.....?
Well, last day this past week my pay was
over $18.00 an hour. I don't consider that too bad myself. I personally am very happy there, no problem with anyone, they leave you alone, no IMing all the time nor emails, good support, love the platform. Great place for me.
There have been several posts about them the past
couple of weeks.
wow now there's a blast from the past sm
I used to work for them years ago, but I think they must have gone out of business a while back. Their website has been down for a few years.
Times past it was the same as now -
If you are typing radiology, op notes or ERs - no, it would not be a good deal.  Discharge summaries, definitely!  You know when the doctors hem and haw and talk to the other doctors or take a phone call?  Or you have a dictaiton that's just dead air, no dictation?  You get paid for all that time that the doctor is not talking.  It doesn't depend on times past versus times now.  I was paid by the minute 20 yeras ago and it was the same then.  It's good money with discharge summaries, not good for op notes or ERs.
I had not had a lot of ESL in the past, just a few here and there and never Hispanic. sm
It took me 3 weeks before I felt comfortable and now it gets better every day. I really enjoy it. A friend of mine left the account and KS and called them up and started again. They told her that it is a difficult account and they understand and had her come back. Now she is happy on the account too. She had been there a while though so that might be why but she gave up in a huff and left and they took her back (about 2 weeks later).
She had an MTSO in the past and did not pay.

What I have done for the past 6 years - sm
For the first 4 years as an IC I paid quarterly to state and had hubby take out additional federal from his check.  I now have him take out additional for both, which is far easier for me.  The IRS does not care where it comes from, just that it gets paid.  Not sure if this is an option for you, but it works for me.
I have seen several posts over the past
few months (possibly by the same person) who talks about how great they pay.  Someone posted the past week that they offered 8 cpl.  That is not great pay by any stretch, especially with some of the crappy accounts they have.
I have been compensated in the past
by extra for certain dictators and raise for being willing to work harder accounts, but had to ask, they usually won't offer :)
I know they were pretty bad in the past
Brenda Hurley has since taken over as director of operations and I think she will definitely make some big improvements here.

I would like to hear from some who are now working under Brenda's supervision to see if things have improved as anticipated.
I can't get past the idea of

off-shoring to India.  I absolutely STAUNCHLY refuse to work for a company that offshores to India.

I've heard good things from some people about Focus, like the platforms are good, pay is on time.  I do like EditScript (my current favorite) and some people say the pay isn't bad.  However, I have heard so much more bad, that I don't think I would ever apply.

I usually try to think outside the box too and give someone the benefit of the doubt.  However, off-shoring is just something I cannot get past no way, no how, no matter which way you slice it.

This is not a past-time. This is my sm
profession. Maybe you should look to do something else since this is your past-time. A past-time doesn't usually pay enough to support a person. Most of the time a career does!
THEY HAVE TOLD ME TWICE IN THE PAST
Month they are not hiring because everyone that works there (myself included) does not have enough work
On past resumes I have put...

Available on request in the Reason for Leaving box.  I had a past boss who was verbally abusive (not Oh, he hurt my feeling because he said I was working slow or something...I mean truly abusive) and I have used the Available on request in that box for that particular job many time and have been asked what the situation was before, but have never been treated like this was a strange way to handle the Reason for Leaving box.  I have also completley omitted this job for certain resumes.

My sincere condolances on the passing of your father.

Christmas Past - dream on
.... Just wanted to share what was done at a hospital I worked at in the good old days when I was a young one ..
Hospital gave each employee $300.00 to $500.00 dollars each as a bonus. You got a turkey for your family. AND, the grandest catered Christmas party at a local exclusive private club with dancing all night!!! Can you believe that?!?
I worked for Medware in the past, and
at first it was great!  They were advertising for ER which was what I wanted, but when I applied they said no ER so I was given Acute Care.  The first few months were great.  I was in hog heaven.  Then overnight things changed and I had nothing but the worst ESLs and my pay went downhill big time!!  I tried to get things resolved, so no luck.  Otherwise it was great.  Easy platform, good communication, etc.  If you are lucky enough to get and KEEP good accounts, then it is great!
