Most companies going to VR, so not just a TT thing. -- more money in their pockets, less in ours.

Regretfully true, but there is NO WAY an MT can earn as much doing editing because you can't make twice as much for a long time after the machine gets to understanding the doctor.  DocQScribe's editing platform is the only one that I have seen that was MT-friendly.  Great money to be made on that platform, but as with all editing platforms, another new doctor comes onboard and the machine has to get to know his voice, so another slow down in editing.

It is definitely NOT a gain to the MT.  Why do you think these companies would be changing over to VR/editing ????

There is one thing no amount of money will ever buy ......
But... then again, that pretty much goes without saying.
The knowledge thing is right on the money
I never went over to using the so called hot keys, made it this long without so no use in using now. How you like it when they say newbies only like? I think the ones protesting so much don’t want to give up their templates, all their Expanders because then they might have to think about what they are reading and make corrections. Yeh for VR.
Point well taken. Money can be a good thing....
If you don't get caught up in trying to buy happiness...
Lining of the pockets is the whole problem
I have a friend who worked in QA PT for a couple of years at the same company where I was an MT. She accepted a full-time QA position at $17/hr just to be told 3 days later that the rate was actually $15/hr. She quit before their sentence ended with punctuation...
You're just padding the pockets of con-artists

FUNNIEST THING..they all think you're making all this big money (LMAO) -nm

About money, line rate is one thing, but hourly figures are another sm
Traditional: 8.5 cents per line. Top out at 225. $19.25 an hour.

Speech: 4.5 cents per line. Top out at 500. $22.50 an hour.

I split between the two and right now, that is running $700 a week or $36K a year. Not a huge salary, I know, but more than I made 10 years ago.

Could I push harder? Sure, but I don't need the money because I have structured my life so that I only need 1/2 my income to live on and I live alone. I like the part about not being exhausted on my days off, about being able to give up a terrible PT job, and having time to paint AND be able to have expensive, high-quality art supplies.

I am happy as a clam and I do not think that VR will take my job!!!! My only worry right now is that my painting is taking off with art shows, commissions and internet sales. I won't be able to work full time as an MT if this keeps up, and I know it will. I love being an MT and when it ends in favor of my artwork, I will be joyous over one and very much saddened over the other. It is and has been a wonderful career for me.

Is there still money with any of these companies? (nm)

They receive money from companies
xx
Too many companies invested money in VR, and they are going to make
sure they can use it, no matter what. So even if it can only type if, and and the correctly, it will be put into VR and the poor MT that has to straighten that garbage out will be paid a big fat amount of around 4 cpl. These companies are the greediest bunch I have ever seen. None of them are worth the ground they sit on.
Companies (not just MTSOs) have 90 days to put the money into 401k accounts. sm
It has to be done by the end of the 90 days. My husband's runs about 89 days and he is not an MT. He is a union electrician.
Why are all these companies forcing VR at half rate? Are they losing money?
nm
Um, not exactly - some of the VERY LARGE companies do the same thing!
Trust me. lol
I am not with KS but find the same thing at many companies. sm
I think it is just a part of transcription that not all platforms are transcription-friendly.
All the large companies do the same thing.
I don't work for WMX. I'm amazed this is the first anyone has heard. I suppose Webber Inc. keeps things quiet.

Really, don't get upset. Just business as usual.
Watch out for companies that do the tiered thing-

Only they called it leveling.  They leveled everyone the same, whether you had 2 months or 20 years of experience, everyone got the same lousy pay.

Do you happen to know which companies HUP outsources to other than MQ. I suppose the best thing
would be to call HR but will they give out this information. Not sure who to call at these hospitals.
Some states/companies have a noncompete thing going on. It took years for Diskriter to be able to
s
Amherst so we make less money and they get more money for MQ and bigger bonuses. Our guidelines came
from Amherst.
The company takes the money out of your salary, before they cut the check. It is your earned money,

It's about "money, money, money, mmmoonnney. Singing The Apprentice song.

yep, gotta spend money to make money. NM
.
So does yours. Perhaps you need a basic money class to learn to keep money. sm
I am off today and appalled at reading the posts on here.

Are you always this bitter? Do you have a family and friends who are safe and healthy? Count your blessings instead of being so angry and you might see that this is not a bad field to be in. It has kept food on my table for 27 years and will continue to do so. Is it harder now? You bet, but it is not impossible to make a good living of $50,000. You just have to work hard, give it your all and appreciate the good companies that are out there.

If I were an MTSO, I would find out who all these people posting such bitter posts are and find replacements for them a.s.a.p. Negativity spreads like poison, and with the world in the state it is, we should bond together not make it worse.
Money is not the root of all evil, the LOVE of money is. nm

Debate is one thing, and posting is one thing,
but this is getting absurd. I think it must be the same person, otherwise multiples who cannot stay on topic?? Why can't you STICK with the subject? The subject of my post was NOT what your cent per line rate was or is - I could care less- and not how much money you made last year, this year, or in your life, but how silly the comment was that your cents per line rate means NOTHING, that its up to you - some fluff like that. That is just so silly. Again, working for the same company, same account, is one going to make more money being paid more per line? OF course! This is so frustrating and really makes me so tired of reading this garbage let alone posting. Its like a nightmare. And also makes me completely believe that the original company must pay peanuts.
good thing it is a temporary thing sm
because people with your attitude don't stay in anything very long anyway. Nobody has to listen to that crap to keep their job.

You don't know me either. you can say old fart all you want (when did 53 get to be old fart....too funny) but at least I am a valuable employee who can get a decent job!
Well for one thing, it would not be a professional thing
to do for any MTSO to have a board to do this as part of being an MTSO involves the ability to identify and hold on to confidential information. Even if a person is a job hopper (which in this business rather than go against you can make you a stronger better MT if you can do just about anything thrown at you), if a person is looking for a job, a company needs to have the MT's permission to contact their current employer. Where one has worked or has not worked is something that is very unprofessional being discussed on a board by MTSOs.

Being a business owner of any kind comes with it possessing what it takes to maintain ethical practices.

TransTech and Medware, are these companies considered large, medium-sized or small companies? (sm)
TIA
Yikes.. That is only inline with companies like Focus and such. "Real" companies pay their MTs
decent rate.  I make over 5 cpl editing. So, if I got that slap in the face, I'd be outta there.
Do the research...most companies, and not just MT companies, do not pay for maternity leave...
we get time off but not paid...and I really don't even understand the point of you posting this...
you might be right on the money
If you think about it, they're sleazy and undermining enough to do something like that, cover their behinds.  They better hurry up and drop the bomb, with the lack of work people are leaving.  Come on MQ, screw us over already and get it done with.
money
I only made 7.6 cpl and that was clinic transcription (with 6 years experience at that). I was told there were no raises per se, but would be eligible for bonuses ($100) a time or two per year. That was earlier this year. I didn't stay with them long because more money came along.
If $184 for self only, that is a LOT of money.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

Really, they just won't say where your money is at all? nm
nm
More Money?
I thought I posted this a couple of days ago, but now that I'm looking for it, I don't see it.  Anyway, I'd like opinions please.  I've been working for a small MTSO for almost a year.  I love the company and the work.  When I first started working for them, they told me up front that they will only pay so much per line because they are a smaller company.  I said that was fine.  It was not a bad starting rate.  Now that I've been with them for a little while, I feel like I would like to ask for an increased line rate.  Is that wrong of me to do since they told me up front they will only pay so much?
No money
I've seen them put me on 7 different accounts Sat and today and put on bad dictators that just keep on coming.  That is definitely cherrypicking.  Just not making it with this company and have spent 6 months trying.  Need to move on.
Not enough money
No kidding..it is really sad, seems that the faster I go, the less lines I have!  I can' believe it. It is totally unsatisfactory to work so hard, sit for so long, to make peanuts.
Yep, right on the money
nm
Did you ever get your money from her?
I hope so.
Way too low...more money in MT - nm
x
Do you have your money though? That's SM
the question.  If you do, great.  If you've been told it's coming, then I guess I wouldn't consider the matter resolved until I had the money.
More money
I think I make more money working at home. I have never seen an on-site MT position that paid more than $18/hour and I make way beyond that. You probably have some stability working on site, but I wouldn't trade my flexibility for anything!!
NEVER put out money to get a job.
.
Yes she is, and for my money,
she's great!
How to get your money sm
Call the IRS on her and tell her you are really an employee. She will have to pay your SS for however long you worked there.... also for money owed, get a judgment against her and put a lien on what she owns.

They do not pay. They still owe me money! nm

nn

Not only did they take your money
for better conventions, they took (or helped facilitate to go) much of our work right out of the country to India and the Philippines.
Not a lot of money for me yet
I've not been lucky enough to find a great company to work for yet and I am now three years in and have had steady work. I make $12,000, mostly via VR. I would like to make double that and I think that would be enough.

I have tried testing for other companies and don't seem to test well enough on their computerized transcription tests. I do wish companies would give a few directions as to what they want on those tests because I am probably stuck in the mode of the specs my current company wants. I think that might be, at least in part, why I don't test as well.

I was recently hospitalized and am starting to get some serious copays to pay. Not being AIG, a car maker or banker, there certainly will not be a bailout or stimulus package for me. Maybe I should start trying to win the pot of gold from the powerball thing.

Whatever happened to just good honest decent employment opportunities in exchange for a good honest day's work? That's what I'd like to find.

I am glad many of you do well in MT. When I find the right place, I believe I will too and am looking forward to that day because I actually do need a job where I can work from home for a number of reasons.

Good luck to all.
of course it is about money

none for US MTs though.
