My experience has been that VR helps the slow transcriptionist, hinders the fast. sm

I could transcribe the report myself a LOT faster than sitting there listening and fixing the report.  That's just my experience, though.  Although I acknowledge that VR is easier on my poor old hands, it hurts my budget more than my hands hurt.  I will avoid it as long as I can, although it seems like The Borg and perhaps soon we will all be assimilated.

For now, I am happy to be at a company where I am appreciated and can type the reports myself and not have to sort through the cra* a machine puts out.  Keystrokes is great!

yes relocation fees. And it is not 10-15/hour ... unless you're a slow transcriptionist
We're just trying to find out REALISTICALLY and honestly if there are transcriptionists that have moved or would move to an area for a job and new life.
Why don't you start applying at clinics and such? Helps to have some in-house experience where s
you can have others there to mentor you or even ask the doc what in the dickens he is saying!  I would never try to come straight out of MT classes and try to transcribe on my own.  That's how I started out, and, well, I was doing better before but not in the poorhouse yet!
Any information on program called Beyond Text by Transcend? Fast, slow, user friendly?
Can you make decent lines with it?  Is tech support good?
I had no MT training, not a fast typist, and no experience in tranascription

whatsoever and started out doing Psych transcription.   I moved directly from Psych to acute care transcription without any additional training.  I even started doing some of the most difficult dictators right off the bat and the MTSO couldn't believe that I could do them.

Depends on the account. Work on VR lately has been slow. Just like all companies, we have slow times

Honestly though, I have only had 2-3 times in the past 2 years where it was like the other day...no work... It did pick up later but I just think it's important not to make someone think we're overloaded with work all the time. That would not be fair to them if they end up with high expectations.

No - it is not always slow! Depends on the company and hospital. I have never been slow this time
Slow time is usually in September when everyone is back to work/school from the summer months.

Been doing this 24 years and never slow this time of year. Actually, I am drowning in work - can't keep up.
Do you want to be a transcriptionist or
or do you want to be a voice recognition editor?  Because they are moving to get as many accounts on VR as they can and when they do they'll pay you about half of whatever line rate they promise you to do the VR.  Make sure you ask because nobody ever told me this was the plan when they hired me.
Are you a transcriptionist or do you
Just curious.  I QA for them and have no work either.
If you are already a transcriptionist
I'm not sure I understand your post.  If you are already a transcriptionist, then why don't you just start applying to online companies on the job seeker's board.  If you work full-time then you should make at least 25,000.00 per year as long as you are dedicated and can work independently.  Why not ask the psych doctor if you can do his/her work from home as a side job.  If I were you, I'd skip the training and start applying now for an online job.  What have you got to lose?
Thanks, That helps me a lot!

Just saw an ad for a transcriptionist to (sm)
to go in and type for the doctor as he was in the room with the patient, doing the standardized, pretext formats.
A transcriptionist should at the very least
know the difference between your and you're.
EMR Transcriptionist
Those are some of the duties that I'll be responsible for starting next month when we turn everything over to EMR.
There, no there is a smart transcriptionist
Keep running away from SS.
it helps if you put where you live - sm
you stated microcassettes accounts - so more than likely maybe something nearby or a hospital that perhaps still dictates the old fashioned way - (AND YES, THERE ARE HOSPITALS THAT DO STILL USE TAPES!!)

so whereabouts do you live
I am FT clinic if that helps! We need a few more
FT MTs on the account I am on due to them adding 15 docs to us.
Hope this helps
It isn't hard to find entry level jobs with the right education. A lot of companies hire from the top 3 schools. Career Step, which I went to, and had many job offers when I first graduated. Andrews and M-Tec. (Hope I don't spark a huge debate on schools, lol).

All companies vary when it comes to hours. Some let you work in a 10-12 hour window, some require a set schedule that you must stick to or get approval not to, and if you get a true IC position you can work whenever you want as long as you have work back in Turn Around Time which can be 24-48 hours or less.

My best advice is to get into this career for all of the right reasons. You have to be willing to learn new things every day, put in a lot of hard work, and it is not easy at first...don't give up if this is really what you want. It isn't just sitting at the computer typing all day..the kind of job people say they would love to do. It is very hard work and very stressful at times. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Hope that helps. Best of luck on your road to being an MT.
thanks, that helps a lot. One more question, please. SM
If I have this installed and the Transnet makes some of my Word commands different, does this mean if I am typing in plain Word, then those commands are still different.  In other words, when in plain Word, does Ctrl-S no longer mean Save?  Thanks for your help.
Hope this helps
DSP is a compression method that was written specifically to address the requirement of recording human speech. This method removes a considerable portion of the potential sound spectrum. However, the removed data has little impact on a listener's ability to understand what was said. The algorithm rounds off many of the highs and lows associated with the tones found in the original spoken words. Listeners may no longer detect some of the emotions that may have been inferred by these tones, but the actual words will remain quite clear and discernable.

This CODEC is an excellent choice for recording dictation. The CODEC supports a Sample Rate of 8.0 kHz with a Sample Size of 8 bits and mono recording. One hour of Truespeech recording can fit into about 4.5mb of disk space. We suggest the use of Truespeech for Dictation type applications where the speaker's emotions are irrelevant.

Thanks for your message, it helps to know...
I am not alone in this battle. I was naive enough to trust MW and that is my fault, I should have been checking my account all along. Then the fact that they offered no explanation, no compensation for the lost investment that can literally never be recovered, and just blew me off is very upsetting. The head of HR just about hung up on me at the beginning of all this, said she had nothing to do with the 401 and referred me to payroll. What a way to run a business, employer of the year twice no less! I gave my notice but still have a week to work because I feel my integrity and work ethic is something to be proud of, even though they have not been fair to me. Live and learn, and move on is all I can do at this point.
Caller ID Helps Me
I have caller ID and whenever I see an 800 number or one that says caller unknown or an unknown name I just don't bothering answering it.
Thank you for your comments. It sure helps! nm

you don't have to clock out but it helps sm
as far as your lph (lines per hour) rate for bonus money. You finish a job, when you release it, you are asked if you want to release this job yes or no and there is a box that says do you want to clock out. If you want to clock out at that time you put an x in that box and release your job and you get clocked out.
just stay as transcriptionist
don't go into editing as the pay structure for that is a rip off mostly
Hope this helps.
Local company uses this method with full-time being 100 dictated minutes. Have a friend who works there and says she can meet this requirement in about 5-5 1/2 hours, but very qualified.
Here is what I do, hope this helps

Here is what I do, go into START, control panel, add or remove programs, and do that part.  Then, I go to My Computer, C Drive, Programs (and delete out any remnants).  You will also still need to definitely take it out of the main part of your computer which is REGEDIT.  To do that is very easy, I do it all the time with NO problem, learned it off my computer guy, actually.

START, RUN, type in regedit, OK.  On left side in regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL _MACHINE, Software, and then just right click on the software name and it will allow you to delete it with a question screen asking if you are sure you want to do so.  If you know the exact name of the program or even the exact name of the file it was in, you are safe doing this.  You would also need to check in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, and just do the same procedure over again.    Hope this helps you.  It looks complicated, but is not.

Unionized Transcriptionist?
Is this just so overwhelming to think about.  Plummers, carpenters, auto workers, healthcare workers, nurses, teachers, etc. have managed to unionize and demand fair pay and treatment.  Am I the only person who has ever had this thought?  Why do so many MTs resign themselves to less than fair wages and benefits for a skill that is in such high demand?  Tell me what you think.  Just curious.
It certainly helps if you're not. :))
xx
what helps me is breaking up my day
in 2 and 3 hour shifts. I can just keep my head above water this way and some days I may go above that point.  I have heard a few others here share this same strategy.  It is hard to sit here for 8 hours straight, day in and day out. I can produce more in shifts that are broken up. Also find the time of day you feel you are most productive. Good luck!
Ok, that helps! Is there high
turnover or are they acquiring a lot of new accounts?

EMR Medical Transcriptionist?

Ok, just as we thought our jobs were being replaced with EMR, VR, offshore, etc, I found this on Craigs list with the headline Medical Transcriptionist -

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Transcribe medical dictation into CareTracker Electronic Medical Record Template.
2. Data entry of patient medication & allergy history into EMR.
3. Review of patient history from chart and enter into EMR.
4. Capture charges from dictation and enter into CareTracker.
5. Work with EMR implementation team with suggestions or changes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Compile electronic health record from paper charts.
2. Transcribe medical dictation into electronic health record template.
3. Manual entry of patient’s medication and allergies from the paper chart into the electronic health record.
4. Get physician approval of medications entered.
5. Follow up with doctor with incomplete dictation.
6. Cross training of new staff assigned.
7. Performing other duties as assigned.

This certainly doesn't sound like EMR is all it is cracked up to be if this is what it takes to get the record on the chart.

Any information helps. There's nothing
wrong with tooting your own horn! :)

I guess I was just wanting to know if I would get paid on time for the work I did and if there was a steady work flow. Those are my 2 main questions.
I was under the impression that the transcriptionist, as well
as the MTSO were not held liable, that it was whoever signed the final product (in theory, they proof it before they sign it). It is the physician's dictation, how can the MTSO or MT be held responsible if they transcribe incorrectly dictated test results, physical exam findings or anything else re: the patient?
hope this helps....see msg
www.etransmed.com

I don't know anything about the company, myself.

good luck!
DO NOT BELIEVE "BEWARE" - she obviously was a disgruntled transcriptionist - sm
I have been transcribing for four years for them. Have a large account, and only a couple of times in four years have I had a very slow period (maybe lasting a week or so) where the work was low - but as anyone would know, hospital admissions usually go down in the summertime, docs go on vacations, etc.

They do have a couple of accounts that the HOSPITAL is absolutely picky about, i.e. they want the commas and the periods and the hyphens where they belong and they want the report spelled CORRECTLY. But a hospital has EVERY RIGHT to expect that from a transcription vendor. Maybe "beware" was on one of these accounts and just doesn't know how to transcribe!!
Thanks PTtrans any info helps.
Thank you
Every single transcriptionist should QUIT.

Right now -- before they have the chance to use your talent and blood and sweat to perfect the VR that they will then send offshore.  You can bet they will quit YOU once their foot is firmly in India.

I hope every single transcriptionist

who is laid off files FOR UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION.  If there was ever a time UC is warranted, it is for situations like this.  I believe the employer is responsible for paying this in most, if not all, states.  I also believe your benefit is based on your income over a certain number of quarters, so the more you earn, the higher your benefit.

Publicizing what this so-called *employer* is doing might help bring the matter to the public's attention, especially when politicians brag about how wonderful the American economy is.

It is Certified Medical Transcriptionist sm
as described by AAMT (American Association for Medical Transcription). You receive this by taking a test with AAMT. In the late 70s or early 80s when AAMT first came about, if you had 2-3 years experience (I can't remember which) you could become a CMT by grandfathering in and not taking a test. I knew folks who grandfathered in who had only done radiology and could not do acute care at all. I didn't think that was fair at all. I am not sure how they do it now, but I think they may have a certification for different types of transcription i.e., radiology versus acute care. I remember I was 6 months short of the experience to grandfather in and I paid to take the test.

You must have so many continuing education credits in a prescribed period of time to keep your certification or you will have to take the test over. There are lots of ways that you can get CECs, sometimes by reading certain articles that qualify etc.

I kept mine for about 12 years but they kept going up on the price so much every year I finally just let it go. There are some places that pay a little more for CMT status, but not many. It really and truly is not worth the money you pay out. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but don't waste your money.
Certified Medical Transcriptionist.

thanks...I did what you suggested....the info helps.
nm
Well then, I hope it helps to reinstall. Come to think of it...SM

when I say that I get those double letters, maybe that is when I open my SC after loading my program.  I have no idea!  I've never noticed.  It's just not a consistent problem, and even when I get the double letters, it's not on every expansion that I'm using, just kinda hit-and-miss.  But maybe this is what the problem is!

Anyway, I hope you get your problem sorted out.  When you reinstill, your .sc dictionaries (or whatever they are called) will just be right there waiting on you.  That is how it was when I got my update.  Good luck, and thanks to you, too.  :)

Transcriptionist in a chiropractor's office
Does anyone know what a transcriptionist's salary range would be in a chiropractor's office?
FT Medical Records Transcriptionist
Who does she work for?
I drink one just about every day. Helps with periods. sm
The soy actually makes my periods shorter and less cramps, which is a HUGE deal to me.
I'm not using them for weight loss, just as a high-protein, low fat meal or snack, especially on days that I do weight training.
Not fishy. Just a transcriptionist who has worked for
2 companies which did not count correctly and after having done a minute to line comparison finding that the present job is not counting correctly either. Perhaps the wording is awkward. Should have asked who counts lines with a correct line to minute ratio. And you know what that means if you have been in the business long enough.
