.. and if it's an offer I can accept, THEN I'll give that information.' I don't mind a background check, but not to every company I apply to, most of which would probably have no intention of hiring me anyway, or else I'd have no interest in working for them, once we started talking money.

So talk money FIRST, background checks, long typing tests, and SS numbers SECOND.

Yes, the MTSO has to "make THEIR money", but
So maybe they need to rethink charging something more than 80's wages to the hospitals, too! The hospitals raise THEIR rates all the time. They have to pay more for everything else, doctors, x-ray machinery, gastric tubing, you-name-it. So why should they think for one moment that their LEGAL MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION, the most vital part of their patients' medical data, be done at a cut-rate price?

So your post is very timely and very correct. If we reject the chump-change 'wages' they offer, and stand our ground, eventually they'll have only the choice of offshoring. But as we speak, more and more hospitals and clinics are saying 'NO' to offshoring their work. They realize the privacy and legal risks offshoring poses. If the free ride MTSOs and other US companies have been getting when it comes to offshoring American jobs comes to an end, they will realize that in the big picture, paying a little more to have the job done RIGHT in the first place, is ultimately less espensive and less risky to them in court. Last December I was part of a jury, and I can't begin to tell you how many reams of medical reports we all had to sift through as we deliberated. And you know what? Accurate, complete, and WELL-WRITTEN medical records made the difference in our case, and saved a doctor's career. If more of them had spent time in a jury-box, instead of dodging their duty to serve, they'd have a better idea of how vital and life-saving (their own lives included!) an accurate medical record can be.
"Make her an IC" - very telling phrase!
Your phrase expresses precisely the travesty I'm talking about.

What you're saying, in essence, is that they might 'make her start up her own business', because that's what being an IC really is - being in business for yourself.

If I were to knock on your door, grab you in a headlock and tell you that I was forcing you to start up a hot dog vending business, how many nanoseconds would it take you to call the police (and probably the men with a butterfly net, too!)?

This is just disgusting - on about six different levels.
I agree.. It seems to me that some companies may "make up" names because they know they have t
one to post here. Can't anyone get more creative than putting Nintendon's XBox and Game Cube together LOL.. I believe the rapper is Ice T but I'm not for sure. I'd have to ask my teenagers.
That was my first reaction to it
In fact, I assume someone at the supervisor's conference last week came up with it and they implemented it immediately.  What we don't know, we can't complain about.  I recently complained when I found 66% of my team canceling out of jobs, we got reminded not to do it.  I assume this will keep me from noticing when it starts up again; and now that we have less work and more time sitting around to check into these things, maybe the complaints were rising.  It is rather typical, just like they delete anything negative off their internal forum.  If it isn't talked about, it doesn't exist.
I am the OP, and I cannot the reaction of you
When did I whine? When did I throw a tantrum? I do not need to find a new profession! I do not need to work 24/7 or weekends for that matter when it is an IC position. I have been in this industry long enough to pick and choose any job offer what suits me and my family. I have been given many offers, and I will CHOOSE what job offer I find suitable. Yes, I am connected by the hip to my DH and children. Let me guess, you people that are so bitter have had failed marriages. And let me dare to guess it was because of your poor attitude. Who are the freaking whiners? This board is a joke!! and you wonder why the industry is declining, it is because of your ATTITUDE!!! I am so done with MTStars. I am much too professional for it. Thanks for letting me learn a good lesson today!
Yes, I think that is the reaction that poster is going for.
He/she/it goaded me to the point of wanting to pop his/her teeth out, too. I'm not old, fat, stupid, poor, toothless or ugly either. Oh, well. She/he/it needs to believe that the rest of the world is ugly, fat, stupid, toothless, and old to make him/herself feel good. The reality of the situation is that her/his true character is the reason he/she can't hack life in the real world. That's why he/she/it hides behind the mask of the Internet. Truly sad, to be pitied. It's a cry for help. Perhaps it's a case of the abused becoming the abuser.....
Reaction above inevitable.
You can't post a positive message about taking control of your own situation without getting the above type of response from someone who acts and thinks like a victim and blames everyone else for their problems. It gets old, but it's part of the culture on this board. Fortunately, there are many more positive, helpful people, which makes it worthwhile coming here.

I appreciated your message and agree with you totally. Good thought for the New Year.
That should read "I cannot believe the reaction..."
Thank you to some who posted professional posted and agreed or disagreed with me but in a respectful way. There are some professionals out there after all? Wow!
Love it, Bunion! ("make your big head spin right off your little neck") ... sm
That remark just slayed me. You sound like a very interesting and accomplished individual, indeed.

You sang with Jerry Jeff Walker!!? That is very cool. I don't know his work very well but for one or two songs that I love dearly. One of them I call the little starfish song. If you know which one I mean, I'd love to know the title!
OMG I had the SAME reaction to this silly job post
I wouldn't work for *that* person for 10 cpl, much less 7 cpl!

I adore animals, and care deeply about my work, but the ad said much more about the person supervising/managing than they may have realized.
Too late for your reaction..you've been forgotten...
BTW, maybe you can't make $5000/MONTH AS AN IC CONSISTENTLY because you don't know how to read lol. You might as well stop while you're behind--YOU HAVE NOTHING ON ME LOL. PEACE HATER LOL.
I work for another company that advertises for new employees often with the same reaction. Maybe s
those who are NOT in-the-know should keep their opinions to themselves unless they know facts. The company I work for is hiring over 100 MTs as well due to two new accounts between now and the end of the year too. Maybe a few of the biggies have lost a few accounts that the mid-size MTSOs can handle in a more personal manner. Perhaps hospitals are FINALLY getting tired of the offshore garbage they are getting back from some of the other nationals. Either way, there are some major accounts changing services and a few of the mid-size MTSOs will need to pull from the transcriptionists out there looking for a better job!
usually it's just an uproductive CYA knee jerk "do something" reaction (SM)
some supervisors like to lash the troops in turn when they get negative feedback ... others issue these blanket condemnations (suggesting their team is made up of lazy, unprofessional, dullards) to, in turn, show THEIR supervisor that they 'DID SOMETHING' ...

I wish they realized just how demoralizing these missives are ... and how often they reflect very bad new employee training and QA; lousy ongoing communication wrt to client feedback as well as changes in account specifics ... and let's not talk about obviously outdated, poorly written and/or incomplete and/or confusing and/or contradictory account specifics

oh, and then there's the cowardice of sending group memo to everyone rather than actually -- actually -- discussing the problem(s) with the offending MTs (who likely had no idea their work quality was unacceptable (or they would have fixed it).

I know supervisors are hideously overtaxed with far too many MT's and accounts to oversee ... but yes, I've worked under nothing but bad news supervisors and it sucks.
It does work, you do not need to "make" it work.. it works in all word based programs.
x
they cant "make you work certain hours" but they can find someone that is willing to work them
If not, they dont have to hire you as IC or anything for that matter. So yes it is perfectly legal.

If she hires you as an IC and it doesn't state in your contract when she needs that particular IC coverage and she then dictates what hours you work, she cannot do that.

But she can refuse to hire you if you don't provide the coverage that she is looking for.
