My goodness, your ignorance and paranoia

Not paranoia, has happened to me also
During the process, just so complimentary, so great to have you on board... after hire,  treated like an unwanted stepchild... and degraded on the smallest of errors... think it is a regular routine.
Your paranoia is almost comical
Just because everyone doesn't share your sudden onset of TT 'OMG-the-sky-is-faling-cuz-I-have-to-learn-something-new!'vilification does not mean they are management 'plants.'

Geez, you people never cease to amaze me. Not enough praise for the company a week ago, now nothing but spewing hatred and negativity and dreaming up conspiracy plots.

I hope everyone reading this thread doesn't assume all TT employees are nutters.

Instead of spending all of the time you COULD be spending learning VR on here whining, if you're this unhappy, at least be PROACTIVE and send out resumes or something. If you're no longer happy at TT because you now have to learn VR, then apply elsewhere. There's plenty of listings on the job board.

Just astounded at the paranoia and ugliness in this thread...
Paranoia is my middle name...
I don't work for the company you're talking about, but in addition to Tech Support Guy's very valuable advice down below, I would add this thought:

If you are working as an independent contractor on equipment that you provide yourself, I would strongly encourage you to perform your WORK ONLY on a separate computer from your personal activities - emailing, websurfing, gaming, Netflix, whatever.

This will actually serve 2 very useful purposes:

1) You won't have to worry about accidentally wiping out your work computer (and means to earn your living) with a random virus caught via email.

2) You won't have to worry about your general contractor snooping around on your personal computer - they won't have access to it in any way, shape or form to start with!

Wal-Mart, Target, and other places are selling small netbook computers that still run Windows XP on them for under $400, and in some cases under $250. You can hook one of those up to a full size keyboard, and even a full size monitor if you can't work with an 8.9' screen.

Isn't peace of mind worth less than $400?
I don't understand the paranoia
.
Paranoia runs deep........

Here's something to raise your paranoia level even more... SM
How do you know that *spyware* hasn't ALREADY been sneaked into your PC when you installed WordScript or ROD for the first time? How do you know what really happens whenever you update your platform???

If Acusis -- or ANY OTHER MTSO -- wants to spy on you, they've already put the mechanism in place.

Here's a thought: Don't be doing something you're not supposed to be doing in the FIRST place and you won't have to worry about getting caught. If you're not doing anything wrong, not breaking any laws, not breaking the terms of your contract, you don't have anything to worry about. Duh.
XQ'ers - that does explain the gross paranoia.
nm
Pardon my ignorance
what is a hayseed and why are you proud to be one?
Hoo-boy - ignorance is bliss.
Spheris is deep into switching to voice recognition. MTs are being turned into MTEs - medical text editors.

Of course, if you like the commeradere' of international trade with India, you'll be a happy camper, as they are swiftly overtaking many of the accounts.

It won't take but a minute or two two browse some of the posts on the topic on this very forum.

Here are the highlights -

A few years ago, they took PTO away from part-timers. Then they fiddled with the pay structure and gave people a pay cut. Then they regraded accounts so you had to stretch harder and farther to move up to the next tier to increase your pay. (Oh, yeah, no pay raises. Not never. Not nohow. If you want more money, you have to type faster.)

Where was I? Oh, yeah, last year they took away our HMO. Of course, the corporate employees got to keep it. We were told the MTs were too sickly as a group and were utilizing the insurance too much so they threw us to the wolves and kept the good insurance for themselves. Now they offer what is known in the industry as catastrophic disease insurance. Meaning, if you need any medical attention, drugs, tests, whatever, you get to foot the bill for the first, like four thousand dollars, and then they'll pitch in 60% after that. Pray to God you are either healthy or dying, as those are the only two ways to get any financial benefit from catastropic insurance.

Yesterday we were told we would be excited to know they restructured the holiday pay just in time for Christmas. It was cut by 50%-plus. Merry Christmas.

There is work a-plenty. If your name is Sanjeeb. Otherwise, you'll have to take on ten accounts and scrape around for jobs like the rest of us poor old American working slobs.

Don't fail to meet your line count or you'll get a nasty little note saying shape up or ship out. Doesn't matter if you were on vacation or on a ventilator. Any excuses - valid or otherwise - for not meeting production (like complete lack of work availablel) will fall on deaf ears.

Then there are the TOWN HALL MEETINGS wherein all the MTs are invited to LISTEN to the CEO spiel out his corporate speak. Oh, did I mention that all the MTs are put on MUTE so no one is able to ask questions? Of course, you are invited to submit questions by e-mail ahead of time. I think 90% of the peolpe last time asked about the pay decreases, the lack of work, and the jobs we were losing to India. Guess which of those questions were answered during the meeting. Not a single one. Instead, the CEO answered the question If you could have three wishes, what would they be? Apparently that was the most pressing question. Well, thank God we now know his heart's desire.

I suspect that's the reason they MUTED us on our own TOWN HALL meeting.

Any other questions?

Any other qustions?
Typical Ignorance
You have to excuse people like that. The region of the country has nothing to do with crappy MT companies. Wonder why they apply for companies in the south, when it's easy to look up the company and see where they are located before applying? Perhaps they can't read, or maybe they lost their religion.
Maybe I'm showing my ignorance
But I don't know why it wouldn't. When we use these platforms, at least in theory they are not supposed to do anything to our copy of Word. They just sort of overlay it with their platform. Over the last couple of years, I've accumulated several different platforms on my desktop without problem. Maybe if you tried running both at the same time you would run into issues, but using them separately should present no problem.
ur ignorance is showing now..
You stated VR demands constant checking and correcting throughout the whole document.
Those are the MTs who are so terribly outraged about the change to VR because they cannot make usage of their so helpful, comfortable and practical Expanders anymore.

How dang dumb is that statement. Those helpful, comfortable and practical expanders are what made us more lines and thus made us more valuable to the MTSO by making them more money! Sheesh....
I'm afraid ignorance was bliss...
OSI - post away! :(
Wow. You are really displaying your ignorance with that post. (sm)
post. If you really used to work there, as you say, and are not a disgruntled former employee who just couldn't hack it, you would know that they are constantly advertising because they are growing faster than you can imagine. They have three new accounts, which require over 100 transcriptionists, starting between now and the end of the year.

I have been with Transtech for almost three years now and I can tell you they are the best MTSO to work for. You, on the other hand, are obviously some bitter old hag with nothing better to do with his or her time than spew your vitriolic crap in this anonymous forum to try and make some sense of your pathetic existence.
Not faux pas-sheer ignorance. sm
Or possibly you have been living in a cave for the past 20 years.
Just reinforcing my point about ignorance, lol!
Yeah, this is typical...They have no valid points based on FACT, so they resort to this type of retort.

Pretty funny, actually. My husband and I are laughing at some of the falsehoods about VR running rampant through this thread!
Their assumptions/accusations are based on ignorance
Much like any other type of prejudice, their assumptions and accusations are based on fear (translated into ignorance). They think that because of their shortcomings and inability to be successful at it, then it's impossible anyone else can be successful at it.

I've stopped wasting my time and energy trying to reason with or explain VR to any of them. Their minds are made up, so let them go work for Jane Doe's little MTSO around the corner that has very little work because they don't do VR. The industry will force them to find other careers in a couple of years anyway.

Their loss, our gain.
You're right -- ignorance means a person didn't know, and I didnt. Sorry. nm

My goodness, how much help did you need SM

where you would have to keep evidence, as you say?  Are you someone who needs your hand held throughout the shift?  If so, better work in-house because the at-home deal isn't for you.

You have to work INDEPENDENTLY.  That is what a lot of people don't seem to understand.  If you really have no ability to go through the material you have received and figure it out using common sense, I don't know what to tell you.

Well, thank goodness for that because
you wont be able to meet production on their platform and lack of work!!
Oh my goodness, I too would like to know what co that is.
email me if you want to share :)
Oh my goodness!!! Thank you so much!

Oh my goodness....
I am absolutely AMAZED at those figures.

I know by the time I started things were already way down from where they used to be, because I know it was fairly common to start at 14+ cpl. Since I've started, my pay has decreased an amazing amount...which is really, really sucky.

I keep hoping it will get better. Funny thing is, when I think I should get out of this business and wonder what I should do...I always think....hmmm, what could I do to make 100K/year. So, you've just completely blown me away that you actually DID make that AS AN MT!! Kudos to you:-)
thank goodness
your work on everything
My goodness
That was uncalled for. Who are you angry at? MTs who are successful or yourself for not being motivated enough to work at home? There are lots of people who need the structure of in-house or need a supervisor breathing down their neck to make them work. MTing is not cut out for everyone.

BTW, a good MT does not have to be glued to their work 24/7 and therefore has time to surf the net or do anything we please!
My goodness!
It just amazes me how negative this board can be.  I am a partner with Superior, yes.  I have my OWN clients as well (have for years & years).  I do not work with Focus.  There are many people who do not wish to work with these larger companies directly.  I do the best I can to supply work to this industries.  Those of you that do not like it, I'm sorry!  I cannot please everyone, but those of you that do work with me know that I'm fair, honest, and will do whatever I can for my team.  I have not always done this.  I have been with Superior since the end of 2008. So, maybe you should get your information straight before you post things like this.  It really saddens me to see such horrible attitudes on this board when all I'm trying to do is provide work to this industry.  I do not see what is so wrong with that.  If you think the pay rate is too low, then do not look at my job ads.
Oh, goodness...
Here we go again with the TTD drama.  Everyone here is adult enough to know what they are willing to take and what they aren't.  Why continue trying to babysit people?
Oh, my goodness.....
NM
Thank goodness!!!
I thought that I was the one that was going crazy and trust me, these days that is a great possibility!
thank goodness...

that people are finally starting to see the light about this company.  when the editors took the hit, a lot of the MTs didn't seem to believe what they were saying.  We knew it was just a matter of time before the truth came to light.

one of the things that really amazed me about those folks is that they seemed to believe that we didn't talk amongst ourselves, so their dirty deeds could be kept a secret until they were screwing everyone.

surprise.  word's out.

Thank goodness
Plenty of work, new accounts and new work types on the old accounts. So glad I didn't quit when work was low. My family helped me out because I told them I had faith in TT.
Ignorance is bliss and bliss equals happy nm
nm
LET IT GO FOR GOODNESS SAKE
nm
Looks like they pay more at MQ for goodness sake.
Pretty sad.
Thank goodness for these forums!

You're right, they are not the only ones; but my experience was opposite.  More work that a person should be expected to do in one day, worked 14 to 16 hours.  Did not have a choice, had to clear out my que each and every day.  And THEN came the battle of the paycheck!  They, Panhandle, still owe me my last one from over a year ago!

Again, thanks so much for all of the posts on these forums.  I always check here first (don't post much tho) to research a company.  I did submit my resume to Sten-Tel, but thanks to your posts, I'll never apply or accept a position with them.

Oh my goodness! Did this really happen?? nm
x
Thank goodness - I was beginning
to believe this was a company from hell - according to the other posts.
Oh my goodness! I have to admit that I
honestly am flabbergasted at all the praises TT gets. Its actually so wonderful, yet I admit that I have had my doubts in the past as well, as it is just so completely unheard of in our industry anymore to have a company that is great to work for. I admit, I'm jealous. Though hopefully I can turn my jealousy into a positive and actually push myself to apply for a position with TT. I have thought this over the last few weeks, and then talk myself out of it because I figure its too late - all the positions must be filled. See what spending a lifetime working for a cold huge national can do to one's self-esteem? I need to make changes in 2007, and applying at TT is on the very top of the list! I think I would burst into a river of tears if I even got a card, let alone a gift - anything. I have devoted nearly 20 years to one company, and expect nothing, absolutely nothing. Its sad, isn't it?
Oh, goodness. We WANT MTSOs and others to
This way open dialogue continues.

If we shut this place up to ONLY having MTs here ... we'll never get any information in/out!

You don't have to like anyone else's posts.

Thank goodness! Someone agrees with me!
Hooray!!!!!!  Someone agrees.  IC's do not work set schedules.  Hello?????  IC's set their own hours to work.  I have been saying this all along.  Companies can get into trouble.  They could actually be held responsible for withholding prior taxes for as many years as they have been making you work set hours.
Thank goodness someone other than me caught that!
nm
For goodness sake!
This is whining now, ridiculous.
Goodness, I hope not
Once upon a time, I got a 97 point something or other on a quality review. I was devestated and terribly hard on myself. I have never had a score like that since, thank the Lord.

I seriously do not think they would let you go because of one review under 98%. I do believe this company to be very professional and really do think they would first talk to you about maybe slowing down, giving you tips on better quality rather than just saying well you messed up once, you're outta here.

Please let us know how you make out. :)
Thank goodness, but it's not your fault..
my company has been extremely low too for much longer than the usual seasonal times that occur, keep getting the same just wait, work will pick up emails. Good luck!
Goodness is you work there why not just ask them?

Thank goodness you're NOT
a business owner. On the one hand, you say you wouldn't give employees free money for doing nothing, and then you advise to build up PTO, which is the same thing. LOL!

And FYI, most other careers do have holidays off and plenty of PTO, it's not just a wonderful fairyland daydream.
My goodness, see how others feel about this
I do the majority of work on Escription and love it. I do not know why you only make 7.00/hr some days but that is just plain insane. I can make almost 3x that much per hour using version 8- you must not be using your time wisely.
Oh my goodness $1.00 a page sm
that is terrible. I made $1.00 a page starting for Transcriptions Limited in 1983!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Goodness! You'd think it was Friday--sm
today what with every body biting each other's heads off and getting all *snarky* over things that don't really matter. Get a grip you all, have a cold one, and mellow out! geez. some of Y'all are just LOOKIN' for an argument and if you can't get one going, you'll start one! sick *o this stuff. I think most of the people in this thread need a good long ol* fashioned *time out* in the corner!
thank goodness I don't have a life...
...so I can do that. If I was active and involved in things, I'd be stuck working my schedule only -- and probably not meeting my minimum requirements. That's pretty sad.
Oh, for goodness sakes! sm
I was not criticizing you for making an omelet. The original poster was complaining about having no work. If I was sitting around with no work, I would find another job, that's what I said. I was in that situation with my former company, found another job. It does no good to complain here about no work, might as well spend the time looking for another job or making omelets if that is what you choose to do. I know we are allowed to take time to eat, but we do not get paid for that time. That's why I end up eating at my desk :)
