I just hired on with Med-Links today ... sm
So far they're very professional and courteous. Decent line rate, IC flexibility, and use Bayscribe as a platform. The owner is an actual MT and understands our work process. Best of all, no weekend work. I almost fell out of my chair when she told me that ... :-).
WebmedX got the account. I was hired by them today for

the account.   I was also told by another company that they had bid on the account themselves and were told by the account that they were not going to renew with QT.  This was SEVERAL months ago.   Some people have been called about another account that was lost in addition to the big one.

IMO, anyone being hired as a NEW Employee or

In my opinion from what I have read and heard, there are very few MTSOs who do not use VR, and even those who have some straight typing are quickly or slowly moving towards more and more VR.  The few that do have straight typing are pretty well staffed, and the MTs who have those accounts are usually the ones who have been with the company a long time and have been told they will not have to transition to VR as long as there is straight typing because they complained about having to do it.  It seems to me that the companies who would have the most straight typing would be the small ones with less than 50 MTs, who are all Independent Contractors.  However, by the time you pay your own taxes, Social Security, etc, you are making a lot less per paycheck than you thought you would, and small MTSOs can easily lose accounts to larger MTSOs or EMR, so there is always the fear that you will run out of work at any time.

In my opinion, from now on, anyone being hired NEW with any MTSO will be put on mostly VR because the company knows that is where they want ALL their MTs to end up eventually.  So, I would not put too much stock in looking for a company that has straight typing.  It probably will not last long.  Unless you do not plan to work for any one particular MTSO for more than a year or two, you  might want to look at what else is important to you. I am also currently looking for a new MT job and VR is at the bottom of my list of priorities.

I am looking more at Employee status with good benefits.  If the President's Healthcare Insurance Reform passes, EVERYONE will be forced to buy insurance whether they want to or not.  Working IC for 7 or 8 cents a line and then, on top of paying my own taxes and Social Security, being forced to either buy my own insurance or pay a 13% gross wages fine if I do not get health insurance will mean I will be working for the company for Free.  I might as well get with a company that may be able to provide insurance for me at a decent price now and not have to worry about it later.  Even if the Healthcare Insurance Reform does not go into effect until 2013, I am old enough to know that those four years will go by in a flash.

I am also looking for MTSOs who have a decent VR rate, because I know that will be my salary soon enough, along with a decent platform, and maybe some flexibility and paid time off/holidays.   I have given up on a decent straight typing cpl rate, which I will never see.  Also, I am asking about minimum lines per day or pay period, since almost everyone runs out of work at some point, and the less lines I need to get in, the less stressed I will be when the work runs out.

Just something to keep in mind as you are searching new opportunities.

Good Luck in your quest.

A fleeting thought.  I always laugh when one person posts I do not have any work at ABC Company, and someone else immediately chimes in, I have plenty – ask for more accounts.  The second poster has no idea what position the first poster is in.  Maybe the second poster is one of the lucky ones who has been with ABC Company for many years, has a particular speciality that is plentiful, and has been lucky enough to get the best accounts.  Maybe the first poster has asked for more accounts time and time again, and has been told there are none that fit with her skills or schedule.  I think most times the poster who says I do not have any work at ABC Company just wants an acknowledgement of their frustration and not an indictment that they are not trying hard enough.  Give them a break!!!!

I just got hired as an SE after being employee status for MQ (sm)

for many years..I'll be doing Radiology at $1.25 per report..

What I'm sick of is being hired as an employee...
....then after working for more than 40 hours being told, Oh NO we don't pay OT. Their further comment was that the MT can work as much as the MT wants, but just no OT will be paid. WHAT??? What would you do? Turn 'em in to IRS? Of course, since the time sheet can be doctored on their end, what chance would I have to win a case like that?
Were you hired hourly or by the line, employee or IC? just wondering if it makes a difference...
I opted for hourly and wondering if it woudl be better do it by the line. It is hard to know if you do not know the software program or what the transcription is like ESL etc.. Just wondered what your experience has been like.
I think it depends on experience, account hired for, etc. I was hired at .08 per line sm
but after 90 days went to 0.085 and then 0.09 about 90 days after that. I am now at 0.0925 and have been there a year. I have to point out that the line rate might not be the highest but I can verify my counts, have plenty of work, get paid on time and have a great manager. To me, leaving a bad national and the headaches that went with it was well worth the cut in pay I took. Funny thing is that I took a pretty sizable pay cut but make more money ?!?!
I said "about to be" hired... not yet hired, and ........
considering it just like I would consider any job.... I didn't accept the job yet and wanted to check out the info out there.
Statuatory employee versus regular employee....
Can someone tell me the difference between a statuatory employee versus a regular employee?  My company offeres IC or SE status....I am confused about whether switching over the SE would benefit me more than IC status that I have been for some time with them?  What are the benefits and disadvantages of being an SE versus IC?  Thanks for all of your help!
They hire both IC and employee. I am an employee (see message)
and I have full benefits. I am very happy that I came to work here. I came as a statutory employee from a large company. Everyone at MDI has been great to me.
Depends on if you are employee or statutory employee (sm)
Employee, 8th and 23rd of month
Stat. Employee, 15th and 30th month
Diskriter - Anyone go from their employee to hospital employee with them?
Thinking about giving up on being their employee and applying for a hospital employee position through them, they have one in PA right now that looks good.  How is it for scheduling?  Do you keep your line rate or get whatever the hospital pays? Who manages those accounts, is it the same PM and DR that are on the other ones?  I have DR and feel like she doesn't have a clue what she is doing and it is so annoying, but I just don't have the guts to let the company know she needs to step it up a notch because the transcriptionists are not happy under her.  Are QA the same people or through the hospital.  They have 1 QA that is constantly asking us questions on doctors and format, things we should be asking that QA person.  Annoying that new people move up to QA but people who've been there 2 or 3 years get treated like dirt and jumped account to account.
Only employee and statutory employee..no IC
nm
So, what's it going to be today?
Who is gonna stir up the pot today?  Come on gang, lets have a good fight.
How about the ad on TV today....
make $7000 a month PART-TIME....hmmmmm.....
Since today is all about KS (sm)
Ha!  Could you tell us if we have our check direct deposited.  How do you see it?  Do you get stub in mail or intranet, etc.?  Thanks!
Way of Today
I don't post here frequently because so many of the messages are vitrolic and full of negativity and meanness. I think the mindset of today's world is reflective of just the opposite of the life advice given by your mother (and mine, too). So many, not all I know, but so many folks these days seem live their lives based on the belief that they should
-say ugly and hurtful things every chance you get.
-be rude and insensitive each and every day in each and every way.
-it is not necessary for people to like you, just make sure they know (that you believe) they are less that you.
-nothing is private, nothing is sacrosanct. Let it all hang out.
-if you're miserable, do your best to make everybody else miserable, too.
-do all manner of dirt unto others, but become aggrieved and just downright highly pissed if (when) you reap what you have sown, and feel empowered to lash out in any and every way you can.

Lyndia, you struck a chord, and I just had to respond
I know. Got my W2 today and I'm down 3G from
deficit and I always thought the idea was to increase; at least that's how it used to be.  Never thought I'd see transcription turn into a limited income industry.
QAs being cut today
From what i was told they cut 100% of the US based eScription QA force, 75% of the US based SWAT QA force. I was making 6 cpl as a QA on escription, nice first shift M-F job. They offered me 4/8 cpl as an MT 3rd shift in escription or 5 cpl to be QA for a new account on the Dictaphone side, and told me that being they offered me a new position I would not qualify for unemployment.
is always like that, not only today..nm
nm
Wish I did. Know nothing. It is indeed bad today.
nm :(
wonder why the ad today then sm
very low paying (April 2009 was 6.5 to 7 cents.  Good grief.
Here's another one from today

got a job today... sm
Well I had an interview today and received a job offer about two hours later. Whoo Hoo! Smaller company but they supply all equipment etc. Tech support, one weekend day a month etc. You never know the whole details until you get started, but at least its something. Money isn't bad either with incentive scale to boot!
I was hired by them...sm

I would stay away.  I got the job and never started with them.  They want to charge rent for the footpedal.  When I asked about buying it, they said it costs $500.  When I received the pedal, it was no different than the $30 ones (seen on internet) that all the other services just give out and then toss when they break.  I felt like I was going to be ripped off.

Thank you. When I got hired on, I was
so excited. A good friend of mine had suggested to me to try to get on.

When I got hired and told her, she asked what I was getting for a base rate. She works out of the same "region". She didn't believe me so I showed her my paperwork. I had no idea what they were/are paying anyone else. She gets 8.75 cpl. She wasn't too happy...but with MQ, not with me. It's not my fault what the game is with their pay.

I may not always have good line counts. I may get shoved around to another account or several more and my lines will drop. I hope not. I'm hoping to stay where I am but if not, then I will have to work harder. That's just the name of the game, well to me at least.

I responded to someone else in this same thread somewhere that when I left the hospital, they were doing the same crappy thing with pay. When I hired in, it was all the same "start pay". Then later they decided to change the payscale according to years of experience, even for starting. So, all the new hires -- even with less experience than I -- were making sometimes THREE DOLLARS an hour more than I was. And they didn't have to do Op Notes because they didn't know how. I was the ONLY Transcriptionist who could work on every software package they had and do every single worktype, including pathology and EP lab, etc., that they had. Really irked me. I begged and begged and tried to negotiate an "adjustment" in my pay but they always had an excuse as to why they couldn't. I quit and started with MQ.

I know that it is impossible for any company or hospital to make ALL employees happy but it sure seems like they would want to have a little more consistency in what they offer. I worked for a clinic not that long ago that negotiated your hourly wage. I told them what I thought was a high hourly (for this region and for the simple work it was) and they hemhawed around about it but gave it to me. A month later, a young 'un who was really good but still not as fast or experienced came on board with us. She told me she had been hired on for a rate that was $4 more than I. I thought she was trying to upset everyone but then she showed us her check stub...I nearly fainted. I was getting $12 and she was getting $16.

Right now, I'm happy to be here. That tune may change! LOLOLOL I hope not but it might!

Anyway, thank you for the NICE post.
LOL! I'm not the OP. I'm trying to get hired!

Sounds great, doesn't she?

I think I'm hired...sm
I made it through what I think is the last process of being hired; interviewing with the owner. There are so many things about the company that I like, and I really want the job. For that reason, I may have been a little overzealous with the owner, but his last words were "you'll be hearing from us". I think that's probably a good sign, right?

I like the fact that they assign one doctor (with option to cross-train). You are required to type 1000 lines a day (I don't think that should be hard with the same doctor). They say you can set your own hours, but work must be done within 24 hours, and you must work the hours you set. I had a previous job that allowed cherry-picking, so I think that won't be a problem here.

Dental/health is the most affordable I've seen yet.

You accrue one day a month for time off. It's all clinic work, so no weekends or holidays unless you want to.

The best part was that the recruiter I talked to is also a Transcriptionist for them, and she's been there for quite a few years. She shared alot of information that a transcriptionist would want to know. Most times, you don't find out that kind of information until you're already into the job.

The process was very quick. I sent my test back on Saturday, interviewed with recruiter and the owner on Thursday. The best part was all this is done by e-mail and telephone!

I think they are a very organized company.
I just hired on with them. SM
They pay very well, have absolutely fantastic benefits, and very generous PTO and great insurance at a reasonable cost.   In these days, you couldn't ask for more.  Everyone I have talked to so far has been wonderful.   I am looking forward to working for them.
I was just hired there and was
was told the hourly job is only for graveyard shift,
If you were hired before Nov 1
you will get a productive incentive, if you were hired after Nov 1, nothing.  That is what my hiring coordinator told me.  No shift diff, no incentive, but they raised their line rates.  I am new, but this is what I was told when I was hired.  A word of warning, forget the any help if you have IT problems for hours or even a day.  You have to e mail them and wait for a response.
I just got hired by them.....sm

but haven't started working yet.  I'm still waiting for my paperwork, foot pedal, software, etc.  From what I read, they seem to be a great company to work for. They hire employee status only, no ICs. I believe there is an incentive program for full time (I'll be working part time, so I'm not exactly sure of what it is). They also seem to be flexible with hours worked (no strict hours or punching in, but it sounds like you have a window of time to get your work done).  I'm sure the recruiter can give you more information. The pay is pretty decent also.

Good luck!

I was just hired as an
Would love to email and keep in touch, even tho you're doing Onc.. I have done that in the past as well. Let me know.

You must have just been hired.
v
You can always get hired at OSi

I was hired with them and it took them
3 months to get back with me about getting going with them. Terrible company with no organizational skills whatsoever!!
We had already been hired
We are not waiting to hear back after testing.  We already received job offers and then...nothing.  They may be a great company to work for...I guess I'll never know because I accepted another job.
I was just hired there.....
if you go to transcriptionresource.com they have some info there on Probity. They are paying for my internet connection, giving me flexibility in scheduling, 40 hours of vacation after 90 days, ability to make up time if I have to rather than use pto, pay is a little over 8 cpl, paid holidays (have to work thanksgiving or x-mas, 4 hours, then get the other one completely off). Currently I believe they are looking for cardiology MTs and acute care. Seems like a nice group of people, I have worked with some of them, and I am excited about it. I'd leave you my email, but not allowed to post it. Any specific questions and I will check the board again.
Where were you hired? sm
Just curious.  Hope that you're making more than 2-3 cpl for editing.  The line counts are fair, voice quality is good.  It takes some time to get used to, some I've read like it, some don't.  Some like editing, some straight typing.  I happen to love it and I prefer the editing.  You'll love the platform.  Good luck to you !
She did me exactly the same - actually hired me,
I think, then left me hanging. I didn't hear another word so accepted with another company. Then she called me a few weeks later and said she had told me it would be a couple of weeks, but she had not. She was very nice the first time; not as much so when she learned I would not be working there.
also hired

I have also been hired to work for them and am grateful for the opportunity.  I think it will be a challenge, but I never expected MT to be a piece of cake. Everyone who I have come into contact with there has been nothing short of wonderful.

Why do you think you were hired?
??
I was just hired as well.
I'm crossing my fingers that it goes well.  I'm tired of job hopping.
Just got hired on....
I just got hired on by KS and I am not having to pay for anything.  I had the second phone line and am using a C-phone (which I had) for my account with them.  There was never any mention that you had to pay for anything when they interviewed me.  I actually start Wed. and am looking forward to it.  The lead Transcriptionist I am working with seems super nice.  So all I have to say so far about them is great.  I'll keep you posted.
They have over hired
I have been out of work off and on for last couple weeks -- a month ago we had mandatory OT every day. It is getting frustrating.
I was hired for
the job I work on and I know from having worked on this 1 particular place so long, the work does not run out. I was not told I would have to cross train NEVER and I expected to work on what I am used to and like. I think wrong for others to come and gobble up the work I was set up to do because they RUN out. Got IMd this morning from person over my acct and aware of problem and working on it today they say.
They have over-hired!!!!
Well, every time they get a new account, they OVERHIRE.  They look good to the client and the employees scramble for work and struggle like crazy with all the different accounts and bring their averages down and QA scores because they're working on so many different accounts.  If I could stay on my one account without 500 other people working on it, I would be happy, but no, they want each report typed as soon as it is dictated.  My 8-hour day turns into an all day thing, peeking in at odd hours hoping to get a little work.  Ridiculous, and not really good for morale.  I hate to change careers, but I do see it coming.
hired just for ER
you were hired just for ER? not all hospital work types?
When MT hired on,
Huh?
I was hired the day after

the ad was placed.  So far, I love it.  The platform is great.  The people are very nice and the dictators are good.

When I hired on....
last March the minimum line requirement I was told was 1000 lines a day. It could be account specific like the OP said, though.
