I was a QA that got paid hourly...sm
so it's more difficult to find another job for me that pays the same. :( If I go back to MTing, I take a massive pay cut.
I am paid hourly.
I have been extremely fortunate to be hourly in both my past and current QA positions, making $18 5 years ago at my prior position and considerably more at this one (not comfortable saying how much, that's my business). My position incorporates more than just QA/Editing reports and I don't have to edit VR and my company does not outsource. I am not exactly sure what my per-line rate factors out to, but I have a high production rate along with my other duties and have been working with some of the same accounts for many, many years and know them well and our MT turnover rate is low also. I have the luxury to take the extra time with those who need it and to just spot edit/fill in blanks on those that don't need the extra help.

Honestly, I had no idea QA were being paid so low until I came across this website a couple months ago. I have had the good fortune to work for two great companies and never had the desire to look elsewhere and see what other companies were offering. I do think more people need to be paid what they are worth, but as long as someone else is willing to be paid less there is just going to be a low 'going rate.' Supply and demand and all that. It is like that in most jobs. Each person has to consider their own needs and compromises, etc. What sounds ridiculously low to some might seem like a great wage when factored into the trade-offs and benefits etc. My husband is union and sometimes has to deal with 'scab' labor. The reality is someone will work for that pay if you will not. There are great companies out there who truly value their QA staff and their MTs and it's a shame to think they are a dying breed.

All QA should be paid hourly.
Paying per line for QA is skimping on quality and a big risk. QA people will spend less time on the reports in an effort to make decent money, and that's a fact. It's a very stupid and risky practice and most better companies will not do this. As for QA people actually taking that pay, that's even worse. There are plenty of respectable companies still paying hourly.
QA paid hourly
Agree with that!  I for one would never work on production.  This definitely compromises quality just to get the lines out, and I will never do that.  And... whose gonna check behind those QA people.  Nobody!  QA is supposed to check behind MTs.  Put QAs on production and you may as well not have QA , and just let the MTs send work as is, have the MT never learn, and then have them pass that incorrect knowledge down to future MTs, and then what do you have?  Well... maybe they'll figure it out one day.  I don't always agree with what is going on with the company I work for;  but... I can say that they have not gone to a line rate for QAs.  I would say thats a pretty good indication of their views on quality accounting for something.
QA SHOULD be paid hourly - sm
Otherwise what's to stop them from doing bogus *corrections* in order to get more money.
Being Paid Hourly - QA sm

Suppose you're hired for a QA position at $14.00 an hour as an independent contractor and you work an 8-hour shift on a daily basis.  Are you guaranteed to be for the 8-hour shift even if there is no work available?

What about the same thing as above, but only hired as an employee.  Would you be guaranteed to be paid for the 8-hour shift whether there was any work or not?

Newbie or not, QA should be paid hourly only. NM

One quesion - were you getting paid hourly? ; )

Paid hourly training SM

Anyone can tell me what companies pay at least minimum hourly wage during training?   I don 't mind line rate pay during this time, but I heard many of them will only let you do several reports a day during training and pay by the line, all along the work you do learning their software and platform, phone calls, conference calls, etc. is per g-r-a-t-i-s.  Anyone?

I understood her to mean she was paid hourly plus
x
At WMX you are paid the hourly equivalent of your sm
production rate. If you are making $20 an hour (averaged) on production, that's what you make when you take PTO or holiday pay.
Don't QA's get paid hourly at MQ? Why abandon jobs?
nm
Different view: If we all went to hourly pay to make sure that we are paid during downtime, it wou
what we earn on production. I make upwards of $30 an hour on production. Most hospitals are under $20 an hour. I think we would lose money if hourly and if they pay us for downtime, I am sure that the money would have to come from somewhere, so they would lower rates.

I'd love to be back inhouse, paid hourly, and
a bad dictator or a report that's interesting, but slow to do. I'm tired of never having money for food, gas, clothes, fun, or anything else. I'm tired of no holidays off, and having to work a 12-hour day to make the minimum line count. And no, I NEVER get overtime, cuz they don't pay it. I think the hospitals should not only first give work to it's HOME BASED employees, but I think they should hire more, instead of farming it out to god-knows-where all over the world.
If your hired at an hourly rate and you run out of work, then you dont get paid anything??
Just saying, you worked a total of 3 hours one day, ran out of work for two hours, then for that day you only get paid 3 hours? That would suck and it wont pay my bills.
Webmedx Editors, how are they paid (per line or hourly)? Do they reimburse for
CMT examination fee or pay part of it?  Do they give any kind of consideration for MTs or Editors with their CMT?
PTO paid out based on average hourly earnings. They typically
do not pay for downtime unless it's an unusual occurrence.
Does anyone recommend a pretty good company that is good to work for, pay always on time and plenty
of work.  I know that is asking a lot, but just curious?
I have to do plenty of demographics. Did not realize I wasn't being paid for them. Am not surpris
It does depend on your acct,as you have said. nm.
I AGREE COMPLETELY! I'd rather be paid a consistent, respectable hourly rate
nm
Awesome small company! Paid on time every 2 weeks. Plenty of work!
Owner is great. I would recommend this company to anyone who wanted to be paid what they are worth and paid on time!
Companies with hourly pay for QAs?

I am a QA looking for a new job with hourly pay... can anyone tell me which companies pay QA by the hour?

Thanks!

Companies that pay hourly QA

Hourly paying companies
Can you give me the name of the company? I would appreciate it.

Thank you
There are still plenty of jobs here, but because companies
are competing against companies in other countries (even if the work is inferior) are stuck.   Twenty something years ago I was making 6 cpl/gross line.  I had no experience, no schooling, basically self-taught and on-the-job training.  Today, 20 something years later I'm making 8 cpl/gross line with less benefits.   If we didn't have to compete with India we might have a better wage and benefits.
Extext companies with plenty of work
I need to know what Extext companies have plenty of work right now and I can go work immediately and be able to download work.  I'm tired of having no work and no money.
It takes some work but there are plenty of better companies. nm
..
confused as to why my question was deleted regarding companies who pay hourly..SM
I purposely made my question very general and was only looking for input from any MT or Editor being paid hourly. Was not asking for the pay rate, but rather interested in knowing of companies who pay hourly. Am I mistaken to think this is a resource board for general questions? Sorry if I broke any rules.
Do they pay hourly or production for QA? Is it good pay? nm
x
I love QA, but I'd only do it for a good hourly wage that
nm
Ew, I thought they were one of the good hourly ones. Changes my opinion of them.

There is a lot to be said for good communication and plenty of work.
Trust me. It could be worse and I should know. I have worked for some companies that I WISHED paid 10 cents a line and had poor communication and lack of work. You cannot go wrong it sounds with what your doing. I could only pray for that.
So quit - there are plenty of jobs for good MTs. sm
If you think truly they suck, find somewhere else.
Medware, good platform, plenty of work
I have worked for them almost 3 years now, they are a better than average company and pay on time every other Friday.  Check them out, you will be happy you did.  Kim.
Potential is good if there is plenty of work to type. sm
Things were great when I first started, and the pay was great.  The work on my particular account started to slow way down after about 5 months, and thus the pay, too. Just be prepared if that is to happen.  I do wish you all the best though.
Worked out to a pretty good hourly rate, just not the right company for me. nm

Good accounts, great people, plenty of work. sm

I'm past that "honeymoon" stage of the first few months that another poster mentioned.  I still find them to be the best for me.  Never run out of work, always there for questions, including timely responses, great people (QA and otherwise).

I'd highly suggest contacting either your supervisor or Jane (as she offered) about lack of work.  As you should see on the daily reports, there is plenty of work out there.

Good luck & I hope it works out for you.

I'm at Webmedx after 10+ years at MQ. Good company. Plenty of work. SM
Pay is direct deposit and on time. You have a 12-hour window and 35 hours is considered full-time. I cleared QA review in less than a day, and they leave me alone to do my job. Benefits are affordable. I don't need the insurance, but I understand it's pretty good. Don't get much PTO the 1st year, 3 days. If you know you will need to be off ANY time in the first 6 months or so, tell the recruiter. Line rate is fair and you can negotiate. They have a bonus/incentive plan that allows you to earn good money. Seems like no place is great these days, but they are probably as good as it gets. Feel free to E-mail me if I can help you out.
Does anyone know if Precyse Solutions is a good company that pays on time and has plenty
of work?
Don't think any do except for those in-house jobs. Some QA jobs are paid hourly. nm
s
Been there 9 months and LOVE it!!! Plenty of work, good platform, great staff.
I finally found a home.
They have created a new position that pays hourly. Anyone know what the hourly rate range is? NM
xx
A combo hourly/incentive or straight hourly rate based on
A platform where MTs have had major input in developing it.

10 annual days of PTO, at average hourly rate.

Affordable, decent health insurance.

QA done by very experienced high-level MTs, with open and respectful communication between QA and the MTs.
companies are not paid enough
themselves to give you much more. You have to work for yourself and cut out the middle man nowadays to make the good money. I work IC for a hospital and make 12 cents. I recently applied to a company for some extra part time work, and they told me they do not even get that much.
They are recruiters and get paid by the companies

they represent.   They represent the same companies that post on the job boards.  They don't get you more $$ or a better schedule.  They only represent a couple of companies and are going to refer you to one of them, whether it is a good fit for you or not.   If you decline a position you'll never hear from them again.

If you'll read the archives you'll find lots on them and all state about the same thing.

How do companies pay PTO when we are paid by the line.
Do they use an average of what you make most days and pay you that when you want your day off, or do they have a little bank of money that you can dip into when taking a vacation? Explain this to me please?
Adminstrative Assistants and VanBelkum. Good companies, good pay!
x
Paid on time, but not good.

Good Luck Getting Paid
LOL!
Also 6 paid holidays, good ...
incentive pay, great supervisors.  As a single, i pay $83 per pay period for the BC/BS, dental, vision.  I haven't had a problem with not enough work.  There are a lot of ESL dictators though.
Still need help on figuring what would be a good cpl if paid w/o spaces.
See my first message above. Thanks
