Ok. I could handle once as a mistake if explained promptly and fixed. Twice? I would run sm

as fast as I could. Twice in two months? What if you never get paid at all? You would be better going with a national while getting your own so that you have benefits and a steady paycheck. Start your own accounts slowly so that you start right.

Sten Tel pays promptly
StenTel's management does not play any games. They pay on time.
My e-mails are always answered promptly
I really enjoy working there and have no gripes. Did you bring the incorrect paperwork to their attention?
She is nice and she does pay promptly and in full, but the pay stinks.

There about 3 months ago. QA drops you pretty fast and doesn't answer ?? promptly. nm

Can't because it is ** fixed ***

Don't know what the problem is at Transtech now, but not the same as when I was hired on -- ability to achieve a good line count has become quite impossible. One of the reasons is due to decent dictators going to voice recognition, but there are other reasons.

I don't like the fact that we are BLOCKED from CTRL I from seeing our previous reports and from getting our immediate line counts. We are also not ever permitted to see a list of jobs that we have finished/sent -- not in ExText, nor on our our paystubs -- not even the number of lines on our paystubs, just ** piece work **. Very hard to verify that we are getting paid for every line!

as of about three weeks ago the had not fixed anything
ugh!!!!!
1000 lines discrepancy needs to be fixed.
nm
i had this problem; never got it fixed and quit to move on. sm
at the time i knew of another person with the problem too and neither one of us was getting it solved. it's something with your computer, not actual pedal.
Yes, but do you have an accurate way to count those lines? Has TT fixed

Information on axolotl. Is it a fixed or flexible schedule?
Are you off all major holidays or do you have to have them approved and how many weeks paid vacation do you get?
fixed by January, I was told. I love my boss. Maybe you sm
were not a great employee! Ever thought of that?
This is how it's explained,,
A 65 printable characters equals a line-----which we know means no spaces.
Never been explained
Nope, honestly no one has ever explained this to me.  I recently started questioning it though because I am now seeking new employment and I'm not sure if I would qualify for unemployment temporarily until I find something new or not.  I have not quit my current job yet but believe me, I am going to and I'm sure once people knew my reasoning, they would probably do the same thing.
well you just explained yourself! sm
you are limiting yourself to clinic work. Any MT who is limited to what he/she can or will do is going to have a hard time. I don't know what you do or how much you do, but 10 cpl if you are typing 200-300 lph is pretty darn good money. Not many jobs where you can stay home and make 20 bucks an hour.

Limit yourself to clinic work and maybe you will have that 9-5 job. But don't complain when there is no work and you can't or won't do anything but clinic work because it cuts into your lifstyle.

Obviously you haven't been in the position of really having to have a paycheck or you would be willing to work when the work is there. Can you do or have you done anything besides clinic work? Why limit yourself?

Go apply for a day job in a MR department of a hospital and do acute care (if you can find one). I am getting the picture now. you didn't give the whole situation before, clinic only....hmmmmmmmmm!
Now that you explained it..
That sounds absolutely HYSTERICAL!!!! I would have done that for my next conference call with the Q, but oops, I quit! YAY! ;)
If you read in their FAQ section, fixed headers and footers are NOT counted as well as bolding, un-

benefits from TT.
Benefits explained
I was glad I called Cymed HR to ask them about their new benefit package. I found out I could go to another option package with a different deductible and my rate did not change, in fact went down $8. The dental, vision and disability are really low cost and help a lot. I was really glad I called to get more information because it was easier to get answers then trying to figure it out myself.
You explained that perfectly! sm
Bingo! This job is very isolating and most of the jobs are found via Internet, so there is no personal (face to face) contact. This board helps network other MTs. Sorry that some people don't seem to understand.
It was also explained to me that 7 cpl was the pay rate...
As they were adding benefits into the mix, and that was directly from the VP of Transcription Services. If that has changed, I would be very interested in purusing it.
You just explained the universe
Was with OSi very briefly and quit, 1 reason because I worked so hard but saw very low line counts. I couldn't figure it out.
I'm so sorry. You just explained how a lot of people SM
feel. I feel sorry for so many of us. Those poor MT's at JLG.

I'm old, so I just have a few years left to work. If I were younger, I would really consider something different. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do and please believe you are capable of achieving anything you want. Anyone capable of being MT is capable of anything. Hmm, they may have come out poorly. :)

Anyway, go for it.
Now you explained it. I always thought
that dark shadow was night coming on or at least my husband's beard growing, now I know it is the indians descending.
They explained to me as just a little "extra" they thought they could do sm
for the people that work for them.  I am working part-time for them, so not sure how it will work, but I thought it was a nice idea.  They seem to be great people to work with.
Yes, I got the same letter from Embarq..even after I explained (sm)
to them what I needed the unlimited LD for.  I finally switched to a digital line from our local cable provider (Time-Warner) and pay $39 a month now, no matter how much long distance I use.  I also work for Keystrokes.
Here's how I handle it....sm

1.  First off, if you don't stand up for yourself, others will continue to rely on you.

2.  When someone knocks on the door to visit you have to tell them that it's your work time and they need to come after ___ o'clock.  Some people think that if you work at home you have lots of flexible hours and if you don't set the rules then they don't know.  You may also want to consider posting a note by your front door that says my work hours are 9a-5p - please do not interrupt during this time or something like that.

3.  When people call wanting you to take someone to the doctor, get horses rounded up, etc. remind them that you have a job to do and that they need to take care of their own problems.  If you were driving into a hospital or doctors office to work they wouldn't pull this stuff on you so why take it now?

4.  Use caller ID and if you end up answering the phone politely tell the other person that you're working and they need to call back after such and such a time.

5.  If you will stand up for yourself and do the above things you'll find yourself not being as stressed out and having actual free time again.  You will also gain respect from family/friends that currently call on you once they realize that you're serious about not being the bail out person anymore.

Good luck!

How would you handle this?
As I said, I do like the company, like the work, and have been with them now for 6 years (do I look dumb yet). I don't like being taken advantage of, but am not sure how to approach it. The software we have to rent is their work platform, just like all companies have. I don't want to make anyone angry, but also don't know what to say. All the MTs have to do this at the company, not just me. How would you approach this? Any suggestions?
omg..that is just too much for me to handle...
thanks much for that info!
It's the same old act, different handle
I think I can remember three different incarnations of this person...I think in one of them she claimed to be Eastern European royalty or something. She sticks a finger into the wind to determine which way the wind is blowing and then intentionally goes against it or whichever will put her in what she perceives is the best light. Then, of course, in the postings where opinion is split roughly down the middle, she's flipping faster than the grill boy at McDonald's at lunch hour.

Sadly, if she pops up and agrees with anything I wrote, I feel chastised and develop the sudden urge to go back and disavow whatever it was I had written.
the reason for the discrepancy has been explained by the owner of the company already - nm
nm
ironic, since OP specifically explained about board answers.
nm
If you can't handle it, don't apply for it.

If you can't handle the daily volume of work then don't apply for the job.  You risk getting the job, having more than you can handle and doing either a poor job just to get it all done or not meeting your deadline.  In either case, you risk damage to your reputation when the doctor is unimpressed with your work.

Is there another Transcriptionist you can share the workload with?

If the problem is more a lack of experience with transcription as opposed to too high a volume of work then my suggestion is to try to get transcription experience before venturing out on your own.

Of course you can't. You Can't Handle the Truth!
zx
How about you just don't handle it and ignore it.
sometimes, less is best!

How to handle nonpayers
Contact the attorney general of your state and the attorney general of the state where the company is located. If there is a department of business regulation in either state, copy them as well. Then inform the nonpayers that you will proceed on to small claims court. Then do it.
How do most companies handle this?
I recently started with a new company, so all of my work is going through QA right now.  So, last night I typed a note for a doctor that was 250 lines and at the VERY end, he said I'm sorry, just delete this dictation, I have changed my mind.  Well, I didn't delete it, I had been typing a while with all of those lines. QA picked it up and she deleted it and sent me a note telling me that the dictator requested it to be deleted and please make sure I pay attention to that next time and I no longer have those 250 lines!!!  So, is this how all companies work, because I am not sure I remember having that situation before, but it seems quite unfair that I would type that many lines and then be told nevermind ???

I'm not that poster. Unreal. She has explained herself half a dozen times by now.
It seems not.
Okay, here is how a recruiter who is a friend of mine explained verbal tests to me.

Verbal tests are to give the recruiter a feel of what that MT knows off the top of their head.  Not all people get nervous at verbal tests but a good recruiter has the insight to know if a wrong answer or lack of an answer is from not knowing or is from just being nervous.  A verbal test is done just to get a feel for the the off the top knowledge of an MT plus you know that MT is taking it.  This recruiter is also an MT and having gone through so many tests the long hard way decided this was the lesser of the evils.  She did tell me though if she felt that MT knew their stuff and just could not respond because of nervousness that she noted that and just by a general conversation based on experience would not flunk someone like that.  Lenghty tests prove very little except that an MT has been working for companies that all have different ways of style and that she felt that was not right to an MT; as well having to take tests that are hours long after an MT has been working long hours is also not fair to the MT.  And my friend told me that in many cases there are MTs that literally have other MTs take their testing for them and you would not know it until that person starts the job.  It depends on the recruiter and their knowledge of the industry.  Each recruiter or company has their own way and usually they find the way that works best for them.  I personally find that many recruiters just have no knowledge of the industry (inside knowledge) and it annoys me that someone like that is allowed to even have the opportunity to interview and test me.  I can remember one with a company up north and their idea of punctuation was way too much.  It should not have been an issue unless it changed the meaning of the report but had they gone by the Book of Style they would not have added those 20 or so commas throughout the 4 reports that they had me transcribe.  I passed but when you have been in this industry for over 15 years and are being judged by someone that has not and who has not been in your MT dancing shoes then something about that just does not seem right.  Anyway I doubt there really is a best way to do anything, but if I had my choice, I would prefer the way that is the shortest. Time is precious and for the rates they pay nowadays those tests are just too lengthy to go through that for a whopping 7 cents a line.  No thank you.  I'll chance my nerves over all that.

can you handle a 12-hour window?
Our company is offering a bonus right now, as they are taking on a couple of new accounts.  It depends on so much, because where I find them great to work for, others have not.

I have been here about six months, and have never had one issue about scheduling; however, I do work the days I have committed to, just that they have a 12-hour window in which to do it.  My supervisor has also never bothered me for the occasional flexibility, and one of the administrators even told me to go ahead and work however I want on the weekend, whether it is Saturday or Sunday.

You do punch a timeclock, but after I got used to it, it only has helped me as you actually make a bonus for lines/hour, which if you clock in an out say an hour at a time, you get can that pretty high.

There is a lot of ESL, but plenty of help and information to help you...

Please feel free to E if you need to...
Thanks.
I had been posting as anon. This is my new handle.

Company found way to handle TAT. SM

After 5 pm, they are dumping out whatever reports are in editors ques and sending them out to MTs, but just certain MTs who have high ratings and are not allowed to leave any blanks.  Sounds like a great idea, except if one is the MT who gets stuck with all the junk, one right after the other.

This isn't VR either.

I don't know if this can be asked or not, but how does Keystrokes handle templates? (sm)

Are they prefilled by the platform and if so are they paid to the MT as having been typed by the MT or does the system subtract for the template?

I have no problem not being paid for template characters; however, I have found (with a couple of services that I have worked for) that the platform (or client or maybe even the service) will fill in absolutely every heading that MIGHT possibly be dictated by the doctor.  We, as the MT, have then had to bounce up and down the template looking for the heading that is being dictated and in some cases, having to modify the template by extracting words to fit how the doctor is dictating that heading.  In both cases, the line counter was set up to deduct the characters from the ORIGINAL template (which we were not paid for).  If the doctor dictates a shorter heading than was prefilled by the system, we are essentially losing lines.  (I hope that wasn't too confusing.)

It's just so much easier to type as the doctor is dictating and use my expansion program rather than jumping up and down a template.   I'm wondering how Keystrokes handles their templates.  TIA

But the newbies can handle being team leads?
Give me a &%$) break!!!
Good question! How to handle the stress.
Would be a good thing, but what does a person do?
Does anyone what national company has been hired to handle...

ProHealth Care of Wisconsin hospitals. I heard that they have now changed to a national company to do all of their work for all their facilities.

My mistake. It was MDI-FL. sm
They called me back yesterday finally and found out that it was MDI-FL.  I was offered the position which I gladly took.  The funny thing is that Transcend has the account now that my previous employer had and was taken away and given to Transcend.  I am crossing my fingers I will get on that one (although not holding my breath either).  The line rate seems good.  The schedule is what I need.  So we shall see.  So far so good.
mistake
Yes. Mistake made. Windows Vista not compatible with a lot of MT software. Go to Microsoft.com and find what IS compatible, by manufacturer's name.
its a mistake. This was before
this is a mistake..if you check the dates it was before the layoff..
My mistake...
It was not Keystrokes, it was a different company in Illinois on the list that was no longer in service. Just one of those Monday moments on a Thursday!
Big Mistake :-(

Anybody else ever think they figured it out, schedule wise, and end up leaving a company for another one and then realize they made a HUGE mistake?  But it is too late because the doctor that you transcribed was already given to someone else.....

I was working for a great company!!!!  One that, for some reason, will occasionally get some bad reviews here.... which I do not understand why.. had a baby, had to leave one company (as I was working for three) and let go of the wrong one!!!!  But was too stressed out at the time, when making my decision, to realize it.

I wish I could do a system restore on my work situation and set myself back to when I was with that company working on my favorite doctor!!!!
