PCDI

I've only recently found this forum, after getting 3/4 of the way through PCDI's MT course. Now I realize that it it is probably the worst thing that I could have done. Do I just give up? Is there any chance that I will find a job? I thought I was learning the skills that I needed, but now I'm not sure. Nobody has even given me the opportunity to test. Any feedback would be appreciated.

No you do not give up. You get yourself into a decent school and get a decent education and bring real skills into the marketplace. No serious MTSO will hire PCDI. It is a matchbook school!
RE: PCDI
I as well took it to mean that determination is not enough. I might have the determination to be a cardiac surgeon but if I do not have the medical education and residency, it will not happen. The acid test for the PCDRs is not whether they can do clinic notes. I would suggest that they might want to call any of the big respected nationals: MQ, Spheris, etc. the really big players who do acute care and ask if they will allow a PCDI grad to even test, much less hire them. I have been in this business for many years and have never yet seen a PCDI grad cut it on national level acute care. Maybe there is one out there who can and if so, they would be the exception to the rule.

Thank You to everybody who replied. I would just like to add for the person who implied that I was less than intelligent for choosing a below average school- When I chose PCDI, I did not have access to all these schools on the internet. I was taking courses at my community college, but I couldn't continue because with gas at $3 gallon, the 70 mile round trip twice a week was too much for me.

I took the course through PCDI and I landed a job in medical transcription 7 years ago and counting. Don't give up. I was a little naive about how hard it is to actually get a job as a newbie but regardless there are companies that WILL HIRE NEWBIES!!!! All I can say is apply, apply, apply. I landed a job through a friend and then the company was bought and so on and so on. I eventually quit the big national and am now working for a small company where I am much happier.

I wish you the best of luck. It may be frustrating to see all the companies wanting experience but don't quit!!! Like I said, just apply, apply, apply.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
Another PCDI grad
No, don't give up. While I will say that PCDI does not really give a good insight to the real world of MT, I feel pretty good about my abilities, and have 2 jobs. If you really want to do this, you can. If you can find a different school and want to, then by all means go for it. I don't believe at all that just because you go to PCDI you will be hurting for jobs. Once you test for companies, and if you have the determination to succeed, you will be fine.
Determination/PCDI Grad
I agree. I graduated in July 2004 and have had SEVERAL opportunities to test, and even work with National company. I had no problem at all finding the 2 jobs that I have now and ALWAYS do very well on the tests. I also agree about detemination...since it was a driving force for me to excel in school and to get a job. I got EXACTLY what I set out to do! I have to say that if the original poster has enough determination, she will get her just reward!! She can do it!! Don't give up!
Canada MT
Well, there is nothing I can do about what line rate is offered here in Canada. I have chosen this career so have to take the good with the bad. And, depending on how many lines you can type in an hour depends on how much you will make per hour - With the amount of lines that I can type in an hour, it works out to pretty average - and almost triple what I used to get paid when I worked in-office, so pretty pleased.
Spheris for one. They have accounts in Canada as well.
dd
Spheris has both MTs and accounts in Canada.
dd
Canada has MT union lowest pay $23 hr

Wow 7 cents and then also the exchange rate, I forget what my MT email friend said it was.  Gad you are making zip per hour.  Glad you are happy with it.  Not me. My friend has some of her own accounts and charges $20 and hour.

Oh well, guess you are happy.  She is unhappy with %20 an hour.

Heads up, I just found out this is a BC, Canada company!!
xx
Does anyone have any info on Terra Nova in Canada?? TIA
nm
Amen. Look at Canada/Sweden/England who have UHC. sm
A patient has to wait literally months to get a simple doctor's appointment. In the news just yesterday was a lawsuit in England where a patient died of breast cancer waiting to get an appointment with an oncologist. That is why Florida sees an influx of Canadians every winter; they save all of the routine healthcare workups for once a year, go to Florida, and get their healthcare taken care of.

Universal healthcare is not free. We will pay for it with increased taxes and pay for it DEARLY.

Terra Nova is located in Canada....

Evoluz Inc. hiring transcriptionist in Canada
Evoluz Inc. is a Toronto (Canada) based transcription company and they have been hiring currently.  My friend currently works for them from home and she is quite happy. They also provide interview and business transcription.
it may be located in Canada. See web link inside. SM
again, I'm not sure if this is the correct one you are looking for. I know nothing about this company however.

It's a good thing we don't live in Canada then
as my hubby was 64 when he had his 2 heart attacks and CABG last fall. He was lucky to have survived it as it was!
I think these guys are based on Ontario, Canada. nm
nm
Unions in Canada, MTs make $23 hour plus Yep
I communicate with an MT in Canada and that is what she relayed.
Just curious -- did getting paid from Canada mess up your taxes in any way? sm

I have a friend in Toronto, and we were talking about me trying to do some work for them (they pay 18 cents per line!) but wasn't sure how complicated it would be taxwise.

Thanks.

Spheris Canada...Applied on line per instructions but problems with template...

After completing page 1 it flips to page 2 and asks you for to choose a State...obviously I'm in Canada (for which page 1 had that option).  I am hoping this did not screw up my application.

I am very experienced so I am sure they would contact me...Checked out their web site and there is only a general inq # to call.

Is anyone working with the Canada (Ontario) Division...is it all through US head office....any insight ?
