where they 35 comparable reports - or 35 short and 35 long reports? nm

Insist on sample of prior reports, lots of them. Then when you see it, sm
you will say, Oh, so that is what he is saying.  Then, put it in your expander.  Phrases work the best for me, not normals.  Phrases in the Expander for what each item these guys use.  But you need to see lots of samples of prior reports.
ChartMatrix (TransHealth) has archived/quick access to prior reports. nm

Terminated after doing a very short amount of reports
I was hired by company A, whom I found out subcontracts from company B which is a large medical transcription company in California.  I worked for the second company for several years, and all of a sudden, no work  well getting hired by Company A  I found out why.  I transcribed a total of 3-4 reports for company A yesterday and today, and they wanted things such as pulse ox' and subcutaneous, etc  -- got called on the carpet if these abbreviations were expanded or spelled out.  I have been an MT for over 25 years and to me, when it is abbrevations like this, it sends a red flag in my mind as to quality.  If you want further information, please email me privately
A few corrections? Must be short reports. You are lucky! Thanks for the smile/laugh! nm

LOADS OF WORK - always is
nm
I have loads of work.
I guess it depends on what accounts you're on and what hours you work. I love Oracle, one of the best so far that I have worked for.
LOADS of work. E me for more details.
nm
my work loads anywhere from the morning to late afternoon...
but I have until sunday until midnight to get it done, so it is not like you are working the entire weekend...depends how fast and motivated you are--LOL
holidays do tend to reduce work loads.
When the account i was given had shortage of work, i asked for and received another account. I almost never have a shortage of work now.
I'm about 300 lines short daily. I've had some
dictators that were absolutely horrendous and the my reports come back from QA with blanks too, but then I have some really good dictators.   The changes are driving me crazy.   I wish they could explain things one time in a way that the MTs could understand.  I'm sure there are more changes to come, though they have had at least part of the account for a long time so I don't understand all the changes now.
goodness 1000 lines short!!!
It kinda sounds like problems on both sides to me.
Not a good thing. Hope you get paid and the correct amount. Labor Board
The company DOES have a way to figure out how many lines you did FOR SURE. Really think they don't and would depend on the MT for the count. They have all sorts of ways to manipulate the count too.
Work for SPi now, prior CyMed...
and EVERY company has issues, you just have to figure out what issues are deal-breakers for you personally. SPi HAS started switching QAs around to all different accounts, but not sure about the MTs; however, on the few times that these accounts have run short of work for the MTs on them, they've had them actually doing QA! That's ONE position, at least, that you can guarantee you'll move up to if you're competent and want the move.
Their benefits are better and less expensive than CyMeds were, and vacation time is actually a bit better.
There are no yearly or scheduled raises with SPi.
My advice is to ask LOTS of questions BEFORE accepting either job with either company; you should also get EVERYthing in writing, AGAIN, do this BEFORE you accept either position...especially as relate to compensation, benefits, and work hours. :D Best of luck whatever you choose!

Me 2. Had a short downtime yesterday, too. But did get my lines in. Gonna take a shower and check
xx
Spheris isn't the only company getting prior MQ work....sm
our company has also picked up several million dollars worth of business that MQ used to have because of the clients either having been overbilled by MQ or fears that they would be with all of the legal problems MQ is having.  Other current MQ clients are getting bids for when their contracts expire so I expect the MQ "tumble" to continue.
lines versus reports
I have a question for you seasoned radiology transcriptionist. I have been a Transcriptionist since 1995. Most jobs I have worked at required 1150 to 1250 lines per day. I now work for a place that 120 reports per day. I have never had a problem with acheiving my quota until now.............some days we have a lot of long_________dictators and I have trouble reaching the 120 reports. Today I typed 1240 lines, but only had only typed 58 reports by the half of my shift............. On the days that I have mixed reports, some short, some medium, some long, I don't have any trouble meeting my quota. What is the usual requirement per report. I feel like I am spinning my wheels and am very discouraged as I like everything else about this job. I have talked with my supervisor, but I get the feeling she/he does not really want to be bothered.................
at 80+ reports a day, you are getting more than 1000 lines in
nm
at 80+ reports, you are doing about 2000 lines
nm
Prior contact said you work the first 2 wks WITHOUT PAY, and then you're offered a very low
s
You get paid 15 lines for reports with any # of blanks
If you do a full listen you get paid for all the lines. They discourage this unless the MT is on 100% proofing because they have a massive backlog. My pay was roughly half of my pay as an MT and I was one who got fired a few months ago because they were doing away with QA's in the US. Can't imagine why they are hiring for US QA's again.
Ichart does not give us the # of reports, lines per report,

but does give a pretty instant line count, most of the time. However, that counter is set which ever way the MTSO wants it to be set. They have complete control of that setting and what the MT is paid for.

At least, that is what I was told. Inhouse we could use Ctrl I at anytime to get our exact line count -- true line count with every stroke counting.

I love the K. Long reports, good lines.
nm
Last year you needed Word 2003 to work for them. Prior to that, you used their machine
s
I have been there for a few weeks, run out of work often. Other than that, no complaints. NM
x
I work for Diskriter, no complaints
give it a shot - - can't hurt to talk to them, everyone can say they have had a poor experience at one place or another - -no problems with management, pay, everyone is nice, communicate with other MTs on my account daily, my 2 cents
I work for Spheris, and I have no complaints. SM
I am level 8 (I think there are 10 levels), I make 9.18 cpl. I have been with them for 6 months. Go for it.
I work for them - no major complaints
Take the negatives with a grain of salt... they have been very fair with me and *never* miss a payperiod.

I work for JLG and very happy, no complaints! nm
..
Wish I could approach 400 lph, I struggle trying to achieve 150 lph, sm
have difficult account with various work types. How do you do it?
I do not agree -- they can struggle through the mess just like everyone else. sm

Someone will never learn to do the difficult dictators if they don't tackle it and send it in to QA with a gazillion blanks, if necessary.  Only way to get experience.  At TransTech, you can look up sample dictations of any dictator and obtain other reports on the same patient and sometimes get a better clue as to what the doc is saying.  Unfortunately, many people nowadays seem not to want to take the time to learn and grow.  It's easier to just slough it off on someone else.  S

Sorry for the bit of a rant.  I guess it is just one of my pet peeves.  I started as an MT over 30 years ago, learning on the job at a teaching hospital with hundreds of ESLs/residents/etc, and I would go at home at night and CRY because I thought I was going to get fired because I couldn't understand what they said, but my supervisor worked with me and gradually I was able to make my quota.  There are still horrible dictators that make me cringe when I hear their voices come on the line, but it is unthinkable to skip over it and just take the easy stuff so my coworkers can do the dirty work.  That's not teamwork.

And now, she steps down from her podium ........ (smile).

This is the area I personally struggle with
I'm constantly having to stop and reference a physician's name, facility name, drug dosages. I can't stand having to do this constantly. I check my line count each hour when I stop for a 5-minute break, and the hours I don't have to stop and reference, I'm doing about 300 lph.
I don't struggle. I make good money.
But then again I have been doing this for 21 years, work for a national at nearly top pay. Not sure why the ones who are complaining do it. Well...actually I do think I know why SOME do it. They got fooled by the false advertising of MT schools. Work at home and make $50,000 per year. Yeah right. Not right out of school, nope! That would be the RARE case. And even being able to work from home right away would be difficult IMO. I learned SO MUCH from my coworkers during those first 10 years when I worked in office and in house at the hospital. All of that on the job experience made a big difference when I went home to work. Had I started working from home with just my MT school education....I would probably hate it too.

They work with you to make sure you get the lines required or the amount of lines you want...
I have never had a problem getting more work
WORK FOR THEM FOR A SHORT WHILE

The dictators were terrible.  The owner constantly called me.  I quit after 2 week, I could not handle the constant phone calls and never got paid for what I did do...

Exactly where is the work - too many complaints of no work from many different co. (sm)

I see posts from MQ employees of not having enough work, MDI, WMX, Transcend and others.

It can't all be going to India. Maybe the people with plenty of work are working instead of posting, but I sure wish they would give us a head's up.

I had a few days where work was short sm
Other than that the whole time I have worked for them they usually have more work than not. They did recently get a new large account and hired in advance of that coming up which made work short for a few days until they transitioned MTs over to the new account.  I asked for another account those few slow days and was given one immediately, so it really was not a shortage for me. The accounts are like anywhere else, a good mix of dictators, not all bad ESL, but there are some, which is why they ask for 3 years of acute care experience.  I think they pay above average, have lots of work in general.  If you are a good MT, willing to learn new things, I think they are great to work for.  Like all companies, none of them are perfect and none the perfect fit for everyone.
I was out of work for a short while earlier sm
I baked a cake. LOL
Not sure exactly. We all have many backups now and short of work so we wont do you much good up
there. Are a lot of MTs leaving because of this lack of work. How do you do with those quality checks being shifted around on accounts all the time. Dont you have that QA plan up there. Well, I will have to find who to complain to if this happens because I do complain about things like that.
I've not been short on work at all. Plenty so far (knock on wood) lol. nm
xx
You sold yourself short then. There ARE good compoanies out there with consistent work. sm
I work for one that is praised on this board and attacked on this board, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

The money and consistency are there for those who work hard.

My apologies for lumping you in with others.
Wow-40%! No wonder we're short on work. Let's bring those billions back to the U.S.!

I used to work for a Tailor Made Transcription that was called TMT for short - does that sound right
x
I have heard they will have three main offices. Is there a reason Amherst is so short of work. What
is it they are trying to accomplish. They must be losing MTs if there is no work. No the new ASR rate is not out yet. If it goes low you will see an exodus off ASR I guess so that will mean more MTs on the regular work. It will be a big shock for some of them to see what that is like now.
There is a website that has loads of
information on it. It is owned by Harrie and she is great. Cheryl Flanders and others also post their hints or answers to word, word perfect, or other program questions there.
dictation loads
It would be interesting to see from a larger MTSO who has some long-time clients how the dictation load is compared to a few years ago. It could be the economy, but only the MTSOs know for sure if there is less dictation. Otherwise, I'd say it's a combination of overstaffing, individual MTs taking more lines per person because of VR, India, EMR, etc., etc. Probably lots of factors.

I'm not putting off college for a career change any longer. My application for spring semester is already in.
Do you mean the reports come up with OR or all work or what. Need to know what you mean.
:
Was there a short time last year. You work as an employee, not IC. Different software/diff. accts.
s
I personally can't sit for 4 hours at a time. I work 2 hous, sign off and take a short break.

It might just be fixing something to drink or starting a load of laundry.  If you did something like that then you wouldn't have to worry about a disconnect and possibly losing a report.

Loads of ESLs on all accounts.
Some good things, some bad, just depends on what you are looking for. Communication is the worst for any company I have ever worked for.
Disregard the above poster because there are loads

of MTs who have come on this board and talked about how they have have had a difficult time getting even less lines than you posted on various platforms.  I worked on Meditech for a short period of time and it would take me 10 hours to transcribe 1000 lines and most days I did not make that.  I finally got smart and changed jobs, it was either that or the homeless shelter.

Good luck with your interview!!  I wish you the best.

It's how many reports you sent to QA for each acct. you work on. NM
