Question about changing from hospital employee

Posted By: to transcription company on 2007-09-04
In Reply to:

I am wondering about how training pay works with different companies as they do not say on their web sites how much it is or for how long.  I checked with one company and they have no training pay whatsoever, strictly production from the first minute.  Thanks for any advice.  I am going from a salary but don't want to follow the account to the company.  Is it for one week or two or more, and is it usually minimum wage or higher?  TIA

Diskriter - Anyone go from their employee to hospital employee with them?
Thinking about giving up on being their employee and applying for a hospital employee position through them, they have one in PA right now that looks good.  How is it for scheduling?  Do you keep your line rate or get whatever the hospital pays? Who manages those accounts, is it the same PM and DR that are on the other ones?  I have DR and feel like she doesn't have a clue what she is doing and it is so annoying, but I just don't have the guts to let the company know she needs to step it up a notch because the transcriptionists are not happy under her.  Are QA the same people or through the hospital.  They have 1 QA that is constantly asking us questions on doctors and format, things we should be asking that QA person.  Annoying that new people move up to QA but people who've been there 2 or 3 years get treated like dirt and jumped account to account.
Hospital employee
even if you are hospital employee status, the rug can still get pulled from under you.  There have been a few hospitals that have pulled out from Diskriter leaving the hospital employees without a job so beware.  Now, Diskriter may offer to pick you up but you're better off leaving and getting another job.  One MT I know was a hospital employee.  She was the queen of OPs.  This girl was amazing, consistently pumping out 2400 lines a day with 99-100% QA.  Then, all of a sudden, the OPs started drying up on her.  Where did they all go?  Outsourcing was what she was told, meaning either to Diskriter here in the US or there in India.  Her income dropped dramatically until she eventually quit.  I would think twice about any offer even if it is hospital-based because Diskriter still controls the work flow and hospitals don't always renew contracts.
8.5-9 $/hr.? for employee of hospital??? cause if you do...
I've been blessed!
I am a hospital employee

Yes, the benefits are very good as a hospital employee, although they will vary with the different hospitals.   As far as what states they can hire from, it depends on which hospital.  There are different hospitals in different states, so the criteria is different for each.

My experience has been very good.  Pay is average (8 cpl), but nice incentive, and am making decent $$. They pay for spaces, headers, footers.  They pay downtime, which is a plus. Management seems a little disorganized and I have has three supervisors in last year, but it really didn't affect me in a negative way.

Employee for hospital....sm
I am employed by a community hospital and we have consistently been running out of work for a year. We are able to supplement it by going to work inhouse in Medical Records....but I have to pay day care to do that. I don't know what's going on...and it's not outsourcing...we actually nixed our contract with MQ 8 months ago and are STILL running out of work. I'm right there with you in the frustration department and have been looking myself. Just my 2 cents.
regarding hospital employee work - sm
again, as posted previously, it really depends on what state you live in. What state do you live in??? There are quite a few hospitals that although they do not advertise, they do hire transcriptionists from around the state.

As for Diskriter, and any company for that matter, please do not believe everything you read on this board. It reads like the National Enquirer for Transcription. For every good thing a poster might say about a company, there will be five people (or who knows, maybe it's the same poster over and over again), saying bad things.

Just because one company is not a good fit for a few transcriptionists, does not mean that every Transcriptionist should run. Sometimes these are really bad transcriptionists that were let go, or maybe they are great transcriptionists that were dealt a lousy deal by the transcription service.
Do their hospital employee MTs use the same platform?
x
Sounds like were a DR employee not hospital (sm)
Your post sounds more like employee of Diskriter than hospital.  If you work for the hospital, you don't get the bottom of the flow, you are their MT, not an overflow MT.  If you work for DR on the other hand, you get the overflow and the cherry picking (not by the MTs per say but management deciding how they want your workpool set up or what jobs they want certain MTs to get).  They messed with my workpool so terribly it doesn't even make sense how stuff comes through now.  I'll get recent stuff before old stuff and then the old stuff is late to the hospital (poor management).  l  know that the managers now have never even worked as MTs, sickening.  So what if they have a degree, they have no experience doing the job or with the accounts, the MTs and QA know more how to run things.
Diskriter hospital employee
Is there anyone working on the hospital accounts through DR? I would like more information from those that are currently working or have previously worked on the hospital side. Good, bad, and ugly. Thanks!

Diskriter hospital employee
I wanted to post this again as nobody responded to my previous post. Does anyone work as a hospital employee through Diskriter? If you are currently working for Diskriter at all, could you give me some insight on the company and benefits from your perspective? Thanks!
That's because it's actual hospital employee and

Diskriter-Hospital Employee Status

I've recently accepted a hospital employee status position with Diskriter.  Is there anyone else out there that works one of these positions that would be willing to network with me?

anyone work as hospital employee for/through Diskriter?
Was wondering how that works out, if that setup is better than working for a service. Better benefits, workload?
I'm a new hospital employee through Diskriter and you are correct. Ins kicks in 1st month after h
You cant beat the benefits and that is why I chose hospital. You get PTO, holiday pay, downtime pay, and sick time. The insurance is one of the best out there.
My last hospital did offer home-based employee positions. sm
They paid the employee positions by the hour with incentive and IC positions by the dictated minute.

It still was not as lucrative for me as my national position.

What works for one, however, may not work for others.

It is all about personal needs and opinions! Bully for you!!! :)

I have a friend working in a hospital and she is looking for a company from home as an employee.
Would anyone care to recommend a good company?
There's no comparison in being a hospital employee with benefits working rotating weekend and IC
Initially what made being an IC worth sacrificing benefits was having a flexible schedule. I have read the laws and have done research. An independent contractor is not obligated to a set schedule and this definitely includes holidays and weekends. So what if this is a 24/7 business? How many hospital workers do you know that work every weekend with no benefits?? Nada! I knew student nurses who chose 24 hours every weekend so they could go to school thru the week, but they were compensated quite well at 40 hours with full benefits.

A company may hire a lot of misinformed ICs for Sun-Th and Tues - Sat schedules, but by law they are pushing the envelope. ICs need to remind these companies what the legal definition of an IC is. I'm sure they remember that we don't receive benefits. They want it both ways. If I'm going to be an IC with the only benefit being flexibility, there's no way I'm giving that up!

A national I worked for, which I won't name (squid)tried that on us after taking over our company. They even used scare tactics. We still didn't get on every weekend. There was nothing they could do and they knew it.
Diskriter off off offshores - and on some hospital accounts - they have not informed the hospital

Jewish is the main hospital, St. Mary's is another hospital under their management. (nm)

that will be changing
sup's have already said you have to work 40 hrs from sun to sat on the new plan. Glad you are a happy MT at MQ, hope it continues, lucky you
They are out there, but changing to VR...:(
x
That's because they probably keep changing your divisor
to count the lines to match whatever they want to pay you. They are so bad. Taking money from transcriptionists who do all the real work and have the experience and intelligence that THEY USE to make THEIR MONEY!
Changing careers
I was a Transcriptionist for 11 years and going through the same thing - less pay and terrible accounts.  Changed companies a lot, but it was always the same - little or no work.  Finally I had a friend of mine who is a doctor (has her own family practice) tell me that she hired a company out of India to do her work for 7cpl with 24 hour TAT and they would incorporate it into her computer system.  This was the last straw for me and I got out.  I found a job transcribing and captioning videos for the deaf and hearing impaired students at a local university.  I also take classes with a couple of these students and take notes.  There are other things out there - I am happier than I have been in years!
I am looking into changing fields..from MT
to coding but don't know if at 53 I'm getting too old to switch OR if coding will go the way of transcription as far as being computerized. I know MQ has new transcription/coding computerized equipment but I'm hoping and praying billing and/or coding will continue to be done by humans for a while. I just don't know that much about billing/coding now to know what the field looks like but I've contacted a couple local schools about classes.
Changing world

It appears that management and supervisor positions are going down the drain.  Reason being, a lot of them are working for two companies at one time, thus  drawing two paychecks.  The company officials who know nothing about transcription management have no idea that it doesn't take a full day to manage transcriptionists.  Same being with QA and Editor positions, they are going to line rate now for the same reason.  Seems like a few unworthy people have just ruined it for everyone.  The trend now is going toward no titles of authority and just everyone having responsibilties that will cover a full day including typing in that job description.  I wouldn't say thats really a bad change, I would say the companies are wising up, it is a business after all.

In defence of some though, there are though companies that assign 50 hospital accounts to one supervisor which is just terrible because they are on 24-7.  Bottom line, it is no longer the prestigious job it used to be.

Ever changing workload
If those people had any clue what they were doing, things would not be the way they are.

Have you ever worked for a company who suddenly sends out an email that says -we got a new acount- -it's already been added to your pool- -here are the account specifics- ...and has done this repeatedly with no warning whatsoever.

No human can keep all of those account specifics straight. If they had a brain, they would divide up those accounts and lessen the number of accounts in the MTs pools. In other words, if there are 100 MTs, put 3 accounts in 50 MTs' pools and the other 3 accounts in the other 50 MTs' pool. Does this not make sense?

They are so thoughtless and inconsiderate...will assign jobs to you without telling you or asking you if it is ok to do so, and then will send an email ordering you to stay on the system until you have completed all jobs assigned to you.
Unbelievable! I'm outta there as fast as I find something else. Hate it...hate it...hate it.

OMG! Changing Ribbons! LOL :)
This is way down the page, so you may not see this, but YES! I had forgotten all about changing the ribbon! Too funny! Man that takes me back! :)
changing MT jobs
hi out there -  I have been working with TotalEMed, now Spheris, for quite awhile -- pay on speech recog is 0.05 line and transcribing 0.06 line and am thinking about another company - does any one know of a company they have had a pretty good experience... I was thinking about the Northeast Transcription, Medquist and a few others.  thanks so much for any help with this.  I have about 7 years exp.
They are changing platforms and we will all be

company changing pay??
So, we have just been notified that our company will be changing our pay basically to 2 cpl on any templates and macro information and our full line rate on what we actually type out!!  What??  Is this normal?  It just seems like crap, especially before the holidays to just in a sense lower the money we are making.  I mean, this would make quite a difference in the amount of money you were originally making wouldnt you all think?
Why is TTD changing names.......sm

On job seeker's board, TTD has another add but now they posted the company name as TMinc????

Guess they are not getting resumes or responses to their ads.  hmmm

I have no issues with HRP, changing
choices very easy.   I just may be used to it as I have to do it with my husband's company every year through their own system.
changing accounts

I will be changing my primary account due to lack of work on my current account. So, I will see how that goes. If it is not any better I will also have to get out.

Anyways, good luck at your new position.

I'm just telling you, it's going to be changing.
x
LOL. I'm thinking of changing jobs and just

visited this board to check out companies.  I don't know anything about OSI.

But I can tell from some of the posters above that they don't seem like a very nice bunch of people.  I sure wouldn't want to work with them.  The word "evil" wasn't the first word to pop in my mind.  The word "hateful" was the first word.  If I, as a total stranger to all this, can see hatred, then you as someone with experience, surely must be accurate when using the word "evil."  (Sends chills up my spine.)

Definitely scratching OSi off my list!

I'm very grateful for these board.  They contribute more than most people realize.

I want to do a comparison now that everything seems to be changing at MQ and the other nationals. sm

what is the starting line count rate for acute care at some of the big nationals? or the range?  How about for radiology or pathology?  Do most have incentive programs and what do they consist of?  If we could put it all together, we would eliminate a lot of posts and maybe have a reference for those of us looking so that we do not waste time, energy and the possibility of being lied to.

Here is what I know:

ETranz - 0.10 per line but my checks keep bouncing when I finally get paid very late.  No incentive.  No direct deposit.

Transolutions - 0.08 per line.  They supply the equipment and computer (or did 2 years ago).  Their system is a dinosaur.  I always got paid on time.

I mean nothing by it but everyone knows this is a constantly changing industry! nm
.
Do they keep changing your accts & platforms or do you have just 1 or 2
s
They offshore. They are frequently changing

how they pay.  I was originally offered a cpl rate for MT, then offered another rate to QA the offshore work.  Someone in the week or so is saying they are offering  to pay like 5 cents per thousand words.   I thought the sound quality of the files was poor and the few dictators I listened to not so great.   They used to be named something else, but I can't remember what - Transcription Solutions or TSI (I think).  They are out of Texas.

If you read through old posts you'll find more info, nothing particularly good.

Transcend is changing all accounts
your line count, so if you are hired on at 8 CPL, you will get 4 CPL.  They also seem to overhire and run out of work. No shift differential or incentive pay, they were phased out. If you want to do VR, this is the place for you, but remember your pay is reduced by 50%.  Also, lots of technical problems, their system seems to go down on an almost daily basis.  If you have a technical problem, you have to email them and wait for up to 6 hours before you get a response.  They take hours to get back to you and sometimes not until the next day for technical problems.  Poor reception and lots of static on the lines also.  Lots of ESL.  They do supply the computer is one good thing.
Recruiters changing jobs too. (sm)
One from MQ went to Precyse.  Now one from JLG I see is at All Type.  These are just 2 names I have noticed.  Guess I have been spending too much time checking out other jobs.
You are oh so wrong. They're changing the name and

they're not 'exclusive.'

if nm (no message) are your initials, might want to consider changing. NM
especially when you have so much to say inside these message pockets
Need advice on changing jobs too!
I've been working for this company since November and have not gotten up to speed yet to meet 1200 lpd.  Normally, when I start a new job it only takes a week if that to be meeting production.  The software ExText, I was already familiar with.  However, I was placed on an Hem/Onc Childrens Hospital account, the terminology of which I am not experienced.  The benefits for this company are good, i.e. health, PTO, and such, but it pays only 8.5 cpl.  In discussing my dilema with them, they have offered to place me on a regular acute care hospital account, M-F day shift.  However, I have been offered an IC position for 10 cpl with another company.  What would you guys do.  I do need the health ins from the employee position.
Amphion changing over to VR is unsettling, anybody else concerned about this...nm

Can we change the font size without changing

the appearance of the document font/size when it goes to the client. This is a Word-based program, and I know QA has asked me not to send with View size changed, so it must stay at 150% (or whatever size) when you change it in the document.  Thanks for your help.

Work night shift and eyes are tired by the end of the day.
